Work Text:
Dr. Robby had seen many medical students come and go in all his years working at The Pitt. He'd seen them all, the overconfident ones, the underconfident ones, those who struggled in emergency medicine, and those who thrived in it.
He was also very aware of the many different dynamics that blossomed between different types of coworkers. In particular, omegas were extremely rare in the medical field, and he knew that those who did break into the industry often faced a lot of abuse and harassment from their patients and coworkers alike. Many of those who made it in were often pushed into obgyn, likely not by choice but because many of the superiors in the hospitals saw omegas as only useful for one type of medical career.
So, when he laid his eyes on Dennis Whitaker, a fourth-year medical student starting his ER rotation at The Pitt, who happened to be an omega, he made a silent promise to himself to keep an eye on him. It was just to make sure that he was fitting in alright and wasn't being treated unfairly by others around him, that was all.
He couldn't quite help it if his hands wandered a little, gentle pats on Whitaker's arms, clasping him on the shoulder when they talked. The younger man was incredibly endearing in his own awkward, baby deer type of way. Plus, his touches weren't anything outright scandalous, many people were just more comfortable with physical touch.
He didn't do this with anyone else, though.
It was driving Whitaker insane, feeling that warm, firm hand near his nape every time Dr. Robby reached out to him. The touch was always so close to his scent glands, making him shiver at the near-intimate touch. The older alpha was essentially scent-marking him, leaving traces of his scent all over his skin, even if he wasn't aware of it.
While he very well could speak up and tell Dr. Robby off for it, he found himself a little hesitant to do so. It didn't help that he secretly liked it, the alpha's scent feeling like a warm, comforting blanket whenever he got close enough.
Hey, no harm, no foul, right? It didn't seem like Dr. Robby was doing it with malicious intent. Hell, it didn't even seem like he was particularly aware of what he was doing, or the implications it had since Whitaker was an omega.
It seemed like everyone else had started to take notice of it, though.
A cluster of medical students were hovering at the hub, typing out patient notes and looking for their next task. Dr. Robby approached at a swift pace, coffee in hand as he passed by.
"Whitaker. With me. Patient in South 3."
The omega startled as his name was called, glancing back before quickly taking off after the attending, leaving Santos and Javadi staring after them. Santos turned, making eye contact with Javadi before scoffing, a cheeky smile on her lips.
"Looks like Dr. Robby's got a favourite."
Javadi looked at her, and then back at where Whitaker and Robby had walked off to, confused, "Whitaker?"
Santos let out a chuckle, holding her hands out, "Yeah? Haven't you caught a whiff of him? He reeks of Dr. Robby."
"Well— maybe…" Javadi trailed off, opening and closing her mouth silently, trying to come up with another possible reason. She pursed her lips briefly before nodding slowly in concession, failing to come up with any other explanation.
Santos looked at her, nodding knowingly, "Yeah. Definitely the favourite."
🥼
A couple of days later, in the privacy of their home, Santos had decided to approach Whitaker as the man sat in the living room eating a packet of chips while some boring TV show played in the background. She sat down on the couch next to him with a huff, drawing the attention of the man.
"So, Huckleberry," She tilted her head curiously as she stared at him, "You liking it at The Pitt so far?"
"That nickname again—" Whitaker sighed, resigning himself to ignore it as he continued, "Uh, yeah. It's a lot, but yeah. Why?"
Santos pursed her lips, nodding slowly as a beat of silence passed between them, a brief debate being made in her mind before she decided to cut right to the chase, "Are you fucking Dr. Robby?"
Whitaker's eyes widened comically, choking on his chips as he sputtered out a response, "What? No! Absolutely not! How- how can you think that?"
Santos shrugged, reaching over to steal a chip from him, "You smell like him all the damn time at work. He always seems to have his hands on you."
"N-no! There's nothing going on between us."
She lowered her voice, "I won't report you if you tell me, just for the record. Unless it actually starts to fuck with the patients."
"Okay— there's really nothing." Whitaker insisted, "I'm not doing anything with Dr. Robby."
"You sure?"
"Yes!" Whitaker exclaimed, looking exasperated.
"Okay, fine. Fine." Santos backed off, raising her hands to avoid offence. Whitaker let out an indignant noise, drawing an amused smile from Santos.
While the alpha left it alone for the rest of that night, it was very obviously clear that she didn't quite believe his insistent denial.
🥼
While Whitaker was telling the truth that nothing was going on between him and Dr. Robby, it didn't mean that it wasn't starting to have… implications.
He had come to terms with the fact that he might have a little crush on his boss, but had firmly given up on the idea that it would ever go anywhere.
The frequent touches had his mind wandering when he wasn't bogged down with patients. He wondered if that brief, gentle touch would feel the same when Dr. Robby pushed his face into the mattress as he took him from behind, those same, skilled hands that healed numerous people every day pressing firmly into his hips and thighs as he was taken apart.
It was getting bad.
So much so that on occasion, he was finding himself slicking up in his pants at work. He had already earned a reputation for having to frequently change his scrubs from some new type of fluid being spilled on him, so he really didn't want to add any more counts to his list.
It was a growing problem that was starting to keep him up at night, in fear of being found out by one of his coworkers (or, god forbid, a patient). He knew they could smell Dr. Robby on him, which meant if he slicked up too much, they would definitely smell that too, and he already had too many embarrassing moments, thank you very much.
His saving grace came in the next few days when he was in the storage room looking for some extra bandages for a patient who had cut themselves open while trying to cook.
"Expired scent patches. Into the garbage they go." Perlah sighed as she rifled through a bin of them. It caught Whitaker's attention, looking over as the nurse moved the entire bin over to the side to throw away later.
"You're just tossing them all?"
She turned to meet his gaze, nodding, "Yep. We usually keep some just in case, but I guess it's a good thing no one's needed them recently. They're only expired by a couple days, but we still have to chuck them for patient safety."
"Well—" Whitaker eyed the bin intently, "I can help toss them. I'm heading out anyway."
"Yeah, sure. Thanks." Perlah sent him a smile before turning back around and resuming looking through their stock for some fresh ones. Whitaker let out a quiet breath before grabbing the bin and his patient's bandages before leaving the storage room.
He made his trip to the garbage bin, glancing around for a brief moment to make sure there was no one nearby before sneakily sliding as many patches as he could fit into his pocket without the bulge of the packets being overly obvious. Once he was done, he tossed the rest into the trash can, silently making a note to come back after he had emptied his pockets into his locker to see if he could grab any more.
It wasn't stealing if the hospital was already tossing them, right?
He fixed up his patient before going back to grab more scent patches. It was a shame he couldn't take all of them, but he didn't want to risk anything if someone questioned why all the expired patches had suddenly vanished.
Slipping into the bathroom, he let out a rough exhale before peeling one of the packets open, reading the instructions quietly to himself before slapping the patch over his scent glands near his nape. He was glad he still had his shirt unsoiled under his scrubs to hide as much of the patch as possible, but you could still see the edge of it peeking out if you looked hard enough.
He looked up at the ceiling, sending a quick prayer that the patches wouldn't give him any terrible adverse effects, before exiting the bathroom and continuing his work for the day.
If they were expired only by a few days, they should still be somewhat effective, right?
Whitaker soon found out, that while the patches did actually work in concealing his scent for the most part, there was also a good reason why Perlah had thrown them out after their expiry date.
After he had peeled the patch off at the end of his shift, he had found red rashes littering the skin of his shoulders and a bit of his upper back. He clenched his fists, rubbing his hand over his forehead and silently debating with himself on whether the rashes were mild enough to be worth continuing to wear the patch anyway.
He double checked the ingredients that night, making sure that nothing in there was something he was allergic to.
Nothing, which meant that the rashes were due to the expiration date.
Awesome.
Still, the patches did their job that day, and he hadn't slicked up for the rest of his shift. If it was just some minor rash, he could deal with it until he found a better solution (or got over this damn crush, but he knew it wouldn't be so easy). It also helped mute Dr. Robby's scent all over him, which was a big plus.
He decided to keep using the patches.
🥼
Everything came to a head one day when he was tasked to treat a patient, a 'Mr. Liam Hughes' who came in with a broken leg and some road rash after riding his bike into a tree root in the ground. He had gotten to work treating the man, who he could tell was an alpha, when partway through, his scent patch stopped working.
"What's that smell…" Mr. Hughes murmured quietly, brows furrowing together as he inhaled.
Whitaker looked at him questioningly, taking a sniff of the air but unable to smell anything much different.
"Smells like…" The man took another sniff before leaning forward to smell Whitaker, drawing a startled flinch from the omega.
"It's you. You're a fuckin' omega?"
Ah, shit.
He cleared his throat, splaying his hands out in a placating gesture, "Sir, it's nothing to worry about, I promise."
"I don't want a fuckin' omega treating me."
"I assure you, I've trained exactly the same as everyone else here—"
"Don't touch me! Get someone else! I don't want your hands on me, you'll only fuck it up even more!" Mr. Hughes was starting to yell now, causing Whitaker to back up as he tried to continue explaining that he really was no different than any of the other student doctors.
The door suddenly swung open, drawing both of their attentions as Dr. Robby stepped into the room, brow furrowed in concern.
"Hey, hey. What the hell's going on in here?"
"I don't want any omega treatin' me. What kind of hospital is this, to let some dumb fuck omegas work here? Don't try and convince me of anything. He's wearing those stupid patches to hide himself, clearly he knows too that omegas shouldn't be in here."
Whitaker could sense the growing tension in the room, Dr. Robby's eyes blazing with irritation. He took a small step forward, trying to open his mouth and explain that it was fine, he could switch out, only to freeze as Dr. Robby held up a hand to him.
"Sir, Whitaker here is just as capable as any other of my staff members. I wouldn't let him in here if he wasn't. You are in a hospital, so I suggest you fix your attitude and calm down. Whitaker, out." He said sternly, a gentle hand brushing over the small of Whitaker's back as he guided the omega out of the room.
"Santos! Switch out with Whitaker. Broken leg and road rash." Dr. Robby barked out, drawing the other alpha's attention. She looked over, nodding and rushing over into the room.
Dr. Robby let out a rough exhale, looking at Whitaker before patting his shoulder, the palm of his hand moving to press against his nape and scent glands as he led the omega over to a quiet room, away from prying eyes and ears. Whitaker felt that little tingle pleasantly make its way down his spine, all his senses suddenly zoning in on the feel of that large, warm hand pressing against his skin. The touch instantly soothed his jitters that sprouted when the patient had started yelling at him.
"Are you okay?" Dr. Robby asked once they had settled into the room.
Whitaker gave a half smile that didn't quite reach his eyes, "Yeah, used to it."
The alpha let out a disappointed sigh, "Take a break."
"Sir— I don't— I really don't need to—"
"What's up with the patches?"
That had Whitaker shutting up, mouth closing so fast his teeth clacked together.
"Is everything okay?" Robby continued, looking at the other man with concern. He didn't remember the omega wearing them before. Skimming over the patch on his neck, his eyes also spotted a slight red discolouration on the skin around it, "Are they giving you rashes?"
Whitaker hesitated. He couldn't just tell the truth that he was wearing the patches because Dr. Robby's touch turned him on way too much that he was slicking up his pants. He looked around the room for a long while before responding, "Uh, well. The patches just… make it easier to work. It keeps the patients from getting snappy when they find out I'm an omega, and they're not bothering me much, so…"
For some reason, Dr. Robby didn't believe him entirely, so he tried to prod a little further, "and the rashes? Did you forget to switch out your patch? Usually they're good for about 8-10 hours, hardly ever fail or cause a reaction like this. They shouldn't be giving you irritation."
Fuck, Dr. Robby was too smart for him to be lying like this.
There was a long, awkward stretch of silence between them before Whitaker let out a sigh, "Well, um… I've actually… been taking these expired patches from the hospital. Since they're expired, they give rashes, but they still do their job, mostly." He sucked in a breath as panic took over, his eyes widening as he continued, "but—! But I didn't think it counted as stealing if it was going in the hospital trash anyway, right? I didn't mean to steal—"
"Hey, hey." Dr. Robby tried to soothe, reaching out and placing his hands on Whitaker's shoulders, "It's fine, alright? You're fine. Not in trouble, but these rashes aren't good for your body. If you need anything next time, you come to me, you hear? I'll get you proper scent patches from now on."
"Oh, no— I couldn't— I can't afford them." Whitaker stammered out, shoulders sagging in embarrassment.
Dr. Robby shook his head, "You don't have to. I'll give them to you free of charge. Just… stop taking the expired ones. It's not good for your health." A lingering thought in the back of his mind was telling him that he was only offering this because he had a soft spot for the omega, but there wasn't time to dwell too much on it.
"Okay, um, yeah. That'd be good. Thank you, Dr. Robby."
"Don't mention it, kid. Now, I mean it. Take a break, drink something, then come back in a few."
Whitaker sent him a nod, and with that, Dr. Robby left the room and headed back to the hub to resume his work. There, Dana, the charge nurse, eyed him as he approached, looking him up and down.
"What happened back there?"
"Broken leg and road rash. Whitaker was treating him when the patient found out he was an omega. Went nuts, screaming about how he didn't want an omega touching him." He sighed, "I got Santos to swap in and then just made sure Whitaker wasn't shaken up about it."
"Uh huh," Dana nodded, looking back at her computer, "Lots of assholes everywhere. Too bad we've still got to treat them."
Robby let out a huff of a laugh, shaking his head in disbelief.
"What's the deal with you two, anyway?" Dana continued, turning her chair to face him properly.
"What?"
The woman let out a scoff, rolling her eyes, "Oh, come on, Robby. Everyone can smell you on the kid. Your favouritism is not subtle."
The alpha flushed with heat at the words, clearing his throat awkwardly, "Nothing. It's nothing. I'm just keeping a bit of an eye on Whitaker. You know how tough the discrimination and harassment gets out here for omegas."
Dana snorted, eyeing him with disbelief, "You need to get your act together. If not for your sake, for the sake of that kid's career. If HR gets a whiff of this, it's going to be a nightmare for all of us."
A rough sigh left Robby's mouth, "Yep, yeah. I know. I will."
"Good." Dana nodded, returning back to the computer in front of her, "Now get out of here. Got a ladder fall in North 2 with your name on it."
🥼
Robby, selfishly, did not quite stop.
He certainly toned down the touches he gave Whitaker, hoping that would reduce his scent on the omega enough for people to stop noticing it, but it was just a little too addicting to stop completely.
Plus, now that he was giving Whitaker proper, working scent patches, a few touches shouldn't hurt anybody, and Whitaker hadn't mentioned anything about them, so he figured the man didn't mind.
However, it was his mistake in forgetting that scent patches and heat suppressants were two very different things.
To his defence, it was very rare for brief touches like this to result in a heat.
He approached the hub after finishing up with a patient, spotting Whitaker with a sandwich in hand, about to sit down in front of his workstation. As the omega opened his mouth to eat, Robby reached out, placing his hand on the junction of the omega’s shoulder and neck, thumb brushing over his nape as he swivelled him around to face him.
"Ah, ah ah." He tutted, watching as those wide eyes stared back at him, "Food gets eaten in the staff lounge, remember? Don't need you crumbing up my work station again."
"Oh, yep. Yes, sir. Sorry." Whitaker said, that cute, awkward smile on his face as he stood up. Robby let him go with an amused look, sighing before sitting down at the desk.
Whitaker made his way to the staff lounge, cheeks flushed with heat at the feel of Dr. Robby's hand all over his nape again. Thankfully there was no one inside, so he let out a breath of relief as he sat down at the table, taking a big bite of his sandwich.
He rubbed at his face, trying to regain his bearings.
Damn Dr. Robby and his stupidly comforting scent, his big, warm hands, and his assertive but kind personality. Damn the fact that he was always touching Whitaker, leaving traces of his scent on the omega, like some sort of claim.
He tried to finish his sandwich as fast as he could, feeling that heat lingering throughout his body. He took the time to grab a water bottle and chug it down, hoping the water would dissipate the heat a little.
Fifteen minutes later, that inner heat was still there, making pinpricks of sweat appear on his forehead. He let out another sigh, wondering if he should just suck it up and head back out there.
As he was making his decision, the door to the staff lounge swung open, and he looked up to see Melissa walk in, pausing as they saw each other.
"Hey," He gave a half smile.
"Hey," She responded, looking at him inquisitively, "Is… everything okay?"
"Uh, yeah! Kind of hot in here though, isn't it?"
Mel paused, opening her mouth with no sound for a brief moment before replying, "Um, I'm feeling fine. You don't look so good."
What he hadn't quite realized was how his face was flushed red, sweat making his hair stick to his forehead and body hunched over the table.
"I'm okay." He tried to say, feeling another wave of heat wash over him. Mel furrowed her brows, stepping closer.
The scent hit her like a wall of bricks as soon as she got close enough, her eyes widening in realization.
"Oh, you smell like you're in heat."
"What?" Whitaker's eyes grew round in a panic. He couldn't be going into heat now! His cycle wasn't for another several months!
"Let's uh… let's get you to a more private, quiet room." She helped him up, and only then did he realize how wobbly his legs were getting, letting out a small gasp as his knees tried to buckle. Mel continued to support his weight as they went out to the halls, heading for a more secluded area of the emergency department.
"Woah, what's happening here?" The two of them looked to see Dr. Robby approaching, concern etched into his features, "You alright, Whitaker?"
"It seems like he's going into a flash heat. I'm bringing him to a quiet room." Mel explained, watching as Dr. Robby's eyebrows shot to his hairline.
Oh, fuck. This wasn't good.
"I'll take Whitaker to one of the heat rooms. It's a little outside the emergency department, but it'll be much better suited for him than one of the rooms here. Dr. King, you can help out in Central 3 in the meantime. I've got this."
There was a moment of hesitation as Mel glanced back down at Whitaker, who was hunched over and cradling his lower abdomen. Their gazes met, and the omega sent her a small 'thumbs up' to show he would be fine.
With that, Mel sent a nod to Dr. Robby, helping to hand him over to the alpha before taking off to the patient rooms.
As soon as Robby's hands were on him, Whitaker felt that shiver of arousal rush through his body, trying to stifle his gasp as his cock twitched in his pants.
None of this felt real.
"Shit, kid. You're burning up." Robby murmured quietly, letting Whitaker lean his weight on him. He walked him as fast as he could through the halls, glad that the path to the heat rooms was mostly empty of people, only littered with the occasional staff member who was too busy to pay attention what was going on between them.
"Come on, in here." Robby said, opening one of the heat rooms with his key card before guiding Whitaker in. The omega was panting by this point, beads of sweat rolling off his forehead. The door automatically locked behind them, so Robby wasn't too concerned over someone coming in. He set the omega down on the mattress, reaching into the mini fridge in the corner to give him a chilled water bottle.
"You're safe to ride out your heat in here. I'll make sure no one comes in." Robby said petting Whitaker's damp hair gently before moving to stand and leave. The omega desperately reached out, fisting his hands into the material of Robby's scrubs and stopping him in his tracks.
"Please, stay."
The weak, earnest tone to his voice had Robby's heart aching, looking down to see Whitaker burying his face into Robby's stomach, knuckles turning white with how hard he was gripping to the fabric of his scrubs.
He hesitated for a moment, because the smell of Whitaker's heat was getting stronger, starting to infiltrate his nostrils which was bordering on dangerous territory. If he stayed too long, he would also be affected by the heat scent, and there was no guarantee his will was strong enough to resist the alluring temptation of the omega.
"It wouldn't be right for me to stay. You've got everything you need in here. Food, water, toys, and alpha pheromones."
A shaky breath left Whitaker's mouth, and Robby couldn't resist carding his fingers through those sandy brown curls.
"This entire thing is your fault, anyway." Whitaker mumbled in a moment of desperation, "Touching me and— haah, scent-marking me so much. It's only right to take care of the problem you caused."
Robby froze as the words registered in his brain, a sense of realization and dread washing over him.
Oh, he was fucked.
If it really was his constant scent-marking and touching causing this flash heat (it was), then Whitaker would only be sated by his scent and knot. The artificial alpha pheromones in here wouldn't do shit. It meant this heat was a result of Whitaker's body realizing him as a potential mate, sending him into a heat to encourage their coupling.
Fuck.
Fuck!
"Please…" Whitaker breathed, voice coming out in a pitiful whimper.
"Okay, okay." Robby broke, giving in to both of their desires. God, he was going to get his ass reamed by everyone after this, "On one condition, I need you to look at me and tell me properly and coherently that you want this. That you understand what's going to happen."
At that, Whitaker lifted his head, those beautiful, glassy blue eyes meeting Robby's own, "Yes. Yeah. I know. I'm asking you to fuck me. Please."
That had the last thread of Robby's resolve snapping, and he pressed Whitaker onto his back, making quick work of both of their scrubs and tossing them onto the floor.
"Pretty little thing," Robby murmured to himself, watching the way Whitaker's eyelashes fluttered at the compliment. His gaze roved over the expanse of pale skin, packed with hidden, lean muscle from his time working on the farm. Yet, he was still so lithe and beautiful, and Robby wanted nothing more than to mark up the canvas on his skin with numerous bite marks of his own.
He turned Whitaker onto his front, hands grabbing that plush ass and spreading his cheeks apart. A soft whine came from the omega as his leaking hole was bared to the air of the room, shoulders tensing as his cock throbbed between his legs.
"Fuck," Robby swore, feeling breathless himself as he reached down to fist his dick in his hand. The scent of Whitaker's heat was full-blown by now, and it was causing a reaction in the alpha's body too. His heart rate was elevated, a rush of heat pooling in his gut as he stared at the feast laid out before him.
"Robby…" Whitaker whined again, turning his head to look back desperately when nothing further seemed to be happening.
"I know, I know baby. I'll give you what you need." Robby said quickly, rooting through the tray on the night stand and grabbing a knotting condom. He tore it open quickly, rolling it onto his cock without much issue before lining his tip up to the omega's sopping entrance.
Pregnancies could still occur from a flash heat, and the last thing they needed right now was a pregnant omega medical student carrying his boss's baby. That was a walking HR nightmare that would definitely end with both of them getting kicked out.
They both let out a groan as Robby slowly slid inside, Whitaker gasping and fisting the sheets tightly as he was filled. It took the alpha a moment to stop feeling dizzy from the warm, tight heat wrapping around his cock before he slowly began thrusting in and out, carefully watching Whitaker's reaction for any sign of pain.
"More. More, please. Please, sir." Whitaker gasped into the pillow below him, lifting his hips slightly to try and get Robby to slide in deeper. The alpha tightened his grip on Whitaker's hips, letting out a shudder exhale as he fulfilled the omega's request.
In any other instance, Whitaker would be absolutely mortified, knowing he was begging his boss to stuff him full of his cock, but right now the heat was invading his brain, letting that desperate, primal need to be filled take over.
Fuck, it was heaven. Robby stuffed him so full, pressing up just right against all of his nerves. His scent draped over him like a weighted blanket, soothing that aching, clawing need to be near the alpha.
Robby started to pick up the pace, the sounds of skin slapping together filling the room. One hand remained on Whitaker's hip, his other hand reaching forward to grab his nape, the same way he had been doing all these months.
That had a spark of arousal buzzing under Whitaker's skin, letting out a startled gasp as his head was pushed into the pillow in front of him. It made his eyes roll back, this scenario being nearly the exact one he fantasized about way too often.
"Like it?" Robby growled, eyes dark with lust as he continued thrusting, "Like being pushed around, being told what to do?"
"Yes, yes, yes. Feels good." Whitaker whimpered, clenching hard around the alpha's cock. That drew a groan from the older man, redoubling his efforts and slamming into that one spot inside him that made the omega see stars.
"Oh, fuck! Mnnh— Robby, Robby. Ah— ah—"
Robby couldn't resist digging his nails into Whitaker's skin, too turned on at the sweet little sounds spilling from the omega's lips.
With his hand still firmly pressing on Whitaker's nape, he leaned forward until he was pressed against the omega's back, moving down to nip and lick at the skin around his shoulders and neck. He relished in the way the omega shivered and shook underneath him, startled whimpers leaving his mouth when Robby let his teeth scrape dangerously over his mating gland.
It took all his control to pull back and leave the tempting gland alone, instead directing his efforts along Whitaker's upper back, biting and sucking red and purple marks all over.
"C'mon, baby. Let go for me." He whispered, reaching between Whitaker's legs to wrap a warm hand around his cock. At that, the omega jolted, crying out as his pleasure skyrocketed. A few more seconds was all it took before Whitaker's body tensed up, gasping and moaning as he spilled all over Robby's fist.
The alpha shivered at the way Whitaker's hole fluttered around him, continuing to fuck into him and drawing those sweet, pitiful moans from the man.
"Good boy, Dennis." He breathed, watching as the omega's cock twitched at the praise. A soft smile appeared on his lips, chuckling as he began to chase his own high.
"Please, Robby. Take it off. Want you inside." Whitaker gasped, skin feeling dewy with sweat.
"I'm already inside."
"No, the condom. Please, take it off."
"I can't—"
"Wanna feel you. Wanna feel it dripping out, please."
"Fuckkk." Robby groaned, a deep, guttural noise that had Whitaker trembling with such an intense need.
"You're gonna be the death of me." Robby exhaled roughly, digging his fingernails into Whitaker's hips.
"Please?"
Another swear left Robby's lips as he pulled out, ripping the condom off before gathering some slick and jerking himself off. There was no way he could deny this kid anything if he asked so sweetly, in that meek voice with those sad looking eyes. He squeezed his hand around his cock, feeling the base already start to swell with his knot.
Whitaker whined underneath him at the loss of sensation, turning his head to watch what Robby was doing.
The alpha moaned, low and quiet as his knot finally inflated, ropes of cum shooting out from his tip and splattering all over Whitaker's back. Pleasure overtook his body as his dick pulsed hotly, and once he finally came down from his high, chest heaving for breath, he nearly passed out at the sight of Whitaker's back all marked up with his cum.
He was never getting this image out of his head.
His hands reached out of their own accord, spreading his cum all over Whitaker's skin, getting his scent deep in there.
A small smile appeared on the omega's lips as he slowly turned over to face Robby, those blue eyes staring at him tiredly.
He was so fucking gone for this man, actually. It was a little concerning to think about.
He knew he was crossing another line by doing this, but he couldn't resist as he leaned forward, pressing a hot, filthy kiss to Whitaker's lips.
That seemed to be a common theme for him when Whitaker was concerned. Something about him just shredded Robby's resolve. Couldn't deny himself anything when it came to the omega.
Arms came up to wrap around his neck, and Robby groaned in satisfaction as Whitaker eagerly returned the kiss, leaving their lips swollen and spit-slicked.
"I still want you inside."
"Fuck," Robby's heart jumped at the wave of heat that crashed over him, pulling back to meet Whitaker's gaze, "Not safe to do that without a condom, you know that."
"Please, Robby. Need it."
Damn this fucking kid with this stupid, sad, beautiful, absolutely adorable blue eyes.
"I'm going to get fired." He sighed, readjusting himself before lining his cock up once more to Whitaker's entrance, still soaked with slick. Whitaker just sent him a tired but self-satisfied smile, and Robby's heart ached with fondness.
The slide in this time was even smoother than before, and Robby had to stop himself, buried halfway into Whitaker's hole, in order not to bust right then and there. Jesus, the heat and wetness without the barrier of the condom was heaven.
Oh, God. This time, seeing Whitaker face to face was all the more lethal. He was able to drink in each minute change in expression, to see exactly what made him tick. The way his back arched at a particular thrust, eyelids fluttering, mouth parted slightly, was all driving Robby up the fucking wall.
"Fuck, baby. Can't get enough of you." Robby growled, grabbing Whitaker's thighs and hiking them up over his shoulders. The omega let out a gasp, throwing his head back as the new position only allowed Robby to drive in deeper.
Soft 'ah— ah— ah—'s left Whitaker's mouth, nails scrabbling at Robby's arms as each thrust sent him a little closer to the edge. Robby let out a low growl at the sight of Whitaker's pale neck all exposed like this, deciding to turn his head and sink his teeth into the meat of the man's thigh instead.
A sharp gasp left Whitaker's mouth, transitioning into a soft moan as Robby continued to suckle a hickey into his inner thigh, just a few inches above his knee. Eventually, he pulled back, mouth slick with spit as his gaze caught the omega's cock, flushed red and lying against his abdomen.
"One more, come on." Robby murmured, hand playing with Whitaker's neglected cock, wrapping around it and starting to jerk it off in quick, efficient strokes.
Whitaker shivered as he felt his impending orgasm approach, breath coming out in rough pants as his pleasure built and built until it finally crested over, body strung taut as slick poured from his hole, cock shooting out a thin, clear liquid.
Robby hissed at the feeling, not stopping his ministrations until Whitaker's noises turned high-pitched and desperate, hands scrabbling at his own to give the omega's poor cock a break.
He did so, feeling the air leave his lungs at the way Whitaker's body sagged as the energy left him, his stomach covered in his spend.
He did his best not to cum inside, really, but he failed miserably, unable to bring himself to pull out of that enticing, warm heat before his knot expanded.
"Fuck," He swore as he tried to pull out, only to be stopped by Whitaker's rim clamping down around his knot. He tried one more time, stopping as soon as the omega let out a whine in distress. He couldn't pull out without risking a tear at this point.
With a strained groan, he shoved his hips flush against Whitaker's ass, head hanging low as he emptied his load into the man below.
He was so, so fucked now.
The gentle vibrations of Whitaker's purr brought him out of his possible spiral, instantly soothing the worst of his nerves. While it helped a lot, Robby knew he messed up. This was his medical student, for God's sake. With a sigh, he made a mental note to get some 'morning-after' pills for Whitaker as soon as he could.
The omega was feeling clingy, tugging the alpha down to bury his face in the crook of his neck. Those purrs never stopped or slowed, the sound filling the air in the otherwise quiet room.
They lay there together for several long minutes, Whitaker looking like he was starting to drift off to sleep. Robby carded his fingers through the man's curls, watching over him as that comforting warmth bloomed in his chest.
🥼
As soon as his knot went down enough for him to slip out, Robby pulled out, quietly shushing Whitaker as the action drew a soft noise of protest. A few gentle pats on his head and the omega went back to sleep, his body naturally trying to reach out and find the warmth of the alpha.
Robby made his way to the corner of the room, picking up his discarded sweater that he had been previously wearing over his scrubs, and draped the item over Whitaker's body, watching with a smile as the man instantly pressed his nose into it, breathing in the scent.
With that, Robby went to wash up a little, leaving a note on the bed side table with instructions on what to do if things went really wrong before redressing himself in his scrubs and standing at the door to the heat room.
He rubbed his hand over his face, letting out a long sigh before muttering to himself, "Time to face the music."
The metal handle felt shockingly cold to his heated palms, and he heard every single click of the lock as he turned it, casting one more brief glance to where Whitaker was still peacefully sleeping on the bed before exiting the room.
The difference felt like night and day as soon as he stepped out of the dimly lit heat room into the bright, fluorescent lights of the hospital hallways. The volume instantly doubled, and Robby did his best to quickly make his way back to the hub where he was sure he had about thirty people looking for him.
Dana instantly noticed him as he approached, her scowl lessening a tad as he stepped closer.
"Hey Robby, where have you bee–" She froze as soon as he stepped close enough, the scent lingering on Robby's body telling her everything she needed to know. Her eyes widened before her features schooled into a stern expression.
"Michael."
He winced at the use of his first name. This was bad.
"Yeah," he sighed, rubbing at his eyes in a pitiful attempt to avoid meeting her stone cold gaze, "He's in the heat room right now."
An exasperated breath left Dana, pinching the bridge of her nose, "Oh, for fuck's sake, Robby. What did I tell you?"
"I know, I know." He sighed for what had to be the 100th time that day, "It was my fault that the flash heat even happened. Whitaker consented, I made sure of it. It was just to ease the symptoms a bit, because those false pheromones in there wouldn't do shit." He paused, looking exhausted, "Could you do me a favour and get someone to make sure Dennis gets home safe after his symptoms die down a little? I think… I should stay away from him for a bit."
Dana let out a 'tsk' of disapproval, crossing her arms over her chest as she shook her head, "Yeah. Yeah, I will. For the kid."
"Great, thank you. Oh, and uh…" He cleared his throat, not quite meeting her gaze, "Some morning after pills for him, please."
"Robby!"
"I know. Just— please."
"Fine. I'll make sure he gets those." Dana shot him a withering glare long enough to make him feel uncomfortably guilty before reaching into a drawer and slapping a fresh scent patch onto the counter in front of him, "and put this on before you stink up the whole place."
He tilted his head in acknowledgement, grabbing the patch, "Yes, ma'am."
🥼
Thankfully, the flash heat didn't last too long, and with Robby helping him to satiate the desperate need he felt, the heat only lasted several hours. Whitaker was able to make do with the toys in the room and the scent of Robby lingering on his sweater. Eventually, he was cleared and able to head home around 11 pm, feeling exhausted and worn down, wrapped in Robby's sweater.
As he tiredly opened the front door to his and Santos's place, he was surprised to be greeted with the alpha at the door, her curious stare morphing into one of concern as soon as she took in his appearance.
"Damn, Whitaker. You okay?" She asked, taking his bag and placing it on the ground.
"Yeah, uh… yeah." He sighed, feeling like his eye bags were ten times their usual size tonight, "Just…" He let out another sigh, not finding the words.
She nodded in understanding, grabbing his bag again and helping him bring it to his room.
"I'll make you a hot chocolate. Go take a shower."
"Thanks." He whispered as she disappeared. Jesus, he must really look terrible if Santos didn't even try to tease him about his predicament. He couldn't find it in him to change yet, tugging Robby's sweater tight over his shoulders as he sat on the edge of his bed. After a few moments to collect himself, he left the sweater on his bed before making his way to the bathroom, flicking on the light and glancing in the mirror.
Yeah, he looked like shit.
Deep eye bags sat heavy under his eyes, his hair looking greasy from all the sweat. His skin was paler than usual, shoulders sagging in disappointment. His eyes completed the picture, only adding to his miserable, pitiful appearance.
The hot shower made him feel better, but it didn't quite heal the hollow feeling in his chest from being left alone by Robby after that first round.
He found himself sitting on his bed, bundled in blankets (and Robby's sweater) sipping on the cup of hot chocolate that Santos made for him while he reflected on the day.
To be honest, it hurt that Dr. Robby had just… disappeared after that. Didn't check in on him later, had someone else make sure he got home properly.
It made him wonder if that meant the alpha regretted it.
In any case, wallowing in his pity wouldn't do him any good right now. He felt like shit emotionally, physically, and mentally. His body still needed to sleep and recover from the sudden onset of his heat.
Well, at least the hot chocolate was good. That was a plus.
Once he finished his beverage, he managed to fall asleep as his body sank into the mattress, burying his nose into the fading scent of Robby's sweater.

The next day, Robby clocked in for his shift, giving the team a briefing before sending everyone on their way. He noticed very quickly that Whitaker hadn't been among them, and as soon as the residents and med students had dissipated, he approached Dana quietly, who gave him a warning look.
"Hey, Dana. Where's Whitaker?"
"Cuttin' right to the chase, are you?" She snorted, shaking her head in amusement, "I told him to take the next couple of days off. Figured he could use 'em."
"Ah, right." Robby nodded, holding his coffee in hand, "It uh… It would have been nice if I was notified."
"Yeah it would, wouldn't it?" She said sarcastically, turning to meet his gaze sternly, "but I dunno. Can I trust you with the kid?"
At that, Robby let out a sigh, holding his hands out in surrender, "Look, I know I fucked up massively there. I don't deny it." He sent her a nod, "and thank you for getting him everything he needed afterwards. I promise I'm not going to let anything get that far ever again, not even close to it."
She still looked a tad skeptical, so he quickly continued, "I'm going to pull back from Whitaker a bit. It's probably best that the both of us stay away from each other for a while. Could you do me another big favour, and not tell HR about this?"
Dana let out a laugh, glancing back up at the patient board for a brief moment, "For Whitaker's sake, I won't. That kid's going to make one hell of a doctor when he gets up there, and I don't think something as stupid as your mistake should fuck him over."
Robby let out a wince at her words, but nodded in agreement, "Thank you. Really. Lunch is on me, yeah?"
"It better be."

When Whitaker returned to the emergency department, it was a morning filled with nervous energy and apprehension. Santos was by his side, punching him in the arm and giving him the helpful encouragement in her own mean, round-about way of speech, saying that he was stronger than he looked, and he would get back into things just fine.
As he stood in the circle during briefing that morning, it didn't go unnoticed to him that Dr. Robby didn't seem to pay much attention to him. No check in, no 'how are you feeling?' The man barely even looked at him.
In fact, as the day went on, it really seemed like Dr. Robby was doing his utmost to ignore him, excusing himself quickly when he realized Whitaker was in the same room, never asking him any questions or quizzing him on what diagnosis should be made.
And certainly none of those shoulder touches.
It made his heart hurt a little bit, because yeah, it sucked when your boss was outright ignoring you after a predicament that was almost entirely on him. He thought Robby had liked him, in some way at least, but his actions right now made Whitaker doubt his thoughts.
He was sitting in the staff lounge sipping on a juice box when Santos entered, their gazes meeting before the alpha stepped closer, taking a seat across from him.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, fine. Why?"
"Come on, Huckleberry." She sighed, "Everyone can see something's going on between you and Dr. Robby. He almost looks like he's scared of you. What happened?"
Whitaker pressed his lips together, staring at the grain of the wooden table for a long moment.
"Is it about… that night?"
"Yes it is," Whitaker muttered, "but I don't want to talk about it, okay?"
"Maybe you two should talk about it."
"I don't think he wants to talk to me."
"Did you try?"
At that, Whitaker paused, his mouth open to retort, but no words came out. He let out a long exhale, his palm dropping down to the table, "No."
"There you go. Talk to him so his weird mood doesn't spill over onto the rest of us." Santos sent him a grin, patting him roughly on his back, "I've gotta go. All the best, Huckleberry."
Whitaker sat in the staff lounge staring off into space for another couple of minutes, a growing pit of dread in his stomach.
Eventually, he managed to work up the nerve to corner Dr. Robby at the hub where he was typing out notes into a patient's chart. He sidled up to the man, trying not to think about how much he liked him with his glasses on.
"Hey, Dr. Robby," He said awkwardly, drawing a brief glance from the man, "Could… could we have a word?"
There was a long pause of silence, until Whitaker thought he really was about to get outright ignored, before Robby let out a rough sigh, taking off his glasses and putting them in his pocket.
"Yeah, we should talk. Come."
Robby led him into one of the empty rooms, shutting the door behind them and locking it. Whitaker looked at him nervously, unsure where to start.
Before he could say anything, however, Robby rubbed at his face and spoke first.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I was the reason your heat was triggered in the first place. None of this should ever have happened."
A pang of hurt washed over Whitaker's heart, unable to do anything but listen as Robby continued speaking.
"I never realized I was being so touchy with you, and certainly not enough to send you into a flash heat. I just…" He shook his head in disappointment, "I just felt a bit protective, you know? You're the only omega here in the ER department right now. I just wanted to look out and make sure you didn't face any more trouble than you needed to."
While it wasn't a lie, it wasn't quite the whole truth. However, Robby didn't quite want to admit that this entire thing had been caused by his affection toward the younger man that had spiraled out of control.
At that, Whitaker's brows furrowed in annoyance and dismay. He had thought Robby was being touchy previously because he liked him, not whatever bullshit this was. The words only sparked a flare of anger in his veins, mouth downturned as he realized that apparently, Robby was just like every other conceited alpha who thought omegas were weaker than them. He did this because, what? He thought Whitaker was a pitiful little omega who couldn't handle himself?
"You didn't need to be looking out for me." He responded in a huff, "I worked just as hard to get here as anyone else. I did my undergrad, I scored on the MCAT, went through three years of med school already and did several rotations. I got here fair and square. I don't want any sort of special treatment just because I'm an omega."
Robby looked at him guiltily as he continued, "and I'm well acquainted with all the shit that people spew, thinking that omegas don't belong here. I've— I've been spat at by patients, I've been side-eyed by my coworkers, and I've had supervisors try and keep me in obgyn. I know how to handle all this, and I don't require you trying to butt in like a know-it-all just because you're some fucking alpha who thinks I need help."
At the end of his outburst, Whitaker quieted down, his heart aching in his chest as he fought not to let his voice waver, "Thought you did it all because you liked me."
Those last words made Robby jolt, shock rushing through the system. He reached out before quickly pulling back at Whitaker's withering stare.
"I do. I do like you, Dennis. A lot more than someone in my position should. I promise I don't think you're less capable than anyone else because you're an omega. I guess in my haste to make sure others would treat you fairly, I've been a little unfair myself." He sighed, shoving his hands into his scrub pockets and giving a tight-lipped smile, "I made a lot of bad choices recently, and I'm sorry."
Whitaker looked at the floor, giving a small nod but not saying anything further.
The two of them stood in silence for a long while, only faintly hearing the bustle of the emergency department outside.
Finally, Robby moved to scratch the back of his neck, clearing his throat quietly, "Did you— Were you interested in getting heat suppressants for the future? I can get some for you, if you wanted."
An awkward, half-laugh left Whitaker's mouth, "Ah, no. I couldn't. I'd owe you too much at that point."
Robby quickly shook his head, "If anything, I owe you right now for being the cause of that entire fuck up. Please, if you want them, I'll get 'em for you. No cost."
Whitaker gave a small, sad smile, but nodded, "Uh, yeah. Then, please. That'd be… nice. Thank you."
"Of course." Robby nodded, clearing his throat, "I'm glad we talked."
"Yeah, me too."
"We're good?"
"We're good." Whitaker glanced out at the doors, "Let's get back out there."
🥼
At the end of the shift, Whitaker stood at his lockers, grabbing his bag and getting ready to head to the parking lot where he knew Santos was waiting for him. After his little talk with Robby, he hadn't gotten much time to properly process his emotions, having been thrown into the chaotic whirlwind of the emergency department. Now that things were slowing down, his duties taken over by the night shift coming in, he idly wondered where things would go next.
To hear Robby liked him had been a relief, knowing he hadn't been reading in too hard on the older man's actions. He was ready to head home and ponder more about the situation, only to be stopped by Robby hovering nervously nearby.
"Whitaker, could you stay behind a moment? I wanted a quick word."
He paused at that, glancing around briefly to see that everyone had essentially left already, just the two of them standing in the small hallway.
"Yeah. What's up?"
Robby looked down at him, at those beautiful eyes and his curious, earnest expression, and steeled himself before he spoke.
"Well, about earlier… when I said I liked you, did you understand that I meant it… more than just platonically?"
Whitaker gave him a nod, his heart rate picking up a little in his chest.
"I hope that knowledge didn't pressure you into accepting any of my actions that you didn't want." He pressed his lips together, hands shoved in his pockets, "It really wasn't my intention to use my position as your boss to force you into accepting any of my touches or scent-marking. I wouldn't ever do that on purpose—"
"You're fine, Dr. Robby." Whitaker said, that little lopsided smile on his lips, "I didn't mind them. Quite liked them, actually. Really."
Robby's mouth opened in surprise, eyebrows raising as his heart thudded in his chest, "You liked them? Do you… return my feelings? In that way?"
Whitaker nodded again, giving a soft smile as he looked up at the alpha. In the back of his mind, he wondered if this was where they were going to kiss, now that both of their feelings had been aired out and were clearly reciprocated.
Instead, however, Robby took a small step back, inhaling deeply.
"Well, we can't be together right now, considering the entire mess we've already caused with our feelings," Robby cleared his throat, "and I don't want to risk your career. I'm not the only one who's confident you'll make an excellent doctor, Dennis. I'm more than happy to write you a stellar recommendation whenever you need it. Not because of my feelings, but because you really have shown a lot of potential."
A flush started to spread out across Whitaker's cheeks, and the man had to duck his head to avoid making eye contact as warmth bloomed in his chest.
"We'll just maintain a professional distance for now. If you want, I'll see if Kiara from social services can get you on a program that provides free contraceptives and scent patches, but until then, I'll keep getting them for you."
Whitaker gripped his bag a little tighter, nodding slowly.
"and I know this is a long shot," Robby continued, "but after you finish your rotation at The Pitt, if you still want anything to do with me outside of work," He held out a small strip of paper that he pressed into Whitaker's palm, "Please contact me, and we can pick up where we left off, with proper intentions this time."
Whitaker slowly uncurled the strip of paper in his hands, eyes scanning over the numbers written in a hasty scrawl. He couldn't stop the grin from forming on his lips, looking up at Robby and meeting his gaze, "That sounds like a solid plan. Um… and thanks, Dr. Robby. For everything. Even if it got a little messy."
Robby chuckled fondly, the corners of his eyes crinkling.
"I uh," Dennis cleared his throat, cheeks tinged pink, "I don't regret it, you know. Spending my heat with you."
That made Robby feel a little light-headed, a rush of arousal flooding his body and leaking through his scent. Clearly, the other man could pick up on it, the smell making Whitaker grin, a coy look on his face.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Dr. Robby." Whitaker chuckled, waving as he turned to leave, knowing Santos was likely getting impatient waiting for him so they could go home.
Robby watched as he made his way down the hallway towards the doors, unable to keep the fond smile off his face, "I'll see you tomorrow, Dennis."
🥼
The next several months of Whitaker's ER rotation were chaotic and busy, but uneventful in the relationship department. Robby kept his word, maintaining a respectful distance from him, although he couldn't deny that sometimes their gazes would meet and they would share little secret smiles.
His touches along his nape and scent glands had moved to friendly ones on his arm, and had been toned down quite a bit.
It didn't stop Santos from teasing him relentlessly about it, though. She didn't know all the details about what had happened between them, but it was clear she knew that there had been something, and that the two of them still had some lingering feelings.
Today, he was finishing up his last shift at The Pitt, all the other medical students buzzing with a level of excitement he hadn't seen before.
"Alright, everyone. Listen up." Robby spoke, having gathered everyone for a debrief as their shift ended, "Good work today. As many of you know, today is the last day that our medical students will be here for their rotation. It's been a pleasure working with you and teaching you, and I'm sure you'll do well in wherever you decide to go next."
His gaze met Whitaker's for a brief moment, the corners of his eyes crinkling as he gave the younger man that endearing smile.
"You're all dismissed for the day. Go home, get some rest. It's a new day tomorrow."
As everyone dispersed, Whitaker made his way to his locker, reaching in to grab his notebook and take out the little piece of wrinkled paper he had kept in there all those months. Honestly, he had looked at it so often that he was sure he knew Robby's number by heart, but seeing the man's messy scrawl on the page brought him this spark of joy that he couldn't shake off.
"Huckleberry, are you coming?" Santos called out, standing near the end of the hall.
"Uh, you go on ahead! I'm just clearing some things up first. Don't wait for me!"
"See you at home, loser. Get back safe."
He chuckled as Santos left through the double doors, looking down at the paper in hand once more. Slowly, he punched in the number into his phone, holding his breath as the line began to ring.
"Hello."
"Hey, Dr. Robby." He grinned, "It's Dennis."
There was a beat of silence before he heard the breathy laugh of disbelief from the other man.
"Couldn't even wait for me to leave the building?"
"Thought I'd make things more efficient," He couldn't keep the smile off his face as he rocked on his feet, "I got accepted for a residency at a different department, but I'll still be here at this hospital. I uh… I know this is a long shot, but if you still want anything to do with me…"
"Oh, you're funny, kid." He heard a chuckle on the other side of the line, "but yeah, that'd be… That'd be great. Um… dinner? On me."
"Tonight?"
"Right now? Sure." There was clearly amusement in Robby's voice, making his heart swell with affection.
"Great! I'll meet you at the parking lot?"
"Sure. You good with motorcycles?"
"Never ridden one before."
"First time for everything. I'll take you to one of my favourite restaurants, about five blocks from here."
His heart leapt in excitement, squeezing the notebook he held tight to his chest, "Sounds like a date, then."
There was a low rumble on the other side of the line, almost like a chuffing noise,"Sounds like a date, Dennis."
