Chapter Text
Glen wondered if it was a bad idea. Looking back at this moment a few months later, he would realize it was the beginning of something new. He was wearing a hoodie when he walked inside the restaurant to order fish and chips. He knew it was a shitty disguise like Clark Kent and his glasses but that would have to do. It wouldn’t be dramatic to have random pics of him buying food. Everyone needed to eat after all.
Brisket was waiting outside. As a dog father that made him anxious and he hoped it wouldn’t take too long. There was not a lot of people and he was able to order for two. He quickly left after that and headed to Daisy’s place. He had her address but he’s never been there. He knew he had to be careful not to be seen. He looked around the building and spotted what he was searching for. Finding the back entrance anywhere was a skill you develop as a celeb.
‘ This way, boy’ Glen told his dog pulling slightly on his leash.
They made their way to the right floor and he rang the doorbell. Daisy opened the door and looked at him surprised.
‘ Hey’ He smiled sweetly ‘ I brought fish and chips’
‘ You know how to speak to girls. Come in’
Brisket barked.
‘ You too’ Daisy giggled.
That sound warmed Glen’s soft heart.
‘ You can put this on the table’ She closed the door behind him ‘ Lucky I haven’t eaten yet’
Daisy went in the kitchen to grab dog food for her son. After all, she raised him with Glen in Oklahoma. With their busy schedules, it was hard for her to see Brisket but she kept food just in case. When she went back to the living room, Glen was taking off his hoodie. He was wearing a tee-shirt underneath but it was riding up and she could see his skin and his perfect abs. Daisy quickly looked away.
‘ We should eat while it’s hot’ Glen said.
‘ Yeah’ She put on the floor a bowl of food and another of water for Brisket.
The little dog barked and started to eat.
‘ I raised him well’ Glen smiled feeling like a proud parent.
‘ We raised him, I’m still his mom’ Daisy sat down at the table.
Glen joined her and opened the bags containing the food. He gave one portion to the young woman.
‘ Thanks’
They ate in silence for a few minutes.
‘ Oh, congrats for Sense And Sensibility by the way’ Glen said ‘ You’re gonna be an awesome Elinor, I know it’
‘ Thank you’ Daisy smiled, proud of herself.
It was one of her favorite novels, she was a fan of Jane Austen. Being part of this new project was very exciting and she couldn’t wait.
‘ I guess you can die happy now’ Glen teased her.
‘ I guess you’re right. Also, I don’t think you’re here just to see me. It’s the Gigi situation, isn’t it ?’
Damn, she knew him so well.
‘ You heard about that’ Glen sighed.
‘Kinda hard not to. It’s all over the internet. You went from heartrob to…’
‘ Asshole ?’ He suggested.
‘ Tell you what. We finish eating and we’ll talk about it’
‘ Fair enough’
Glen observed Daisy looking everywhere in the kitchen. She swore she had a bottle of alcohol somewhere but she couldn’t find it. She saw it the other day !
‘ It’s ok’ Glen said ‘ We can do without it’
‘ Oh, I’m begging to differ. This conversation needs booze’
‘ At least let me help you’
‘ How ? You don’t know this kitchen’ Daisy pointed out.
‘ I was simply offering’
‘ I found it !’ Daisy exclaimed excitedely.
She showed him a bottle of wine as if she just dug up gold. Glen couldn’t help but laugh at her exagerated reaction.
‘ Are you making fun of me, Mister Powell ?’ She placed her free hand on her hip.
‘ Of course not, Miss Edgar-Jones. I would never dare’
It had always been easy to talk to Daisy. That was probably why he came here tonight. While she grabbed two glasses, he remembered how they met. It was for the chemistry read for Twisters. He had already been casted as Tyler and they were looking for the perfect Kate. There had been talks and they had their eyes on Daisy Edgar-Jones. What struck Glen was the fact that she was British. Of course, a lot of actors and actresses playing in the american industry were British, Canadian or Australian but he wondered why she wanted to play Kate Carter, born and bred in Oklahoma.
Glen had heard about Daisy. He knew she was in a few movies and in a show called Normal People. One night, it was very rare that he had free time, he decided to watch Where The Crawdads Sing. He found himself captivated by her acting and got excited to meet her in person.
‘ Hello, I’m Daisy’
Those were the very first words she said to him. Simple and sweet.
‘ I’m Glen’ He smiled and shook her hand.
He didn’t know why he noted that her skin was soft.
‘ Shall we start ?’ He asked.
‘ Yes, I’m ready. Oh, Kate’s supposed to be blonde so imagine me with a wig’
Glen looked at her brown hair. It looked good and he thought Kate would be great as a brunette too. It wouldn’t change anything in the movie.
‘ You’re a funny one’ He chuckled.
‘ I’ve been told’
Glen nodded and invited her to sit down. He sat in front of her across the table.
‘ Alright, so we’re supposed to do the parking lot scene where they banter’ He said.
‘ And Kate won’
‘ She did. I’m pretty sure that’s when Tyler decided to marry her’
‘ Too bad it’s not in the script’ Daisy smiled ‘ But they’ve only known each other for a week so that would be a bit too fast’
‘ True’
They started to read the scene. Someone was doing the parts that weren’t Tyler or Kate.
‘ Yeah, you can always trust a guy who puts his face on a t-shirt’ Daisy/Kate snorted.
The people in the room laughed at that. Daisy had easily slipped into an american accent for the conversation.
‘ Well, it’s just my opinion but I think you’re a perfect Kate’ Glen complimented her.
‘ Thanks. We make a good team and I always said I wanted to play with all the internet boyfriends’
‘ Oh so I’m just a tick on your list ?’ Glen winked.
‘ Maybe’ She giggled.
The producers thought Glen and Daisy had an « explosive » chemistry and that it worked very well. So Daisy dyed her hair and the movie was shot. Glen enjoyed every scene he had with his partner/love interest in Twisters. They quickly became friends because they had so many things in common like randomly dancing.
Glen also found out she had a boyfriend. They were keeping it lowkey because Daisy wanted her private life to stay private. At least some of it. The price of being famous. Did Glen feel disappointed when he learned she wasn’t free ?
He didn’t want to dwell on that. It was probably his brain playing tricks on him. For weeks, he had to play Tyler who was in love with Kate. It could be confusing.
But he noticed he was happier when Daisy was around. She made him smile and laugh.
Glen didn’t want to admit that he liked their onscreen kiss more than he should have. It was almost unprofessionnal. Then it was Twisters summer press tour. All the interviews and movie related stuff he did with Daisy...Oh and Anthony too. But somehow, Glen could only see Daisy.
He noticed that she liked to touch people. So it shouldn’t matter that she often touched his arm or his thigh and not Anthony’s. It shouldn’t mean anything.
Glen wondered who had the brilliant idea to put them in the tornado simulation machine. He didn’t know if he wanted to strangle them or to send them flowers. Being this close to Daisy felt like a sweet torture.
Here Glen was with a crush on a woman he couldn’t have.
