Chapter Text
The night seemed joyful, it wasn’t everyday that the Dark Lord was felled, much less by a little boy. But even then it was a heavy night, an unexpected victory that came at a cost, a very heavy cost.
From the end of the, painfully regular, Privet Drive came a man strangely dressed. The man was Albus Dumbledore, he stopped before the first street lamp and raised his hand, and with one click from the strange device all the light from the street vanished one by one, as if blown out.
He neared a cat that seemed to stare at him intently, and as he passed it, the cat transformed into a woman.
“Albus please, these are the most horrendously muggle muggles I’ve ever seen”, the woman whispered hurriedly.
“I’m terribly sorry Minerva”, Dumbledore turned to Mierva McGonagall, with genuine pain in his eyes, “this is the only one, he will be safest here.”
McGonagall stared at him in disbelief, she couldn’t believe that, the, Albus Dumbledore had resigned himself to such a horrible solution.
“Surley Hogwarts is safer than”, she gestured around, “this magicless place.”
“This is his family Minerva, and besides I’ll have someone live nearby to watch over him”, Dumbledore smiled apologetically.
“No I refuse, Albus”, she steeled her gaze.
“Who will take care of him? You? Me?”Dumbledore questioned.
“Maybe. We could, Hogwarts is the best for a reason.”
McGonagall saw something like a twinkle in Dumbledore's eyes, as if starting to consider the idea. And just as he changed his mind, the roar of a motorcycle could be heard from a distance. It was Rubeus Hagrid, he’d come to deliver The Boy Who Lived.
“Rubeus, my boy there has been a change of plans”, Dumbledore started.
“We’ll take him. Make for Hogwarts we’ll meet you there”, Minerva added.
“Aye then”, Hagrid nodded, “I’ll be on me way then. Enjoy the stars while we can.”
And just as quickly as Hagrid landed on the regular Privet Drive he was gone, soaring through the skies. After a moment McGonagall turned away and slinked away in her cat form. Dumbledore stood there for a while more, looking at Number 4 Privet Drive, the home of Petunia Evans, now Dursley, and with a painful sigh he raised his hand, clicked the device, to return the lights, and he was gone.
Harry had a quiet upbringing, well as quiet as it could get at Hogwarts, raised by the professors, he quickly became adept in most types of magic, learning basic charms from Flitwick when he was 2, using a borrowed wand of course, brewing potions, rather unsuccessfully, with Snape, taking care of the grounds and fantastic beasts with Hagrid. McGonagall mostly let him loose in the castle, zipping around on his broom, this meant he grew up surrounded by magic, not only teachers but students, and Peeves. But in the summers, he stayed with his godfather’s cousins. They felt as if they should help the boy, or at least that's what they said. He stayed in June with the Malfoys, a rich pureblood family, where he grew close friends with Lucius and Narcissas’ daughters. In July he stayed with Ted and Andromeda Tonks, a more humble family, which he preferred over the Malfoys. He became friends with their daughters as well, one of which was attending Hogwarts at the moment.
And after 11 years of fun, he would finally start his journey at Hogwarts for real.
r him to officially attend Hogwarts as a student. For him to finally start his adventures.
