Work Text:
Kellie had thought she won gold when she started dating Robby, he was tall, handsome and adorable. It's been a couple months now and for the most part it seemed to be going well except for one thing: she wishes he would spend less time with Jack. She knew they were close, best friends and brothers, she had even heard the rumors before they started dating. There had also been rumors surrounding Walsh and Jack as well but Jack still kept his wedding ring on and his wife had been dead for almost ten years. Hell most of the emergency department staff had warned him about the relationship between Robby and Jack but she ignored them and considered it a victory when she asked Robby out and he got all stammering and blushing before agreeing to drinks. The issue is that where her and Robby have their own dates, Robby and Jack also have their own dates. They make plans with just them to watch all types of games, right now it's Steelers and Penguins but she's heard them also talk about going to Pirates games and they go out to see stupid action movies that they make fun of and have dinner at their usual place. She has a feeling that soon she's going to have to issue an ultimatum and the stupid part of her thinks it will go her way but she was about to find out very shortly just how wrong she was.
She's walking down to talk to Robby, it's almost shift change and the schedule means that they haven't had a date in a few days so she wants to make plans because her and Robby are both off the next two days. She sees him at Central doing charts, it's at the time where night shift is coming in and first shift is just starting to do handoff so they can leave and so she walks up to him a smile on her face.
"Hey what do you think about doing a late lunch and early movie tomorrow?" She asks only for his words to stop her.
"I can't I have plans with Jack already but we can do dinner and a late movie," Robby answers.
"No I want the early lunch," she grounds out and she knows she probably shouldn't push but she does anyway.
"I told you I have plans already with Jack and we can do it later," Robby sighs like he was expecting the argument.
"Either you stop spending time with Jack or we are through," she declares thinking she's finally going to win, she sees Jack standing in shock behind Robby and she wants to see him be pushed down.
"If that's the way you feel, I'll drop anything you left at my place at your office and you can do the same for my stuff," Robby declares.
The staff of the hospital have paused to take watch, the minute they heard the ultimatum they knew it was over between the two, Robby and Jack are two halves of a whole and anyone that couldn't see that was stupid. The only two people that didn't know that Robby and Jack were in love and meant to be together were them, Dana is smirking at the woman, she was a phlebotomist from upstairs, while Santos is whispering to Mohan making another bet. Jack meanwhile has walked into something he wasn't expecting and isn't sure what to do with, he had half expected Robby to give in when faced with the ultimatum but instead he didn't. It doesn't register that she has left, Jack is still too shocked his mouth is open and he sees Shen and Parker whispering to each other now.
Robby knows that people are staring, he doesn't care and he wasn't really that into the relationship to begin with but he thought it had been him. He knows that he doesn't have anything over at hers so he won't have to wait for his stuff, he also knows that he probably shouldn't have dated Kellie knowing he was in love with his best friend but he did and she could have been a little more understanding as well. It's only once his Jack senses start going off that he knows the other man is there and he turns to find him standing there with his mouth open in shock.
"You'll catch flies if you keep doing that," Robby says his ears and neck a little pink.
Jack doesn't know what to do, Robby is just going about doing handoff like everything is normal, like he didn't just destroy his relationship for him. It does things to his heart and the feelings he has had for Robby for the past few years but it feels like something isn't sinking in, like his mind is in a fog and he has to wait for it to clear before anything becomes clear.
"Are we still on for tomorrow?" Robby asks once handoff is done.
"Yeah," Jack answers.
The rest of the night is spent with glances and looks from everyone as Jack processes what just happened, finally the fog lifts. He realizes that he is Robby's number one priority and if that doesn't do things to him he doesn't know what would. He feels himself start to blush when he starts imagining different ways he could be Robby's number one priority and when Dana comes in she gives him a look like she's waiting.
"I want to date Robby," he whispers to her.
"Honey you already were. The only people that hadn't caught up were you and him," Dana declares surprising him.
Jack is in a daze when Dana pats his shoulder as she walks off and the daze doesn't lift not even once he gets home. He has time for a small nap, wakes up ready to get food from their favorite Chinese restaurant and see a stupid disaster movie when the thought that this is a date come into his mind. He flashes back to the other times they spent together and the way he always got ready, the way it seemed like Robby took the time to get ready and dress up nice and realizes what an idiot he's been. The knock on his door indicates that Robby has arrived to pick him up and isn't that just another indication about them dating, Jack suddenly feels a fire burn through him and he throws his door open to see Robby standing there dressed in a black button down blushing and he can't wait anymore.
"You threw away an entire relationship for me so just fucking stop me if I'm wrong about this," Jack tells him as he yanks him inside.
Jack has yanked Robby inside and slammed the door closed before finally he lunges at the other man. He puts his all into kissing the man feeling his beard under his mouth and he's honestly not expecting much or for it to have been reciprocated but then he feels hands gripping his waist and Robby kissing him back.
"You don't know what it did to me to be your number one priority," Jack says out of breath once he's pulled back.
"You've always been my number one priority," Robby says like it shouldn't be a surprise.
Jack shakes his head but this time he's being spun and slammed against the wall as Robby kisses him like he's trying to devour him. He wraps his arms around the taller man when he's unceremoniously lifted up and he thinks that if he had to be responsible for a relationship blowing up at least it's because he's someone's number one priority and at least it's with Robby. And if the staff had fun making even more bets after all this then so be it.
