Just Promise Me We'll Be All Right

Summary:

When Wei Wuxian gets pregnant after going into heat around Lan Wangji, the two are made to get married, but with the war with the Wen Clan just around the corner, how will their new family survive?

Notes:

So... I've never written an omegaverse fic before (granted, I've consumed a decent amount of omegaverse media at this point lmao), so this is a new experience for me. I do feel like this series lends itself really well to the omegaverse though, so that definitely helps. Anyway, I've been thinking of writing a story like this for a while, so I hope you enjoy it!

I don't entirely know all of the content warnings that are going to be needed throughout this fic, but if there's a chapter that needs one, I'll indicate it at the start of the chapter

Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Wei Wuxian rolled over in bed, kicking the covers off of himself, his whole body far too hot, sweat beginning to gather on his forehead despite the thin sleep robe he was wearing.

He groaned, looking over to his right where Jiang Cheng was sleeping soundly, somehow oblivious to his plight. His familiar scent was usually one that was deeply comforting, but that night, that Alpha scent was more annoying than anything else. He didn’t quite understand why - just that it wasn’t what he wanted. It was an Alpha scent, but also one that was coded under family in his head. He definitely didn’t want family right then.

He closed his eyes, once again giving a futile attempt to fall asleep. He was tired - earlier that day had been the archery competition as part of the discussion conference - but he was still awake for some reason.

He sat up, annoyed at his inability to sleep.

Maybe he should go take a walk. Maybe that would help let him go to sleep.

He got out of bed, walking quietly to the door, only stopping to briefly put on shoes before leaving, heading out into the courtyard in the middle of all the guest quarters that had been reserved for the Yunmeng Jiang Clan.

The moon was high in the sky, casting the area in a soft and pale glow. It was pretty, but he didn’t stop to pay attention to the scenery. Now that he was outside, he was starting to grow anxious, like there was somewhere he was meant to be going.

His footsteps were quick as he made it out into the deserted streets of Qishan. He crossed his arms over his chest. Despite the nighttime chill, he was still far too warm and his heart was beginning to pound.

Where did he want to go?

He wandered aimlessly for a while, not knowing what to do, before, all of a sudden, an idea hit him, stopping him in his tracks.

He quickly turned, heading back toward the guest quarters, bypassing the directions that would lead him back to the room he was sharing with Jiang Cheng, and instead turning toward where he knew the Gusu Lan Clan were staying.

He wanted to see Lan Zhan.

As soon as the idea had hit him, it had become all-encompassing. He needed to see him right then, otherwise he would go crazy.

He had just seen him earlier that day after not seeing him for almost an entire year. And, he had, in fact, made him so angry that he had quit the archery competition early. He still didn’t understand why accidentally pulling off his forehead ribbon had made him so upset, but he had been angry regardless.

Maybe he would still be angry when he got to him. Maybe he would take that forehead ribbon and tie it roughly around his wrists, binding them, making him otherwise powerless as he threw him down on the soft sheets of his bed, using his long fingers, calloused and rough from years of playing the Guqin, to open up his robe until he was laid bare. Maybe he would then hold his arms above his head as he viciously thrust into him, punishing him for his transgression.

His heart was racing as he practically ran the rest of the way, entering a similar courtyard to the one he was staying in.

There were no lights on in any of the rooms - that was typical, especially for the Lan Clan - but it also made him realize the flaw in his plan. How was he to find where Lan Wangji was staying?

He spun in a circle, looking consideringly at all of the doors. He was seriously considering going up to one of them and sneaking inside on the off chance that he happened to choose correctly, when he was distracted by the sound of footsteps coming from the entrance at the other end of the courtyard.

He turned toward them, quickly making his way over. Whoever it was would probably be able to tell him where Lan Wangji was staying. That would make this whole thing ten times easier.

As he got to the door though, a familiar scent hit his nose, almost making his knees buckle underneath him.

He hurried through, after the figure who was faced away from him, walking with purpose in the other direction.

“Lan Zhan!” he called as he ran up behind him.

Lan Wangji barely had time to turn around before Wei Wuxian slammed into him, wrapping his arms tightly around him, burying his face against the side of his neck, breathing in that intoxicating smell of sandalwood that always accompanied him. Instantly, all of the anxiety he had been feeling faded away, replaced by an intense emotion of want.

“Wei Ying?” Confusion laced his voice. “What…?”

All of a sudden, he stiffened, attempting to push him away, but Wei Wuxian held on tight, not willing to give up this embrace.

Lan Wangji’s voice was stern. “Wei Ying. Get off. You need to go back.”

Wei Wuxian looked up at him through half lidded eyes. “But Lan Zhan… I want to stay with you. You smell so good…” He nuzzled his face back against the crook of his neck.

Lan Wangji took a sharp breath before speaking again, the smallest loss of composure evident in his voice. “You are in heat.”

In heat? Now that he brought it up, that made some sense. Vaguely, he remembered the medicine he was supposed to take every day to keep this from happening. He had been in such a rush packing to get to the conference after days of procrastination that he had left them at home. When he had realized, he had decided that it wasn’t such a big deal, not even bringing it up to anyone. Maybe he should have, but that was in the past now. The only thing he currently cared about was the man standing in front of him.

He took one of his hands, rubbing it up his chest and to the side of his neck, stopping it there, rubbing his thumb across his jawline. He wanted to put his lips right there. To press hundreds of tiny kisses against the skin. To feel that warmth.

“Wei Ying.”

“Hm?” He looked up at him, his face flushed red.

“Stop.”

“But Lan Zhan,” he whined. “I want you to touch me. Won’t you please touch me?”

Wei Wuxian grabbed hold of Lan Wangji’s wrist. He put up no resistance as he guided his hand down his body, until it was pressed between his legs, against the hardness that had been growing ever since he had thought about him.

“See? I want to be touched by you so bad.”

Lan Wangji took a shuddering breath. “I cannot.”

He rolled his hips forward against his hand, breath hitching at the sensation. He wanted so much more of that. He wanted to be touched until he came fully undone.

“Why not?”

“You are not in your right state of mind.”

He groaned. Stupid Lan Zhan and his stupid morals.

Maybe he could goad him into doing something. He reached up, not hesitating as he ran the tips of his fingers across the soft fabric of the ribbon tied to his forehead. He had been so mad before. Maybe reminding him would make him do things to him.

“Please? I want you to take advantage of me. I won’t be mad later. I promise. I just want you to touch me. I want you to kiss me and hold me and then I want you to be inside of me and for you to-”

He was suddenly cut off by Lan Wangji roughly lifting his jaw up, desire clouding his gaze as he pressed his lips down firmly against his own, not hesitating for a moment as he thrust his tongue into his mouth, his scent fully washing over him.

Wei Wuxian’s mind went blank at the sensation, desperately pushing himself further against him, wanting to get as close as possible to the man before him. This was the first time they were kissing, yet it was so comfortable, like he was meant to be like this.

He hardly knew what was happening, just aware of the sensation of hands gripping the underside of his thighs as he was hoisted into the air, not breaking the kiss as he wrapped his arms tightly around his neck, legs going around his waist.

Lan Wangji had one arm wrapped around him, holding him snugly against him, while he moved his other down, letting his fingers wander across his thigh, his touch firm and sure.

He still wasn’t touching his bare skin though. Every touch was through the thin fabric of his robe. He needed it to be skin to skin. He could hardly stand the torture of how close it was to what he wanted.

He broke away from the kiss. “Lan Zhan,” he groaned, voice whiny and full of need.

He grabbed his hand, taking it to his chest, sliding it under the neckline of his robe, the sensation making his whole body shiver.

Lan Wangji didn’t need to be told twice, once again taking the lead as he began running his fingers across his bare chest, greedily groping his skin.

Still being held aloft, Wei Wuxian began thrusting his hips forward, erection rubbing lightly against his stomach with each movement. It was okay, but it wasn’t enough. He wanted so much more.

Suddenly, electricity surged through his body as Lan Wangji’s fingernail ghosted across his nipple. He gasped, leaning forward, catching his lips against his. Lan Wangji opened his mouth, biting down on his bottom lip, the coppery taste of blood entering his mouth, before continuing to kiss him almost desperately, fingers roaming his chest.

After a few seconds though, Lan Wangji pulled back from the kiss, panting as he looked at him, eyes full of so much desire.

Just as Wei Wuxian was about to lean back down to kiss him again, Lan Wangji redoubled his grip on him before beginning to move, carrying him somewhere. His brain was too hazy to care where they were going. The only thing he cared about in that moment was being touched.

As they moved, he leaned down, placing his lips against the side of his neck, beginning to suck and nibble at the skin there. His efforts were rewarded as Lan Wangji began breathing more heavily - a sound filled with nothing but desire.

Before too long though, they reached their apparent destination as Lan Wangji stopped before kneeling down, laying his hand behind Wei Wuxian’s head as he guided him to the ground. It was a little bit cold, but was hardly noticeable against his superheated skin.

They were in some kind of stone structure. He almost questioned why they hadn’t gone back to his room, but quickly decided he didn’t care. He had a lot better things to focus on.

Lan Wangji had immediately begun removing Wei Wuxian’s clothes, fingers holding none of their usual poise as he practically ripped them off of him, leaving him bare in front of him as he knelt in between his legs.

Lan Wangji’s eyes roamed his body, staring at every inch of him.

“Don’t just look,” Wei Wuxian said, wrapping his legs around his waist, squeezing them around him.

Something almost predatory flashed in Lan Wangji’s eyes as he reached down, wrapping his palm around his bare cock, quickly starting to rub his hand up and down. Wei Wuxian let out a loud gasp, bucking his hips into his hand. That was so much better than anything else he had gotten to experience that night. His mind was completely blank, only filled with the intense pleasure coursing through his entire body.

He was only vaguely aware as Lan Wangji leaned over him, lips coming down to suck at the skin of his chest and neck, teeth occasionally joining in to bite, the pain somehow fading into the arousal, making everything somehow more intense.

All of a sudden, the sensations inside of him rose from a low tide to something much more tangible and intense, his whole body starting to tense up, his cock twitching and throbbing in his grasp. He was speaking, words coming out of his mouth, but his head was such a mess that he couldn’t find it in him to comprehend his own words.

Suddenly, his vision went white as everything overflowed inside of him, cock twitching hard, muscles contracting. He squeezed his legs more tightly around him, a plethora of moans falling from his mouth.

He didn’t know how much time passed before the waves of pleasure began to die down, but when he opened his eyes, Lan Wangji was getting undressed, his eyes intently focused on his lower body.

Wei Wuxian groaned. That had felt really good, but there was still something missing. He wanted more. He wanted something inside of him.

He rubbed his legs together, for the first time noticing just how wet he was, the viscous fluid coating the inside of his thighs.

He reached his hand down, pressing the tip of his middle finger into his dripping wet hole. It was so hot inside of him, his finger easily slipping all the way inside as he began rubbing it around the rim.

“Lan Zhan,” he moaned, “Hurry. I want you.”

He barely had time to finish his sentence before Lan Wangji grabbed his hand, ripping his finger out of him, not hesitating as he replaced it with something so much bigger and harder, throbbing as it pressed against his hole.

He took a sharp breath as Lan Wangji pressed his cock inside of him, opening him up wider than he had ever been before. It was his first time, but the wetness along with the burning desire in his stomach meant there was no pain or hesitance as he slid inside.

The moment he was fully sheathed inside of him, he pulled back out, leaving only the head of his cock inside as he pushed back in. He began repeating the action, over and over again, eyes squeezed shut as he gripped his hips, fingertips pressing so hard into the skin that they would likely leave bruises.

Wei Wuxian was hardly aware of anything else happening in that moment. The only thing that mattered was the intense feeling of pleasure and the sensation of finally being filled after being empty for so long. He was being fully embraced by Lan Wangji, his scent gripped tightly to him.

He was vaguely aware of Lan Wangji muttering something through his own moans of gratification. He forced himself to listen in, making out the words he was saying.

“Wei Ying, Wei Ying, Wei Ying…” He was repeating his name over and over like a prayer.

Wei Wuxian’s chest was on fire, his heart pounding as he wrapped his arms tightly around him, once again pressing their lips together, Lan Wangji messily kissing him back, saliva dripping down their chins, only adding to the wetness between them.

Suddenly, Lan Wangji broke the kiss, instead flipping Wei Wuxian around, cock still inside of him, so that he was on his hands and knees, being filled from behind.

Lan Wangji’s cock was beginning to twitch inside of him, somehow hotter and harder than ever before.

His stomach was numb from the repeated intrusions, his abdomen filled with heat.

Lan Wangji had already been pounding into him, but in this new position, he started going even harder, the sound of skin on skin echoing around them.

Lan Wangji reached his hand underneath Wei Wuxian, beginning to stroke his cock. The sensation made him gasp, the already uncontrollable arousal growing higher and higher.

It didn’t seem as though anything else existed in that moment but for the two of them, bodies pressed together as they joined each other in pleasure.

Both of their moans began to get higher and more frequent, such intense rapture contracting in his gut as Lan Wangji’s thrusts became more and more frantic.

Lan Wangji leaned over him, his body hot as he took the outside of his ear into his mouth, biting at it with his teeth.

Wei Wuxian couldn’t take it any more. His whole body was on fire, filled with nothing but intense pleasure.

After a few seconds, Lan Wangji’s hips started becoming more and more erratic. He pulled away from his ear, his lips touching down briefly on the back of his neck before moving to his shoulder, biting down hard as he gave one last thrust, hips stilling as his cock throbbed violently inside of him, filling his insides with something hot and wet.

Wei Wuxian moaned, his own arousal peaking inside of him, vision going white.

When he came to, the first thing he noticed was that his back was pressed up against something warm - Lan Wangji’s chest - he quickly realized. He was still inside of him, hips pressed flush against him as he pressed soft kisses to the top of his head, his cheeks, his neck.

He was so tired now, the intense desire he had been feeling before melting away into a feeling of contentment and satisfaction.

He leaned his head back, closing his eyes, letting himself stay wrapped up in Lan Wangji’s comfortable scent.

When he woke up in the morning, he was laying in bed.

When had he gotten back there? How had he gotten back there?

If not for the soreness spread through his body, he might have believed the previous night was nothing more than a dream.

Had Lan Wangji carried him back there? The thought of that made his chest light, almost giddy.

He was just about to sit up when the door to the room opened. He looked over to see Jiang Cheng walking inside.

“Oh, so you finally decided to wake up then?” Jiang Cheng said, walking over to the bed, setting a bowl down on the bedside table. “You missed breakfast. You’re lucky I grabbed you something.”

Wei Wuxian sat up, ignoring the pain in his body, flashing Jiang Cheng a warm smile. “Thanks. I couldn’t sleep last night.” He wasn’t going to bring up the fact that he had solved that problem by sleeping with Lan Wangji.

Speaking of which, he had slept with Lan Wangji. The thought of that made his heart thump in his chest. He had been flirting with the man practically ever since he had met him. He was the most gorgeous man he had ever seen - and he was a lot of fun to tease and just to be with. The flirting had never been reciprocated, but it had always been fun to do.

Maybe after this, something more would come of their relationship. He would like that.

Jiang Cheng handed him the bowl he had grabbed when, all of a sudden, he froze, frowning, his control over his pheromones lapsing as they flared in what Wei Wuxian knew was protectiveness.

“Why do you smell like that?”

He really didn’t want to tell him. If he knew what had happened, he would probably go try and kill Lan Wangji for touching him. He would just play dumb.

“Smell like what?”

He narrowed his eyes. “Like Lan Wangji. His scent’s all over you.”

Wei Wuxian shrugged. “I don’t know. I did run into him last night when I couldn’t sleep and we hung out for a little bit though.”

Speaking of which, why had he been out that late anyway? Had he been so upset about the forehead ribbon that he couldn’t sleep either? And, if he was so upset about it, why had he slept with him? There were definitely a few questions he needed to ask him the next time he saw him.

Jiang Cheng frowned. “He didn’t do anything to you, did he?”

Wei Wuxian laughed. “Of course not. You worry too much.”

“Maybe you don’t worry enough,” Jiang Cheng placed the bowl into his hands, but didn’t say anything else, seeming content to drop the matter for the time being.

That was good. He didn’t need the two of them fighting.

Wei Wuxian began eating, chest light. Good things were going to happen. He could feel it.

Notes:

In terms of timeline, this is starting off at the archery competition, which is about a year after Wei Wuxian studies at the Cloud Recesses and, as far as I can tell, a little over a year before the start of the war
