Howdy! I wanted to preface this work to explain a little bit of my omegaverse rules. Some of these go with traditional omgeaverse, but I have a few rules that are just a little different. First, the anatomy of an omega male is basically an elongated clit with traditional vaginal anatomy. Secondary gender is determined at birth along with the other tests infants have to receive in their bloodwork, so parents know early what their offspring will be.
It never made sense to me when omegas would have a heat but no period (since they’re a human/ animal combo), so in this universe, they do! They will have a traditional period cycle at the normal age of puberty (12/13), but heat/ rut cycles don’t start until adulthood (18+), mostly starting on their 18th birthday. After their first heat, an omega will have a period every three months, while the fourth month will be their heat. This means omega males/ females go through at least 3 heats a year, lasting on average two full days.
Omegas are most fertile during a heat cycle, but once their bodies have reached maturity (adulthood 18 +), they can still get pregnant at any time. It's just their most fertile window is during a heat, which also allows for multiple pups to be conceived at once (more likely to have twins and triplets). During a preheat month, they usually want to be near an alpha or whatever partner they decide on for their heat. It’s not set in stone that an omega must be with an alpha during their heats; it just helps cause their pheromones are the most compatible during that time, but any omega can have another omega or beta as their heat partner. ALSO! An omega's heat partner doesn't need to have a knot/ need a knot to complete their heat. While certainly their bodies can accommodate such a structure, and it feels really good, it’s not an absolute need during their cycle or a need to get pregnant.
Ruts are a little easier to understand. They happen every 4 months after maturity (18+), like a heat, and usually change to fit their omegas' schedule. If it’s alpha x alpha, then they usually align with whoever is the most dominant alpha.
Also, since we’re on the topic of heats and pregnancy, any class (omega x beta x alpha) can get an omega pregnant, but the hardest to conceive together would be omega x omega males/females, since their bodies have reduced internal testes. Alpha females have the unique ability to get others pregnant; their anatomy is similar to that of an omega male, except that, because of alpha pheremones their “penis” structure would be longer, and their internal testes would be more developed. They could conceive a child, still having their uterus, but they can also get others pregnant, including beta females. They can’t get themselves pregnant, though, if anyone is thinking about that.
Betas have traditional male/ female anatomy, with pleasant reduced scents compared to their alpha and omega packmates, but often in the pack, they have heightened senses and know when omega males, females, or alpha females are pregnant. They’re also there to keep the packs balanced, usually one of the quieter structural members of their pack.
OH! Pack/ mating bite marks and everything of bite mark sorts: So during a heat/ rut, once two or more people have decided to become a pack or mates, usually they can transfer a bit of their blood through a bite on the neck, shoulder, wrist, or near the heart to claim this person as one of their pack. Once done, they’ll carry a bit of their pack mates' scent notes on them ( like a hint of vanilla, or maybe the sharp musk you get from a leathery scented alpha). This is a permanent decision, and a bond is formed through the people who commit to it. The bites don’t always have to be romantic, though; if this is something between friends, then they’re just claiming that they are friends for life. If a bond needs to be broken or dissolved, a surgery has to take place, basically to skin graft that area with their own body tissue, so it doesn’t repeatedly pump out the other person’s hormones into their blood. Also, this can be dissolved by death; although that is more emotional since their person or persons were taken from them abruptly.
Bite/mating marks have to take place during a heat/ rut cycle for omega X alpha, but if it’s omega/alpha X beta, then it’s during the omega/ alpha’s cycle. It has to be completed over the two days that a heat/ rut lasts, licking the wounds to cement their pheromones into their partners. Also, alpha and omegas' heat/ ruts have to line up and be at the same time, which usually automatically happens if they’ve been together for at least two cycles.
