Five Times Jungkook Gave Hoseok a Courting Gift Without Realising, and One Time He Truly Meant It

Work Text:

There are many things Jungkook doesn’t understand about being an alpha.

He knows the theory, sure, knows the scent markers, the dominance hierarchy, the need to provide and protect, but none of it prepared him for the way everything became louder the moment he presented. The world is sharper now, more vivid. Jungkook has always been scent-sensitive, even before he presented, he was the baby of the pack, his nose always buried in someone’s hoodie or clinging to the edge of Jimin’s nest when nightmares left him too shaky to sleep alone. But when his presentation came late, at nineteen, it was nothing like the quiet shift he’d imagined, nothing like the stories in books or the slow dawning some others described, it was instantaneous and loud and frightening, and he remembers waking up that morning with his heart in his throat and his sheets twisted around his legs and the sensation of something cracking open inside his chest, like a door slammed wide, and the sudden, unbearable rush of scent slamming into his sinuses—spice and salt and sweet, ozone and sweat and pheromone-laced chaos that he couldn’t untangle, his own instincts flaring into life like a wildfire and leaving him trembling, disoriented, scent glands aching and pulsing, skin hypersensitive and breath shallow, and he stumbled out of his room in a panic, blinking against the hallway lights, flinching from the muffled voices in the kitchen that now rang like sirens in his skull.

He barely made it to the living room before collapsing to his knees, arms wrapped around himself, shaking, eyes wide, pulse thrumming in his ears so loud it drowned out everything else, until he appeared.

Until Hoseok found him. And then the others arrive, and there’s a rush of footsteps, soft exclamations, and panic in the air. Jungkook remembers that the next few hours are a blur, but Hoseok doesn’t leave, not for a single second. He stays tucked against Jungkook’s side like a tether, breathing steady, scent slow and measured, neither overwhelming nor withdrawn, just there, pulsing golden through the space between them, and Jungkook finds himself leaning into it again and again, nose brushing the crook of Hoseok’s neck without thinking, drinking in that scent like it’s the only thing keeping him afloat, and Hoseok lets him. Smiles at him. Calls him sweetheart in that tender, unthinking way that never fails to make Jungkook’s heart stumble.

And Jungkook doesn’t understand it yet—not what it means, not what it’s becoming.

But his alpha does.

His alpha knows.

The first gift, it’s food.

He doesn’t plan it that way. Doesn’t even realize, really, that he’s doing anything special, just knows that his hands won’t stay still and his mouth is dry and there’s something crawling under his skin like restless electricity, something old and wordless and needy, and it only gets worse every time he walks past the sunroom and sees Hoseok there, curled on the couch like a dream half-tucked into reality, hoodie riding up to expose a sliver of golden waist and long legs folded into the cushions, one foot bouncing to the rhythm in his headphones and the other tucked beneath him, hair a tousled halo from where he’s been absentmindedly running his fingers through it while reading, and Jungkook doesn’t mean to look every time he passes, but he does.

Every damn time.

It’s not even subtle.

He’ll walk into the kitchen, pour himself water, stare into the middle distance like he’s forgotten why he came, and then wander back toward the hallway, slow enough to glance, just a glance, through the open doors where Hoseok is lounging, backlit by late-afternoon sunlight like something divine, and then he’ll circle back again, restless and irritable and too hot in his skin, feeling like if he doesn’t do something, he might climb out of his own body from the discomfort of it.

And Namjoon notices, of course.

He’s sitting at the kitchen island with his laptop open, glasses perched low on his nose, nursing a lukewarm cup of tea that he’s already reheated twice and barely touched. His expression is serene, but there’s a curve to his mouth that says he sees everything, and when Jungkook makes his fifth round trip between the fridge and the hall, pretending to be thirsty again, Namjoon finally speaks.

“You keep this up,” he murmurs, not even glancing up from his screen, “and you’re gonna leave a trench in the floor.”

Jungkook freezes like he’s been caught with his hand in the cookie jar, ears already turning red. “I’m just—stretching,” he mutters defensively.

Namjoon hums, unbothered. “Of course you are.”

It’s late autumn, the kind of crisp day that bites at the edges of windows but leaves the house warm and fragrant inside. Jin’s got something slow-roasting in the oven, seasoned chicken thighs and whole cloves of garlic, while Yoongi works on sweet potatoes at the counter, slicing with practiced efficiency, and Jimin floats between them with a glass of apple cider and commentary no one asked for but everyone enjoys. The kitchen is filled with warmth and laughter and the easy rhythm of family, and yet Jungkook can’t stop thinking about the way Hoseok hasn’t moved from his spot in hours, hasn’t eaten anything since breakfast, not even the snacks Taehyung had laid out earlier, and something inside Jungkook twitches at the thought of it, this visceral discomfort like something is wrong and he needs to fix it.

Because alphas protect, yes.

But they also provide.

And Jungkook doesn’t know where the thought comes from, just that the second he feels it, his body responds like he’s answering a command. He abandons his perch by the fridge and strides over to the pantry without a word, pulling out flour and baking powder and the yeast packet Jin keeps hidden at the back for special occasions. His hands are already moving before his brain catches up.

Jin eyes him warily from across the kitchen. “Kook? What are you—?”

“Steamed buns,” Jungkook says, setting the ingredients down with a thump. “Hobi-hyung likes them.”

There’s a beat of silence.

And then, from Yoongi, low and amused: “That’s new.”

But no one stops him. Because they know.

Oh, they know exactly what this is.

Even if Jungkook doesn’t.

He works in focused silence, hands moving with instinctive ease through the motions—kneading the dough with firm palms, shaping each little ball carefully, seasoning the filling with extra scallion and a touch of ginger because Hoseok likes things that are warm and bright but never too spicy. He moves with the kind of precision that only comes from wanting to do something well, and though he tells himself it’s just about helping with dinner, just about making something good for the pack, his fingers tremble a little when he pinches the edges shut, and his heart races in a wild, unexplainable rhythm.

By the time the food is done, chicken golden and crispy, sweet potatoes caramelized at the edges, and Jungkook’s buns fluffed and steaming and just the right amount of chewy, everyone gathers around the table, the pack naturally drifting into their usual rhythm of seats and banter, but Jungkook doesn’t sit.

Instead, he loads up a plate.

Not a full one, just enough for someone who forgot lunch, something warm and appealing and easy to eat with one hand. Two buns, one thigh, a small pile of sweet potato, with the prettiest cut of chicken carefully chosen and the crispiest sweet potato cube nudged to the top. He arranges it without thinking, and when he steps away from the table, he hears someone whistle low under their breath behind him.

Jimin’s voice is teasing, sing-song: “Oooooh, someone’s on a mission.”

Taehyung leans forward, eyes sparkling. “Hey, you think he even knows he’s doing it?”

Yoongi smirks around his chopsticks. “Not a clue.”

But Jungkook ignores them all.

He walks into the sunroom like it’s the most natural thing in the world, heart hammering in his chest and hands steady only because he’s balancing the plate, and Hoseok looks up when he enters, eyes crinkling with delight, pulling off his headphones as he sits up straighter.

“Kook-ah! Hey, what’s—”

“You forgot to eat lunch,” Jungkook blurts, setting the plate down carefully on Hoseok’s lap without meeting his gaze. “You should eat. You like the buns, right?”

And Hoseok blinks, startled, lips parted, and then he smiles.

God.

He smiles like the sun breaking through a storm, like golden warmth after a long winter, like something Jungkook would do anything to see again, and the omega laughs softly and says, “Aw, Kookie. You made these? For me? That’s so sweet!”

Jungkook’s ears burn instantly. “They’re for everyone,” he mutters, backing away. “I just thought—you didn’t eat, so.”

But Hoseok is already reaching for one of the buns, cradling it in both hands like it’s something precious, and when he takes the first bite, he makes a soft, happy noise that does something dangerous to Jungkook’s insides—something primal and possessive and proud, like yes, feed him, keep him, make him happy.

“You even used the ginger,” Hoseok says with his mouth full, beaming. “You remembered I like that!”

And Jungkook, helpless in the face of that joy, just nods and flees back to the kitchen before he can do something stupid, like sit at Hoseok’s feet or ask him if he needs anything else or press his face to the crook of his neck and breathe in deep.

He slides into his chair like nothing happened, face on fire, heart tripping all over itself.

Taehyung leans in close and whispers, “So, it's safe to say that Hobi-hyung is your favourite hyung?”. Jimin laugh out loud and Namjoon snorts.

Jungkook rolls his eyes, but doesn’t deny it.

The second gift, it’s a bottle of cologne.

Not intentionally. Not really.

He doesn’t wake up thinking today I’ll mark Hoseok with something that makes every cell in my body hum with satisfaction, or let me lace his scent with something that makes my alpha instincts curl up and purr like a satisfied animal, but in retrospect, it’s painfully obvious to everyone else that something beneath the surface is already shifting, that Jungkook’s unsteady hands and scattered thoughts and overactive scent drives are leading him somewhere inevitable, slow and stupid and sweet.

It happens on a gray Sunday, the sky smeared with the threat of rain and the wind carrying the kind of bite that says winter is very much around the corner. Jungkook agrees to go shopping with Jin under duress—something about winter coats and thermal socks and the new humidifier Jin is convinced will “save Yoongi’s sinuses before they implode.”

In truth, Jungkook is mostly just tagging along to carry the heavier bags, trailing dutifully behind Jin through department stores and heating aisles and home goods sections where everything smells like plastic and dust. His brain is foggy and his nose is offended, and he’s about three seconds away from asking if they can just go home when Jin makes a detour through the fragrance aisle.

It’s bright there, well-lit and overly perfumed, the air thick with alcohol and florals and chemical spice, and Jungkook’s nose wrinkles immediately.

“Hyung,” he groans, “this place is—”

“Shush,” Jin says airily, already grabbing two sample strips and spritzing with the confidence of a man who’s never doubted his own taste. “We need something new for the front hallway. The last diffuser is dead, and Jimin said it smells like dusty dog in there.”

Jungkook isn’t sure whether to be offended, but Jin is already moving on, sniffing, discarding, sniffing again, and eventually wandering off to harass a sales associate about base notes. Jungkook’s left to loiter by the display stand, trying not to gag on the sickly sweetness of half the samples when his gaze snags on a small bottle tucked near the back—nothing flashy, just a matte gold cap and dark amber glass, understated and almost easy to miss, which is probably why it draws him in.

He lifts it absently, sniffs the nozzle—

And stops breathing for a second.

It’s… warm.

Not cloying or heavy like most colognes. It smells like golden hour, like heat curling low in your belly, like sunlight filtered through soft linen and skin that still carries the memory of a hot shower. There’s amber, definitely, and a grounding base of cedarwood, but there’s something else too, a flicker of citrus, a breath of brightness that makes Jungkook’s brain stutter, like it’s been jolted awake from something too deep and quiet.

It smells like laughter echoing down the hallway.

Like a body stretched out lazily in cotton sweatpants on a Sunday morning.

Like the scent Hoseok leaves behind on the blankets in the living room when he curls up to nap—clean and soft and something Jungkook can never name but always notices.

He buys it without thinking.

Tells Jin it’s for “testing,” or maybe “gift options for later” and shoves it into the bottom of his shopping bag, the receipt folded neatly inside. He doesn’t touch it again for three days.

Not because he forgets about it, far from it. It haunts him, sitting there on the corner of his desk like a secret he can’t explain, the scent ghosting around his memory until he swears he can smell it even when he’s nowhere near it. He keeps meaning to put it away, or maybe try it on himself, he told Jin it was for testing, after all, but something in him recoils at the thought. It’s not his, not really. It doesn’t feel right on his own skin.

It feels like it’s waiting for someone else.

Then, on the third night, Hoseok knocks.

It’s late and cold, the house dim and hushed, post-dinner lull settling over the pack like a blanket, and Jungkook is mid-scroll through a video when the door cracks open.

“Kookie?” Hoseok’s voice floats in, breathless from dance, cheeks flushed, hair damp at the roots where sweat hasn’t quite dried. He’s wearing leggings and an old hoodie, sleeves pushed up, and he looks like something carved out of every one of Jungkook’s dreams. “You have a spare? It’s freezing in the practice room. Joonie’s got the thermostat set to penguin mode again.”

Jungkook blinks, momentarily frozen by the sight of him.

“Uh. Yeah. Yeah, I’ve got—take whatever.” He gestures toward the pile on the bed, a stack of oversized hoodies and sweats that smell faintly of laundry soap and alpha musk, all clean, all familiar. Hoseok crosses the room easily, comfortable in his space in a way that makes something flutter helplessly in Jungkook’s chest.

And then, right as Hoseok is rifling through the pile, sleeve of one hoodie halfway inside out, Jungkook blurts “Wait. Hang on.”

His body moves before his brain does. He grabs the bag from where it’s hidden under his desk, fumbles with the paper for a second, and thrusts it out like a bomb he’s desperate to unload.

Hoseok blinks, confused but curious. “What’s this?”

“I—uh.” Jungkook clears his throat. “I bought this. I just… I thought. It might smell good. On you.”

The omega lifts the bottle gently from the bag, thumbs brushing the gold cap, and uncaps it for a quick sniff.

And then his eyes go wide.

“Oh wow,” he breathes, grinning. “This is so nice. Cozy. Kinda sexy too, but like… comfortable, you know? Like it’s inviting.” He leans in for another sniff, nose practically pressed to the nozzle, before glancing up with a laugh. “You think this suits me?”

Jungkook’s throat is dry. His hands twitch by his sides.

“You—uh. Yeah. Definitely.”

Hoseok’s grin softens. “You’re really sweet sometimes, Kook-ah. You know that?”

Jungkook just shrugs helplessly, retreating into the safety of his own silence.

He doesn’t see Yoongi in the hallway, arms crossed, leaning casually against the doorframe with one eyebrow arched and an amused smirk on his lips. He doesn’t see the way Yoongi tilts his head and says nothing, because this—this—is all the confirmation the elder alpha needs.

Because cologne is personal. It clings to skin and clothes and bedsheets. It lingers in the air like a promise. And giving it to someone you already crave, whose scent you’ve been drawn to like gravity since your presentation day, it’s more than a casual gift.

It’s permission.

It’s claiming.

And Hoseok, sweet and sunny and oblivious, takes the bottle with him and starts wearing it almost immediately. First at practice, then around the house, then every damn day until Jungkook can’t breathe when they sit too close. And now it’s not just Hoseok’s natural scent curling around his senses, it’s Hoseok and something Jungkook picked, something that makes the back of his brain purr like a satisfied animal every time he catches a hint of it in the hallway, or when Hoseok brushes past him in the kitchen and Jungkook’s alpha lurches like it wants to chase.

But the worst—no, the best part—is that it gives him an excuse.

Because now when they’re curled up on the couch, legs touching, Hoseok half-dozing against his shoulder, and Jungkook ducks his head a little too low to nuzzle the side of his throat, he can pretend it’s just to sniff the cologne. Just checking. Just curious. Just innocent.

“Mm,” he mumbles once, when Hoseok’s wearing the hoodie he borrowed and the scent is everywhere, wrapped around Jungkook like a second skin. “That stuff smells really good.”

Hoseok, without moving, hums sleepily and says, “You picked it, remember?”

And Jungkook swallows around the way his chest aches.

Yeah. He remembers.

His alpha won’t let him forget.

The third gift, it’s a hoodie.

Not just any hoodie—his hoodie, the one Jungkook wears more than any other, navy blue, thick and warm, the cuffs frayed from constant tugging and thumb-worrying, the hem ripped slightly from where it caught on the kitchen drawer handle when he was reaching for a late-night snack. It’s oversized and faded and still faintly smells like bergamot shampoo and the cedarwood bar soap Jungkook swears by, and most importantly, it smells like him. Strongly like him. The kind of scent that clings, that soaks deep into cotton and makes the alpha in him feel embarrassingly proud whenever someone breathes it in and knows exactly who it belongs to.

Hoseok steals it.

Well. Borrows it. But Jungkook doesn’t exactly ask for it back.

It happens on a Wednesday, after a long evening of dance practice. Hoseok had stayed later than usual to perfect a particularly tricky routine, something full of fast footwork and body rolls that Jungkook refuses to admit he was watching from behind the two-way mirror. Hoseok had been glowing when he left the studio, damp hair swept off his forehead, shirt sticking to his back, and by the time they got back to the house, he was shivering and a little dazed with exhaustion.

“Can’t feel my fingers,” Hoseok mutters as he kicks off his shoes in the genkan, teeth chattering slightly. “Whose idea was it to schedule HVAC maintenance in November?”

“Jin-hyung’s,” Jimin answers dryly from the couch, already wrapped like a dumpling in three blankets. “He said it was the only time slot left. You can fight him for it.”

“No thanks,” Hoseok laughs, rubbing his arms. “I’ll just steal something warm.”

He says it casually, like it’s nothing, and Jungkook, without thinking, tugs the hoodie off his own shoulders and tosses it at him. “Here. You can use mine.”

Hoseok catches it with a grin. “You sure?”

“Yeah.” Jungkook tries for nonchalant, scrubbing a hand through his hair. “I’ve got others.”

He doesn’t, not really, not like that one. But the sight of Hoseok tugging it on, of slim fingers disappearing into sleeves too long, of the fabric swallowing him up like armor, it does something to Jungkook’s chest that he can’t name. The omega’s scent begins to bleed into the hoodie immediately, mingling with Jungkook’s own and forming something new, something warm and possessive and deeply, viscerally satisfying. Hoseok flops onto the couch, burrows into the corner like a cat seeking warmth, and Jungkook finds himself staring before he forces his eyes away.

“Looks better on you anyway,” he mutters, voice quieter than intended.

The room goes still for a beat.

Taehyung chokes softly on his tea.

Jimin raises an eyebrow, lips twitching.

Namjoon, perched at the edge of the room with his laptop, doesn’t even look up, just hums thoughtfully, like he’s adding another tally mark to a mental list that’s getting very long.

Hoseok doesn’t notice any of it.

He just smiles that soft, grateful smile of his and snuggles deeper into the hoodie like it’s the most natural thing in the world. “Thanks, Kookie. This is so cozy.”

Later that night, Jungkook’s on his way to the bathroom when he passes the open door to the shared pack room. His steps falter.

Hoseok’s nest is there in the corner, near the wall where the heater blows the warmest. It’s not elaborate like some omegas build, Hoseok’s style is simpler, neater, less chaotic, but it’s still his, still deeply personal: soft fleece blankets layered in shades of cream and forest green, three plushies arranged like little sentries around the perimeter, and a small diffuser misting lavender and pine into the quiet dark. Hoseok likes calm smells, grounding scents that remind him of home and pack.

And right in the center, half-buried, like it’s been tugged into place with careful intention, is Jungkook’s hoodie.

The one Hoseok wore on the couch.

Still unwashed.

Jungkook stares at it, heart thudding, instincts roaring in his ears.

His scent is in Hoseok’s nest.

It shouldn’t mean anything. Not on the surface. Omegas surround themselves with comforting smells, right? The whole pack knows Hoseok nests better when he feels surrounded, when their presence lingers in the cloth and fibers. It’s not unusual for Taehyung’s scarf or Jin’s t-shirt or even Namjoon’s old flannel to appear in the pile. Hoseok once sleepily mumbled something about safety and sunbeams and fell asleep with his hand curled around one of Jimin’s hoodies.

But Jungkook’s scent, his alpha scent, is right in the center. Not at the edges. Not tucked at the bottom or folded politely to the side. Right in the middle, where Hoseok sleeps.

Jungkook doesn’t sleep much that night.

It gets worse the following week.

Or better, depending on how you look at it.

Because Hoseok starts wearing the hoodie more and more, lounging in it after meals, tugging it on after showers, curling up with it during movie nights, and at one point during a sleepy Saturday morning, he pads into the kitchen in it, rubbing his eyes, hair sticking up, and Jungkook’s alpha howls.

Worse still—he starts asking for more.

“Hey, Kookie,” Hoseok says one evening, halfway through a yawn. “Do you have any more hoodies like that one? That big gray one you wore last week? It smelled so nice, like cedar and cardamom or something. Made my whole nest feel warmer.”

Jungkook stares at him like he’s been struck by lightning.

“You—you want more of mine?” he asks dumbly, heart slamming in his chest.

Hoseok just blinks, clearly not reading into it at all. “If that’s okay? I don’t wanna steal anything, but it really helped me sleep. Pre-heat’s coming soon and I’m trying to rebuild the nest a little before it hits me hard.”

And then—as if that isn’t enough to shatter Jungkook’s world into glowing, trembling pieces—he adds:

“You always smell like safety. Like, you make my nest feel whole.”

Jungkook goes very still.

He doesn’t remember how he gets back to his room, only that within the hour, three more hoodies are folded into a neat stack and handed off without a word.

The next night, Hoseok tugs one of them on and tugs the collar to his nose absently, sighing through it like it’s the best thing in the world. Jungkook feels faint.

It’s Jimin who finally says it out loud, voice low and teasing as they both watch Hoseok drift off on the couch again, bundled in Jungkook’s clothes like a sleepy, content sunbeam.

“You realize he doesn’t do that with anyone else’s stuff, right?”

Jungkook blinks. “What?”

“He’s got all our scents in his nest,” Jimin continues, tone deceptively casual. “But he only asks for yours. Only wears yours around the house. You’ve basically moved in there without even knowing.”

Jungkook opens his mouth. Closes it. Opens it again. He has no answer for him.

The fourth gift is jewelry.

Not flashy, not expensive, just a simple braided leather bracelet he’d found on the wrist of a street vendor near the subway station, dark brown with a single silver bead in the center, understated but grounding in the way good things are. Jungkook had been trailing behind Taehyung, holding two paper bags of groceries and tuning out the beta’s ramble about pantry organization, when his gaze had snagged on the tiny stand by the curb, the kind that sells handmade trinkets and incense in glass jars. He hadn’t meant to stop, hadn’t even planned on buying anything, but something in his chest tugged when he saw the bracelets. One was a shade darker, braided tighter than the other. A matching set. Nothing loud or obvious. Just paired.

His feet had moved before his thoughts caught up.

By the time Tae realized Jungkook was no longer walking beside him, the younger alpha had already paid the woman, pocketed the bracelets, and caught up again without a word. Tae glanced at him, one brow arched. Jungkook shrugged, playing it off.

They got back to the dorms just after dusk, the sky streaked in rose gold and soft lavender. Hoseok was already there, unpacking takeout containers and humming something under his breath, wearing one of Jungkook’s hoodies again, a green one this time, sleeves swallowing his fingers. Jungkook’s eyes caught on that too long, and then Hoseok turned and smiled at him, and everything in Jungkook—everything—went soft.

It’s when they’re unloading the groceries that he does it. The moment is casual, easy, small. Jungkook reaches into his pocket like he’s searching for his keys, then pulls out the bracelet and drops it into Hoseok’s waiting palm.

“For you,” he says simply, a little gruff with nerves. “We match now.”

Hoseok blinks at the braided leather, the way it curls lightly against his skin. “Oh my god,” he laughs, bright and incredulous, “is this friendship jewelry? Are we thirteen again?”

Jungkook grins despite himself, cheeks warm. “I just thought it’d look good on you.”

And it does. It fits snug against the bend of Hoseok’s wrist, hugging the warm golden-brown of his skin like it was made for him. Jungkook finds himself watching as Hoseok fiddles with the clasp, his brows furrowed in concentration, and something low and ancient and possessive flares deep in his chest. He can smell it already, the bracelet, how it holds the faintest trace of him. Scented, not strongly, but enough. Enough that another alpha, passing by, would smell it and know.

Know that Hoseok is being courted. That he’s not unclaimed.

It’s instinct, deeply ingrained, dating back to when omegas wore visible collars to show who they belonged to, who protected them, who they had chosen to let in. Times have changed. Omegas don’t wear collars anymore unless they want to—don’t have to. They lead companies, make decisions, stand shoulder to shoulder with alphas, and Hoseok, especially Hoseok, glows with quiet power wherever he walks.

But still, some traditions persist, reshaped but not erased.

Now, instead of collars, it’s jewelry. A necklace, a bracelet, sometimes a subtle ring on a chain. Nothing overt. But always scented. Always meaningful. Always a warning.

This omega is not alone.

Jungkook might not say any of that aloud. Does not even consciously recognize that his instincts are following a playbook written in bone and blood and heat. But somewhere inside him, in the part of him that howled at the scent of his hoodie in Hoseok’s nest, that stood frozen when Hoseok called him safe—that part knows. That part burns with the urge to mark.

He doesn’t realize that Yoongi sees it.

Or that Namjoon does, too.

That night, long after Hoseok has gone to bed, bracelet still on his wrist, the two oldest alphas find themselves in the kitchen, leaning on opposite sides of the counter in that quiet, meditative stillness they’ve always shared. Namjoon nurses a mug of barley tea. Yoongi cradles his phone like he might text someone and then thinks better of it.

“He gave him jewelry,” Yoongi says finally, tone flat but thoughtful.

Namjoon hums. “Yeah.”

“It was scented, Joon. Barely, but enough for any half-awake alpha to clock it.”

“I know.”

Yoongi exhales slowly through his nose. “That’s not subtle. Jungkook’s getting bolder.”

Namjoon doesn’t respond immediately. His gaze is thoughtful, distant, fixed on the kitchen doorway like he’s watching memories instead of shadows. Then, finally, he says, “He’s not doing it on purpose.”

“Doesn’t matter. The intent is still there.”

“He’s not claiming him. Not yet.”

“Could’ve fooled me.” Yoongi sips his tea. “You smell Hoseok lately? His scent’s been shifting. Softer. Sweeter. Pulling Jungkook in like gravity.”

Namjoon nods slowly. “Pre-heat’s close.”

Yoongi looks up sharply. “You think he’ll go to Jungkook for it?”

“I think,” Namjoon says, carefully, “that Hoseok already has. In his own way. You saw the hoodie in his nest. The pile of Jungkook’s shirts? The way he curls into him on movie nights like it’s normal?”

“He’s not stupid. He has to know.”

“He knows,” Jin’s voice cuts in as he steps into the kitchen, calm and decisive, arms folded loosely across his chest. “He’s not oblivious. He’s choosing this.”

Yoongi frowns. “Choosing Jungkook?”

“Choosing every gift,” Jin clarifies, voice gentle but firm. “He’s not accepting them out of politeness. He wants them. You saw his face with the bracelet. That wasn’t confusion, that was fondness.”

“Besides,” Jimin adds from the hallway, leaning on the doorframe with a smug little grin, “he never takes it off. He was adjusting it in his sleep this afternoon. I saw.”

Yoongi glances away, a little grunt in the back of his throat. “I just don’t want him getting hurt.”

“Neither do we,” Namjoon says quietly. “But Jungkook’s not a kid anymore. And Hoseok’s never been one to say yes unless he means it.”

They all go quiet for a moment.

Then Jimin smiles again, sly and knowing. “Can't wait to see what Jungkook gives him next". Yoongi groans.

The fifth gift, it’s a massage

The fifth gift isn’t wrapped, and it isn’t scented in advance, but it might be the most dangerous of all.

It starts at the studio, late at night, after most of the others have already gone back to the dorms. Practice had run long—Yoongi wanted the arm movements sharper, and Namjoon had them repeat transitions until the mirrors fogged—but Hoseok had stayed behind, as he always does, chasing the high of movement and music and the perfect sweep of his own control. Jungkook, predictably, had stayed too.

Not because he needed the extra practice, but because he wanted more time. With him.

“I was gonna try that floor combo again,” Hoseok says, stretching one arm across his chest, still catching his breath from the last run-through. “Wanna freestyle a bit?”

“Always,” Jungkook answers, voice warm, eyes already gleaming in the dim light of the studio.

The track they queue is slower than their usual, some pulsing R&B beat that throbs low through the floorboards, and their movements shift to match it. No counts, no choreography. Just instinct, rhythm, and the electric give-and-take between their bodies.

It starts off playful. Rolling shoulders. Small hops. Mutual laughter. But Hoseok is naturally sensual when he dances, fluid and sharp all at once, hips rolling with easy confidence, hair sticking to his temple in a way that makes Jungkook's hands twitch. His tank rides up every time he waves his arms, showing flashes of smooth, golden skin. Jungkook tries to keep up, mirroring the flow, grounding himself in the way his limbs move.

But he wants to impress him. His alpha stirs beneath his skin, tense and alert, watching, aching to show off. So he shrugs out of his hoodie, revealing the snug black tank underneath—cut high at the shoulders, hugging his chest and arms like a second skin—and Hoseok’s eyes track the movement immediately.

“Damn,” Hoseok whistles, letting his eyes linger. “Someone’s been living at the gym.”

Jungkook smirks, heat blooming under his skin. “You think so?”

“I know so.” Hoseok grins, stepping closer. “Look at you! All grown up and muscly. What, trying to seduce me now?”

It’s teasing. Mostly.

Jungkook doesn’t answer, not verbally. He steps in, smirking, and in one smooth motion sweeps Hoseok up into a bridal carry like it’s nothing, arms flexing as he lifts him clean off the floor.

Hoseok yelps, flailing playfully. “Yah! Jeon Jungkook, put me down!”

“You said I was strong, right?” Jungkook pants dramatically. “Might as well prove it.”

“You’re a menace,” Hoseok says, laughing breathlessly.

But he doesn’t ask to be put down right away. He stays curled in Jungkook’s arms for a moment too long, his scent curling sweeter and sweeter around them. Jungkook sets him down slowly, hands lingering at his waist. His fingers squeeze a little.

“See?” Jungkook murmurs, eyes dark. “Told you I was strong.”

And then, because he’s barely holding it together, he turns away, grabs his shirt hem and drags it up his torso, ostensibly to wipe the sweat from his face, but it’s calculated. His abs flash in the mirror—taut, defined, glistening. Hoseok doesn’t miss it. His eyes go wide, and his bottom lip gets tugged between his teeth. He doesn’t even realize he’s purring until it slips out, soft and involuntary.

Jungkook hears it.

His heart stumbles, his pupils dilate, and his scent sharpens like summer heat on pavement, rich, commanding, spiced with alpha instinct. He takes a step closer. Hoseok takes one back. But his eyes stay locked on Jungkook’s.

He’s not laughing anymore.

The tension thickens. One of Hoseok’s wrists brushes Jungkook’s stomach. Jungkook’s hand finds his cheek, cupping it, thumb stroking soft across the arch of his cheekbone. Their breath mingles. Their chests rise and fall too fast. Jungkook leans in, lips barely parted. His other hand settles at Hoseok’s hip, strong fingers curling in just enough to feel the way Hoseok’s body reacts, how his omega scent blooms, not in panic, but in invitation.

Then the spell shatters.

Jin’s voice echoes from the hallway: “Dinner!”

They both jump, blinking like they’re surfacing from water. Hoseok clears his throat, backing away. Jungkook rubs the back of his neck, cheeks flushed.

They walk to dinner side by side, close but not touching.

But Jungkook’s hand brushes Hoseok’s lower back once as they step into the kitchen.

Later, after everyone’s eaten and dispersed, and the hallway is quiet save for the hum of the dryer and the soft padding of bare feet, Jungkook finds himself outside Hoseok’s door.

He knocks. Soft.

It cracks open.

“Oh,” Hoseok smiles. “Kookie.”

“I—uh,” Jungkook scratches his neck. “Just wanted to say goodnight.”

Hoseok’s smile turns gentle. “Come in for a sec?”

The door closes behind him.

Inside, the air is soft and warm, scented with pine and cotton and Jungkook’s own hoodie folded in Hoseok’s nest in the corner. Hoseok sits on the edge of the bed, stretching his shoulders.

“Ugh,” he groans. “My back’s killing me.”

“You want a massage?” Jungkook blurts.

Hoseok blinks. “You know how?”

“I’m… decent,” he shrugs. “I watch videos.”

A pause.

“Okay,” Hoseok says, lying on his stomach and tugging up his shirt. “Go easy on me.”

Jungkook’s brain short-circuits. Hoseok’s bare back is right there, soft lines, tension under the skin. He kneels behind him, breath shallow.

His hands land on Hoseok’s shoulders.

He starts with pressure points, slow circles, working out the knots. Hoseok sighs. Then moans, soft and pleased, and Jungkook’s entire soul combusts.

“You okay?” he croaks.

“Better than okay,” Hoseok mumbles, face buried in the pillow. “You’re amazing at this, Jungkook-ah.”

And that does it.

Jungkook’s scent spikes, strong, heady, needy. He tries to hold it back, tries to stay composed, but his fingers tremble where they press into Hoseok’s waist. Hoseok’s scent responds—goes hazy and warm, like spiced honey, receptive.

They’re both trembling, breath uneven. Jungkook’s head dips, just barely, lips hovering over Hoseok’s spine.

Then—

The door opens.

“Hyung, do you have the—” Jimin stops dead.

His eyes go wide.

Hoseok in a thin shirt, face flushed, belly bared. Jungkook kneeling over him, hands still on his waist. The air thick with scent.

Jimin sniffs once. His whole body tenses. His pupils flash wide and understanding.

Jungkook bolts upright like he’s been electrocuted. “I—I should go. Sorry—!”

"-Kooki.." Jungkook's gone in a flash, before Hoseok can say anything.

Jimin closes the door slowly.

“…Soo, what was that?” he says finally.

Hoseok raises his eyebrow. "Jungkook was giving me a massage, and you scared him off"

Jimin snorts. “You know I can smell, right?”

“What's that supposed to mean?”

Jimin just stares. Analysing.

The sixth gift, it’s a promise. (+1)

After the massage, after the door swung shut behind Jungkook and the air was still thick with the scent of want and the echo of something almost, Jimin doesn’t hesitate, he finds Namjoon and Yoongi that same night, voice low but eyes sharp, and when he tells them what he walked in on, what he smelled, there’s no room for misunderstanding; it’s not just puppy love or unspoken tension anymore, not just teasing flirtation and shared laughter, but something molten and real and brewing, and Jin joins them in the living room, folding his arms, and after a heavy silence he says, “This is no longer harmless,” and Namjoon nods, pressing fingers to his temple, and Yoongi’s mouth tightens around the rim of his mug, because this—this—is the kind of thing that changes everything if you let it, or destroys everything if you ignore it.

So the next morning, after breakfast, Namjoon pulls Jungkook aside gently, and Yoongi follows, not to corner him, not to scold, but to speak, alpha to alpha, pack to pack, and they sit him down and Namjoon’s voice is soft but serious as he says, “You know you’ve been courting him, right?” and Jungkook frowns, arms crossed, about to protest, but Yoongi cuts in with, “The gifts, the scent-marking, the care, the space, the massage,” and Jungkook’s ears turn pink, his throat working as he swallows, “I didn’t mean to—” but then Namjoon leans forward and asks, “Do you want him to be yours?” and something in Jungkook stutters, then snaps, and the answer that rises up from the deepest part of him isn’t quiet or confused—it’s a growl, unspoken but unmistakable, primal and clear as fire: Yes.

Yes, he wants him. He wants Hoseok in a way he’s never wanted anyone else, not a crush, not a fantasy, but a claim, the instinct to guard, to please, to protect, to possess, but gently, reverently, wholly. The thought of Hoseok being someone else’s curls something sharp and vicious under his skin, makes his fangs itch, makes his blood boil. No one else. His alpha has already chosen.

Jin finds him later that evening, ruffles his hair, and says with a little smile, “Then tell him.”

It happens the next day.

The dorm is unusually quiet when Jungkook comes home, the sun already low and throwing amber light across the floor, and when he toes off his shoes and pads into the living room, it’s Hoseok he sees curled on the couch, half-buried under a throw blanket, hair tousled and face flushed, skin damp with sweat, not in the exhausted way of a dance practice high, but heavy and warm and overheated, and Jungkook’s instincts spike to alert in an instant.

“Hyung?” he says, voice soft as he kneels beside him. “You okay?”

Hoseok hums a little, not quite opening his eyes. “Just… hot. Tired.”

Jungkook presses a hand to his forehead—burning.

The realization crashes into him. His heat is starting.

And Jungkook panics for half a second, mouth dry. “Do you—should I help you get to your nest? I can call Jimin or Jin—”

But Hoseok just reaches out and curls his fingers in the fabric of Jungkook’s sleeve, tugging gently.

“No,” he says, voice low and open and vulnerable. “Can I… stay with you?”

Jungkook’s throat clicks as he swallows. “In my room?”

“Yeah,” Hoseok murmurs. “It’s quiet there. And it smells like you.”

His alpha howls in triumph.

Jungkook stands and helps him up, wrapping the blanket more tightly around his shoulders, guiding him down the hall with a hand firm on his back, and when they step into his room, into that little comfort space he’s carved out alone, all soft golden light and warmth and the rich scent of cedar and safety, Hoseok melts into it like it’s made just for him, like it belongs to him.

“God,” he murmurs, sinking into the beanbag. “Smells so good in here. Smells like you.”

Jungkook’s heart threatens to split. “Lie down,” he whispers. “I’ll stay with you.”

He does. He lies beside him, careful, respectful, but Hoseok shifts until he’s close, until their thighs touch, until his head fits perfectly into the curve of Jungkook’s shoulder, and then he nuzzles, burying his face in the alpha’s throat, arms winding around his waist like second nature.

“You feel safe,” Hoseok says quietly.

And Jungkook can’t stop himself. He curls around him. Pulls him in. Breathes him in—rich, sweet, full of want, the scent of an omega in the earliest stage of heat, and his alpha roars just beneath his skin, clawing, begging to mark, to take, to claim—but he holds it back with shaking hands and clenched teeth, because this isn’t about that.

It’s about him.

“I’ve been thinking about you,” Hoseok murmurs. “A lot lately.”

Jungkook’s breath hitches. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.” Hoseok lifts his head, meets his eyes. “I was gonna ask you. To stay with me. During my heat.”

Jungkook shatters.

Something raw and ancient surges to the surface, and he grabs Hoseok by the waist, pulls him into his lap, presses his nose to the crown of his hair and inhales, scenting him deeply, reverently, again and again, like he can’t get enough, like he’ll die if he stops.

“I’ve been courting you,” he breathes, voice wrecked and low, “this whole time. I didn’t know it at first, I didn’t mean to, but—I have. My alpha chose you. You’re it hyung. You’re the only one I want.”

Hoseok stares at him, wide-eyed and shining.

“I want you too,” he says. “I want you, Jungkook. I want this. I want you.”

And their lips find each other half way.

It starts soft, uncertain and trembling, but quickly ignites, mouths opening, gasps breaking, tongues sliding, hands exploring with new purpose, and Jungkook presses Hoseok down into the blankets, his body bracketing him close, grinding into him as their hips meet, slick scent rising like sugar and smoke, thickening the air until it’s drenched in omega heat and alpha arousal and the sharp crackle of something fated.

Hoseok pants into his mouth, tugging at Jungkook’s shirt, and Jungkook breaks the kiss only to whisper, hot and desperate and true:

“I love you.”

It’s a prayer and a promise all at once, carved straight from his chest and given like a treasure.

And Hoseok smiles, radiant and blinding and real.

“I love you too.”

Then he pulls Jungkook back down, kisses him again, deeper this time, and Jungkook groans into it, rutting slowly against him as Hoseok’s scent spills open, inviting, welcoming, his, and that’s the last gift—his body already offered, his heart laid bare—the final piece in a courtship Jungkook never meant to begin but now would die to finish.

A space. A scent. A bracelet. A touch. A kiss. And now—

A promise.

Of love, of partnership, of forever.

Of home.
