Chapter Text
After a tearful goodbye to your old friends and family, you and your parents get on a plane to Britain.
The first days are the worst. Unlike the beautiful autumn days of Americas south, it’s raining like god was weeping. “We’ll just have to get used to it.” Mom says, moving another (luckily dry) box from the small garage. “This is our new home,
y/n. You should stop moping about and finish unpacking and go out and explore town.” Dad said, dragging an old army knife down the tape and lugging out the box of cutlery.
You sigh and push yourself off the kitchen counter. “It’s still pouring cats and dogs out there. There’s nothing to do.” You groan, looking out the window and at the new neighborhood you live in. Your dad makes some quip about being able to clean and you groan again and go up to your room.
If there was any consolation for moving across the world, it was that you did get a better bedroom now. It was plain, sure, but there was room to grow. Placing another heavy box on your bed, you open it and start putting your mismatched belonging away. It’s slow and boring but at least you don’t have to hear your parents complain about your attitude while doing in.
Looking down into the box you almost miss the “hey-Hey!” Muffled through the window. Looking up, there’s a boy sticking his upper half out of his window. Sliding the box to the side, you get on the bed and open the window. “Hi.” You say, not matching his excitement. “You’re the new people that moved in right?” He asks. You look down at the boxes he can clearly see and look back up at him. “A-ah. Right then.” He says, clearing his throat. “I’m John. John Lennon.” John introduces, nodding at you.
“I’m Y/n.” You say, still a bit weirded out by his choice of introduction. “Lovely name.” He says. “Weathers a bit shit for a welcome but welcome.” He nods. “I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of each other. I don’t doubt Mimi will be dragging me over for a ‘proper introduction’.” He says, rolling his eyes.
“Mimi?”
“Me aunt. Old bat. Not very pleasant. Overall: bitch.” He groans.
You wanna ask where his parents are but decide against it. That might be too far for strangers. “I’ll keep that in mind if I see her.” You say, sitting back and grabbing the window to close. “Wait!” John says. And for some reason you do.
“Some friends and I are playing a show together at the garden fete later this week. You interested in coming with?”
“I don’t know what a fete is.” Damn America.
“Oh my- are you coming or what?”
You think for a moment. This strange boy you met leaning halfway out your window is inviting you to a place you’ve never been before.
“Sure. I’ll be there.”
