Work Text:
Golden noon rays of sunlight graced the two of you perched in the field of lilies. You basked in the glow as you lay your weary head on the shoulder of your lover. Your soft hums could be heard amongst the cool breeze as you and the king just observed the flowers sway in dance with the setting sun.
“My King…” your voice broke the serene atmosphere with a tiresome rasp. King Xavier turned to face you in concern, his deep blue eyes searching your face for any signs of discomfort.
“Do not fret, I’m simply worn, but we should seek shelter as the sun is slipping behind the horizon.” You gave him your best reassuring smile as your thumb brushed against his, your hands intertwined between the two of you. He stayed silent a moment as he observed you, before turning back to the afternoon sky with a sigh.
“You are quite right, the restless souls of the night may come in hoards once more lest we get a move on.” He straightened as he rose to his feet, his heavy armour clattered and jerked with his each movement. He offered you a hand with a rueful smile, and you accepted somewhat shyly. After the nights that you had endured, warding off the dreary souls of the perished, it had been an age since your king had appraised you with such intimacy.
You were spent after you scourged for a meal together and made do with a short bath separately in a stream within the thicket woods. You both had collapsed on top of the hill of lilies afterwards, in stupor as the days of fighting had finally caught up to you. At first the both of you were silent, your proximity respectfully apart from one another.
When the two of you finally spoke however, you naturally drifted into one another, in requited comfort. Xavier in this prolonged state of angst was completely novel to you, as despite being brooding or phlegmatic he was to everyone else, he had always approached you with such adoration. It bothered you when the past many moons he had a dark cloud over his head, it pained you that you couldn’t make it all go away, but to see your Xavier return to you was overwhelming to you more than you could imagine.
As you walked hand in hand, you ducked your head away to mask the light rogue and the grin on your face. Xavier, your king, merely glanced at you in an inquisition. Perhaps too tired to interpret why you had averted your face from him, as he led to his steed. The dark mare huffed as you approached as its hooves scraped against the grass. You cleared your throat as you straightened your spine, your gazes met as he guided you onto his horse. Once you had settled atop the saddle, did he seem to find the answer to a question never uttered.
“My Queen, you have had a troublesome few nights,” his soft tone made you flush. He climbed atop, his body pressed to your back as he reached around you for the reins. “I assure you, you are the most important to me in this journey, there’s no one I want by my side more than you.” You felt your breath stutter as his candour, his eyes crinkled in the corners as you flushed further at his admission.
“Shall we, my love?” You parted your lips to reply, but the words escaped you as Xavier captured them in a kiss. You gave in to him without a moment's thought, his kiss, his gaze and his smile made you feel weightless. When he cut away from you abruptly, and noticed your apparent ardor breathlessness, you were even more embarrassed than before.
“My King…” Your hand snapped up to shield your lips. He chuckled at your reaction, and the horse cantered forward into the wooden thicket. Even as a regal knight leader of a powerful kingdom, his boyish simper made your pulse flutter. Despite your marriage to each other, you found it difficult to openly exhibit your feelings.
Like how your proximity to Xavier made the hairs on your arm stand on edge as you made your way through the woods. His tresses whipped against your arm with each movement of his steed, his Clymore sword sheathed by your thigh heated your skin. It was a testament to you both, as you traversed the mystical planes to purge the spirits together, alert with adrenaline for any signs of threat. Now, however, as the path seemed clear and peaceful, with no sign nor trace of hostile nature. You were unsure of how to behave around your brave king who could wield his bulky sword effortlessly with one hand.
Xavier was silent once again as he led you to the camp you’d set up two nights ago. The thick cloth of the tent strained against the rope as the wind clawed at it. The glow of the setting sun illuminated the large tent in an orange wash of light, as you neared your tent. Xavier dismounted his steed, a hand on the hilt of his sword as he held the bridle steady of his mare. You climbed down, your eyes unable to tear away from him as your feet hit the ground. He moved to make quick work of securing his mare and to untie the flap that held the tent shut. You hadn’t realised that you were staring at the way the wind played with his hair, his tense back, his strong arms, just every part of the way he moved. As he stood up, he remained stoic as he lifted the fabric to guide you inside.
“After you, my lady.” You ducked inside, your skin buzzed as you took in the cushions and your made up sheets from the previous night. It was improper to be this far away and this long without your lady in waitings’, even as you were with your husband. The cavalry had been sent word to reach you both by dawnbreak tomorrow. This was your last night alone with each other, and that was the one thought that raced through your mind as you lit the lanterns with a surge of your evol.
Xavier sat on one side as he began to unclasp the bindings of his armour. Wordlessly you helped him undo his shoulder plate and the rest of the clasps on his coat. Your king said very little as you helped him out of his layers, or as you brushed his hair aside to continue your work. Once he was down to black undershirt, Xavier straightened up and turned to face you, one hand rolled the sleeve of his shirt up as his eyes met yours.
This is your last night alone together.
You could not say it out loud, but you are thought of it, incessantly, avidly, yet too timid to voice it. Xavier’s expression is unreadable as he sighs softly, and unable to bear his lack of an expression you snatch his wrist. The sudden action causes the both of you to pause, his dark blue eyes gape at you as you feel emboldened to continue. You trace your fingers faintly up in his forearm, as he muffled a surprised gasp.
“What’s the matter?” You draped your other arm over his shoulder as you closed into his embrace.
“When will we return to us, Xavier?” You don’t want him to be concerned for you, yet you cannot help your forlorn tone. “I yearn to have you back, my lord.” He leans into your embrace as you say that. His hair tickles your cheek and stirs as you sigh against him. “Is it so self-serving of me to ask of that?” You’re almost limp against him as he pulls you down into his lap atop the cushions. He let out a sigh through his nose as he brushed a few wayward strands away from your face.
“Have I frightened you, my love?” His calloused fingers coax your face to look at him. “Or perhaps the journey has been difficult for you, my Queen.”
“It’s been difficult for us.” You replied tersely, your tone comes out a lot more stern than the King has ever heard. He is stunned as you go on, shifting so that you are face to face, your hands cupped his sunken cheeks. “I need us, I need you and I to be whole again.” You proclaimed softer this time.
“I promise we’re still us.” With a tender smile and a whisper of his voice, you had melted all over. “No matter what happens in the future, my Queen, we will always be ‘us’.” he pressed his forehead to yours, and even as your sorrow left momentarily, you could feel tears form in the corners of your eyes.
“Xavier,” That was all you could say as your lips met in a passionate kiss. Your hands tangled into his hair as your tongues danced together. Your hips rolled instinctively against Xavier and he broke apart with a startled gasp, his eyes flickered from your eyes to your lips as in surprise.
“Did I hurt you, my King?” Your hands held onto his shoulders as you observed his discomfort. His face was flushed and he tried to take deep breaths when you felt his hardness probe against your thigh. It dawned on you why you elicited such a reaction, you felt compelled to push even further, even as Xavier gave you a deterrent look.
You ground your hips against him slowly, and Xavier hand curled into your hips as if to leverage any form of control from you. He huffed as held you still, his heated gaze made you wet unlike you’d ever experienced. “Do not tempt me, my queen.” His voice dropped lower, the very same way when he spoke to his subjects.
“I want you,” your voice came out as a purr, even to your own ears. You shuffled the bunched material of your dress to your waist as you tugged your undergarments down past your knees. Xavier could only watch you, enraptured as your hands found purchase in the material of his undershirt. “Please Xavier.” You whispered, as your face inched closer to his.
This is your last night alone together.
You did not utter those words, even as the words are right there on the tip of your tongue, yet it was clear what you said to him. He wasted not another moment as he captured your lips in a searing kiss. Your veins buzzed alight and you moaned against him. Your hands immediately began to undo his tented breaches, swiftly as he kissed you deeper. His hands shoved at the straps of your sleeve, and pushed them down to the crooks of your elbow to reveal your chest to his heated gaze.
He entered you in one stroke as he guided your hips down with both hands. You whimpered at the fullness, and he withdrew slowly, teasingly before he thrust back into you. “Xavier-” You couldn’t help but arch your neck, his lips forged a path of molten kisses on your exposed skin even as his thrusts were slow.
“I’ve never seen this side of you, my queen.” He whispered softly against your ear. You bit down from your lip to stifle your feeble gasps. “It’s riveting, I almost cannot contain myself.” You gasp as you rock your hips down to take his member deeper, his short nails dug into your bottom in warning as you did.
“More, Xavier…more-” Your voice hitched as he suckled on the sensitive skin of your neck. “Faster.” You moaned as he obeyed, thrusts increased in speed as you bucked and gasped into the crook of his neck.
“Look at me, my light.” His command came strained as his hand tangled itself in your messy locks. You lifted your gaze to meet his deep blue eyes, hooded with pleasure. He drove into you with a lot more force as your core started to tighten and tense. You could hardly breathe as you approached the pinnacle, and you arched your back into him as your movements became just as untamed as Xavier.
“Tell me how much you love me,” his voice was soft, even as he grunted at the way you squeezed down on his dick. It drove you mad how close you were to climax, yet Xavier relented as he repeated his demand, this time much harsher than previously. “Say it!”
“I love you my king!” You cried out as his hand entangled in your hair jerked your head back. “I love you- ah, I’m yours…” You shuddered against him, his thrusts made your hands claw at the back of his shirt. Your walls coiled around his member, and with a few harsh thrusts you both unraveled in each others’ arms. Your moans and heavy breaths resonated through the air, even as Xavier rolled you onto the cushions. His arms wrapped around shoulders, and you could feel the mess of your damp juices stained on your clothes.
“Our final night…” Xavier panted against your head, before he paused to clear his throat. “It won’t end like this my love, for we may not get much sleep tonight.” You giggled as you hid your face against his chest. His warm scent washed over you as you hummed with him.
“Just as I’d hoped,” you whispered bashfully. He chuckled through his nose as he brought you up to his lips, to share a tender kiss with you. A final night full of tender love that occurred again, and again, and again…
