Work Text:
“Siren song fucks you up.”
Annabeth says it, and Percy agrees. He didn’t hear it like she did, but he knows. He’s had it buried in his throat since he was born, would use it when he wanted something, and he’s lucky his mother was blessed in a way that let her resist the worst of it so he learned not to use it by the time he was five.
See, sirens are obligate carnivores. Their songs dig into their victims’ minds but sirens aren’t deaf, and their singing drives them into a frenzy too. It’s a hunting tactic, so their songs make them want food.
Percy usually wanted food too.
He’s half human, so he can eat like one, but when he was young-
There are a couple people and monsters that are missing chunks of flesh after getting too close to baby Percy’s teeth. Percy tries not to think about it. He refuses to sing, too. He can lose his mind to his own songs, and as an adult, it won’t be extra cookies he sings for.
