Chapter Text
~The Breaker Box is an interesting place. A bar placed on the outskirts of the small harbor town of Casa. Older residents remember it lively and bustling years ago before it took a downfall about 10 years ago. After that people stopped visiting and the place shut its doors perhaps suddenly to some, 6 years ago. Now people are buzzing with rumors about the bar once again opening with a club-like show taking place almost every night. It didn't help that the new host took the people by storm. A lovely gentleman with long white hair and a dashing smile, by the name Volt.~
Volt trudged up the stairs sighing as he opened the door to the apartment above the bar. The crowd had been lively, it seems that the word did get around and people have been pouring in every weekend to see the new bar (more like the man) in town. This first room to the apartment was a ‘staged living area’ or at least that's what Eddie called it till Volt started using it like a real one.
Volt slowly made his way to the door in the back, which was covered in locks yet they were all open at this time of night. The old door creaked and groaned under the weight as Volt leaned on the door frame peering over at his partner as he was bent over a bench soldering small pieces of metal together in some box looking contraption. Volt, who was far too tired to walk over, gently knocked on the wall causing Eddie to jolt slightly, looking in the sound's direction. Eddie's shoulders visibly relaxed as he laid eyes on Volt and he took off his goggles with a long sigh.
"Hello Spark" Volt said charmingly with a small smirk on his exhausted face. Eddie responded with a small half smile as he walked up to Volt, raising a hand to check over Volt's face. To Volt’s trained eye he knew Eddie was looking for injuries or cracks on his skin, but a small part of Volt’s heart leaped as Eddie dragged his callused finger tips lightly across the fair toned skin.
"How was the show?" Eddie mumbled as he worked, observing with a trained eye. Volt hummed, letting his eyes close for a moment.
"It was great as always, I only do the most amazing work." Volt's face set smug with his answer till a stray bolt of electricity from Eddie fingertips hit him suddenly on the neck. He tsked and groaned. "I do need to limit Johnny's performances, I fear." Eddie rubbed the spot he shocked subconscious and let out a small chuckle.
"Sometimes I can hear him up here." Volt smiled a little as Eddie pulled away and walked over to the chair to prepare it. The chair. The chair was something Volt didn't care for but he knew it was necessary.
It was a electric chair, used on prisoners for death and torture but for Volt it was the only thing that kept him alive. It was outfitted with softer than typical restraints and more small wires to connect to his heart as well as his skull. Volt trudged over once again, sitting with the little grace he had left. Eddie began almost immediately on the leg and wrist restraints. These weren't really used to keep Volt from running away more to keep his body as stable as it could as the electricity flowed through him. Eddie moved up to work on Volt's chest just as Volt let out a ragged breath, the night wearing him down and his breathing had started to suffer. Eddie's eyes widened in worry at the sound and quickly opened up Volt's buttoned shirt, scanning his chest.
"Spark-" Volt tried to play off funny, almost sexy but Eddie's mumbles covered up the attempt.
"Are you having trouble breathing? Maybe one of the lungs collapsed, here breathe for me again." Eddie put a hand flat on Volt's chest and eyed up at him expectingly. Volt lowered his eyes in disappointment and breathed as instructed. Eddie's brow furrowed as he noticed nothing wrong.
"See, Live wire? I'm just fine-" Again Volt’s words went unheard as Eddie backed away, a hand on his head as the other gestures out in front of him as he mumble ranted.
"If the breathing becomes a issue I don’t know how I’m gonna get another pair of lungs, fucking smokers all over town. I can ask Farya but that would be too much. I cant believe I fucked this up, I was positive those would work. I searched for a year." As Eddie continued his rant, Volt grew more and more agitated. He was made to protect Eddie, even from himself and as he watched Eddie curl more into himself and pinch his nose in anger and frustration, Volt’s instincts were screaming at him to help Eddie. Volt tested the restraints, cursing slightly at the strength of them.
"Spark" He tried to speak over Eddie, who didn't respond.
"Spark, Eddie. I’m just fine" Volt became more frantic, pulling at his wrists and ankles restraints.
"Eddie. Come here. Please." Volt hissed as pain settled around the restraints, his hands glowing blue as the hue slowly creep up his arms. Eddie kept going, mumbling to himself, running a hand down his face.
"Eddison!" Volt shouted as he trashed his body slightly, making more of an impact as he jostled the chair a bit, creating a harsh bang like sound. This did the trick and Eddie's eyes shot to Volt’s, concerned covering his face along with a bit of fear. Volt made grabbing motions with his fingers as he pleaded.
"Eddie, I am completely fine. You did a wonderful job. The crowd was lively tonight. I must have over spoken." Eddie's eyes softened as he came closer, giving his hand over to Volt who gave it a firm squeeze. Eddie spoke in a low tone.
“Yeah, You’re just a bit winded.” Volt nodded as the blue faded quickly from his skin as Eddie looked over his chest once again, placing wires and sticky pads in the appropriate spots. Volt tensed slightly when Eddie let go of his hand and continued his work silently. Eddie knew how much Volt disliked this chair, or more disliked the fact he couldn't move while in it but it was the only choice and he knew that Volt knew this as well.
It was a conversion they have had a few times but Eddie still hated putting him in that chair. Volt was silent as like with himself as he put the head piece on and adjusted the metal pieces to Volt’s temples. Volt’s eyes caught Eddie's for a moment and the dark haired man cowered. Before Volt could say anything, Eddie was already double checking and moving to grab the rubber mouth piece. Volt made a grimace and rolled his eyes slightly.
"Eddie-" Eddie shook his head.
"I know but you have to. Do you wanta lose those teeth?" Volt gave him a tiny seconds long glare then allowed Eddie to proceed. Volt hated how degrading this felt but knowing Eddie didn't like it either made him feel a little better about the situation in general. Eddie patted Volt’s knees as he stood to full height then headed to the other side of the workroom. Volt took one last deep breath and prepared himself. Eddie watched over him from the wall with the switch, a giant old fashioned lever, as he prepared his stopwatch. Volt's eyes were closed and his face focused as Eddie took this as the charming man’s sign that he was ready.
Then with a heavy heart, Eddie pulled down the switch, ticking his stopwatch as he watched Volt’s body light up. The electricity flowed through him violently, his body shaking and convulsing as he pulled away from the chair, arching and jolting. Eddie watched Volt’s finger tense and twist as the blue tint made its way from the tips slowly once again. Volt’s blue hue was an enigma of sorts, a side effect from the creation process. Eddie had been pouring hours into it in the beginning, thinking that if it was exposed then they could be put in massive danger. Yet, Volt insured him that it was connected to his emotions and he would regulate them himself.
Volt's hair lit up with a bright glow and sparks, yet to Eddie's surprise every time, it never reacted like human hair does to electricity. It always laid flat with slight volume and curl, the way Eddie had styled it when he made him, years ago. Volt’s eyes also glowed when this process happened, yet Volt rarely opened his eyes. Eddie couldn't help relax slightly as Volt did not scream this time. He only screamed when he was terribly worn out or overdue for a recharge.
Once the 15 seconds are up, Eddie unceremoniously pulls the switch down and the buzz in the room winded down as Volt visibly went limp in his seat. Eddie rushed over as always, fear ruling his actions and unbuckled the restraints, ankles then wrists then chest and heart wires and then the temples and finally that stupid mouthpiece.
Volt kept his eyes closed, looking dead for a moment before working his jaw slightly, the only movement to show life thus far. Eddie couldn't help but raise his right hand to stoke over Volt’s cheekbone, a habit he could never break. Volt moved very slightly towards the hand which Eddie responded by cupping Volt’s face. Volt’s lips curled in a satisfied way as he slowly opened his eyes in a tired low gaze. Eddie let out a sigh of relief he was holding and ran his thumb under Volt's pale eye.
"I'm sorry." It was all Eddie could say, all he felt he could say anyways.
"Why do you apologize?" Volt’s voice was tired and quiet, the recharging usually exhausting him. Eddie hummed, thinking of a way to explain it but nothing came to mind. Volt’s hand slowly made it to Eddie's wrist, rubbing circles with his thumb as he squeezed ever slightly.
"You made me this way, I am living now, yes? It may be painful but this is how it has to be." Eddie growled under his breath.
"I wish it wasn't." After staring at each other in a moment of silence, Eddie rose and moved his hands down to capture Volt's, offering his arms to help him up.
"Come on big guy." Eddie said with a playful tone as Volt reached to grab his arms properly.
With a one pull, Volt was upright with a playful smirk on his face, which Eddie couldn't help but return. Volt moved his hands up to Eddie's shoulder and gave them a few squeezes in lieu of a massage. Volt smiled slightly as Eddie moved his hands to Volt's waist, steadying him unnecessarily.
"You should rest." Eddie scanned Volt’s face as he could see the sleep building behind his creation's eyes.
"Rest with me?" Volt pleaded leaning down into Eddie's space. Eddie sighed, leaning up to reach the taller man leaving a small peck of a kiss on his lips.
"I have to work on the bar." Volt hummed, closing his eyes.
"You sure that you must?" Volt rested their foreheads together.
"Yes, I'm sure." Eddie ran his hands up and down Volt’s torso lightly in a soothing motion. Volt’s breathing was deep and long in the moment which they shared before he spoke again.
"Join me then before I wake?" Eddie huffed slightly as he gave in.
"Yeah okay, I'll only work on the essentials and then I will be right there next to you, live wire." Eddie couldn't help the smile as Volt smiled sweetly, a sprinkle of red on his cheeks. Eddie wasn't the best with nicknames or words for that matter so Volt grinned almost every time Eddie said a pet name. Eddie gave Volt’s waist one final squeeze before pushing him back slightly.
"Now bedtime, shoo, go" Volt swayed on his feet slightly but slowly stepped back out of the work room which Eddie followed and watched him walk across the living room to their shared bedroom. As the door closed he sighed, ready to get back to work but finish early because of his creation- no, his partner's request.
