Something Like Falling

Summary:

This year at Hogwarts is shaping up to be no less eventful than your last. Only, this year, you’re facing a mystery surrounding your own past — and a person who seems to be appearing everywhere in it. In an attempt to get away from your own questions, you begin looking into the history of Ancient Magic in the hopes of curing Anne, only to find that there, things are not as they seem either.

Meanwhile, your feelings for Sebastian are becoming more difficult to ignore, and as the two of you work to uncover the truth, a series of loose threads and coincidences unravels into something far more sinister: something planned. Something orchestrated. Something that has hurt countless people before you.

If you aren’t careful, you’ll be next.

And if you fail to play along, it will take everything — your friends, your future, and the boy you love — with it.

Chapter Text

Part I: Whispers

Summary

After a momentous fifth year, you’re ready for a more relaxed sixth year, beginning in a summer in Feldcroft with Sebastian. When questions are raised about your past, it becomes apparent there’s more to the story than you’d thought — but that’s not the only mystery you’re facing.

Warnings

Although the work is rated M for eventual heavier themes of violence, Part I covers MC and Sebastian’s sixth year at Hogwarts, or what was originally In The Shadow Of, and it covers themes of grief, trauma, and guilt with a slow-burn romance built in. There are also depictions of underage drinking, cursing, and characters making dirty jokes. If there’s anything I’ve forgotten to warn about in Part I, please let me know so I can add it here!

Notes

Something Like Falling is a revised and edited version of Constellations of Freckles, and it’s a story I’ve been telling since April of 2024. All of that said, because I feel like my writing has come so far since then, this is the revised version, which includes major changes to the plot. I’m leaving the original series up if anyone wants to read it — just know that Something Like Falling picks up right after the battle with Ranrok. To be clear, you don’t need to have read the original series to enjoy this.
