Chapter Text
Tracking down his younger cousin had been easier said than done, and even worse since he lived full-time in another galaxy. But he had finally been successful, except there was a very sexy and very dangerous-looking brunette blocking his way.
"Why are you looking for B?" It should've been an innocent question, but somehow this woman made it sound vaguely menacing despite speaking in a low, measured voice. A lifetime in the military and years in the Pegasus Galaxy had taught him to respect and not underestimate women. Particularly if they were short and moved with purpose, something this woman definitely did.
"She's my cousin. I've been looking for her for a few years, and found out last time I was Stateside that my Aunt, her mother, died a few years back, but it has taken me a while to get an address for Buffy."
Suspicious brown eyes scrutinized him. "She has never mentioned a male cousin."
He shrugged a little uncomfortably. "We lost contact back in the '90s, around the time her parents divorced. She was a teenager going through a rough time, and I was busy with my own stuff."
"What do you do for a living, and where do you live since you've implied you're not in the US?"
"I'm a pilot in the Air Force. The location of my base is classified, sorry."
The woman, who had not given her name, spent a few minutes trying to ply more information out of him, but failed.
"The Queen B isn't here right now; she's out of town on business. Wanna talk to Little D instead?"
His brows furrowed. "Who?"
Those observant eyes narrowed. "Dawn. B's little sister." She said it slowly, pronouncing each word pointedly. He stared back in confusion.
"Buffy is an only child. Unless Aunt Joyce and Uncle Hank adopted a child after I lost contact with them, there's no sister."
When they were younger, Buffy had gone back and forth between loving being the center of her parents' attention and whining about how she wished she had a sibling like most of her friends. There was no way he could've missed there being another cousin in LA.
"Maybe you hit your head, or you're lying about being B's cousin. Either way, you need to leave."
"I'll leave, but," and he pulled out an old receipt from his pocket and a pen, before he quickly wrote his name and email address on it. "Could you at least give this to her? She can make up her own mind if she wants to contact me or not. I'll be in the States for another five days."
She agreed, but didn't look happy about it. He said his goodbyes and left. There was no reason to stay if his cousin wasn't there, but this lady had given him something to think about. Who was Dawn?
