Chapter Text
This is not how he expected his day to go.
Percy was relaxing on a deserted beach when his dad popped up.
Poseidon had been making an effort to be a better father. Percy was mostly happy about this, but a small bitter part of him screamed that it was much too late for Poseidon to try being a father to him.
Anyways, Percy had been yapping about his sweet baby sister Estelle when Zeus had shown up, shot him a dirty look, and then turned to Poseidon and started yelling.
"I told you to keep your distance from the boy!"
"He's not just a boy; he's my son!"
"You can't visit him this much."
"I've visited him a perfectly reasonable number of times. 'You're not even supposed to be here; the beach is my turf.'"
"Do not defy me, Poseidon."
Percy did not want to be caught in an argument between Poseidon and Zeus.
Nothing good happened when those two fought. The stolen lightning bolt situation was enough proof of that.
The two brothers had moved past arguing about Percy and were now arguing and raging about things that sounded very personal.
The waves were becoming rougher and higher; the sky darkened and thunder rumbled.
They were going to cause an absolute disaster if they weren't stopped.
"Dad, you have to stop. Look at what's happening to the sea." Percy said.
"I will not yield to my brother." Poseidon spoke.
This only angered Zeus further.
Their argument became more intense, and so did the sea and the sky.
The waves were getting bigger, rain was now pouring heavily, and lightning cracked across the sky.
"Dad, you guys need to stop. "Look at what's going on," Percy yelled.
Both gods ignored him, and the sky and the sea raged on.
He feared that his dad might end up causing a tsunami.
Those two were going to end up hurting mortals if they weren't stopped.
Percy groaned and stepped in between them.
A very dangerous thing to do, but Percy was desperate.
"Perseus, get out of the way now," Poseidon boomed.
"No, Dad, you guys are going to get people killed if you don't stop."
Zeus roared.
A streak of lightning hit the ground extremely close to Percy.
Poseidon pushed Percy out of the way and summoned his trident.
He positioned his arm to throw it at Zeus, but before he could, Zeus directed a bolt of lightning towards it.
Things got weird after that.
The lightning bounced off the trident and then proceeded to bounce around high in the air.
He didn't know lightning could do that.
Zeus and Poseidon didn't know that either, judging by the look on their faces.
Percy opened his mouth to comment on this but was stunned into silence when he saw that the lightning had stopped bouncing around and was instead heading straight down in his direction.
It was moving incredibly fast, and he knew he couldn't outrun it. He held Riptide up, hoping to deflect it.
Things got even weirder after the lightning hit his blade.
Percy felt like he was suffocating; the world around him was spinning.
What was happening?
The last thing he saw before he blacked out was his father's horrified face.

"What have you two done?" Hestia whispered, looking at the boy sprawled across the floor of the Olympus throne room.
