Spamtenna - Chapter Swap AU

Summary:

Small shifts can make large differences. For instance: what if Susie had stayed over after Chapter 1, and the TV World fountain was created then? What if the Cyber World dark fountain was created as usual on day 2, only to have slightly different consequences?

What if Tenna was an abandoned secret boss, and what if Spamton was a major NPC in Cyber City who worked for Queen?

Notes:

Okay so I don't have anything written yet since this idea catapulted itself at me while I was working on something else today. I'm posting this and bribing with rushed art so y'all can HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE. I have bad habits of taking roleswap AUs and going WAY too deep into them.

You're GETTING a story, I promise! I work a full time job and I at least want to get what I was originally writing developed further! You WILL get some scenes of these two being cute I PROMISE.

(also 90% of the reason I'm sharing this instead of waiting is because I like how the Spamton design came out xD)

Chapter 1: The Blurb

Chapter Text

In order to understand the context of this AU, there are some things that need to be addressed.

Spamton was allowed to flourish as the email guy in a world where the Benefactor never phoned. He set up Big Shot Autos and created a successful business in his prime. Ultimately, this was passed on to others so he could focus on expanding his brother's goal of the 'Grand Boutique'. Together, they founded the Addison Mall, an indoor shopping area in the centre of Cyber City where customers can look for many things under the one roof. As the owner, Spamton's key skill is helping the different stores create newsletters and helpful emails to inform customers of useful things, such as sales and changed opening hours.

As for Tenna, he drew the short straw. While Asriel and Kris were playing in the living room, they bumped into the TV and toppled it over. It didn't break, but the visuals were not perfect and the top of the TV's shell cracked in such a way that it could be opened, leaving it an electrical hazard. It was decided to purchase a new TV. Tenna was taken outside and placed at the back of the house. Asgore's intention was to try and work on it in his downtime to try and fix it, but it never happened. Tenna sat alone, outside, for several years. A bird managed to get inside his head and create a nest. This helped to shift his appearance in the Dark World to be a combination of a TV and a wooden cuckoo clock.

This is not a story about divorce. This is a story about grief. Tenna had lamented how he was on a timer, but his 'death' was unexpected and sudden. No one had a chance to say goodbye in the TV Studio, let alone a lovestruck Addison in Cyber City. Tenna's lack of presence haunts the two Deltarune chapters.

There is still conflict in the TV Studio, but it is not quite the same as before. The new TV is aware he is not under any time limit. He is a newer model. Why would he be scared of being thrown out? Instead, the conflict can be seen in how the former host's presence haunts the Dark World. There are posters with a different TV, crew who give a different name when talking about things, and an emptiness that probably should not be there.

And when Tenna is found? He acts like a ghost, wishing he could return to the past and relive the better days.

When he is defeated through the pacifist route, he comes to accept that the past is gone forever, and asks whether the team will let him help them achieve their desired future. He turns into the Frayed Bowtie: a bowtie with a black centre, a red base, and yellow tips. This version of the bow boosts defense, but also increases grazing slightly.

Spamton, at first, can be found in Addison Mall. He looks to the future, always trying to figure out how to make things better. But when he is given a chance to think about the past, he's melancholic. He tries not to think too much about it. He lost a part of himself that he'll never get back. Whatever it is, it's hard for him to talk about.

He reappears later, assisting Queen in the Mansion by creating screens to block off certain areas. He essentially is a 'mini boss', but works through puzzle challenges rather than actually fighting. ("Whoa, whoa! I'm a businessman! Fighting isn't my thing!", he shouts while diving out of the way of a Rude Buster when Susie finally loses her patience).

But it's only at the very end, just before Kris and Susie can go to seal the fountain, that Spamton approaches again with a question that had been on his mind: where did they get the bowtie from? He summons Angel again (who wears the bow by default), explaining how this used to be a key part of his Big Shot brand. He used to sell replicas as merch. He had even gifted one to someone important because they liked the choice of colours - "He used to joke how I picked it to match his outfit".

Thankfully, he remembers that he's interrupting them from something important and steps out of the way.

But if he works for the Queen, does that make him a lord who works with screens?
