Chapter Text
The first time Jeremy Gilbert died, he woke up with a sore neck and enough nightmare material to last weeks. That was nothing new, he’d barely been sleeping since his parents died. What was new however, was how he couldn’t stop dreaming of some tiny village he’d never been to before, and a family he knew nothing about.
It wasn’t ideal of course, neither was his new and sudden fear or dogs, but he was making it work. At first he brushed it off. He had literally died -why wouldn’t he have freaky dreams after that mess. But as weeks passed the dreams only became longer and more immersive
He wasn’t alone in these dreams. He started to recognise the faces of the others. A family from a far away land, who spoke in words he couldn’t understand. Even when he began to speak it back to them, the words came from somewhere inside he did not know.
The most startling thing about the dreams was how vividly he could picture them after he woke up. Unlike any dream he could remember having before. He could remember every second of the dreams —except names.
It was a blank gap in his mind, he was sure he spoke their names in their unknown language, likewise them to him. Yet each morning he would try try try to recall them, to no avail.
Eventually he stopped trying, Mystic Falls had too much going on all the time. He had to focus on staying alive, and didn’t want to rely too much on his live saving ring.
It was easier to just accept it- he could live his life with the weird dreams and no names. It’s not like they were important.
Unfortunately for Jeremy, in Mystic Falls nothing is ever that simple.
