Chapter Text
EXT. JUNGLE CLEARING - DAY
A TRICERATOPS is placidly grazing, highlighted by a sunbeam through the jungle canopy. Beyond it, a bush on the edge of the clearing rustles.
CLOSEUP ON RUSTLING LEAVES
Leaves part to reveal the faces of two crouched men. CROWLEY wears small dark specs, a handlebar mustache, and a black cowboy hat. AZIRAPHALE wears a tartan handkerchief jauntily tied at the neck and a white hat.
CROWLEY
(whisper, excited awe, western American accent)
Whoo-ee. You ever seen anything like that in all your days?AZIRAPHALE
(whisper, anxious, western American accent)
Not on God's green Earth. Since when did lizards grow bigger than a longhorn steer?CROWLEY
Aw, come on, Angel. Ain't nuthin' to be afeared of. I bet that thing bucks like a sun of a gun.AZIRAPHALE
Bucks?! Don't tell me you're supposin' to ride it!
Crowley removes hat and hands it to Aziraphale. He starts to move forward out of the cover of the leaves.
CROWLEY
Get out that fancy pocket watch of yours and time me, pardner. I'm aimin' for the full eight seconds.AZIRAPHALE
What?! Get back here, you darned fool!
Crowley creeps forward into the clearing, staying low. The wind shifts. The triceratops pauses and lifts its head, obviously smelling something new. Crowley's grin widens. He breaks into a sprint towards the triceratops, whooping with delight.
AZIRAPHALE
(eyes scrunched shut in fear, lets out a loud:)
One! ...
CUT TO:
A FOREST IN THE BRITISH COUNTRYSIDE - DAY
It's a beautiful day. Cheerful bird sounds. Four school age children (three boys and a girl) sit on the ground in a circle around a board game. A small dog snuffles around the base of a treehouse fort behind them.
PEPPER
This is a stupid game. The dinosaurs were all dead by the time cowboys were around. I bet old timey people didn't even know what dinosaurs were!BRIAN
(said around bites of a candy bar)
I think it would be fun to ride a triceratops. You could hold onto the horns.WENSLYDALE
Actually, the term "dinosaur" was first used in the 1840's, and they became really popular after that. So, cowboys probably knew about them from books and newspapers and stuff.
The fourth child picks up a pair of dice. The other three stop talking and look to him.
ADAM
We found this game, which makes it ours. That means we get to make up the rules. If we want cowboys to ride dinosaurs, then that's what they'll do.
Adam tosses the dice onto the board. He picks up a game piece to move it. The forest falls quiet. The distant sound of drums begin to echo through the trees. The children don't notice, but the dog lifts his head and lets out a little whine.
