Feel free to skip if you would like this is simply a preamble explaining the fanfiction and the reasons I'm writing it/the changes I'm making to the source material
the original is here but serious trigger warning
I would like to preface this with some of the following:
1. the original Audio drama is very gross, it features themes/Depictions of sexual assault, which I believe are grossly mishandled. Along with that there are many ableist and homophobic slurs littered throughout the work. I will not be keeping any of the sexual assault obviously, on the other hand there will be mentions of homophobia, ableist, Transphobia, brief mentions of racism, mentions of past assault (nothing will be gone into detail but it will be mentioned), sexism and Like a fuck ton of medical abuse.
Whenever a slur pops up in the work the first letter will be visible and the rest will be *****. I am both queer and neurodivergent myself but don't feel comfortable putting those words in my work for fear of triggering someone in my audience.
This thing was recorded 10 years ago. If I had to guess most of the people who made it have grown up and moved past it, I have nothing against the original creators both voice actors and authors.
Adendum: I found out that MBK was friends with snuffbomb (creator of laughing Jack and pedophile). I already did not have a lot of respect for the man because of the way he tackled very serious subject but I feel like I'm losing whatever respect I did have. That combined with some of the writings he created makes me not like this man. My original point still stands don't harass the creators. MBK and the rest of the crew (minus The obvious) have moved on from this.
Though I think they're contact and the writing is disgusting, I don't think they should be crucified for something that happened 10 years ago but I will definitely say I completely disavowed MBK and any like shitty things he might have done. This rewrite is because I liked Toby and Jeff's dynamic and thought I could do this whole story better. And that is what it is continuing to be about.
2. Due to the different mediums there will be a lot more description than the original audio drama, I will be changing things significantly and adding extra characters and taking sum away and like changing some up. Like the main villain the Wolf is no longer a rapist, Just your garden variety mad scientist/demon worshiper. Along with that the nazi Doctor will not be showing up Because fuck nazis.
Addendum: I found out about blood in the window, I have not listened to blood in the window and neither should you because it is awful apparently and there is more sexual assault and let me just say that my versions of the Keatons don't do any of that. David is much more Liu than he is David I just kept the name because well I liked it and I like the distinguishing features between Kenton and woods.
Addendum Addendum: I would like to say now please forget anything that happens in the cannon series and go into this one as if it's its own thing. I do think if you listen to the original needles and smiles if you can stomach it and read my rewrite it will be an interesting experience but I highly suggest you don't. Jeffrey Keaton is a very different character than the one in my rewrite.
3. Yes I am going to be making this a Jeff x Toby fic because the only reason I'm writing this is because I enjoyed their dynamic in the original and wished it wasn't attached to such a gross story.
4. I know and have listened to most of the continuations of this story made after the original publishing, though I might include some details mostly this is just focusing on needles and smiles itself
5. This is a creepypasta fanfiction so most of the characters we will be rooting for are serial killers and all around miserably horrible people. I've been impacted by such things in my own life, So please do not take this as glorification of any of the characters in this story's actions.
A lot of these characters will have ableist/homophobic / sexist views of themselves and others please do not take this as me endorsing any of these beliefs. I'm simply writing characters and trying to adapt the original tone of the story without the over-edginess.
6. Everybody's last names are going to be changed though they will be the iconic last names in the tag for search ability reasons. Why? to keep up the trend set by Jeff Keaton, and separate these versions from their canon counterparts.
7. This is meant for fun. I am a 17-year-old girl from Canada so if any of the mental illnesses/experiences I'm portraying are wrong or harmful please alert me. So I have pretty severe dyslexia along with the fact there's no beta reader there's probably going to be a bunch of mistakes sorry about that in advance
8. Don't worry I'm not abandoning my other fic I just got really interested in this audio drama because I thought “I can fix him” and that's what I'm doing I'm fixing him!
Addendum: I'm abandon the other one for now because this is subsumed my life in ways I never suspected...Curse you to hell and back Jeff the Killer yaoi.
9: Addendum When this Fic is complete I will go through and do a super edit fixing any writing spelling or grammar mistakes to give you the best experience possible. I'm currently doing heavier editing for the later chapters than I did for these first couple so I'm sorry if there's a discrepancy in quality. This will be updated upon the completion of the work.
Adendum: Do not worry this Fic is not on hiatus but I have school and like 5 courses at the same time along with choir and a partner. So yaoi is not my main priority.. I will try to get a chapter out every month if I can but if the schedule slows down I'm sorry for that friends :)
