Chapter Text
When Will Byers goes missing Steve feels the electricity pulse through his veins so violently he feel like he was vibrating.
He feels wrong his powers start going out of control he wakes up in the middle of the night sweating and electricity pulsating though his body, he wakes up one night so violently he bursts his lamp's lightbulb. He's trying to ignore it but something is wrong he's living, breathing and circulating electricity in his veins he feels haywire and he can't release it, the power leaving physical reminders that he needs release on his skin.
Steve tries to be normal again.
Barbra Holland goes missing. She goes missing at his stupid party he feels wrong, the feeling get worse. He ignores it and finds another distraction.
He wants to feel normal again.
They told Steve to run he was running, he was going to run away about to take off for the hills but he sees the lights flicker, he hears their screams. He can't leave, he can't go back to normal or whatever he thought normal was. The demogorgon is about to get to Jonathan, he's unarmed after dropping the nailed bat then suddenly something hits the creature sending it reeling back, it's Steve Harrington holding the nailed bat. He's swinging the bat striking the creature, every hit connecting its slimy flesh the thing howling in pain.
"Steve get it in the trap" Nancy shouts pulling Jonathan off of the floor.
Steve nods he continues swinging hitting the creature before the demogorgon lets out a high pitched screech and swings its arms sending the nailed bat flying out of his hands.
"Fuck" Steve breathes out panting in exhaustion.
The creature growls gearing up to attack him.
"Steve!"
He doesn't think he just knows he has to protect Nancy and Jonathan, he has to kill the monster in front of him. He shoots out his hand out blue electric bolts traveling up his skin about his palm and hitting the creature, it howls and sizzles the flesh on it's body frying and burning as it staggers back in pain. Steve gets it into the trap the monster in pain and sluggish, he stumbles turning to the pair behind him.
"Light it the fuck up!" Steve grits out feeling the blood leak out of his nose.
He ends up passing out seconds after hearing the demogorgon screams.
Steve wakes up on the couch he can hear voices from another room, he winces and notices he's shirtless all his scars out in the open, he feels so vulnerable it makes his feel unsafe.
"Wheeler! You need to tell me why Steven Harrington is passed out on Joyce's couch, you better tell me the truth this time"
Chief Hopper is here Steve notes, he gets up and goes into the direction of the voices entering the kitchen, Hopper's back facing him as he enters.
"Hopper-"
"Steve"
Hopper turns around, Steve can see Joyce who is standing in front of the Chief, Nancy and Jonathan sitting down at the table.
"Where's my shirt?" Steve feels uncomfortable with their eyes on him.
"There was blood on it, we washed it" Nancy says after a minute of silence.
"Why?"
"What do you mean?" Nancy stands from the table.
"My shirt, why did you take it?"
"I-"
"I should've gone home, I need to go home"
"Steve"
"I need a shirt and I need to leave"
Nancy tries to reach out to him and he recoils, his eyes flash blue and the lights flicker.
"You're like her" Joyce gasps out.
"Who? I'm like who?" Steve looks at her confused.
"There's little girl she has powers like you"
"She alive?"
Joyce doesn't answer him. Steve sighs nodding then running a hand through his hair.
"We all die eventually at least she got to see the outside world before she did. She doesn't have to suffer and be terrified anymore"
"Steve what-"
"Don't tell anyone about me, I wasn't here okay. I can't risk Pa- Brenner finding me"
"He's dead" Hopper says, "Brenner is dead"
Steve eyes Hopper sceptical before a grim smirk is plastered on his face.
"He wants you to think that bet he's out there and if I'm right I can't stick around to find out"
Steve turns around moving back into the living where he woke up, searching for something to wear, he hears the other follow behind him seconds later. Jonathan throws a shirt him as he turns around to look at the group. Steve catches it throwing it on quickly and nodding a thank you before going through his pockets before fishing out his keys.
"We have to talk about this Steve you can't just-"
"You don't understand" Steve pauses looking at all of them, "none of you will understand"
"Then help us understand" Joyce reaches out for him only to get a flinch away from her as an answer.
Steve spins around heading for the door stopping and sighing before he reaches the handle.
"Just please stay away from the lab and the people in it they're not to be trusted" he gives a warning then leaving quickly.
Steve calls in sick for two weeks.
When Steve Harrington returns to school he ignores Nancy and Jonathan, he remains being friends with Tommy and Carol after apologising to the couple for his previous outburst. Steve Harrington goes back to being king but becomes less of an asshole. Nancy watches him, keeping tabs on her ex-boyfriend he ends up befriending a band kid named Robin he looks happy with her. Jonathan speculates they could be dating. Steve acts like Nancy and Jonathan don't exist only interacting when needed which is pretty much never, Steve Harrington is a stranger to her and possibly to everyone but they don't know it, yet.
The upside down happens again.
