Chapter Text
Dearest Readers,
I attended Earl Hoseok's annual ball, and, as always, the décor was superb. From walkway to entrance, the paper lanterns were magical and glimmering, guiding us into a sparkling safe haven. This year's theme seemed to have been crystalline, contrasted with greenery in every corner. It was whimsical and smelled of spruce. I didn't think it was possible after last year's delectable side dishes, but Earl Hoseok's chef has once again outdone himself. I could only describe the banchan as nothing short of mouth-watering, melt-in-your-mouth divinity. But you don't read Rose and Tattler for my food and décor descriptions, riveting though I'm certain they are to some of you.
I can't help but wonder if His Majesty chose incorrectly? Who would have seen it coming? I had the fortune to bear witness as Lord Park Jimin of Rainley unleashed his tongue, with language so vile I'm surprised it didn't strip the wallpaper from the walls. Honestly. I cannot bear to see such uncivil words printed. They were not for the faint of heart, let me assure you of that! Poor Lady Jisoon left the party inconsolably after such a tongue-lashing, the likes of which I've never seen before, all for the audacity of asking for a dance. But then, the Diamond of the Season, the King's sponsored omega, spent the rest of the night languishing among the wallflowers! But who could blame His Majesty? It isn't as though he asks those lucky few to dance for him, because perhaps if he had, we could have all been spared from such a sight. Watching such a pretty creature lead the duke around? s. Not to mention his uncouth tongue. I shudder to imagine under what monstrous conditions he was raised. At least his tight-lipped companion, Lord Taehyung, seems to be familiar with how to follow an alpha's lead and how to smile banally.
Speaking of Duke Min, I wonder how long he's planning on staying now that his father has passed? I would expect just for the funeral, but I've heard it's already passed. I heard through the grapevine that he and his father had a notoriously poor relationship. What a strange time for him to suddenly be reappearing in the 'ton. Could it be that he's searching for a spouse? Moreover, for a man who so vehemently hates ballrooms, I wonder whether it was the Diamond of the Season that he was really after or if it was something altogether different. I've heard no whispers about him the past few years, but I can confidently say he has grown into a handsome man these days. No sign of his younger brother, Lord Jihoon, seems to still be avoiding the 'ton for the time being.
Did anyone else notice Lord Jungkook's debut? Such a handsome young man, it will be interesting to see who, if anyone, he decides to pursue this season. Though there were also plenty of new faces this evening. I'm curious to see where Lord Bangchan ends up, whether he follows in his family's footsteps of tradition or not. I can't recall the last time I heard about one of the northerners attending an event in the city. I had the honor of meeting Lady Nayeon and her silver tongue. Lady Sana was also in attendance, sporting foreign fashion, with her extra bulky skirts and towering wig. There is the new Lord Jeongin in attendance, also from the traditional northern packs, though he does seem quite reserved and makes no effort to meet anyone. A shame, he'll certainly be a handsome young man in a few years. Two northerners in one year! How very interesting. Lady Lily graced us, and this writer couldn't help but notice how quickly her dance card filled up; why, I do believe she spent all night on her feet.
I, personally, witnessed Lord Damon sneaking out into the gardens with Lady Rose, only to return shortly after and leave with Lady Lisa. One would hope they might be sneakier in the future if they wish to avoid drawing this writer's attention. Though their transgressions were at least subtle. Lady Mira, all I can say is shame on you. And to the person who smells of cloves, next time, try a scent-blocking lotion, not all of us want to deal with that rancid odor for hours on end.
Lord Beardsley has cemented himself as the dancer to be avoided this season, much like last season, as it seems the man cannot afford even the cheapest dance tutor. Did anyone else witness Lord Hoshi collide with the punch bowl, spilling enough punch to drench the poor, Honorable Captain Shownu? I imagine he wishes no one had, however, there is no escaping from my sharp eye. What a way to make an entrance, though. Perhaps we'll see more of Lord Clumsy in the future. Though apropos of Captain Shownu for being a stalwart gentleman who helped Lord Hoshi clean up, and made an early departure with Baron Minhyuk. One only wonders how those two manage to get along as well as they do. It's like an overly excited puppy tripping over its own feet, next to the very aggrieved, but patient, doting grandfather.
I do wonder whether Lord Rainley can possibly overcome such a disastrous introduction as this, however. I wonder how the king is feeling? He's never had to revoke a sponsorship before. I wonder if this is cause enough to start considering one… Will we be seeing Lord Seokjin at the next ball, or has he decided spinsterhood is the best he can do for himself? And I wonder whether the same can be said of Baron Minhyuk, who, after everything, still insists on showing up and trying to catch someone's eye. And I wonder how much longer Viscount Oscar hopes to keep his affair with the serving girl a secret? Oops, guess the cat's out of the bag now.
And if I were you, I would be steering clear of the Choi family; I wouldn't want the dreadful state of their financials to follow you.
Truthfully yours,
Rose and Tattler.
P.S. We look forward to seeing you all at Lord Dashwood's ball.
