Work Text:
If the person that keeps knocking on his door doesn’t shut the fuck up in the next three seconds, Tony Balerdi will burn this entire apartment complex down.
It wasn’t a threat, it was a goddamn warning.
He gets up with a soft groan, tossing the throw blanket off of his rather comfortable figure and narrowly missing the empty wine glass on the coffee table as he stomps towards the door. Anger didn’t even encompass what he felt right now.
Any other night, it would’ve been okay. Preferable, even! But tonight was the first night that he would get a full 8 hours of sleep, and the person that dared wreck that peacefulness was going to get murdered. Violently.
Would he look like a crazy serial killer if he came to the door with a kitchen knife?
Maybe he had a little more wine than he could safely handle. Or maybe it was the fact that he hadn’t seen his boyfriend and one of his best friends in ages since they were stuck at a conference, blocked in by weather. Or maybe it was the fact that he hasn’t had a day off in two fucking weeks, and that he was woken up in such a manner made him this… he mentally threw up his hands. Violent. Filled with rage. Lívido.
In any case, he quickly undoes the locks on the door and wrenches it open, nearly getting hit in the face with the repeated knocks.
“Mierda!” He bites out, tempted to slap the hand out of his vision. “What do you think you’re doing, you jackass? It’s three in— the.. morning…”
Realization slaps him in the face as he takes a tiny step back, finally processing who was right in front of him. Covered in snow from most likely the trek from Helene’s house to his apartment, not wanting to bother her with the drive to and back. A cocky smirk on his face, holding his backpack in one hand and a case of luggage in his other.
“So. That’s where my other hoodie went, huh?” Adam asks, tilting his head for a moment before motioning. “You gonna let me in, or are you trying to make this moment last longer?”
Adam. Adam was back. And looking like a fucking angel in the midst of the draft coming into his now cooling apartment, Tony’s eyes still popping out of his head. Surely he wasn’t drunk hallucinating this, right?
Despite the confusion, he lets Adam in and shuts the door behind him, drawing the hoodie closer into himself and trying not to let the embarrassment rise to his cheeks. “You’re back early.” Is all he murmured, watching as Adam drops his stuff off by the door and makes his way into the living room, where the evidence of Tony’s night was still standing stark on the coffee table.
“Savagnin. Nice.” Adam comments, picking up the blanket and holding it in his hands. “You weren’t asleep, were you?”
Tony deflates, just a bit. His accent comes out in full force with a wince as the words flow freely. “Dozing off.”
There wasn’t exactly much he could do to save face here. Still drunk on some wine from earlier, standing in one of Adam’s favourite hoodies and some boxer shorts, shivering from the coolness on his skin and burning from the look Adam was giving him. Surely he would’ve gone into the bedroom by now, assuming Tony just needed his sleep given the violent reaction from earlier.
He squints without his glasses nor his contacts on, and sees it was just about to turn 4 in the morning. Maybe there would be enough kindness left in the world for Adam to let him sleep, to save the chagrin for the morning. Let him sober up just a bit.
Without even noticing, the soft blanket that was wrapped around him from earlier on was being draped around his shoulders, tucked into the collar of the worn and warm hoodie.
“You look exhausted.” A soft murmur, and suddenly he meets Adam’s piercing blue eyes. He should look away, but finds that he missed those eyes more than he thought he would’ve.
Sighing, he nods, resisting the urge to fall against Adam’s shoulder. “Not much to do around here other than work when you and Helene are gone.” He gives a small smile. “I have the day off.”
“So, I guess that just means we have to make the most of it?” Adam asked, his smirk still firmly in place before dipping his head and capturing Tony’s lips as gently as he could. His hair was still wet from the melting snow.
“Let’s go to bed. A little sleeping-in is in order, huh?”
Before Tony could even move towards the bedroom, let alone move— he’s being swept off his feet in the middle of the foyer into a bridal carry, even letting out a pathetic little squeak in return.
“Adam!” He gasps, kicking his legs slightly. Even though he knew that the other man had a penchant for romantic gestures like this these days, it never fails to sweep him off his feet— literally, in this case.
They make their way towards the bedroom, even in the dark there are no missteps. It isn’t long before he’s half dropped, half gently placed onto the soft duvet.
And of course, the bedroom window had been left opened, leading to a cold draft in the room. There would be more complaints coming from him if he’d not immediately started snuggling under the blankets, Adam joining him soon after.
“What’s for breakfast tomorrow morning?”
Sleep. You. Both if that’s possible.
“Pancakes.” Tony simply answers, suddenly too tired to think of anything else. A basic answer, probably. He’ll wake up to whatever Adam decides on, anyway. He trusts him.
Maybe the two weeks he’s worked in a row was catching up on him. Maybe it was the fact Adam was finally home again, allowing him to relax for once. But it doesn’t take much for Tony to fall into his embrace, instantly feeling better than he has in ages.
Sleep almost takes him in her blissful embrace before he hears a whisper, clear as day.
“I bet you stole that hoodie just ‘cause it smelled like me… right, Tones?”
Embarrassment floods through his body.
Asshole. “…Shut up.”
