Chapter 1: hair of hearth (daisy/skrimm)

Chapter Text

The first thing that had caught Skrimm's eye when first meeting Daisy was her hair.

When she had cracked open the door of that strange homestead in the woods, her auburn hair glinted red in the light— firey, but not enough to burn. It was warm and soft, like the hearth in which he sat in front of that night. It was lighter than her sister's, falling neatly down her shoulder and laying at her breast in a day old braid. Her hazel eyes matched the warm tones, and reminded Skrimm of gingerbread.

He had really begun to notice her hair when they were in Ogreton.

The evening following counting the ogres' hogs, they finished showering and retired to the bedroom where Daisy had pulled out a brush from the drawer of a side-table. She dried off her hair, wringing it out with both hands, before sliding the bristles through the copper strands. She had sat on the ground, in front of a mirror that was rested against the wall.

Skrimm pulled on his robes, glancing at her briefly.

The process was quick, and hastily done— it was apparent that she could care less to brush her hair.

When she was done, she began to stand.

"Woah, wait. Aren't you gonna braid your hair?" Skrimm asked. The question had slipped from his lips before he could think twice, and had stopped her in her tracks.

Daisy frowned a bit, before shaking her head. She spread her hands, and signed, "I don't know how. My sister was always the one to braid my hair for me."

The statement sent a wave of shock through Skrimm.

"Seriously? You don't know how? She never taught you?"

Daisy shrugged.

"Well, I— I can braid your hair for ya. I mean— I'm not very good, heh…" His words were sheepish, and his face grew warm.

Her own eyes widened. "You would do that for me?"

"Of course!" I would do anything for you.

Skrimm led her back to the mirror, sitting her down. He stood behind her, and took the brush, before beginning to comb it out. It was soft and warm, and smelled of gardenia.

He parted it in three sections, before beginning to braid. His hands shook, and he had to start over a bunch, but it was not long before he finished braiding the long auburn locks, and tied it off with a ribbon. He admired his handiwork for a moment, before looking at Daisy in the mirror. She gazed back.

"Don't give me that look! I did a good job!" Skrimm said.

She smirked. "It feels loose," she signed.

"Well, I didn't wanna pull your hair. You're welcome."

"Thank you."

She took the braid and moved it to the front, gazing at it. Her hazel eyes softened, and she glanced at Skrimm once more. There was a genuine gratitude in the look now. If he were to die now, he would die a happy goblin. She shakily signed again,

"Thank you."

Chapter 2: warmth (gideon/frost)

Summary:

Frosty and Gid take a nap (100 words!)

Chapter Text

Frost padded silently over to the sleeping genasi, and took a seat next to him. His tail tapped silently against the earth while he gazed over Gideon, a soft, content chuff escaping his throat at the sight.

His sound, however, caused the other to stir, and look over. "Whaddya want, Frosty?" Gideon mumbled, sleepily. "Somethin' wrong?"

"No, no. Pretend I am not here."

"It's kinda creepy watchin' people sleep, yanno." Gideon grinned.

"Mm. Well, I… would like to nap too."

Gideon hummed. He shifted over, making room for the tabaxi. Frost placed himself against him, and they drifted to sleep.
