And though I burn, how could I fall

Summary:

“Tell me what to do.” Omi was holding his face softly while speaking.

“I can’t fold them back” He said as if it was enough explanation for Sakusa to understand and help.

“Atsumu, love, I know you are in pain, or something like that, but if you can speak I need a little context here. I’m fucking lost.” The mix of the pet name with the firm tone and swear word made Atsumu visibly swallow, bobbing his Adam’s apple hard.

----------
Or: the sakuatsu wingfic you didn't know you needed.

Notes:

Hi! I noticed this fandom lacked a wingfic so I had to amend it myself :b

CW: the only thing I can think about its a minimal description of Atsumu angel-like wounds on his back. I don't think it's anything explicit enough to be triggering but saying this just in case!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Its like everything was normal, but also not, so Sakusa was worried.

See, the entire MSBY team had an unspoken routine, perks of knowing each other’s for years. They all know Kiyoomi cleans the bench at the locker rooms before sitting, they all know Bokuto takes showers hot enough to melt a normal human, they all know that Hinata wears mismatched socks on game days because of “good luck”.
And they also know that Atsumu has bad allergies.

It’s almost the same every march: with the start of spring, Atsumu always has to take two or three days off practice because his allergies. A shame, considering the season it’s not over yet, but well, three days is not a lot of time, Kiyoomi though.
That was until this march, when Atsumu was missing a whole week and counting. So, yes, Sakusa was worried indeed.

It’s not as if Miya disappeared: he, always active on the group chat, sent updates about “feelin’ like shit” and similar eloquent quotes, and the rest of the team wished him a speedy recovery. Everyone but Sakusa, who knew his (best friend? Boyfriend? Situationship? Talking stage? Whatever eight months of fucking while being close friends is called?) Atsumu well enough to know something was off.

After practice Kiyoomi decided to go directly to Atsumu’s apartment, a twenty minutes drive (or fourteen, if you were Miya, who loved speed and didn’t care about himself as much as he cared for others).
The porter knew him well enough to let him enter the building and get into the elevator. Call it intuition or caring, doesn’t matter, but Kiyoomi was sure he needed to check on him. He decided to knock the door. 34A, third floor.
After no response, he knocked again, louder.

“Atsumu.” Silence. “It’s Sakusa … I know you are sick I just wanted to che-‘

“Omi, go awayy.” He could tell Miya was pouting by the way he dragging the vocals. The voice was coming from far away in the apartment, maybe his room? Bathroom?

At the lack the response from Kiyoomi, and knowing how determined he was always, Atsumu spoke again, knowing Sakusa was there still:

“Omi, I’m fine I just have a flu!. Which mind you… it’s actually very contagious and it can be deadly! Ya know… germs and stuff?”

Atsumu it’s a lot of things, at least in Kiyoomi’s eyes: annoying, obnoxiously hot, caring, loud, sensitive, fervently loyal, clumsy, ambitious, and of course, an awful liar. Perks of knowing each other well, is knowing all of this.

“Tsumu, I’m not going to die because of a flu. Also I have my mask on, open the door.” Sakusa spoke loudly so Atsumu could hear him, but also calmly.

Other advantage of understanding each other well is knowing that Atsumu leaves always a copy of his keys under the entry mat. A cute little rug with a fox drawing and a “welcome” written.

“Omi, please leave.”

Sakusa studied the implications of grabbing that key and entering the apartment even when Atsumu told him to go away. His brain has a special feature, you see, specially made to torture him: every time he is against a choice that implies another person, he picks an option and somehow he can always see in red, like in a video game, how he made the wrong choice, and it will have it’s consequences. This happened with almost everyone, except with Atsumu. Different they are, they know each other well enough so Omi lived without the red “Wrong!” sign in his brain when they were together.

“Fuck it.” Kiyoomi mumbled. He grabbed the key, and opened the door.

Atsumu was an organized man: son of a single mother, and with a twin, he had to learn how to clean and cook by himself. So the surprise was big when Kiyoomi entered and he saw a mess: it was like a hurricane took place in this exact living room. Aside from how disastrous everything was, Sakusa half kneeled on the floor to grab what looked like… a feather? A white feather specifically, like, from a bird. The living room was covered in them.

“Atsumu where are y-“ Kiyoomi started to speak as he walked, fast, to where the feathers grew abundant: the bathroom. He couldn’t finish the phrase he was saying, because the image before him knocked off all the words he had on his tongue.

Before him, on the bathroom floor, lied a mess of feathers, wings, muscles and golden hair. Between the feathers, it look like Atsumu was writhing, as his arms and hands desperately tried to grab his wings growing from his back. An uncomfortable position that made the blond man squirm.

Kiyoomi body moved by reflex, giving himself no time to think about what he was doing.
In a second, he grabbed and pulled away what looked like a white wing covered in feathers, just to uncover a kneeling Atsumu, and dropped involuntarily on the floor to catch the man’s face in his hands. The eyes Kiyoomi was wearing should have been enough to tell the gentle terror he was feeling at the moment.

“Heyyy, I told you not to-“ Atsumu couldn’t finish what he was saying, panting hard, harshly breathing, lowering his head and holding himself with his hands on his thighs. He was speaking softly though, like he was too exhausted to be angry.
It took some seconds for Kiyoomi’s brain to rewire itself, and find the words he wanted to say.

“Love, let me help.” As soon as said, Atsumu raised his head, and they locked eyes.

He was even messier than the apartment. Blushing that took place from his neck to ears like it was from a fever, dilated pupils, tears holding in his long lashes, puffy lips from biting, and an agitated chest from fast breathing.

Beautiful.

“Does it hurt?” Kiyoomi broke the silence speaking again, trying to not panic. Yes, his not-boyfriend was an angel or whatever but that wasn’t a reason to overreact and make Atsumu think he was disgusted, because there wasn’t anything as far from what he was really feeling right know. Worried, but amazed.

Atsumu took some seconds to focus his eyes and understand what was being said to him. Furrowed eyebrows, looking dizzy, like he wasn’t completely here.

“Y-yes- I mean, no, but yes.” He was pleading with his eyes, looking slightly up to meet Kiyoomi’s gaze.

“Its the spring, okay? This… this mess always happens during spring, it usually lasts a few days, three at max, because I can fold them back and forget about it till next year. But I can’t do that right now because they are…. I don’t know, matted, I guess. And I can’t reach them to groom it properly so-“ Atsumu was starting to speak and breathe faster, a mix of desperation, embarrassment and… something else Kiyoomi wasn’t sure about yet.

“So, you need a hand grooming them? I can do that I think-“ before he could continue, Atsumu interrupted him:

“No! I mean” he seemed exasperated, rubbing his eyes and face with the palm of his hands. “They are very sensitive. I am.” He was looking up at Omi again.

“Okay, I get it but I can be gentle and don’t hurt you. I’m good with my hands.” At this last phrase Atsumu’s blush intensified.

“God Omi, you are as dense as a wall- I mean I get horny, that kind of sensitivity”

Oh.

Sakusa brain shortcut briefly, for the second time today. What a record.
After a brief silence, he spoke:

“Well, lucky you I was the one to come check on you, right?” He couldn’t stop a little smile. “Tell me where you want me, I’m doing whatever you need.”

Atsumu looked like he was going to die right there, and blinked twice before opening his mouth. “Behind my back.”

Sakusa got on his feet immediately, circling around Atsumu to sit on his knees, right behind his back. He stopped himself from losing his thought-train admiring the way Atsumu’s muscles flexed in desperation, embarrassment… and what know Omi recognized as horniness.
He got closer so Atsumu could feel the heat emanating from his own body, almost touching each other, waiting for instructions.

“Okay” Atsumu sighted. “If ya look at the edges of the wings ya can see how they are supposed to look. I could groom those parts myself, but the middle, right between my shoulder blades… I can’t reach them there.” A pause. “Its where the most sensitive parts are too.” He couldn’t blush any harder.

“Tell me if you want me to stop.”

As soon as Kiyoomi buried one hand in the right wing, he felt the shuddering and hissing from Atsumu. He sat closer, driving his mouth to the blond’s ear.
“Is this okay?”

“Omi- don’t tease” He wore a frown, head down, eyes shut, lips bitten. Truly and angelic sight.

Sakusa took that as a “yes” and got to work. He started “untangling” the feathers and brushing them down to make them look tidy. Between caresses and light touches, Kiyoomi could hear a whole repertory: breaths, whimpers, hisses, sobs, and straight up moans grew from Atsumu’s throat.

Kiyoomi didn’t know how much time it’s been since he started, but as he was finishing, he saw the opportunity and took it: Atsumu was out of himself, even more than when Omi found him.

With time, he ended up with his head resting on Kiyoomi’s right shoulder, leaving his nick exposed, eyes closed against the artificial bathroom lights.
Sakusa got closer and started kissing his neck, without leaving his hand from where it rested, deep into Atsumu’s wings.

“It’s almost done.” A kiss behind his ear.

“Relax.” Another one, lower.

“You are doing so well, Atsumu.” A third, where his neck meet his collarbone. As he continued the grooming.

Atsumu couldn’t take it anymore. “Om- Omi.” He wasn’t calling, Sakusa realized. He was begging.

Kiyoomi hummed in a questioning tone, to encourage him to continue. “I need you to touch lower, more in the middle-“ Atsumu stopped talking with a loud moan, following a whisper of something like “fuck”. Too tired or relaxed to even use his hand to cover his mouth, as Sakusa touched him where he needed the most.

Got the spot, it seems.

It was a while ago since Sakusa finished untangling the feathers, wings now looking bright and beautiful, so all of this was to spoil the man before him. Well deserved, after the time he has been in this bathroom.

Without stoping the touching on his wings, Kiyoomi lowered a hand into Atsumu’s boxers, to touch him there too. He used his fingers to spread his lips, and introduced, one, two digits.

“Omi, don’t stop” Atsumu made the effort to open his eyes to look directly at Kiyoomi, head still resting on the shoulder, eyes still looking up to him.

Now Kiyoomi was the one feeling like dying: Atsumu’s tears rolled down his checks, lips opened as an invitation. He thought he may be in love. Naturally, he kissed him, hard, without stopping neither of his hands.

Atsumu picked the pace fast, kissing him back more fervently than ever, ignoring the uncomfortable angle. He was that needy. Sakusa didn’t stop his hand from touching up and down all the places where the wings met the skin, while fingering him still, as Tsumu grew louder and louder. Kiyoomi didn’t miss the way his name sounded in the man’s lips, how his tongue rolled and his lips met everytime he pronounced de “m" in “Omi”.

With a final shake and a sob, Atsumu remembered how to use his mouth: “Omi, Omi please stop.” He tried to separate himself from the man behind him, the mere heat of his body being too much, but failed miserably and had to use his hands to catch himself from going straight-faced to the floor, without any of Kiyoomi’s hands to catch him.

Sakusa took some seconds to admire the extension of his back, the wings , the agitated breathes and the sound of his crying, before grabbing him from the hips to pull Atsumu’s back to his chest, holding his face with one hand, the other still on his thigh. Kiyoomi wasn’t sure if it was the same as a regular orgasm, because it looked more intense. But he didn’t want to break the mood asking the million things he was wondering, so since he supposed Atsumu got a climax similar from what he’s used to, he carried on with what their usual routine would be after sex.

“Atsumu, how do feel?” He looked at him as if he was confused, while trying to focus his eyes and find any coherent words to say.

“Tired, a little dizzy, but good.” And Kiyoomi got out a breath he didn’t know was holding.

“Okay. I think you should rest a little though. Can you stand up by yourself? As much I as would love to, I don’t think I could carry you with your wings out.” He said as he moved his hands up and down Atsumu’s thighs, a comforting gesture Omi knew he loved.
Kiyoomi tried to ignore the wetness he could feel down Atsumu’s legs, using all his willpower to maintain his concentration.

“Yeah it sounds nice but, uhm, I should close my wings back before I move. I don’t fit in my bed or couch with them like this.” Atsumu turned his face to meet him, eyes to eyes.

“Well then, Imma stand up now okay, love?” He got up after Atsumu nodded. “You can do it yourself I assume? Do you need any more help?”

“I can do it but,“ he sounded hesitant, “please leave?"

“What? Why would I-“

“The wings can look pretty but the… process isn’t very nice, so I would prefer if you just…”

“Atsumu, I don’t care about nice.” The blond man looked up to him from where he kneeled, and swallowed. Then nodded.

He was right though, the process wasn’t nice.
The wings started retracting into themselves, as if being slowly vacuumed by two vertical fissures in Atsumu’s back. It looked like a wound, like it was supposed to bleed, but it didn’t. If anything, that made the whole scene stranger. As they got inside, a couple of feathers fell from the wings, resting in the floor, until no evidence was left. Everything back to normal.

Kiyoomi held back all the questions he had, and went to help Atsumu get on his feet, and walk to the couch in the living room.
He left him on the couch, and went to get a glass of water for Atsumu, before sitting back on his side so they could cuddle.

They say like this in silence a while, until Atsumu spoke.

“Omi, I can hear you overthink from over here, ya know that right?” He was himself again, hugging Kiyoomi from the side, head resting on the shoulder, again. “You have questions it’s okay, I guess I own you some explanations since ya… helped me.”

“Can you bring them back?” Omi was looking at his eyes.

“What?”

“The wings, can you bring them back? Or they are gone until next year?” This was so important for Kiyoomi, for some reason.

“I can take them out any time I want, I usually don’t though. I don’t like them. That’s why I got in trouble this time.” Atsumu sighted. “If I got them out time to time, they wouldn’t have tangled this bad… is just that-“

“They are beautiful, why wouldn’t you wear them?” In Kiyoomi brain, this was a common sense statement, a matter of fact. But by how bad Atsumu blushed, he realized he said something important. “Just so you know, I’m full of questions still, but I’m glad the wings are permanent.” He side-smiled, and crossed his legs.

“Why would ya care?“ Atsumu coincidentally looked down at Kiyoomi as he crossed his legs, noticing the obvious tent in his pants. “Omi-“ he stopped talking because the laughter was too loud. “Sorry Omi I wasn’t aware ya were a ‘the wings stay during sex’ type of guy. At least invite me to a coffee fir-“

Atsumu was interrupted by Kiyoomi kissing him, softly but commanding, while holding his face in his hand, mirroring his gestures from back in the bathroom.
When the stopped kissing, Atsumu drove his hand to Kiyoomi’s hair, as if to caress him, but actually he took a white feather that got stuck into one of his black curls.

“Ya got this in your hair.” Whispered while looking at his own lap.

Sakusa grabbed him by the cheeks with one hand , to make Atsumu look at him, pouting. “I’m buying you the whole coffee shop if that gives me a chance of having an angel-boyfriend again.” He spoke before even thinking and-

Kiyoomi didn’t miss the way Atsumu’s eyes sparkled at the word “boyfriend”.

Yeah, he could definitely get used to this.
