Work Text:

Dazai spun in her chair, happily abandoning the stack of paperwork she’d ignored for days – much to Kunikida’s dismay. She spun until the warm colors of the agency blurred in her vision and she was one turn away from falling straight off of her chair. A voice broke her movements.

“Uh, Dazai-san?” Atsushi asked the woman, awkwardly standing there with his hands behind his back. Dazai halted her spinning to face the boy, blinking a few times to clear her dizzy mind. When she finally could see straight, she saw Atsushi looking off hesitantly into the distance.

Dazai replied with a grin on her face, “Yes Atsushi-kun?” She was slightly amused at his nervousness.

“The president says he wants to talk to you in his office.” Dazai perked up, eyes drifting into the distance, finger to her lips as she tried to recall anything she had done wrong in the past few days – not much other than the occasional suicide attempt.

“What has she done now?” Kunikida questioned from his desk, sternly observing Dazai through his glasses, already preparing to lecture the woman. Dazai rested her chin in her palm and sighed

She responded dramatically, “why is it you always assume the worst in me, Kunikida-kun?” She shook her head and tutted to herself, “did you know that being so pessimistic towards your co-workers can ultimately ruin relationships?”

Kunikida raised his eyebrows, “seriously?”

“Yes! You should write this down.” Dazai nodded enthusiastically, gesturing with her hands for Kunikida to document the information in his notebook whilst smiling mischievously. Atsushi groaned under his breath, as if he already knew where the interaction was heading.

As Kunikida was scribbling the fact down, Dazai lazily spoke. “I’m just messing with you.” The sharp sound of a pen snapping rang throughout the office. Honestly, you’d think after being fooled so many times that Kunikida wouldn’t fall for it anymore.

Already sensing an argument incoming, Atsushi butted back in. “Okay, seriously Dazai-san, the president said he needed you for something important.” Dazai hummed and gave him a thumbs up.

“Alright then, thank you Atsushi-kun.” She said with the corners of her mouth twitching as she stood and patted his head. The boy stared at her in confusion as she strolled towards Fukuzawa’s office, hands buried in her tan trenchcoat pockets.

Her hand brushed the doorknob and she took a deep breath. Stepping into the room, she smoothed out her white skirt, giving the man sat at his desk a smile. She made sure to close the door behind her, slowly stepping over until she was in front of the agency’s leader. The floorboards creaked beneath her boots.

“Dazai, I’m glad to see you’re doing well.” He began, giving her a nod of greeting. Dazai returned the gesture and twirled a curl on her index finger, “I am glad to see you are doing well too, boss.”

She stood stiffly, assuming the worst. Dazai knew she was behind on some paperwork but she didn’t deem it that necessary, not enough for the president to call her into his office.

Fukuzawa cleared his throat. “You are probably wondering why I specifically called you into my office and no one else.” Dazai hummed in confirmation, tilting her head. “Well, I have a task that only you will be able to carry out.”

Dazai exhaled through her nose. She wasn’t in the mood to be scolded today. A task that only she could carry out, huh? Solo missions weren’t her favourite. She’d survive this one, though. Probably. Dazai nodded, bringing her hands to rest at her sides.

“Well, we have caught news of an ability user in Yokohama who was sending threats towards both the Mafia and the agency,” Fukuzawa leaned closer, chair creaking, “I wouldn’t normally do this, however I saw fit that we send both you and Chuuya Nakahara out to gather information due to your history with the Port Mafia.”

Dazai’s face scrunched up in distaste – mission with Chuuya? God, Dazai hated that girl. She thought that maybe she’d finally be free from her sharp tongue and loatheful looks but she was yet again proven wrong.

“And… What are the details for the mission, boss?” She forced out, nails digging crescent shapes into her palm.

“The two of you will meet up with them at an address I will write down for you, and we have communicated that we only wish to work with them. You will report back to me without causing any damage, and from there we will take them down before they can gather any allies, understood?”

Dazai acknowledged Fukuzawa’s words, his sharp tone drilling into her ears. “Yes. I suppose some sacrifices must be made for the greater good,” she sighed.

“Good, then you are dismissed. I will write down the information for you.” Fukuzawa dismissed her, leaning back in his chair and picking up his pen. Dazai turned around and began walking out of the room when Fukuzawa’s deep voice stopped her in her tracks.

“Oh and, Dazai, make sure you get that paperwork in on time.” He said, glancing up at her. Dazai laughed brightly and gave him a thumbs up, ignoring his disbelieving look in favor of leaving the office and returning to her desk.

“Well?” Kunikida pressed, “did you do something wrong?”

Dazai gasped with a hand on her heart, “you truly do know how to make a girl feel bad, Kunikida-kun!” She whined, “but no, I didn’t – for your information.”

The man rolled his eyes and returned to diligently writing his reports. Dazai wondered how he never took breaks, she could never go that long without slacking off. She watched him for a few moments before giving up and looking at her own, unfinished, work.

After ten long and boring minutes, Fukuzawa returned to Dazai’s desk with a slip of paper in his hand, sliding it under Dazai’s arms. The woman was sat with her head rested on her desk as she used her elbows as a pillow.

“Dazai. Here are the mission’s details.” His voice dragged her from her trance and she peeped one eye over her arms, yawning and sitting up with an exaggerated stretch, picking the piece of paper up from the desk and scanning it.

“Okay, thank you.” She gave a tight smile, slipping the paper into her pocket. Chuuya was probably aware of the shared task already… Dazai snorted at the thought of the small executive fuming at her desk, cursing Dazai out as if it was her fault. She wiped the smirk off of her face before Kunikida asked what she was grinning about.

Briefly, she went through the contents of the mission in her mind; wait outside for Chuuya, walk into the warehouse, explain that they merely wished to form an alliance because they have similar goals about destroying the agency and mafia, pry information about their plans, and then report back to their respective organisations. Simple. In and out.

Dazai doodled on her paperwork absentmindedly. 10pm was the time they needed to both be at the warehouse – sharp. Glancing at the clock on the wall, Dazai noted that it was 4pm. She’d need to set off at 9:30 then, just after her shift would have ended.

The sounds of chatter and bustling settled around the woman as she mentally prepared for her mission with Chuuya. Kunikida’s pen scratched against paper, Atsushi messily boiled tea and Ranpo crunched on a lollipop in the corner of the office. The normal Agency bustle.

Slumping down, Dazai rested her head against the cold wood again, exhaling at the relieving sensation against her warm skin. Outside, a frosty chill settled over Yokohama, however it was sweltering inside the office.

Dazai spent the rest of her hours in the agency doing nothing. Her nothing consisted of pretending to nap, annoying Kunikida, snacking, and pondering about Chuuya and how to irritate her. She had even spent overtime in the agency – mainly because she couldn’t be bothered to go all the way to her dorm when the agency building was closer to the warehouse’s whereabouts.

Unfortunately, she found herself shivering on the walk to the location. She hadn’t considered that she would go on a mission and didn’t think about wearing tights. Therefore, she had to endure the biting wind as she trudged along the roads of Yokohama.

She pressed her palm to her nose as she sniffled, praying she wouldn’t get a cold from the weather. The last thing she needed was to work the day after seeing Chuuya and whilst being sick. Frost settled itself inside her throat, drying out her mouth.

Rain clung to every surface possible, reflecting the light from inside bars she passed. Dazai tucked her hands in her pockets as she muttered to herself, mainly about how stupid the mission was, and how seeing Chuuya would further ruin her night.

Dazai knew everything that got on Chuuya’s nerves, and she was determined to make her angry. Well, after they finish the mission. Seeing the woman all riled up was amusing for Dazai.

Speaking of Chuuya, the short and fiery woman was leaning against the wall of the warehouse as Dazai approached, a lit cigarette sat between her red lips. Chuuya fixed her into place with a glare, bringing a gloved hand up to pluck the cigarette from where it rested.

“You’re late, shitty Dazai.” The woman snapped, more hushed than usual due to the man waiting just inside the warehouse they stood outside of. “I was starting to think you’d finally found a river deep enough to hold you.”

Dazai gasped, “I’m late?” She glanced at her watch and rolled her eyes at Chuuya, “no I’m not. I wouldn’t leave you waiting in the cold all alone, Chuuya. I’m not that cruel. A dog should be with its owner!”

Chuuya scowled and threw her cigarette to the pebbled floor, standing on it with a single, red boot. She stomped over to Dazai and grabbed the other woman by her collar, glaring at her. “I told you to drop that stupid bet. Another peep and, I swear to God, I’ll kill you where you stand.”

Dazai beamed, “You promise?”

The mafia executive groaned and shoved Dazai. Dazai fixed her collar from where Chuuya had aggressively tugged on it. Adjusting her hat, Chuuya’s gaze returned to Dazai. “You know what we’re meant to do?”

“Of course I do, slug. What kind of a partner would I be if I didn’t know what to do on a mission?” Dazai furrowed her brows, crossing her arms. Chuuya stared at her for a few seconds before dropping it, grumbling and fixing her gloves.

It seemed the cold was also getting to Chuuya because she didn’t waste time bickering with Dazai, instead opting for turning towards the warehouse and gesturing with her head.

“Okay. Let’s do this then.” She said, already beginning to walk towards the building without waiting a second for Dazai, who trailed behind leisurely. Normally, they would need a disguise but, thanks to intel, they had learned that this man had never been seen around Yokohama before – presumably new to the area. Therefore, they deemed it unnecessary.

Dazai fixed her face into a professional resting expression, walking side by side with Chuuya as she pushed the wooden doors open. Moonlight filtered in through the thin ceiling and dust floated around in the air, crates lined the walls from top to bottom.

In the middle of the warehouse, stood a man – maybe in his twenties. He wore slacks and a white blouse, black hair unruly and dark eyes unfocused until Chuuya cleared her throat. “Ah, there you are. I was beginning to think you would never show.”

Chuuya was about to respond before Dazai cut in, “of course not, we wouldn’t pass up such an enticing opportunity,” she said easily, “besides, it isn’t everyday we meet someone who has such… Ambitious intentions.”

In response, the man chuckled lowly, peering at the two women in the moonlit dark. “You could say that. Say, how did you manage to hear about me? I’d say I’ve gone pretty under the radar.”

Dazai smiled, it was true – the man had gone under the radar for the most part, the problem was: the Port Mafia had eyes and ears all over the city. Keeping things hidden from them was near impossible. Unless you were Osamu Dazai.

“Well, you see, my friend here has connections.” She chuckled, keeping her words vague, “When one of her friends told–”

“We’re not here to start trouble. We heard you’ve got issues with the Mafia and the Agency. So do we.” Chuuya interrupted, glaring at Dazai for talking too much. Did the woman even have a plan?

Dazai, resisting a pout, sighed and continued, “Think of us as… neutral parties. Honest, harmless women just looking for a little cooperation. We could really help you.” She insisted, crossing her arms.

Chuuya chewed on her bottom lip, adorned with dark red lipstick, as she listened to Dazai drone on. She figured that they could lightly bring up the idea of them helping – however, Dazai had just gone in and said it immediately, far too insistent.

Chuckling, the man tilted his head. “Harmless? You two don’t scream it.”

Dazai placed a hand on her chest and shook her head in confusion, “do we not? Hm… I even did my makeup today.” Chuuya glared at her with a look that said “not helping.”

“We both have information on the organisations. If you let us know what you want, we could help you.” Chuuya said, nudging Dazai’s ankle with her boot in annoyance. She hoped she wasn’t being too forward.

“And what makes you think I want allies?” The man seemed amused, to Dazai’s annoyance. He was far too cocky. What made him think that he could take down two large and powerful organisations alone? The only reason they both wanted him eliminated was because of his persistence, determination was dangerous and if he got true allies, he could become an issue.

“Why would you not? I’d say it would be hard taking down two organisations alone, no?” Dazai remarked, her lip curling up as she threaded a hand through her matted waves. She noted that the man had an air of confidence, as if he knew how this would already play out.

“Of course it would. Who said I didn’t already have people on my side?”

Now that got Dazai’s attention. She figured it could’ve been a possibility, considering how cocky he was, especially when it was two against one if it escalated to violence. Chuuya tensed up, hands clenching. “Hah?! You—”

“Shut up, idiot.” Dazai grumbled under her breath into Chuuya’s ear, who shuddered in response to the cold air. Way to make it obvious. They would need to stay non-hostile, a foreign concept to her partner clearly.

There was a possibility that there were other people surrounding them, she hadn’t considered that. Based on the positioning on the crates, three of the corners were concealed from the two – meaning that there could be a whole team hiding. She didn’t allow her eyes to linger.

Dazai took a deep breath, goosebumps rising on her legs. “You don’t think you could use two extra people on your team?” She asked smoothly, raising an eyebrow. Ambitious.

“I could…” The man drawled, “what do you both have to offer? Abilities, or combat?”

Chuuya perked up, she was skilled in combat outside of her ability as well as with it. If it came down to it, Chuuya would be able to fight the man. She crossed her arms over her chest and nodded, “I’m a skilled fighter.”

“I can see that. And you?” He turned to Dazai, grinning far too wide for her liking. She hummed to herself for a moment. “I’m good with tactics and planning. Something you will need.”

Nodding, he resumed, “so neither of you have abilities?” The two nodded. “I see… and are you good with weapons?” The corners of Dazai’s mouth tugged up.

“With guns.” She confirmed, allowing her eyes to wander around the space whenever Chuuya was the one being addressed. Her head turned towards the sound of rustling. Could be the wind. Could be something else…

Dazai wrapped her arms around her torso and narrowed her eyes at him. “So, you gonna let us help you?” Chuuya questioned, tone sharp and biting like the frost settling around the two. Forward.

Clearing his throat, the man placed his palm on the crate nearest to him. Maybe there was something inside of it. “Now, you see, I would.

“Great, we’ve wasted our time.” Chuuya whispered to herself, pinching her nose.

“I don’t work with people with loud mouths. Nor do I work with spies.” He smirked, jaw clenching in anticipation. Dazai returned the gesture, biting back a chuckle. Before Chuuya could defend them, Dazai butt in. “Wow, you’re a sharp one, aren’t you?”

Chuuya widened her eyes and scowled at Dazai. “You maniac, why are you giving us away?” She hissed so only Dazai could hear her. The sound carried in the almost-silent warehouse.

“She isn’t.” The man chuckled, “sending the infamous Double Black straight to me. Gotta say, that isn’t the smartest thing they’ve done.” Chuuya tensed up, preparing for a fight, whilst Dazai stayed perfectly still and gouged the surroundings.

The warehouse groaned under its own weight, beams cracking like brittle bones. The wood splintered at the edges and frayed from the strain. Dust drifted in the air as the warehouse began to collapse. Dazai held her breath. The familiar red glow emitted from the woman next to her.

“You two are weapons, not women. I’d be a fool to let you live.” Came the arrogant voice. He  had already backed up to the side exit of the building. Dazai smiled through the chaos, covering her mouth with the crook of her elbow, “Oh, don’t be so harsh. We’ve barely introduced ourselves. My name’s—”

“Shut up, Dazai!” Chuuya snapped, eyes darting around as she figured out what to do first. Debris rattled threateningly above them as she held it back with gravity manipulation, glaring at the man gripping the doorframe.

He scowled at the interruption, flicking his gaze toward the untouched crates. The boxes trembled – and then lifted.

Crash.

Dazai had been thrown with the force of the crate, sending her toppling on top of the other. She groaned, her ability nullifying Chuuya’s – blood dripping from her nose due to the impact. Chuuya’s gravity weakened and then died under Dazai’s touch, leaving her disoriented. “Idiot, get off!” Chuuya yelled, “fucking hurry!”

With the lack of gravity manipulation, debris began to rain from the air, crates, support beams all crashing down on them.

Multiple sets of footsteps thundering passed them, sprinting out of the tumbling building. Dazai and Chuuya rolled around as they attempted to avoid litter and crates crushing them. Eventually, Dazai unscrewed her eyes and glanced up through the dirt and splintered wood to find a compact opening of free space.

Dazai’s grip clamped like a vice around Chuuya’s wrist as she dragged the executive into the cramped pocket of space. “Let go of me!” She bellowed over the sound of rumbling and the warehouse caving in. Dazai didn’t oblige, tugging Chuuya in first and following after her.

The sound of crashing continued to drone on outside. Their attacker clearly hadn’t fled just yet, although he would soon. Fukuzawa wouldn’t be pleased. But how could Dazai have known she would be recognised?

“What was that ability?...” Dazai mused aloud, scrunching her nose and sneezing from all the dust. Chuuya scoffed and clenched her fist. “You fucking suicidal idiot!” Chuuya was so loud it made Dazai wince.

“Chuuya, don’t act like you don’t have it better right now, you’re small enough to fit.” She whined, gesturing to her curled up legs for emphasis.

In the tiny space, Dazai was inevitably pushed up against Chuuya. Her legs were bent and her shoulder blades were pressed against the solid ground. She twisted one of her arms from under her so she could probe a bruise that was forming on her cheek. She shuddered out a sigh.

“I had it under control.” Chuuya snapped, groaning at the pain of being dragged across the floor. She writhed under the debris to free her hand and tug her hat firmer on her matted ginger hair.

“I couldn’t help the fact I was thrown at you, Chuu–yaa!” She replied, bringing her thumb to wipe blood that was trickling from her forehead. It was impossible for Chuuya to use her ability with Dazai touching her, so they were trapped until they were rescued, or until they died from lack of oxygen.

Dazai took note of the murderous glint in Chuuya’s blue eyes, “you’re glaring like it’s my fault we’re trapped.” Dazai huffed, looking away from the venomous glare.

“It is your fault, stupid mackerel!”

Dazai’s breaths came in short pants as she attempted to catch it from being hit with the crate. After the adrenaline wore off, it hurt like hell. Her lower back throbbed in protest as she shifted to get comfortable.

Dazai could feel every wound that was inflicted on her; her back, the cut on her forehead, her knuckles that were scraped red and raw.

Chuuya glared at her, “are you even going to attempt to get out of here?”

“Why waste all that energy?” She complained, scrunching her nose up at the taste of splintered wood and dust on her tongue. Dazai assumed she looked like a mess; her brunette hair tangled, dirt and blood smeared over her cheek, her tan trenchcoat was crumpled and wrinkled.

Tugging her skirt back down, Dazai pouted dramatically. If she were to die today, she would much prefer it to be with someone that wasn’t Chuuya. Suffocating to death would be so painful.

“What’s on your mind, asshole?” Chuuya spat, tugging on her coat that was trapped under some wood before eventually giving up and pulling it from under her to set it to the side where she could grab it later.

Dazai giggled, “well, Chuuya, I was thinking… If I were to die here—”

“Okay, nevermind.” Chuuya rolled her eyes, “you won’t die.”

“Oh Chuuya, don’t curse me like that!” Dazai whined, how dare Chuuya be so horrible towards her? Dazai’s long curls tugged on her scalp as she attempted to move her head, stuck under her shoulders. She had to hiss and pull through it, freeing her matted hair and brushing it to the side.

Thigh brushing Dazai’s, Chuuya attempted to twist away. “Move your leg, you’re breathing down my neck.” She groaned, rolling her eyes and shifting.

“Don’t act like you aren’t loving it,” Dazai flirted teasingly, “maybe I’ll settle for dying with you, if I must.” Sighing dreamily, Dazai looked off longingly into the distance (a small peephole in the debris where you could only see more rubble.)

Chuuya gagged, “I can’t believe I let myself get stuck with you. Of all people.”

Dazai only snickered. She attempted to shuffle away from Chuuya, only to end up bumping her head against the wood above her. “Ow…” She winced, using her singular free hand to rub the top of her head where she had collided with splintered beams.

“How did your stupid hat stay on the whole time?” Dazai asked, eyes drifting to Chuuya’s hat still firmly planted on her head with raised eyebrows. It was like the thing was sewn onto her scalp. She never took it off.

Chuuya glared, “Keep running your mouth and I’ll feed you splinters.”

Hand to her heart, Dazai gasped, “Oh but Chuuya, I’m simply trying to make innocent conversation!”

“If you don’t shut up, I swear I’ll gag you.” Chuuya threatened, shifting where she lay, thigh grazing against Dazai’s as she attempted to put some distance between them so she could use her ability.

“Promise?”

Chuuya’s head turned so fast she must’ve gotten whiplash. Her cheeks heated up, from embarrassment, as she glowered at Dazai, biting down on her tongue. Dazai couldn’t help but laugh at the reaction, then cough from the wood particles she inhaled. Heat radiated from Chuuya’s body even in the cold, like a fiery human radiator.

Moonlight filtered in through the gaps in materials, illuminating the confined space and the red lipstick that smeared across Chuuya’s cheek. It was unfair how she didn’t look absolutely horrible – she didn’t look good of course, but she looked okay…

The grind of wood shifting and rubbing echoed from above them, making both of the women look up at the sound, sighing when they realised it wasn’t life-threatening.

Unfortunately, the gap was barely big enough for the both of them. There was enough room at the head for space between their ribs and torsos, however towards the bottom, it shrunk, and Dazai’s legs had to curl up but her thigh still brushed against Chuuya’s. Their breaths mingled along with the scent of logs and sweat.

Dazai used her free hand to wipe at her forehead, suddenly aware of how stifling it was in the small space they shared. Her other arm was trapped under her back, slowly going numb with the lack of blood circulation – as were her feet.

For a second, Dazai almost looked serious. Of course, she had to ruin it with her loud mouth as she spoke up. “If this is how I go, at least I’m not alone.”

Chuuya rolled her eyes, “if you bring up death one more time I’ll make sure I kill you before you can do it yourself.” Dazai grimaced at the thought. Being killed by a slug was such an embarrassing way to go out.

Chuuya’s knee slid against Dazai’s, a small accidental press that made her chest tighten. Too close. Dazai wanted to put more space between them. She told herself that the tingles that were sparking beneath her skin were the lingering effects of adrenaline and pain.

“You’re smiling.” Chuuya verbally noted, “why’re you smiling?” She narrowed her eyes, as if Dazai’s happiness was a personal attack on her. Dazai hadn’t even noticed.

Still grinning, Dazai replied gleefully, “because this is fun.” The response was intentionally vague. Yet, Chuuya still furrowed her eyebrows and her eyes darted anywhere that wasn’t Dazai, ignoring the flush creeping up her chest. “...You’re impossible.” Chuuya grumbled.

“And yet Chuuya is still here,” she muses, “what does that say about her?”

Chuuya scowled, her usual expression returning to her face, “don’t act like I have a say in this – I physically cannot move.” She pushed fruitlessly at the debris at her feet for emphasis, Dazai’s nullification preventing her from using her ability.

For a few moments, it was silent. Chuuya was thinking to herself – probably of ways she could either kill Dazai or get out.

“Can you try and move your legs away from me and your head closer? Then you’ll be lying straight and not touching me.” Chuuya suggested. Dazai grumbled and groaned about ‘effort’ and yet she still obliged.

She used all her force to move her leg, twisting it into an awkward position. Dazai hissed and began to shift the other one, they were still curled but her thigh was no longer pushed against Chuuya’s. She moved her torso closer to Chuuya’s as the other moved hers away, to put distance between them.

There was a small issue though; no matter how hard either of them tried, Dazai’s shoulder kept brushing against Chuuya. Chuuya couldn’t move her elbow in the small space and Dazai’s arm was trapped under her. Neither could lift their head up, lest they wished for a face full of wood.

“Ugh, this isn’t working.” Dazai whined, before adjusting her legs into the position they were in previously, flinching at the tingling in her numb feet. The strain on her legs was now briefly lifted, however her thigh was now yet again against Chuuya’s, probably even closer than before.

Chuuya didn’t even complain at Dazai’s lack of determination, instead opting to settle back into the way she was laid before. Dazai shifted her head back, not that it made much difference.

“When we get out of this, I’m going to use your bandages to hang you from the nearest lamppost.” Chuuya said with a promise in her tone. How kind of her!

“Oh, what a romantic gesture! Our first date and you’re already thinking about our future. I'm truly touched, Chuuya.” Dazai joked, normally she would dramatically place a hand on her chest, or her forehead. Unfortunately, the position she was in didn’t accommodate for that.

With a glare, Chuuya punched Dazai’s leg with the little amount of room she had to move around. It didn’t have much power but Dazai still groaned theatrically.

After a few moments, Chuuya sighed, “well… what’re we gonna do now?” She seemed completely out of ideas. Dazai’s only plan was to wait to be rescued, considering both the ADA and the Port Mafia knew of their whereabouts. “...Wait, I guess.”

“No, idiot, I mean to pass time.” Chuuya clarified, clicking her tongue.

“What makes you think I want to spend time with a stupid slug like you?” Dazai asked, purposely riling Chuuya up. It seemed to work, since the other woman attempted to lunge for her, before realising she could hardly move and giving up.

The movement left them closer than before, Dazai could see the dust clinging to Chuuya’s lashes, the smear of red lipstick from the scuffle and the dried blood settled on her cheek bone. Dazai snorted at the sight. “What?” Chuuya snapped.

Bringing her free hand up, Dazai used her thumb to wipe the lipstick from around Chuuya’s mouth, remnants of dark red still stubbornly clinging to her lips. From this angle, Dazai could see the light freckles that dusted Chuuya’s nose, and the way her eyes lit up from the moonlight. Her hand moved and she brushed the blood from her cheek as well. She couldn’t let her dog be dirty.

Chuuya tensed up, scowl deepening at the other woman’s actions, but she didn’t pull away.

Dazai had never really thought about it before, but Chuuya was objectively an attractive woman. She had shoulder length orange hair, long lashes, plump lips and a pretty figure. She was every man's, and woman's, dream.

Dazai considered herself unaffected. Until now. What a pain – it wasn’t enough for her to be terrifying and strong, she had to look like that too. Not that she’d admit it out loud – imagine how smug the little gremlin would be.

“What the fuck do you want?...” Chuuya whispered, but it lacked any bite.

“A good dog keeps their owner warm, y’know?” Dazai blurted out, feeling the burn of her cheeks at the proximity. She immediately winced. Why did she say that? Chuuya was annoyed, obviously, but it appeared more like reading from a script than actual anger.

Chuuya grumbled but made no actual move to tilt her head away from Dazai’s observing gaze. “Shut up, asshole.” She replied automatically. It seemed that even the high and mighty Chuuya Nakahara was affected by the tense distance between them.

“Make me.” Dazai whispered, warm breath mingling with Chuuya’s. It was cliché. It was said with the intention of making Chuuya back off and yell at her – like normal. But there was also a baiting grin plastered on her lips.

Instead, Chuuya looked up at Dazai through strands of hair and let her eyes drift down to Dazai’s lips, unable to let the other get the final word. For reasons even she couldn’t understand, Dazai twisted so she lay on her side, her arm still unfortunately trapped under her, and brought her hand up to brush the ginger strands away.

“Fine, maybe I will.” Chuuya replied, voice far too loud for the intimate, quiet space between them. Chuuya’s gloved hand lifted and she rested it on top of Dazai’s which settled on her cheek. Hesitantly, Chuuya leaned forward and captured Dazai’s lips with her own.

The kiss was far too soft for their history with each other. Dazai let her eyes flutter shut and the warm feeling under her skin spread throughout her whole body. It was slow, exploring. Chuuya’s lips were soft and she carried a faint taste of expensive red wine.

They pulled away and Dazai was unable to open her eyes for a moment, trapped in the moment. Dazai relished the feeling of Chuuya’s breath on her mouth, still close enough to feel every tremble.

“If you tell anyone about this… I’ll fucking kill you.” She whispered against Dazai’s lips.

Chuuya closed and opened her mouth, as if she was going to say something else but Dazai cut her off with another kiss. This time, it was overflowing with passion. Dazai poured every single one of her feelings towards Chuuya into the press of their lips, trying to communicate her every thought.

Chuuya responded with equal fervor, her hand travelling to Dazai’s waist and holding onto her trenchcoat like it was a lifeline. The quiet space was filled with the sounds of kissing, heavy breathing and shifting. Dazai had never considered that she might’ve liked women. Especially not Chuuya.

The pull between their bodies was electric and Dazai found herself craving more, craving the press of their skin, the sound of her partner’s breathing. Chuuya slowly became impatient, tugging at Dazai, releasing soft sounds against her lips.

Dazai took the opportunity to run her tongue along Chuuya’s bottom lip, catching the taste of her lipstick. Tentatively, Chuuya parted her lips and Dazai wasted no time intensifying the kiss. Chuuya was as rough of a kisser as she was with everything else, treating it like a challenge. Dazai, surprisingly, found herself adoring it – Chuuya kissed like she was fighting.

The grip Dazai’s hand had on the other’s cheek tightened as her tongue pushed further into Chuuya’s mouth. The coiling, aching warmth gripped and clawed at Dazai’s stomach as Chuuya let out soft moans and gasps into the desperate kisses.

The space, already reduced to splintered wood and rubble, shrank further until it contained only the pressure of Chuuya’s mouth on hers and the frantic beat of her heart against her ribs. Dazai had never felt anything like it. A pressure built in her gut, a clawing need that she hadn’t ever experienced.

Chuuya experimentally bit on Dazai’s lip and she moaned. Dazai. She moaned. Chuuya seemed pleased, if the hand tightening at her waist said anything.

“You kiss rough, Chuuya. Figures.” Dazai smirked against Chuuya’s lips, pulling away just enough so she could tease, trying to make it playful. It couldn’t be helped. Chuuya was so easy to get angry.

Chuuya scowled at the interruption, just barely letting her eyes flutter open, “shut up and take it, bastard.” She hissed, voice hoarse. She pressed her lips back to Dazai’s, rough, insistent. Dazai wasn’t complaining. She had a hot girl kissing her – you couldn’t blame her.

Dazai let herself fall back into the rhythm with Chuuya, the push-and-pull. Chuuya’s fist was clenched, gripping onto the fabric of Dazai’s coat desperately.

Without breaking the kiss, Dazai attempted to free her other numb arm that was restrained, twisting and pushing against the debris above her to have both her hands to use. She eventually whined and began to wiggle her arm around to get it free.

The other must’ve taken notice of it because she paused the heated make out to laugh against Dazai’s lips. Dazai could feel Chuuya’s small grin pressing on her mouth and if that wasn’t on the list of top five best things to ever happen to her, she didn’t know what was.

Dazai unfortunately had to pull away to focus on the task at hand. Opening her eyes, she took in Chuuya’s appearance and that slow, festering feeling in her gut intensified. The woman was flushed, pupils dilated, her lips were plumped, red, and slick with their saliva.

Fumbling, Dazai managed to twist her arm free from under her and she sighed in relief, falling straight back on her side but now much more comfortable. She was sweating both from the kiss and from the physical exertion. She groaned at the numb, prickling feeling running through her veins, gazing down at Chuuya.

Leaning back down, Dazai pressed her lips back to Chuuya’s, leaning over her – one arm was sat by Chuuya’s head and the other rested on her cheek. Dazai started to press slow kisses to Chuuya’s jaw, her throat, the sides of her neck. Chuuya’s breath stuttered at every kiss.

Dazai pushed Chuuya’s choker up and bit down on her neck, sinking her teeth into the pale flesh. She could taste remnants of her perfume and the overwhelming taste of skin and sweat. Surprisingly, she found herself not minding as she sucked dark marks onto Chuuya, the sound of stifled whimpers filling the space.

“Fuckin’... Stop it idiot,” Chuuya mumbled, “gonna… get asked questions.”

Dazai pulled her mouth from where it was biting into Chuuya’s neck. She had the urge to continue anyway, but she knew Chuuya would probably punch her and stop everything they were doing. She settled for nibbling and kissing her neck instead, which still got the same reaction. Was this the part where she died? Maybe she already had and this was heaven…

Chuuya writhed in impatience. “Hurry up. You coward.” Dazai lifted her head and grinned, raising an eyebrow.

“Oh? Is Chuuya getting impatient?” She couldn’t resist the urge to taunt, “tell me what you want.” Her tone was playful but she could tell the look in her eyes wasn’t. Hunger. That was what she felt.

There was a red flush covering Chuuya’s face, her red lipstick even more smudged than before. She looked annoyingly beautiful. How could someone look so good covered in sweat and dirt? “Fuck you.” Chuuya spat.

“Is that a request or not?” Dazai shot back. Chuuya was making it way too easy. If looks could kill, Dazai would have died thousands of times already. Chuuya was glaring at Dazai so intensely that her act fell. She couldn’t deny it, she wanted Chuuya just as badly. There was a need simmering in her bones.

With fumbling hands, Dazai unbuttoned the other’s waist coat and blouse – did she have to wear so many layers? When Dazai looked up, she caught the amusement in Chuuya’s gaze. Fighting back the need to joke around, she continued unbuttoning until she could see Chuuya’s red, lacy bra.

Dazai had never seen a woman’s body other than her own – she had slept around with men before, but nothing ever truly hit the spot. This was a new experience for her.

She didn’t even bother unclasping the bra, doubting the space would allow for that, instead tugging the material down and freeing her left breast. Chuuya shivered at the sudden chill on her chest, grumbling insults towards Dazai under her breath. She wasted no time replacing the lace, placing her mouth on Chuuya’s skin.

The moan she was granted when Dazai tugged on her nipple with her teeth was near heavenly. The hand that rested near Chuuya’s head came down to grip her bare thigh, thankful for the black shorts that had ridden up slightly.

Cold air slowly began to heat up as their body temperatures increased, sweat beading on Chuuya’s hairline. She tugged her hat from her head and let her ginger hair sprawl out on the floor.

Dazai’s hand steadily trailed up Chuuya’s thigh, fingers dancing teasingly along the skin. She had a mission: to make Chuuya moan so loud they would be rescued by the sound alone. Okay, maybe not, but she still wanted to make her moan.

“Spread your legs a little,” Dazai whispered against Chuuya’s breast, running her tongue along the skin and rolling the bud between her teeth. Chuuya obliged, spreading her legs as much as the space would let her.

“I’ve never done this before.” Chuuya panted, out of breath already. Dazai could’ve figured that out, she was extremely sensitive.

Dazai asked anyway, “with a girl or just in general?”

Chuuya’s face flushed redder, if that was even possible, as she fumbled for words for a moment, brows furrowed. “I’ve never had sex before.” She admitted, “except for one time when I was drunk.”

Amused, Dazai snorted against Chuuya’s collarbone, fingers slowly tapping on the fabric of her shorts. “Don’t laugh at me, I’ll fucking kill you.” The threat seemed emptier when her legs were spread and her nipple was in Dazai’s mouth.

“I’m not,” Dazai replied teasingly, “It’ll be good, I swear.” Chuuya sighed and grumbled out a confirmation, letting her hands fall limp at her sides. Honestly, Dazai had never had sex with a girl either, but Chuuya didn’t need to know that. She’d touched herself enough times to know what felt good and what didn't.

Dazai’s fingers slipped to the waistband of Chuuya’s shorts, giving an experimental tug and chuckling when Chuuya snapped at her to hurry up. She pulled the fabric down tauntingly slow, bringing her mouth back to Chuuya’s breast and sucking purple marks into the skin to give her mouth something to do. Now she couldn’t complain about visible marks.

When the shorts had reached Chuuya’s mid thigh, Dazai spared a look down and – yep. Chuuya was wearing a matching thong. God, she didn’t even understand what she was doing to Dazai. She couldn’t explain the lust pooling in her stomach when, just twenty minutes ago, Dazai would’ve never dreamed of fucking Chuuya.

Desperately, Dazai tugged Chuuya’s underwear to the side. Chuuya hissed at the air hitting her, aware of how bare she was. Dazai wanted to take a peek but she could settle for sucking hickeys into Chuuya’s skin instead.

Teasingly, Dazai’s slim fingers ran along her folds, already wet. Dazai managed to bite back the urge to make fun of her for getting wet without Dazai doing even anything. Chuuya’s hips bucked in anticipation, she sucked in a deep breath to calm down.

Dazai was impatient. She parted Chuuya’s lips with her index finger and gathered slick on the digit. Chuuya’s breath trembled, loud in the confined space, screwing her eyes shut.

Dazai rubbed Chuuya’s clit with her finger, tantalizingly light. Clamping her lip between her teeth, Chuuya gasped. Dazai’s free hand rested in Chuuya’s hair.

“Come on, idiot.” Chuuya snapped, but the breathlessness and whine in her tone didn’t go unnoticed by Dazai, extremely attentive. “You sure?” She mumbled for confirmation, pressing her mouth to Chuuya’s chest.

“Fuck… Yes, I’m sure.” She whispered, squirming at the almost ticklish touches.

Dazai grinned, her middle finger joining the first as she rubbed slow and long circles against Chuuya. Chuuya jolted frantically at the sudden stimulation. Slowly, she let herself relax and sighed in pleasure. Dazai felt the familiar heat building between her thighs. It was almost embarrassing how good she felt whilst only touching Chuuya.

“How does it feel?” Dazai breathed out, moving her head up so she could get the full view and fuck, if she wasn’t turned on then, she absolutely was now. Chuuya’s inner thighs were coated in her own slick and her chest was blooming with purple and red marks.

Chuuya gasped, “feels… good.” She managed, tilting her head back and shuddering. Her thighs were trembling and all Dazai had done was rub her clit.

“Chuuya is so sensitive.” Dazai chuckled, masking the desperation with joke; the desperation to feel Chuuya’s walls wrap around her fingers, her tongue. Unfortunately, the small space wasn’t large enough to give Dazai enough space to eat her out so she’d have to make do.

With a grunt, Chuuya lifted her head and glared at Dazai half-heartedly, “shut up, Daz– hah..” She cut herself off with a groan as Dazai’s fingers sped up, biting her bottom lip.

The visual Dazai got was almost enough to make her come. Almost. Because she desperately needed to see what Chuuya looked like when she had an orgasm. She was sure that she’d die happy if she got to see that at least once.

Dazai’s lubricated fingers trailed down to Chuuya’s entrance, feeling her clench around the air as she whined in protest at the lack of stimulation. Hypnotised, Dazai watched as her middle finger sunk into Chuuya. A grimace formed on Chuuya’s features, “feels weird.”

Dazai giggled and let her finger idly sit there for a few moments. “Yeah, it will at first. Let me know if you don’t like it.”

Slowly, Dazai curled her finger and brushed against the other’s walls. At first, Chuuya subconsciously attempted to push the intrusion out, then Dazai lightly grazed against a spot that made her hips jerk up and force a moan out. It felt wrong – doing this with her ex-partner who she was supposed to hate. But it felt so exciting, who could blame Dazai, really?

Purposefully, she felt around and pressed on that same spot again until Chuuya’s thighs clamped down on her hand, torn between pushing her away and pulling her closer. “Oh god– fuck! Dazai…”

Hearing Chuuya moan her name like that erased any shred of doubt she ever had. She might even have wanted to live a little longer if it meant she could hear that angelic sound once more.

Dazai was greedy. She pushed in her index finger along with the middle one, it sank in easier that time around but Chuuya still scrunched her face up at the sensation. Allowing her only a few seconds of preparation, Dazai started shallowly thrusting the two fingers into Chuuya, brushing against her sweet spot more often.

Watching Chuuya come undone beneath her was more pleasurable than any fingers or tongue inside her could ever be. Dazai’s touches were confident, despite not having experience with women. The way Chuuya tightened around her told her enough. Dazai dragged the tips of her fingers against Chuuya.

“Relax, slug. You’re so tight.” Dazai breathed raggedly, desire laced in her tone. Chuuya shakily exhaled, forcing herself to loosen up.

“Shit.. hah – go fa…ster.” Chuuya gasped, probably too noisy considering they could be rescued at any moment but Dazai wouldn’t even dream of telling her to quieten down. As Dazai began to thrust her fingers into Chuuya at a quicker pace, Chuuya’s back arched off the floor and she bit down on her knuckles to silence the moans and whimpers that passed her lips.

Dazai curled her fingers and brought her thumb back to Chuuya’s clit. She spasmed and her orgasm crashed into her like an avalanche, her thighs trembled and clenched down harder around Dazai’s relentless, and cramping, hand. Dazai stifled a gasp as she watched Chuuya’s eyes roll back.

Muffling the loud cry that threatened to fall from Chuuya’s lips, Dazai leaned down to kiss her again. She let Chuuya ride out the high, fingers pumping her through it. Chuuya moaned Dazai’s name into her mouth, hips bucking up as she came down from her climax.

“...I would eat you out but I don’t think we have the space or time.” It was meant as a joke but it made Chuuya unintentionally clamp down on her fingers. So she liked dirty talk, huh?

Dazai unhurriedly pulled her fingers away from Chuuya, making sure she felt every part as they slipped out, her walls fluttering around the digits in overstimulation. Dazai brought her wet fingers to her mouth, licking the juices from them whilst keeping eye contact with the woman below her.

“You’re so fucking disgusting…” Chuuya grumbled but her eyes betrayed her true feelings, dilating as her legs twitched in arousal. Dazai quirked an eyebrow in amusement.

“You think you can go again?” Sue her. Dazai enjoyed watching Chuuya squirm in pleasure. Pleasure that she was causing. If they had all night, she’d gladly go on whilst Chuuya lost count of how many times she came, losing herself to ecstasy.

Chuuya’s voice snapped her out of the trance she was in, “you don’t want to come as well?”

“Aw, is my dog offering to return the favor?” Dazai teased, giggling lightly and poking Chuuya’s cheek. Her mind must’ve been clearing up because she slapped Dazai’s hand away and scowled.

“Fuck you then, you can do it on your own.” She barked, but the heat pooling between her legs and the flush beginning to return to her cheeks told Dazai all she needed to know. With a smug grin, Dazai brought her hand back to Chuuya’s thigh.

“So is that a yes or what?” Dazai asked, far too eager even as she attempted to sound chill. She was chill. So chill.

Chuuya tightly clenched her jaw before replying, “fine. Make it quick.”

Smiling at Chuuya’s willingness, Dazai wasted no time in bringing her hand back to Chuuya’s soaking core. The scent of sweat and sex masked the previous overwhelming scent of wood – so much so it would be abundantly obvious what the two were doing if someone were to rescue them.

The moonlight highlighted the sheen of sweat lingering over Chuuya’s breasts and neck as she tilted her head back in anticipation. God, she was going to ruin Dazai. Sex with Chuuya was even better than she ever could’ve imagined (not that she had ever imagined it. Definitely.)

“Spread your legs just a little wider…” Dazai mumbled to which Chuuya complied, spreading them as far as she could with the shorts constricting her movement, bending her knees slightly. “Good.”

Dazai didn’t wait any longer, she pushed two fingers inside Chuuya, wetness aiding her entry. She was beginning to think she could become addicted to being inside Chuuya, feeling every contraction as she learned what worked for her and what didn’t. Her thumb returned to Chuuya’s swollen clit, causing her breath to come out in sharp huffs.

At first, Chuuya’s back arched up and her legs quivered from the recent orgasm. However, she slowly began to relax back into the rhythm of it, whimpering around the palm that she had brought to her mouth so she wasn’t too loud. Even then, Dazai could faintly make out her name among the noises. It made her pride swell, knowing it was her who was making Chuuya feel such bliss.

Clearly Chuuya wouldn’t last long from the overstimulation, already increasing in volume and panting noisily. She didn’t take Chuuya as the vocal type in bed – well, she didn’t spend much time dwelling on it normally.

Dazai brought her mouth back to Chuuya’s breast, tongue flicking leisurely across her rosy nipple. Oh how she wished they had all night, Dazai could do this all the time. She knew this was probably only a one time thing, so she was going to make the short time that she had count, make sure she was the best Chuuya would ever have.

Dazai’s fingers curled in Chuuya, brushing up against the spot that made her see stars and cry out. It was clearly teetering on the edge of too much; Chuuya’s breath repeatedly hitched and her legs flailed around as much as the space would allow.

“Are you close?” Dazai muttered, voice muffled due to her mouth being full of Chuuya’s breast. Chuuya let out a hum of affirmation, her free hand coming up to Dazai’s head, taking a handful of the woman’s hair and tugging. Dazai almost let out a moan at the sudden pain blossoming in her scalp.

“Mmm.. gonna – gonna come,” Chuuya moaned, hips bucking up towards Dazai’s touch. Dazai could feel her thighs slipping together from the slick that had collected there – touching Chuuya had gotten her so aroused that her mind was reeling.

Dazai lifted her head to hungrily drink Chuuya in with her eyes, grateful she had been blessed with such a sight, “Go on then Chuuya, come.”

Chuuya bit down on her tongue as she shook through her second orgasm with a deafening moan. She went still before her legs shook intensely. Dazai felt her sleeve get soaked and Chuuya grimaced – did she just squirt?... Oh, Dazai was going to be insufferable.

“Damn, I knew I was good but I didn’t know I was that good.” Dazai taunted, pulling her fingers out of Chuuya cautiously, not wanting to further overstimulate her. Her fingers dripped on the floor when she removed them. Wiping her hand on her skirt, she let her eyes run over Chuuya’s disheveled appearance.

Somehow, Chuuya still had the energy to get pissed off. “Shut the fuck up.” She spat, like she didn’t just come twice from Dazai’s fingers alone. Dazai was almost jealous, she’d never been able to make herself squirt… How come Chuuya can?

With a pout, Dazai went straight back to complaining, “how did you do that? I’ve never been able to.” She slumped down, leaving an exhausted Chuuya to deal with her appearance on her own.

“That isn’t my problem.” Chuuya snorted, straightening out her choker and lifting her head to catch a glimpse of the mess she made. Sighing to herself, Chuuya used the sleeve of her discarded coat to clean some of the fluids from her thighs and tug her underwear and shorts up. “You fucking ruined my panties, idiot.”

“No, you ruined your panties.” Dazai giggled, observing Chuuya as she lazily went through the motions of cleaning herself up. Somehow Chuuya was still beautiful, even covered in sweat and completely burnt out from two orgasms. Dazai briefly wondered how long they had left until they would get found.

The mission was a complete fail. But Dazai couldn’t find it in her to care. In her opinion, this was the best mission she’d ever been on.

“So…” Dazai began.

“Don’t.” Chuuya cut her off, effectively ending the conversation before it could even begin. Unfortunately, Dazai had a habit of never listening to Chuuya and doing whatever she wanted, so she continued.

Dazai smiled, “we should do that again sometime. Maybe where we can move around a bit more, y’know?” She winked at Chuuya dramatically, folding her arms over her chest as she shamelessly ogled at Chuuya pulling her bra back on and buttoning up her clothes, which were crumpled and messy.

“...Maybe.”

Dazai took it as a win. There were many things she’d like to explore with Chuuya. Even just fingering Chuuya had been more enjoyable than sex with guys had. Okay, maybe she had a little bit of attraction towards women…

Dazai was dragged out of her thoughts by the sound of footsteps. The sound came from directly above them. Wait, above them? Chuuya looked at Dazai with widened eyes. As much as she’d attempted to make herself decent, she was still sweating, flushed and the aroma smelled distinctly of sex.

Grinning, Dazai yelled to the people above – they did need to be saved, after all. “Under here!” She called in a sing-song tone, praying that they could hear her underneath the rubble. Chuuya huffed and sunk back down onto her back, drained. Dazai heard one… two… Probably around ten voices outside, none of which she recognised.

She fussed with her bandages, catching a glimpse of her damp sleeve. “Messy Chuuya.” She mumbled below her breath, tutting and shaking her head.

“Ya wanna run that by me again, shitty Dazai?” Chuuya fumed, her leather-gloved hand pushing against Dazai’s arm with force that shouldn’t be possible for someone so exhausted. Dazai whined about Chuuya’s volume.

After five minutes of shifting debris and loud voices, a head peeked through a hole above the two. Although their eyes were concealed with sunglasses, Dazai still caught the person’s nose wrinkle. “...I don’t even wanna know.”

“Found them!” They yelled to the others. Someone who worked for the Mafia. Dazai hadn’t seen them before so they couldn't be that important – probably just an assistant.

Dust drifted down from the shifting beams, catching in Dazai’s lashes like glitter. She blinked it away lazily. Cursing under her breath, Chuuya twisted around to tug her coat free and crouch up through the, slowly widening, hole in the rubble.

Dazai trailed after, leisurely humming to herself in contentment. She sat on top of the splintered wood and crates for a few moments to check her appearance over in a littered piece of glass. She brushed dirt from her calf and rolled her eyes at the bandages that had been torn on her wrists.

Her reflection made her snort — hair wild, face smeared, lipstick smudged across her chin, somehow. A real beauty. She made a half hearted attempt at smoothing out her hair but gave up after the first three tries.

The low-ranking members of the mafia were chatting to each other – probably about the fact Dazai and Chuuya had been unable to complete the mission, and what they were going to do next.

A short figure strolled up to Dazai, boots clicking on the gravel. She could see Chuuya better in the clear light, sweat glistening stubbornly on her skin and dust still clinging to her jaw that Dazai was unable to remove earlier. “Stay still.” Chuuya ordered.

Her hand came up to Dazai’s hair and plucked stray pieces of wood from the strands, eyes focused intently on the task. So intent, in fact, that she didn’t notice Dazai gazing up at her with a small smile plastered on her lips. After gathering most of them, she blew the splinters from her hand and then placed it on her hip.

Dazai moved her fingers to brush at Chuuya’s jaw, making sure the remaining dirt was gone from Chuuya’s face. She was grateful for the cold wind – it gave an excuse for her undeniably flushed cheeks.

Dazai used her index finger to nudge Chuuya’s hat over her eyes and chuckled as the other woman tipped it back up and glared in response. Same old Chuuya.

“...Are they okay?” A male agent whispered to the other, gesturing to the two, usually violent, women being bizarrely unhostile with each other.

“Don’t even question it, I’d rather not know.” The other one responded, massaging his temples and beginning to stroll towards the car.
