Work Text:

Kit is a rebel, a cool girl, a daredevil who fears nothing…

Except for being honest about her feelings.

No one has ever really accepted Kit for who she is. When she was open as a child and played with the other girls, they started to avoid her for "playing wrong" and being "weird" and "strange."

Kit didn't understand why this was. But it all made sense when she heard the phrase "bad influence" be uttered from her classmate's mouth after Kit asked why she was the only one not invited to their birthday party.

Fine. She's the bad one? She's inherently less than the others?

Then fine. She doesn't need them either. Just like Mortimer didn’t need her when he still went to her school.

It seemed that everywhere she went, or rather, everywhere she was, she didn't exactly fit in. Her mom would chide her constantly, unendingly. There was just always something wrong with Kit. And… what she was doing! Of course!

'But who cares about that?' Kit thinks from time to time. I mean really, why does it matter when she's better than all these other people? Who else threw the most pranks in their freshman year of high school? No one in the entire school’s history until Kit, of course! Who else is the leading force of a punk rock band? Or who learned how to ride a motorcycle all on her own? Or, or to hijack all the school buses of her district just to pull a daredevil stunt over them in the school parking lot?

No one but Kit.

And Kit didn't need anyone but herself, as if her shitty ass boyfriend from senior year didn't prove that enough.

First, he would pull away, always with that stupid ass disgruntled look whenever she snuggled up with him on the couch after sex.

Then, he would wave off her requests to go to the carnival together, or to the arcade, the movies… really, to ask to go on any date.

And then, finally, he agreed to go as her prom date and to take her there!!!

Only for his car to not show up at Kit's house. But maybe he didn't remember her address…

So she walked. All the way there. Got there two hours after the prom started. And yet, he still wasn't anywhere to be found.

Kit couldn't believe her eyes when, looking up from her fruit-punch-filled cup, she saw him, finally!

…But with another girl. Chelsea.

Kit got the message. She was too much. She was too much, again, like always, and suffocated and pushed him away. She's stupid when it comes to love.

In fact, she's just stupid in general!

Kit hates it. Everything the other girls have that she doesn't. She hates the skinny figures of so many fellow toon women out there, the seductive demeanors they can put on at the drop of a hat, the way makeup fits their faces, the ease of femininity, the ease of it all.

It wasn't fair.

Kit isn't the same as them. And at this point? She can't do anything to change it.

So she bites the inside of her cheek instead of letting a mushy comment slip out of her mouth. She clenches her hands when she feels the pathetic urge to hold another's hand. She hides the way her locket is a locket, referring to it instead as simply a necklace.

If she can't be stupid, then no one else will ever know the entire, stupid bitch she really is.
