Furina watched Subaru be mysteriously taken away from what seemed to be his homeworld, only to end up in a place that wasn't Teyvat. She watched him interact with the 'Emilia-tan' he mentioned all the time.
She watched him die to the Bowel Hunter multiple times. She watched the wolgarms inflict their curse on him. She watched a girl smash him into pieces with her Morningstar. She watched his world freeze over from a calamitous beast. She watched him be possessed by a monstrous being. She watched him as he was chewed on by a horde of rabbits. She watched him get crushed as though he fell to the ground only by a transferred pain. She watched him get burned to death.
Return by Death. The phrase sent a shudder through her spine. She'd never imagine such a tragic power to fall into such innocent hands. She cursed that monster of a witch that damned him with such an ability. And to think… he had used that ability in Fontaine as well.
Almost as if responding to her desires, the projection showed him appearing in Fontaine. She watched him handle his own matters in Poisson and as a member of Spina di Rosula, noticing how happy he seemed despite his true wish to return home. She watched him return to Poisson one day only to find a major disaster that occurred there, with several citizens of Poisson being claimed by the rising waters. Rescue operations were going on just as he approached. She noticed in horror that Navia's typical hands, Melus and Silver, had gone missing and were confirmed to have dissolved as well.
Subaru took his own life. He already knew that he shouldn't, but he couldn't allow such a fate to befall people so close to him.
"Why?!" Furina cried out. "Why would you… that's… it's my fault! Why didn't I act on the rising water sooner?! Why… why am I so pathetic…?"
A pair of hands appeared on her chest, reaching from her back. "You're not pathetic."
"Subaru…" Furina choked out. "I… I saw it all… Return by Death…"
"I went through nothing compared to you! What's some mere loneliness against constant death?!"
"Hey, hey, don't say it like that, alright? This isn't a contest. I was hurt by what happened, yes, but you were hurt by what happened to you as well. That's the only thing we should be comparing, not how much hurt we have gone through."
Furina hissed through her teeth as she turned around and hugged Subaru back, resting her head on his chest.
