Slowly curling up, Kiara let out a shaky breath as she applied more pressure to her stomach. Lifting one hand away, she hissed out a breath as she looked at the dark liquid on her hand. It was blood seeping from the wound on her stomach. She remembers the last call she made before she collapsed. “He’s not coming, is he,” came as a fleeting thought to her, for the love of her life. She knew he wasn’t going to make it in time, even if he came. Her fiancé, the man she’s never going to be able to marry.
She sat staring out, watching the once bright sky fade from view, as stars form within a growing sea of darkness above. It reminded her of her father. He would wait on the porch, even in the darkest of nights for her mother’s return. And right beside him her grandfather, who stayed waiting with him to escape his own thoughts that came with the night. Thinking of them now, she couldn’t remember which feature belonged to who.
Was it her father that had an amber mix of green and brown or was it a fading blue. Had her grandfather’s hair been dark brown mixed with a growing grey or was it a pure white that always seemed to glow in the sun. She tried but couldn’t remember. Who played the piano? Who was left for dead? Or were they the same man? She just couldn’t tell anymore; they had been gone for so long. She couldn’t think clearly anymore, her mind was getting fuzzy. The irony that she too would pass on like the two people she could no longer differentiate.
With each breath she slowly made, she felt herself slipping closer and closer. Till she could no longer recognize her surroundings. Till she felt nothing but numb. As her eyes goes to lay, a light shone on her but she could no longer will her eyes open. Fainty, the sound of a man yelling, the fleeting feeling of someone taking her into a what she guessed was their arms. In that final moment, a resting smile took place on her face. Gino, he really did come for her.
