"You show it to him." Raz rolled the arrowhead over in his hand, and held it up to the sunlight. It was smaller than both the ones he found at camp and the Motherlobe, pointier too, harsh ridges digging into the fat of his palm. He glanced down at the hole Dion had made pulling it out of the ground, at the nail marks in the soft earth, of the dirt that still stained his brother's fingers.
"You found it. If you want to show it to Dad, just do it yourself."
"I don't want to show Dad anything, what am I, ten?" Raz decided to ignore that comment, for the sake of civility. "Besides, he'll get all excited if you tell him it's one of those freaky mind rocks."
"It's that why you showed it to me?"
"…Yeah." Raz raised a sarcastic eyebrow.
"You knew it was psittainium? Didn't just figure that out a few seconds ago when I told you it was?"
"Well, I, I wasn't like certain! Not until you licked it." Dion scrunched up his nose at that, Raz just rolling his eyes. "But if it was I figured you guys could like. Go geek about it. Or whatever. Better than it just sitting in the ground, tripping me." Raz didn't see any scuffs or marks on his brother's clothes.
"I…are you sure you don't want it." He held it out once again, but Dion just pushed his hand down.
"Yeah." He turned to leave, but stopped, watching as his brother smoothed the dirt back into the hole where the arrowhead had been before heading off himself.
"You're certainly right about it being tiny!" Augustus twirled the little rock over and under his fingers, other hand drumming on the stands of the Aquatodome. "Am I supposed to be feeling something?"
"No, most of the arrowheads here are kinda sucked dry." Raz mumbled. He was only half paying attention.
"Hm, well it's still very pretty." The spotlights of the dome struck the arrowhead and sent waves of purples and pinks down both of their sides. "Where'd you find it?"
"Didn't. Dion did."
"Oh! He, he didn't want to show me?" Raz stayed quiet. Augustus caught the arrowhead mid-movement, holding it between his index and his middle. He laid his hand out flat on his thigh, and for a moment held Dion's gaze as he waited for his siblings to finish with his mother. He smiled, and didn't receive one back.
