Chapter Text
I awoke on some sort of furnishing that resembled a bench with very large cushions covering the seat and back. I was wrapped in a warm blanket and my injury from the gunshot seemed to be more or less healed. I felt a hand caress my cheek. My eyes fluttered open. A very well dressed man stood over me, in his maroon eyes I saw nothing but concern for my wellbeing. When he saw that I had awakened he greeted me with a “Good morning” his voice sounded different from many of the people I had met in my short life, I guessed he was from one of the countries northeast of Switzerland, Russia perhaps. “Tell me, how did you end up unconscious in the middle of the woods with a bullet in your arm?” He asked. “I saved a small child from drowning and her father thought I was attacking her so he shot me.” I answered. I did not give away too many details, I did not want him to fear me, if this man could heal me he could probably destroy me, especially in this weakened state. “I’m sure there’s more you have yet to tell me.” He said. “And why should I tell thee?” said I “Thou hath yet to gain my trust.” “How can I earn your trust?” He asked. “What is thy name?” I asked. “Doctor Hannibal Lecter.” He replied “and you are?” “An abhorrent fiend, a vile wretch, a curse upon mankind, the result of the hubris of one Doctor Victor Frankenstein!” “I was asking about your name.” said Doctor Lecter. “A name was the first thing my creator deprived me of.” said I. “You use the word creator, why do you not refer to him as your father?” The Doctor asked. “I was not born from his seed and he hath not claimed me as his son yet he was the one who imbued my menagerie of dead flesh with the spark of life.” I explained. “And then he left you to suffer alone, how very rude of him.” Said the Doctor “If we are to continue this amicable relationship, dare I say friendship, it would be prudent for you to have a name.” “Luckily I had the foresight to think of names for myself in the event that someone were to accept me into society.” I replied. “Well my friend, let’s hear them.” Doctor Lecter said urging me to continue. “Art thou familiar with John Milton’s poem ‘Paradise Lost’?” I asked. “Yes, I am quite familiar with it, one could even say I am well acquainted with it.” Lecter said with smile. “I quite enjoyed the poem,” said I, “I felt a sort of kinship with both Adam and Lucifer, I was meant to be something like Adam to Frankenstein, a kind of treasured creation; yet he made me his Lucifer, rejected and cast out of heaven by no fault of my own.” “God is matchless in his irony and wanton in his malice, and we are but victims of his cruelty.” Doctor Lecter mused. “Drawing from Milton I have found a name for myself.” said I. “Oh, go on.” The Doctor urged. “For my Christian name I chose Adam, but I wanted something to do with Lucifer, unfortunately humans find sharing a name with the devil to be socially unacceptable, thus I have shortened it to Lou and used it as my middle name, I’m still unsure about a surname as I do not wish to use my creator’s surname as I hath rejected him.” I explained. “Why not use my name?” Doctor Lecter suggested. “I couldn’t do that, thou hath healed my wounds and provided me companionship, it would be most unfair for me to repay thee by stealing thy name.” I replied. “Then let me give you my name, let me welcome you into my family.” said The Doctor. “I was unaware thou had a family.” I said. “I didn’t think it was relevant to bring them up in our conversations.” He replied. “What is thy family like?” I asked. “You’ll see soon enough.” said Doctor Lecter or rather my new guardian.
