Work Text:
Narida swam into her house with a tired sigh, collapsing on her nest. The sun was setting above, and it was time to sleep, if the goddess newly reinstated in her head would let her.
Have I ever told you how I killed the Nether god?
If I say yes, will you shut up?
No, you insolent fish. I'm sure I told someone the story, but I think it was Mirilix, considering he actually liked talking to me
If you're about to start bemoaning the fact that I'm your host now because you threw him away, I will find a way to exorcise you from my brain in whichever way is most painful for you
Oh wow, that's such an imaginative threat, I'm so scared
Well, if you would let me sleep, I'd be more imaginative in my threats towards you, but since you seem to be intent on keeping me awake all night, you get what you get
It was blissfully quiet in her mind for a moment, and she nuzzled into a pillow with a smile when-
ANYWAY, how I killed the Nether god, we'll call him Lost because that's what happened to him
Oh my woooooord I doooooooon't caaaaaarrrrreeeeee
Narida lifted her head and slammed her face into the pillow with a groan.
If I could smack you with this pillow, I would, do you ever shut up?!
No. Don't you want to learn something about the history of this server? There's no mortals alive to teach you it, after all, they all left or died before you and your little friends showed up.
To be completely honest, 101, I would rather lay on a lightning rod during a thunderstorm than talk to you for one second longer. Narida tried to mentally send the image of a middle finger. But I feel like nothing I say will make you shut up. So please, continue yapping at me so I can go to sleep sooner.
So, Lost. All the mortals seemed to love him for some reason or another, so I took matters into my own hands
So you were jealous and murdered someone over it. She deadpanned, rolling over and resting an arm over her eyes. Real cool of you, we love unwarranted murder.
No, that's not it, he deserved it
Uh huh. Ok, so you killed a guy in cold blood? That's the literal definition of unwarranted murder…..wait no, I killed Mirilix months after I had last seen him. Eh, he had me killed first.
101 ignored her and continued with her story, voice lowering to a dramatic tone.
It wasn't a quick fight, it was a battle. A war. We both fought long and hard, with our respective worshipers trying to strength us. His pathetic mortals could not stand against my might, and I finally killed that stupid little usurper to my power.
Narida could practically picture 101 clutching their fist dramatically as she sang her own praises.
And the Nether fell from its exalted place it did not deserve, to a wasteland, making my dimension the uncontested place of life, as it should always have been.
What about the End?
What about it? 101 snapped, angry at the sudden question distracting from her glory.
I mean, it is another dimension, why doesn't anything live there?
I suppose things someday live there, but the End is not currently a dimension of life. It is primarily a dimension of death, of the cold and the void. It is the closest to the true Void you can find, at least on this server. They scoffed.I don't know what the inept fools of gods and admins are doing on other servers, and I don't want to know. It was bad enough having my server invaded by Merlings and god-puppets.
Y'know, isn't this technically my server? It was empty before I showed up and did that little code thing to make it an actual server again.
True, you did revitalize my world, but that doesn't make it yours. I made it mine when I killed Lost, and I will not relinquish it to some foolish fish.
Still not a fish.
When have I ever cared about what you or any other mortal calls yourself?
When have I ever cared about you or your opinion on literally anything? Call me fish one more time and I swear to The Blood God, I will grab some gold armour and water breathing potions and go on a nice little tour of the Nether just so you have to see it healing.
Ugh, don't go bringing the Blood God into this, those cults are everywhere and I do not need one on my server too.
Then shut up, and let me sleep.
Do you have any idea how boring it is for me? You don't even do anything interesting, you farm all day and you keep talking to the god-puppet, what's he call himself anyway, Avos? Aves? Iras? He's boring too, you'd think hurting someone as much as I did might make them want to wallow in self-pity, but noooooo, he goes and makes some kind of anti-government town. The spider is dead, everybody else just does their own thing and does their job, and I don't even know what the green haired thing is!
Mindima? She's Netherborn, I think. Some kind of demon with avian blood.
Ah yes, Netherborn. That would explain the impertinence. Must be from a completely different server, we never had any "demons" here.
Or it could be because as Avis would phrase it, you're a f#cking b!tch.
……Did you just censor yourself in your own head?
I DON'T LIKE CURSING OK
You literally just censored yourself in your own head. See, this is one of the reasons I came back to you as my host, you're a lot more fun to bug than Mirilix was. As nice as it was to have someone who actually obeyed me, you can only listen to "Yes, My Muse" and "Of course, My Muse" for so long before you go crazy
As opposed to how you are now. The epitome of sanity. Y'know, I think I preferred being dead to having to deal with you, did you get worse hanging out with Mirilix or something? Being dead sucked, but it was better than having your dumb little voice taunting me!
Careful, little admin. I haven't fully tested how the connection can affect you since I have regained some of my power, you wouldn't want me to experiment on you, now would you?
Were you seriously rooting through my memories again? At this point there can't be too much left for you to learn. What, is it like a show for you? Some form of entertainment? She snapped. Shut up and let me sleep, or I will find something that scares or hurts you and I will do it, no matter what.
Sheesh, fine, fine, go to sleep. 101 grumbled. Way to take all the fun out of it.
Narida curled up in her nest, brain finally settling into sleep as the goddess fumed at their lack of entertainment.
At least your nightmares should be something interesting.
