The seer of wisdom

Summary:

Babs doesn't have a vision, despite going through a lot of shit in her life. Is she the odd one out or is her time not here yet?

Written for BW 365 - 18.09 "Format"
And for DC crossover week "complementary abilities"

Notes:

This is a first fic in the series, with the explanation for those who aren't addicted gamblers.
The title is what I think would be their banner name, the seer like you know, an oracle.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Genshin + DC, Dick getting his vision?

The visions were a natural part of this world. A moment of creation made by the gods, usually unobtainable by the ordinary. The seven elements immigrated through a rift between the words, forever changing the man kind. There weren't many rules nor did anybody knew how to obtain one. Wealthy tried buying one , yet it never worked. The ones giving them up would meet a tragic end.

In this essay I will —

Barbara was staring at the words on her screen, remembering it was due two hours ago. She had spend way too much time coordinating most heroes responding to the current crisis. There weren't that many, considering the entirety of the humanity was facing extinction, though it was a direct result of another invasion a day before.

This one was coming to an end and she was glad. It was never fun to face the end of the world, no matter how dull and monotone they got. She still wasn't used to be on this end of the vigilante world. The Joker ruined her life, everything she worked so hard for and it wasn't even for her. She was a chess piece, prepared for her father breakdown. At least that plan didn't happen.

She couldn't fight normally, so she would do anything she could. Be it help, mentoring new generation or finishing her college. The visions haunted her in her sleep. Both Bruce and Dick had their visions. She was sure other heroes were hiding one as well. She knew Dinah and Oliver had one, but she didn't know which element it was. Thinking about it, she had to summarize each element and their powers, the most posable theory, which one was she most likely to get (she wouldn't. If she hadn't received a vision yet then she had nothing to hope for) and format the entire thing.

She checked the site of the attack — everything had come to an end. People on the scene were cleaning up, answering questions and resting. She let out a breath of relief. Now she could focus on her essay.

"Good job everybody," she said into her comm. "I'm calling it for tonight."

Electro - the power of electricity, associated with eternity.

Anemo - the power of wind, associated with freedom.

Geo - the power of earth (ground), associated with contracts.

Hydro - the power of water, associated with justice.

Pyro - the power of fire, associated with the war.

Cryo - the power of ice, associated with love.

Dendro - the power of earth (plants), associated with wisdom.

Perfect sum up of the elemental forces in her opinion. There wasn't much research done in the first place, there was no information about the exact mechanism of getting a vision or where exactly they came from. She got a little curious after finishing her work. She went to the deep web, looking for less academical and more real answers. She read stories, compiling similar results and started making notes.

She had spend so much time on this, that the sun rays shined right into her eyes. She lifted her eyes, then checked the hour. 5:29. She was starting classes in 3 hours. Shit. Shitshitshit.

She was usually a calm and collected person, hiding her more cunning side deep down, under another mask. She was special. Differently abled. And a lot of other things that made her gag. She would rather people calling her an actual slur than the "niced up" version.

She could take it. She had taken so much more and yet people looked at her and pointed fingers.

Babs grabbed her bag and showed her laptop inside. She stood up, making sure her arms were supporting her weight and grabbed her wheelchair. She needed to have a shower, which was now a nightmare and make herself some food and coffee. She checked her schedule and groaned when she realised she had almost seven hours on campus.

She gritted her teeth. She would survive it, somehow.

Babs was wrong.

It was barely her third class out of six and she was dying. She had no idea how she was going to survive this. Her thermos was empty, her eyes were closing themselves. She could barely focus on anything before her, not to mention actually listening to the lecture. She thought about actually cutting her losses, claiming something about a doctor visit (nobody would say a thing) or general pain in her legs. But the next class was her favourite and she promised herself she wouldn't skip it, no matter what.

She wheeled herself to the vending machine, with a goal of getting even more caffeine in her veins, when a sight of an out-of-order sign greeted her eyes. If somebody asked her how close she was to a mental breakdown, her fingers would be touching.

She took a deep breath, inhaling the barely detectable scent of coffee and wheeled into the class. She took her one designated spot in the front, pulling out her laptop and getting ready to start taking notes. She was already more than halfway there, she could do it. She was Batgirl the Oracle. Her new mantle went deeper now, even if she wasn't used to it yet.

The professor started the class and Babs tried to focus more. She was more than aware that her notes were going to be barely comprehendible when she was fully rested, but she wasn't under the delusion that she would be fully rested in this semester. In a few words — it wasn't going to matter.

She was fighting another wave of tiredness, trying to keep her eyes open and wanting to remember the most of the class. She purposefully wasn't looking at the time, not wanting to start the countdown in her head. She noticed quite a few people staring at her. It wasn't anything new, but it was middle of the semester. She had hoped that it would've died down by now.

The rest of the classes were torture. And she experienced plenty of that when she was running around Gotham punching people. After she dragged herself home, she simply got into bed. She didn't even park her wheelchair properly, leaving it a problem for her future self. She wouldn't be able to keep her eyes open for much longer anyway.

She woke up somewhere around 3 am. She grabbed something to eat, made herself yet another batch of coffee and wheeled to her desk. She pulled out her laptop, her notebook, her vision and her water battle and began studying.

She stopped herself, looking at her desk. Her laptop. Her notebook. Her vision.

She stared at it, a round green orb resonating with her.

She couldn't help herself but wonder, why now? Why dendro? She had very little to do with plants. Not to say she was useless in the battle. Though, the excitement of something new, something fresh, something just for her was clearing the doubts. She was eager to finds something unique, something she could use.

Maybe it wouldn't be all that bad.

Notes:

Yo, Babs has dendro, now the question is how is she gonna use it?
Another notes: It's just the visions in the DC world, without archons (i think, may change)
The visions work in a way that grants the person use of the element, with pretty unique abilities, depending on weapon type.

Also, I was supposed to post it yesterday, but I got so sick, ugh.
If anybody wants to speculate which visions other people have, be my guest, god knows i need some inspiration.
