Chapter Text
The elevator doors closed with a groan as Daisy entered, she was late again. Superman had been fighting a monster and destroyed most of the subway station she typically uses to get to work. Daisy couldn’t be too angry at the guy though, she had great admiration towards the man and what he stands for. The brunette was snapped out of her thoughts as the elevator pinged her arrival to the correct floor. She gripped a brown pastry bag tighter in her hands as she exited, briefly surveying the room for a glimpse of the tall blue eyed man that she usually brings a pastry for.
She finds him slightly slouched over his desk, glasses askew as he focuses on the papers in front of him. A warm feeling fills Daisy’s chest as she looks at him, a small smile creeping onto her face. The brunette makes her way over to the man, her heart beating faster the closer she gets. Almost as if he could sense her, Clark looks up at the exact moment she reaches his desk with a matching smile on his own face.
“Good morning Clark I stopped by that bakery you love and got your favorite.” Daisy shuffles her feet, suddenly feeling shy even though she does this for him a couple times a week.
Clark’s face slowly turns a deep shade of red as Daisy talks before he reaches for a cup on his own desk and holds it out for the photographer. “What a coincidence I went to your favorite cafe this morning and got your usual.” There's a slight crack in the man’s voice as he speaks.
Warmth crept up Daisy’s neck and settled on her face, the brunette felt as if she could melt into a puddle. “Thanks Clark.” the photographer mutters softly and takes the cup from Clark’s hand, their fingers slightly brushing over each other. Daisy sets the pastry bag down on Clark’s desk before quickly shuffling away to her own desk.
Daisy hadn't been at The Daily Planet long, only a couple months now but the second the Gothamite met Clark Kent she knew she was done for. If it wasn't his boyish charm or dimples that did it for her it was his unwavering kindness to everyone in the office. The way he took the time to remember everyone's coffee orders and taking extra care to remember that Daisy prefers tea over coffee. He always managed to get her order just right without even trying. Clark had been one of the first to welcome Daisy to the Daily Planet followed shortly by Lois Lane and her fellow photographer Jimmy Olsen. Both of which quickly caught onto the brunette’s crush on the office’s resident golden retriever. The two are constantly trying to convince Daisy to ask the guy out, which she shuts down every time.
Daisy makes it back to her desk where a smirking Jimmy is waiting for her, a soft groan leaves the woman as she prepares herself for what she knows is coming next. “Good morning Jimmy.” Daisy sighs as she sits down, setting her things out on her desk.
“Oh I’m sure it is, I saw that sickeningly sweet display between you and Smallville over there.” Jimmy teases a wide grin on his freckled face. The brunette groans and lays her head on her arms causing Jimmy to laugh.
“You’re down so bad Gotham girl.” Jimmy jokes before turning to his own computer screen leaving Daisy to collect herself slightly before turning to her own work.
Jimmy and Daisy had bonded quickly over being the only two photographers in the office, frequently sharing tips and tricks with each other. Daisy is slowly beginning to make a name for herself in Metropolis with the photos she’s gotten of Superman in action. Perry has complimented the brunette’s photos on multiple occasions and actually paired the photos she’s taken with funnily enough Clark Kent’s articles more than once.
Daisy quickly got to work on her most recent project, time seemed to fly by as she worked and was only snapped out of it when Clark stopped by her desk to tell her it was time for lunch. The two typically ate their lunches together, which prompted more teasing from Lois and Jimmy. Daisy reached under her desk to grab her lunch bag before she stood up and followed the man to the stairwell where they normally ate.
The two sat on the top step and unpacked their lunches, Daisy picking the tomato off her sandwich and handing it to Clark who happily takes it and hands Daisy the pickles off of his own. The two sat in a comfortable silence as they ate, one of them would occasionally say something that made the other laugh before they went back to eating. Clark finishes his food before Daisy and takes the time to observe her, his eyes trailing over her soaking in her presence. The brunette feels the weight of his stare on her and turns towards him, “Do I have something on my face ?”
Clark snaps out of his trance and frantically shakes his head, a red flush once again crawling up his neck. “No no you look great, I mean- not that you’re not pretty or anything- because you are, pretty I mean.” Clark coughs before quickly looking down at his lap.
Daisy feels flutter deep within her chest as she looks at Clark, barely even able to form the words she says. “Well thanks, you’re not too bad yourself Smallville.” This causes the flush on Clark’s face to deepen as he lets out a soft squeak before standing up and offering Daisy his hand, which she quickly takes.
Clark helps the brunette stand up before swiping invisible dust off of his button up. “Well I guess we should probably get back in there huh.” Clark mutters his hand clutching Daisy’s own. The photographer’s heart feels like it's going to burst as she replies with “Yeah we should.”
The two turn and make their way back to the office, still holding hands right up until they reach the door where they both notice and quickly pull apart frantically avoiding eye contact. Daisy squeaks out a “See you later Clark.” before booking it back to her desk and sinking down in her seat.
Jimmy takes notice of his coworkers' flustered appearance but decides not to comment on it but instead to shoot Clark a knowing look before returning to his work. The rest of the day goes by fast and before she knows it the day is over. Daisy packs up her things and begins to head for the door turning her head to Clark’s desk where she sees that he is in fact not packing up to head home but instead continuing to work. Frowning Daisy walks over to the blue eyed man’s desk, her heels clicking against the linoleum floor. “Burning the midnight oil Clark ?” Daisy asks softly, startling the journalist.
“Oh hi Daisy, sorry I was really focused on this report.” Clark chuckles, his dimples making an appearance as he smiles. “Yeah this report is due tomorrow and if it's late Perry will run me through the ringer.”
Daisy nods in understanding, shifting her bag higher up on her shoulder. “Okay but don’t stay too late make sure you get plenty of sleep.” The brunette replies softly. She lightly touches Clark’s hand before turning and walking to the elevator. She presses the button to the ground floor and as the doors shut she catches one last glimpse of Clark, a soft smile on her face.
It doesn't take long for Daisy to make it home, her apartment complex only about a 20 minute walk from the office. When she opens the door she is met with the sight of her cat Millie fast asleep in her cat tree. She barely manages to take her shoes off before her phone starts ringing, Daisy doesn't even need to look at the caller id to see who it is she just answers and says,
“Oh hey Bruce.”
