Up, Down, And All The Way 'Round

Summary:

Shouta and Hizashi had met when they were young. Love blossomed between them. A quiet kid, and an Adventurous loner. They were practically written in the stars, love made to last a lifetime. Until... Until it didn't...

I hope You enjoy! It's not really up to the part where Izuku comes in, and some of the plot is just weird, but I rushed in order to get this to you!

Work Text:

Shouta sat, watching in awe as the screen played. The number one hero. He'd be a hero one day.

"And I will not come back until I do!" All Might called. He was a new hero, but had quickly risen up in the charts to number one. He had been in America at first, but then had moved to Japan. Now he was moving back to America. He was watching the interview of his departure. He had vowed to take down every villain in America, as he had done in Musutafu. It wouldn't last long, but it would be amazing none the less.

"I will be setting up in... the Amazon jungle! What? Of course I know what it is! It's code for the city of shopping malls! Anyhow, I hope to see you all there, villains! Plus ultra!"

Shouta ran across the sidewalk, a balloon in which he had taken a marker and scribbled, Plus Ultra!, on it in his hand. He was pretending to be fly around, smiling happily and making explosion sound effects. Not looking where he was going, he ran into a tree.

'Ow...'

But he got back up and sped off again. Heroes don't go down that easily!

'Villains beware-'

"Plus Ultra!"

Shouta skidded to a halt. He turned in the direction the voice had come from. The house looked run down, and old. But he had clearly heard the voice of a kid. Heroes were brave, and so was he. He was also curious.

The house was a cluttered mess inside, broken stairs, torn wallpaper, and all the other things that could be expected from a run-down building.

"Oh! There's villains down there, I have to beat them up and SAVE EVERYONE!"

Shouta stumbled. That was... Loud. Too loud for a normal kid, so it must have been a quirk.

Cool.

He looked over to a room and entered it. And that's when he saw him.

A boy, blond hair hanging down his shoulders and clothes a bit torn. There were red tinted goggled over his head, cracked but not broken. He was facing a large poster board with hand-drawn villains on it, making exaggerated sound effects as he threw aimless punches and kicks.

Shouta took a moment to eye the ripped up hero posters on the walls.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?"

He jumped back, hands thrown to his ears as the boy looked him up and down suspiciously. How had he gotten so close so fast?

He had lost his grip on his balloon, and spared a moment of sadness as it floated away.

"Don't you know this is an exclusive hero lair? Only the coolest heroes can get in here. Not just any kid with a plus ultra balloon and soft hair!"

He just now registered the hand in his hair and flinched away. This boy sounded a mad at him.

"Do you think you've got what it takes to be a cool hero? Well? I'm waiting!"

"U-Uh, well, I- uhm... I-"

"Alright, you're in."

"Wha-"

"Welcome to the super duper most awesomest hero club ever!"

The blond boy held out a hand, presumably for him to shake. He hesitated. Was... Where had the anger just gone?

"What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?"

"N-No, well... I-uh... It- well..." He didn't really like talking to strangers.

"I... I don't bite, yo." The boy took his goggles off and revealed deep, swirly green eyes. They were... Mesmerizing.

"You and me are in the hero club, now." The boy took off one oh the stickers from his shirt and placed it on Shouta's forehead. It was one of those stickers that came from an orange or an apple. He would keep it forever.

"I saw where your balloon went, let's go and get it! Oh, my names Hizashi!"

"...Shouta."

How were they supposed to get that?

They had climbed up the stairs, and Shouta's balloon was in the corner of the small little room at the top of the house. It was right there. Only one problem. The floor was sort of... Not. Only a lone plank layed flat over the hole.

"Go on, get it!" The boy- Hizashi said excitedly, giving him a little nudge onto the plank. He froze.

"Go ahead." He was nudged again, almost halfway across now.

He looked back at Hizashi, who smiled encouragingly.

"You've got it, just a few more steps! Go on!"

Heroes are brave.

He took a step.

"AAAH!"

It was late at night. He was reading with his flashlight, although it was quite difficult with one of his arms in a cast.

And then his balloon flew through the window.

He flinched back as the stick it was tied to hit his book. He shrieked when a face popped up at his window next.

"HEY SHOUTA!"

"EEEAAAH!"

Hizashi laughed, climbing through the window.

"I thought you might need a little cheering up! I've got something cool to show ya!"

And that's how he found himself under a freshly made blanket fort half past midnight. Hizashi was still in his clothes from earlier, and that was a little... Odd?

"I'm about to show you something that I've never shown anyone before, ever. In my entire life!... Well, except for that one dog who tried to steal it... Do you swear that you won't tell anyone?"

Shouta nodded seriously. Hizashi was trusting him with a super cool secret secret. He would protect it with his life!

"Cross your heart... Do it!"

He did.

Hizashi nodded and pulled a book from behind his back.

"My hero book!"

It wasn't any thicker than a notebook, but the cover was fuzzy and had the words 'My Hero Book' Written in weird colors that clashed with the background...

It was the coolest book he'd ever seen.

Hizashi opened it, and Shouta gasped, delighted at the photo of All Might that slid out.

"You know him. All Might, the number one hero. When I grow up, I'm going to be a cool hero too. And then I'm going where he's going,"

'America' Shouta's mind supplied. He looked at the next photo, clearly cut out from a map of America.

"It's just like here, but... America! Do you wanna know where I'm gonna live?"

Hizashi turned the page, and showed a little torn picture of a forest with a big, bright blue and orange house in a tree.

'The Amazon!'

"The Amazon! The forest of wonder!" The boy said, sounding wistful.

So.

Cool.

"I tore this right out of a library book!"

Shouta gasped. A library book? That was... Like... Against the laws! Heroes don't break laws! and yet... When Hizashi did it, it was awesome.

"I'm gonna move my club house up into the tallest tree in the whole forest, and meet all the dopest creatures! No one knows everything that hides there. And once I'm there,"

Hizashi flipped through the rest of the book, which were all empty pages.

"I'm saving these for all the adventures I'm gonna have and people I'm gonna save!" He tapped a particular page, labeled: Hero stuffs I'm gonna do.

"But... I don't know how I'm gonna get there..." He huffed, pouting. Shouta didn't like that look on his face. So, he stood up and pointed to a little replica of a plane on his shelf. Hizashi immediately stood up and cheered.

"That's it! You can fly us there in a plane! Swear you'll do it! Cross your heart! CROSS IT!"

He did. How many times would he have to cross his heart with this boy?

"Good. No take backs, a promise is a promise. Right!?"

He nodded frantically, not really wanting to feel his new friend's wrath.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow, Shouta!" Hizashi then hopped back out of the window, turning back and raising a fist.

"Villains beware!"

Shouta did the same. "P-Plus Ultra."

They stared at each other for a moment, before they both grinned.

After all, Hizashi wasn't a stranger anymore.

"You know, you don't have to talk all that much around me if you don't want to. I like you!"

And then he was gone.

He remembered the days they used to play for hours on end, running and jumping, swinging and singing. Pretending that they were heroes.

He remembered UA, where Hizashi would get bullied for his personality, and Shouta would stand up for him.

He remembered the day they got their licences. The day Shouta proposed.

He remembered their wedding day, just the two of them. Because, since when did they need anyone else?

He remembered fixing up that old house he'd first met Hizashi at. Painting the walls an eye burning mix of bright orange and storm gray, symbolizing their odd, yet beautiful love. Cutting and nailing shelves to the walls. Getting two soft chairs, a green one that spun and had stars all over it, and a black one that was soft and had paw prints on the back. Painting the outside to look just like the house in Hizashi's old tree house picture.

He remembered picnics on a hill, when everything was simple. When they only patrolled twice a week. Hizashi had too much energy, running up the steep hill and urging Shouta to go faster.

He remembered cloud-watching, Hizashi's hand in his.

He remembered balloons. Balloons from a petting zoo that doubled as a quirked animal rescue. Hizashi getting along with the cockatoos, and his balloons almost floating away. Adopting their cats, Balloon and Sushi.

He remembered quiet evenings, wrapped up in nothing but the warm arms Hizashi so graciously let him snuggle into.

He remembered long patrols, switching from two days a week to six. Coming home and settling on the ground with their cats.

He remembered Hizashi talking about adopting a child. But they never had the time to get around to it.

He remembered saving up for a trip to the Amazon. Hizashi being so excited. But patrol always clashed with the flight times, and something always came up that needed money. Their cats needing the vet. The paint on the walls chipping. They never got around to it.

He remembered... He remembered a slow dance. The night... The night Hizashi had left on patrol for a raid...

He remembered seeing that raid on the news.

He remembered... He remembered Hizashi. His love. His everything.

He remembered Hizashi's face on the list of casualties.

He remembered death. The feeling of death. The feeling of his heart. Dying.

He remembered retiring as 28. Too young to retire, but too young to die. Hizashi was too young.

...

He remembered a little green hired boy appearing on his doorstep...

Huh...
