Chapter 1: Strangers: Arrival
Notes:
Hey guys! This is my first attempt at writing a fic in the Stardew Valley universe :)
I got really inspired by other Haley-related stories, and with Kinktober going on, I decided to do a little multi-chapter one myself.
It’s heavily focused on Haley’s and Avery’s (the female farmer's) arcs throughout the years, showing different stages of their relationship.
As you can probably tell from the tags, it’s going to be very smut-heavy, because I just love writing and exploring it. But I’m also a sucker for tension, so I couldn’t write porn without plot, lmao.
The story is divided into stages: Strangers, Friends, Lovers and Wives with several chapters within each.
There will be a few time skips, but I hope their development still feels coherent and rewarding enough!
Enjoy <3
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Taking a leap of faith like that was a risk she was usually not willing to take. But she knew that otherwise her job and this goddamn depressing city would eat her alive someday. She didn’t even know how she had managed to survive that long at the Joja Corporation, which had been sucking her soul out of her body day by day.
She felt like a robot, a cog in some bigger machine without any purpose whatsoever. Zuzu City wasn’t bad per se, but it hadn’t treated her very well either. Anonymous faces, superficial friendships, dull personalities – and another broken heart every month. Everyone who lived there was running away from something.
And she didn’t want to run anymore. She wanted to finally arrive. Somewhere.
The bus was relatively empty; most of the people had already gotten off at earlier stops. At least the view outside the window was beautiful. With every turn, the landscape grew more rural, more peaceful, less artificial.
She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes, leaning her head against the window. She must be arriving soon, but at least she could take a nap until then.
Unfortunately, her rumbling phone interrupts her wallowing.
“Hey?”
“Avery, sweetheart. How are you? Are you going to arrive soon?”
“Hey, Mom. I’m a little tired, but fine overall. I think Pelican Town is about three stops away.”
She smiles to herself. If it hadn’t been for her parents, she wouldn’t have had the courage to leave her miserable old life behind.
“That’s good, sweetheart. We just wanted to check in and wish you the best.”
“Thank you, Mom. I really appreciate it.” She sighs, taking in the view outside the window.
“We know you’ll build a beautiful life there, Avery. Grandpa always liked Pelican Town, I’m sure you will too. And never forget that you’re always welcome to come back. We’ll support you either way.”
Great. Now she is crying on the bus. At least there is no one around to notice. And crying happy tears was something she hadn’t done for a long time, so she takes it gratefully this time.
“I really love you guys. Thank you for everything,” she sniffs.
The squeaking of the bus wheels draws Avery’s attention back to the road outside. The sign is huge and impossible to miss. It is kind of funny to have that for such a small village.
“I’ll call you later, okay? I’m there.”
“Of course! Keep us updated, darling. Bye!”
Avery hangs up the phone just as she steps out of the bus. The breezy, fresh air brushes against her face, filling her whole body with a new sensation.
Here goes nothing.
The door of her room slams open with a loud rumble as she stomps her way to the kitchen.
“Emily! Are you home?”
“Yes! I’m just making a sandwich for my shift.” She smiles, turning her gaze towards Haley as she packs her lunch into her bag.
“Can’t you just eat at the saloon?” Haley shoots back, crossing her arms.
“Well, yes. But Gus isn’t too fond of putting it on his tab, because, you know…”
“Because of the town drunk? Although she’s surely not the only one – we have several of them.”
“Haley!” Emily says in disbelief, tilting her head slightly.
“What? Am I lying?”
Emily scoffs but ignores the snarky comment, making her way to the door.
“What did you want anyway?” She asks one last time before opening it.
“Have you seen my blue purse? I’m sure I lent it to you several days ago.”
“Urgh, Haley. I gave it back to you the same day. Just look for it yourself, I’m not getting late because of a purse.” Emily groans, disappearing through the door and clicking it shut behind her.
“Bitch,” Haley grumbles under her breath.
It doesn’t matter; she is just meeting Alex, and he clearly doesn’t give a shit about which purse she’d choose.
Sometimes she wonders why she was stuck here in this depressing, lame-ass, boring village.
Chopping trees was something Avery had never imagined doing in her life. But there she is, trying to clear her newly owned property with her bare hands. As grateful as she is for what her grandpa had left behind, the work is already getting into her core. It’s fucking exhausting.
And yet, it’s weirdly liberating. After all, she is chopping trees with her bare hands and an axe.
As she picks up the wood planks, a smile plasters across her face. Memories of her arrival a week ago floods her mind.
Robin and Mayor Lewis had been so welcoming and kind, helping her get the best start she could in her new home. And Marnie had blessed her with the cutest dog to ever exist – Basil.
He was not only running around Avery all day, getting occasional pets and treats, but he also made her house feel more like a home and less lonely.
“You’re a good boy,” she says, petting him right between the ears.
His little ‘woofs’ and tail wiggles fill her chest with warmth.
Maybe it had been the right decision to come here after all. She felt more at ease after a week here than she had in the last two years. And not even her sore body could wash away the contentment she felt when she harvested her first self-grown parsnips.
Nevertheless, her body gives up on her earlier than the days before. And she still hadn’t met all the villagers, which Robin and Lewis had encouraged her to do.
“I’ll be back soon, Basil.” Avery gently rubs his head before leaving towards the town center.
Alex chews down on his cherry and spits the pit out with a force that almost makes it land in the fountain in front of them.
“You’re so fucking gross,” Haley groans, crossing her legs on the bench.
“And yet you still hang out with me everyday,” he says, his gaze unbothered as he leans back into the bench, crossing his arms behind his head.
“I guess we’re both losers then.”
“I wouldn't consider myself a loser. But at least you're pretty.” He grins.
“Oh god, shut the fuck up.” Haley shoots back, furrowing her brows.
They hold their gaze like that for a second before bursting into laughter. Alex is an idiot, but she is really grateful to have him as a friend – as strange as it sounds. They’d known each other since they both moved to Pelican Town.
They got along quickly, gossiping about everyone and talking about the latest fashion trends. Back then, they even had an on-and-off thing. Not just because they both felt lonely, but because they had both been deep in the closet. Looking back, it was ridiculous how obvious it had been. Despite it being a bumpy road, it luckily hadn’t damaged their friendship.
Somehow, it brought them even closer. Sharing their secret feelings might’ve helped with that – and so did the lack of parents, even if it was in different ways.
“Have you heard about the new girl who moved to Pelican Town a week ago? Apparently, she inherited that big wasteland next to Cindersap Forest,” Alex says, spitting another cherry pit into the fountain this time. Haley can’t believe she really thought she was attracted to men, ever.
“Yes, I heard. Haven’t seen her once. And that place is so overgrown, I bet she won’t last long before she leaves again.” Haley isn’t sure what to think of it – but she doesn’t really care either.
One girl surely won’t turn the whole town around.
“Hey, I think that’s her.” Alex points towards the town square.
The farmer is standing next to Demetrius, taking in his rambling like she actually does give a shit about it.
She’s close enough for Haley to see that she really looks like a boring, replaceable and nothing-new-to-add kind of girl.
“God, and here I was hoping she’d at least be eye candy,” Haley huffs, inspecting her acrylic nails instead.
“You really are a bitch, Haley.” Alex laughs, nudging her shoulder.
“Someone has to stick to their reputation, after all,” she mumbles in response.
Haley turns her gaze back to the farmer, watching her walk away towards the town center. Her fashion sense is really below freezing point.
At least she will have something to gossip about with Alex in the near future.

Chapter Text
After two weeks of settling in on her grandpa’s farm, she feels something she hasn’t felt in a long time – pride.
Not only had she cleared all the trees, weeds, and fiber off the property, she’d also set up a pretty decent field with various crops. And to her surprise – they paid off just as decently.
At this speed, she was going to have very successful seasons ahead of her. She would surely be able to afford a barn or a coop by winter.
As she steps outside the door, she takes a moment to look over her farm from the porch.
Damn, this is really fucking amazing.
Not only her farm, but the town as well. So far, the people had mostly been very kind – besides Shane, maybe. Befriending miserable men is something she’s not interested in anyway, even if she does feel sorry for him somehow.
The people of Pelican Town were interesting and very different from each other. Still, they had a sense of community, which Avery didn’t even know she’d missed so deeply in her previous years.
“Basil, we’re going to have a good life here, I can feel it.” She tilts her head towards her dog, petting him gently.
It’s almost noon when Avery finally makes her way to the town center to get some seeds from Pierre’s shop. He does have the best crops she can get at the moment, but at the same time, she kind of despises him.
Avery can smell money-hungry, self-centered, egotistical men from miles away. At least one good thing her miserable job had taught her well. She didn’t even know he had a family until Caroline mentioned it. What a jerk.
The sun rays warm her skin as she steps out of the small alley that connects the center with her farm. Just before reaching the shop, she sees a girl at the bulletin board, pinning a “Help Wanted” poster to it.
Avery is more than sure she hasn’t met her before, she definitely would remember that. Because – damn.
This woman is gorgeous.
Long, shimmering blonde hair, skin that looks like it’s been kissed by the sun more than once, and ocean-blue eyes. She’s not close enough to inspect all of her features, but even from a distance, those eyes shine brighter than the burning ball of heat above her.
Avery slowly approaches the bulletin board, suddenly very interested in what she needs help with.
“I think we haven’t met yet,” Avery says, eyeing her from the side.
The girl turns her head as those stunning eyes pierce through Avery’s. Her gaze seems unbothered, and the wrinkles on her nose make Avery think she might even look disgusted.
“Oh, you’re the new farmer girl,” she says, crossing her arms.
“Seems so. Name’s Avery.” Her confidence is real, even though her heart hammers in her ribcage.
“Figured. I could smell the dirt on you from miles away,” the girl shoots back.
Avery can’t help but smirk. So she doesn’t want to play nice, huh? Nothing Avery hasn’t dealt with before.
“Well, working on a farm does that to you,” Avery says, sliding her hands into her pockets.
The girl’s eyes wander, scanning her from top to bottom.
“So are you just going to insult me or tell me your name?”
“Haley,” she says quickly, turning back towards the board. Avery’s impressed by how effortlessly she pins the poster down with those long, pastel-pink nails.
Avery steps closer, despite smelling like dirt; because she really doesn’t give a shit; letting her eyes wander over the bulletin.
“You need quartz?” Avery huffs, trying to hold in her laugh. Why would a girl like her need that?
“What? It’s none of your business,” Haley hisses, furrowing her brows as she pins the last edge down.
“Well, it’s my business if I can offer it, isn’t it?” Avery fiddles in her pocket, slowly pulling out a ball of quartz just the size of her palm.
Haley’s shoulders drop and she relaxes her previously crossed arms.
Got you.
Haley hums, clearly trying to say something but dropping it. This banter is way too enjoyable. Two can play that game.
Avery slowly rotates the mineral between her fingers, inspecting it like a rare gem. Haley’s conflicted face in her periphery sends a jolt through Avery’s stomach.
It’s taking her way too long to decide.
Avery tosses the stone up in the air, catching it seconds later before slipping it back into her pocket.
She turns her gaze back to those blue eyes in front of her, the corner of her lips curling into a smirk.
“Urgh, fine,” Haley finally snaps.
Got you. Again.
Avery’s smirk spreads wider across her face. She’s not going to let this go easily.
“Hm, I think I’ve changed my mind,” Avery hums.
Haley’s cheeks redden in frustration, clearly contemplating what to do now. After a few seconds, she takes out some gold coins.
“Don’t be a brat,” she says, raising her palm towards Avery, offering the coins.
“You’re one to talk,” Avery laughs, hands still buried in her pockets.
Avery isn’t sure how long their stare-down lasts, each one waiting for the other to give in.
Moving her fingers forward slowly, she picks up the coins from Haley’s hand. One by one, taking her sweet, sweet time.
Haley looks like she’s about to explode any second. This is just too good.
Fiddling in her pockets for that long was absolutely unnecessary, but Avery bravely keeps up the act to the very end.
She drops the quartz into Haley’s open palm.
“Nice doing business with you, Haley.” Her evil smirk grows.
A low growl escapes Haley’s mouth despite her hardest attempts to suppress it. Those red cheeks look very cute on her.
Without a word, Haley rips the poster from the bulletin board and stomps down towards the town center.
Avery giggles all the way to Pierre’s shop.
Haley storms into her house on 2 Willow Lane like a fireball.
What the hell was that?
She should’ve avoided the new farmer girl, like she had for the last two weeks. She knew she meant trouble, she knew she’d walk around town like she owned it.
She knew she’d be unbearable.
And she fucking knew she’d be attractive up close.
What she didn’t know was that this girl had an attitude straight out of hell. Admittedly, she wasn’t the friendliest either – she knows that.
Haley thought she’d just scare her away. But instead, she’d done the opposite; shooting back without hesitation.
And fuck, that made her even more attractive.
Haley flops onto her bed headfirst and groans into her pillow.
“She still dresses like it’s the 80s,” Haley mumbles to herself.
It’s true. But it does fit her…
Stop it.
This is not happening. Haley and Avery are so different from one another, at least two oceans dividing them.
She just has to keep being the rude, unbearable girl she’s always been. In no time, Avery will back off by herself.
Haley sits up, pulling the piece of quartz out of her pocket. She rotates it; the setting sun’s rays from her window break as they hit the stone.
At least this is a decent mineral to craft a necklace for Emily’s birthday.
She doesn’t waste any time and plants the seeds from Pierre’s shop minutes after buying them. Luckily, he didn’t bother her with his sales talk this time. Even if he had, Avery’s mind is somewhere else entirely anyway.
Haley certainly left an impression on her, she can’t deny that. She clearly doesn’t give a fuck about starting off on the right foot with her.
Avery knows girls like that all too well – seemingly untouchable, rude, keeping a perfect façade.
Well, only until it breaks.
After all, barking dogs don’t bite.
Avery should let it go. It’s not worth the trouble, especially now that she’s settling in comfortably in Pelican Town.
Unfortunately, Avery loves challenges. Especially when they wear high heels and lip gloss.
The weeks pass in the blink of an eye. Avery is so busy she sometimes forgets what day it is and accidentally visits Pierre’s shop on Wednesdays. She gets up, takes care of the crops, goes fishing, sometimes mining. She wakes up at 6 a.m., passes out at midnight.
It’s draining, and she really needs a break. Luckily, the last festival of spring is right ahead of her – the Flower Dance. Avery has no clue what to expect, but she glams up anyway. She has a pretty decent suit for occasions like this: dark brown, perfectly fitted, even though she’s gained some muscle from farm work. Her shirt beneath it is beige, and her bow tie is the same color as the rest of the suit. Even though Avery prefers ordinary ties, she thinks the bow fits better. She even leaves her beloved bucket hat behind, letting her long curls fall freely. It’s called the ‘Flower Dance’ after all – they’re supposed to look cute, aren’t they?
This day is the only one worth living in Pelican Town for. Being Flower Queen and having all eyes on her sends butterflies through Haley’s stomach.
The participants slowly gather in line, with the onlookers assembling around them as well. The fresh scent of food and flowers tickles her nose – she can’t wait to shine on stage in just a few minutes.
“So, Flower Queen, hm?” A familiar voice calls from behind her. It’s been a while since she’s heard it; she almost forgot about her. At least that’s what she’s been telling herself.
“Yes, the one and only.” Haley turns around, unbothered, eyeing the farmer girl in front of her.
Shit, she looks stunning.
Never in a million years would Haley have thought that Avery had a wardrobe like that – a perfectly fitted suit, beige-brown, with a bow that makes her look like a present waiting to be unwrapped.
Haley quickly shakes her thoughts away.
“Avery, was it, right? I keep forgetting,” she says, gaze unbothered, even though she can’t help but let her eyes wander a bit.
The woman in front of her bursts out in laughter. Haley’s chest tightens. What the fuck is she laughing at?
“Don’t act like you forgot my name.” Avery smirks as she comes down from her laughter, wiping the corners of her eyes.
“Don’t flatter yourself,” Haley tries to shoot back, but her cheeks are burning, and she hates it.
“Whatever you say, your highness.” Avery says in a firm, mocking tone and dramatically bows to Haley.
Haley groans and turns away to line up with the dance participants. She’s not going to deal with that crap today – she needs to stay focused.
As the first strings of music start, Haley is laser-focused again, her moves running on autopilot. She swings her hips, lets Alex guide her around him. His smirk fills Haley’s chest with pride – they are by far the best dancers here, stealing the show in mere seconds.
After a couple of minutes, the dance is over. It’s a short pleasure, unfortunately, but the clapping and cheering send Haley to cloud nine.
“An immaculate Flower Dance, just as every year!” Mayor Lewis chants as he officially concludes the dance.
“Feel free to head to the food and drink stands, enjoy yourselves,” he adds.
The townsfolk mingle – they dance, drink, and eat until the sun slowly starts to meet the horizon.
Some people leave, but most of Pelican Town still lingers, which warms Haley’s heart.
“We nailed it,” Alex says, standing next to Haley and chewing a snack from the bar.
“As always.” Haley smiles, taking a sip of her champagne.
“Well, I thought maybe this year would be the first time you’d step on my toes,” he laughs, his mouth still full.
“What? Why?”
“Because I think a certain farmer girl is distracting you, since you came back from your chat with cheeks redder than my rugby vest,” he says bluntly.
“I’m not distracted, stop talking nonsense.” Haley grumbles, crossing her arms.
“Then why were you undressing her with your eyes for the past few minutes?”
Haley gulps. She didn’t even notice she’d been staring at Avery for that long. She turns to face Alex and sighs.
“Okay, maybe I was looking. She looks better than usual.” She empties her glass.
“Women in suits really do it for you, huh?” Alex’s shit-eating grin is starting to piss Haley off.
“Urgh, stop it, Alex. I don’t even like her. I don’t know why she keeps talking to me.”
“Maybe she likes you, somehow.” He hums.
Why would she? I gave her nothing to like about me.
“She’s coming, by the way.” He interrupts Haley’s wallowing, and as she turns around, Avery is already standing in front of her.
“Congratulations, that was really impressive,” Avery grins, sliding her hands into the pockets of her suit trousers.
“Thanks, I hope you enjoyed your first Flower Dance,” Alex replies, opening a beer bottle.
“I very much did,” Avery says, her eyes not glancing at Alex’s for a second, only resting on Haley.
“I’ll leave you to it,” he chuckles, making his way over to Sam’s friend group.
Haley and Avery somehow fall into another stare-down, neither of them saying a word.
Haley is confused. Stressed. Fucking frustrated. Why does she keep talking to me?
She can’t hold it in any longer.
“Why are you still coming up to me, Avery?” she blurts out.
To her surprise, it’s the first time since they’ve met that Avery’s smug face fades. Her hands slip out of her pockets, her brows furrow slightly. She almost looks… sad.
“Do you really hate me that much?” she mumbles, her eyes still locked with Haley’s.
She should swallow her pride. Get a fucking grip, stop her stupid act. She could just talk to her like a normal person would – friendly chatter.
She doesn’t know why, but she can’t.
“Yes, I don’t fucking like you, read the room, Avery! You walk around like you own the whole village. I don’t care about your farm, I don’t care about your dog, I don’t care about you. Just fucking leave me alone.”
That’s it.
Haley reached her stupid self-fulfilled prophecy. She finally showed Avery the real Haley – the one that ruins things. The one that can’t cope with herself and lets it out on others.
Others who are better than her, more successful, more confident, more honest, more deserving.
Avery’s whole body freezes, her usual confidence replaced with confusion. She looks shaken to her core, broken even.
“Okay,” she finally breathes out quietly.
“I won’t bother you again.”
And with that, Avery turns around. She heads straight towards the alley leading to her farm without saying goodbye to anyone. Her head shakes in disbelief on the way back, rubbing the back of her neck.
Usually, Haley would just walk over to Alex. Gossip, talk about how proud she is of keeping up her bitchy reputation, putting people in their place.
She thought she’d finally feel better about her conflicting emotions.
But instead, she swallows her tears.

Chapter Text
Avery wakes up with a huge headache in the morning. It’s been a week since the Flower Dance, and it still sticks deep in her bones.
Luckily, her coffee pot is already rumbling on the stovetop. Maybe it’ll help.
When she first met Haley, she knew the banter and teasing would be fun. Challenging her and not backing off from her rude attitude was something Avery enjoyed, maybe even a little too much. She had expected it wouldn’t get too serious, maybe even thought it was somehow flirtatious. Maybe they would even get along someday, like Avery did with basically everyone in town by now. The townspeople liked her, and she usually got along with everyone – even if she wouldn’t be friends with all of them.
What really rattled her core were the things Haley said last week. Because what she didn’t expect was for Haley to actually hate her. It hadn’t even crossed her mind.
And she feels so fucking stupid for that.
Because she doesn’t hate Haley – even if she feels like she should, at least after their last encounter.
What bothers her even more is the fact that she just can’t let it go. She wishes she didn’t give a shit, that she could go on with her day normally. She has enough on her plate after all.
She waters her crops, until Haley’s words echo in her mind again. She crafts new tools or fences, until blue eyes flash in front of her vision. She digs further into the mines, gathering resources, until a silhouette in a skirt appears in her periphery. She catches fish down at the beach, until a shrill laughter rings in her ears.
Avery feels like she’s going crazy – obsessed, even. But mostly just fucking mad and hurt.
Hurt because the arrogant princess of Pelican Town doesn’t like her. God, that’s pathetic.
Avery empties her mug and takes a deep breath. Maybe she can fish by the river down at Cindersap Forest today. Usually, it’s peaceful there, the only person passing by is Leah. And she surely isn’t a pain in her ass.
Avery packs her fishing rod and her bait. Fishing eases her mind, slowing space and time a little.
As she steps outside onto the porch, she breathes in the air and lets the rays of sun warm her skin. The switch from spring to summer really came quick — the temperatures are already rising in Pelican Town.
Maybe she’ll get lucky today and catch a rare fish. It would certainly raise her mood.
Avery sighs internally and makes her way down to the river.
The lighting is perfect today, with not a single cloud covering the sky. Especially with the sun setting over the river, the colors of the burning sky blend into the landscape like a painting.
Haley smiles in satisfaction as she clicks through her photos from the past hour. Landscape photos aren’t even her favorite compositions, but this time she’s really outdone herself.
The magazine that hired her for this job should at least be satisfied with one of them, if not with every single one.
It would be a good starting point to get her name out there, build a portfolio, and get some attention along the way.
Being specialized in certain areas as a photographer is usually the best route you could take, but Haley does have a good eye in a lot of areas – analog, digital, landscape, portraits, you name it.
Hell, she could even take photos of animals, weddings, or architecture, and they’d still turn out great. Maybe that’ll get her to fashion photography someday.
Emily believed in her; she just has to learn to trust in herself too.
Someday.
Haley inhales deeply, taking in the fresh air of the first summer days, and returns to the route to her home.
I took 150 photos, there has to be something they like in there.
Spiraling in her storming thoughts, she almost misses the junction at Leah’s house. Luckily, she looks up from her camera just in time.
But instead of the signpost, she meets a pair of dark brown eyes – ones she was desperately trying to forget for the past week.
Fuck.
Avery’s cold gaze sends shivers down her spine, piercing through her like she could turn her into stone any second. And Haley surely feels like that – her body freezes, clutching her camera like it could save her.
Haley’s breath gets stuck in her throat. If she doesn’t breathe or say something soon, she might pass out on the spot.
“Hey,” she manages.
Avery’s gaze doesn’t change; she doesn’t even flinch. She furrows her brows slightly, turning her eyes to the ground, lips in a thin line.
The knuckles of her hand turn white as she grabs her fishing rod tighter.
And with that, she passes Haley without a single word.
She isn’t sure what she expected. Of course Avery wouldn’t have a friendly chat with her after everything she said.
Haley makes her way back home, her thoughts racing in circles with every step. Until now, she’d managed to successfully push them away.
But seeing Avery, seeing the effects of what she’d done – puts a crack in her heart.
She’s an idiot.
Usually, she would storm into her room, slam doors, scream into her pillow or something. But her fueling rage is gone – replaced by something heavier, something that sinks her whole body into the ground.
She drags herself to the kitchen.
Just before reaching the kitchenette, she stops behind Emily.
After a few seconds, her sister registers her, slowly turning around.
“Haley?” she says, voice full of concern.
Haley doesn’t answer. Instead, her arms wrap around Emily’s waist, and she buries her face in the crook of her neck, letting her tears flow like waterfalls.
Emily holds her close in her embrace, gently brushing her back. As different as they are, Haley would never wish for another sister – Emily understands her without words.
They stand like this for a while, patiently waiting out the rush of emotions.
“Come, let’s sit,” Emily finally says, grabbing Haley’s hand and leading her to the living room.
“I think I know what this is about, but you can tell me everything when you’re ready.” She smiles, gently wiping Haley’s tears from her cheeks.
Haley inhales deeply. She hates being vulnerable. But she knows keeping this inside will eat her alive.
“I fucked up,” she manages.
“Well, that’s nothing new. You’ll have to be more specific,” Emily chuckles.
“Urgh, Emily,” Haley groans, though she knows there’s no turning back now.
She gathers her courage to finally speak her mind for the first time in weeks.
“I said some terrible things to Avery,” she breathes out, tears already collecting in the corners of her eyes again.
Emily hums softly, brushing her hand through Haley’s hair.
“I know you’re a little impulsive sometimes, not thinking before you speak. I just wonder… why.”
“I don’t know. It’s just something about her…” Haley sniffs.
“Hm…” Emily mumbles.
“…can I tell you what I think?”
“Can I stop you?” Haley chuckles weakly.
“No.” Emily laughs, squeezing Haley’s hand.
“I think you admire her.”
Haley turns her confused gaze towards her sister.
“She’s confident, which throws you off balance because you’re usually the confident one – or at least you pretend to be.” She winks, still with soft eyes.
Wow, right in the heart, sister.
“She’s independent and brave, working her grandfather’s farm with zero experience. She took matters into her own hands, trying to turn her life around. That’s admirable, but it’s also intimidating, because she’s solid in herself – like a rock.” Emily laughs, and Haley can’t help but notice how much she knows about Avery.
“Are you in love with her or something?” Haley huffs, trying to hide how her sister just read her like an open book.
“No, I just took the time to talk to her. She’s really nice. And you know I already have my partner. I’m not looking.” Emily smiles, suppressing another laugh.
“Actually…” she says, suddenly more serious.
“She might be more of a candidate for you.” Emily smirks. God, Haley hates and loves her at the same time.
“Stop it!” Haley shoves Emily away, making her laugh for real this time.
“I’m just saying – whatever happens, you have to make amends with her. You can’t really avoid each other in a small town. You know?”
“I know…” Haley finally says, her gaze dropping to the floor.
“Sis, I love you. And even though you’re a pain in the ass sometimes, you’re a really good person. It pains me to see that you hide from others, never showing them how kind-hearted you are. You don’t deserve that, and neither does Avery.” Emily rarely looks at Haley like that, but when she does it’s meaningful.
“How do you always manage to comfort and confront me at the same time?” Haley smiles faintly.
“Perks of being the older one, I guess,” Emily laughs, releasing Haley’s hand.
“But am I wrong?”
“No…”
“Then you better get her the good sweet grape wine she likes and apologize properly.”
Emily stands up from the couch and takes a bottle from their little winery, holding it out to Haley.
“Fine,” she says, taking it as her stomach twists.
What the fuck am I doing?
Standing on the porch of someone who probably won’t even talk to her. Understandably.
“You should take responsibility for your actions, bla bla,” Haley mutters to herself.
She inhales deeply, filling her lungs with air.
Throwing up on Avery’s porch seems more likely than actually managing to knock.
She tilts her head slightly to peek through the window. The lights are on, so she’s definitely home.
God, why is this so difficult? Just knock, apologize, give her the bottle, and leave.
Haley holds her breath; her heart hammers so hard it might burst out of her chest.
Then, she finally knocks.
It feels like an eternity before she hears footsteps slowly approaching.
Haley desperately fights the instinct to run away right now.
But before she can do that the door opens.
Avery’s confused, guarded gaze makes her want to return to the idea of running away.
“Uhm, hey,” Haley stutters, barely keeping eye contact.
“What do you want?” Avery’s voice is cold as ice.
“I, uh… I talked to my sister, and she wanted me to apologize, so that’s why I’m here.”
That’s the most fucking stupid thing she could’ve said. And yet, it’s all that comes out.
Avery’s stony expression doesn’t change. Instead, she slowly closes the door.
“Wait!” Haley blurts, pressing her hand against it.
“Please…” Oh, great, now she’s begging. That’s a new low.
“Just give me five minutes. Then I’ll never bother you again. I promise.” This time, Haley means it, even if she has to hold back her tears.
Avery hums low, clearly contemplating. After a moment, she opens the door wider and turns inside without a word.
As Haley steps inside, closing the door behind her, she can’t help but look around. It’s really cozy.
The cottage is made out of different wood types – darker on the floor and lighter on the walls. The warm light bulbs across the rooms embed the soft atmosphere.
Haley spots some pictures in the hallway, but they’re too far away to make out what’s on them. She follows Avery to her living room; the warm colors continue to spread across the couch and the fireplace. That must be heaven during the cold seasons.
Avery’s crossed arms and turned-away gaze snap her out of her observation.
Right, she’s here for a reason.
Haley slowly sits herself down next to Avery, trying to create a distance that’s not too far and not too close.
She fiddles with the wine bottle for a little too long. Before she can rub off the label, she puts it on the side table in front of them.
“Emily said it’s your favourite,” she finally says, mourning having nothing to fiddle with anymore.
Avery glances at the bottle for a second before turning her gaze to Haley. Her eyes paint so much sorrow, and in this moment Haley fully realizes how much she must have hurt her.
Haley feels her vision blurring, the lump in her throat growing into something unbearable.
“I’m sorry, Avery,” she finally blurts out.
Avery’s face is still unreadable. Haley really has to let everything out, or she’s going to throw up for sure.
As Haley’s tears fall without control, her words follow on their own.
“I know what I said really hurt you. It was unfair,” she continues with a shaky breath.
“I can’t take it back now, even though I didn’t really mean it.”
“You didn’t mean it?” Avery finally speaks for the first time this evening. She buries her fingers in the fabric of her flannel shirt, her posture stiff.
“I…” Haley stumbles over her own tongue.
She wipes her tears slowly. She doesn’t know how to make this right. Maybe she should leave. But the least she can do is say everything she needs to say.
“I don’t hate you. It’s the opposite, and I apparently have a fucked-up way of showing it.” She can’t look into Avery’s eyes anymore. She drifts her gaze towards the cutest dog she’s ever seen in her life.
“I don’t hate your dog – he’s fucking adorable. I don’t hate your farm – it’s the most impressive thing I’ve seen in this goddamn village.” Haley finally gathers her courage to look into Avery’s eyes again.
“You did nothing wrong. I was thrown off by your confidence and the way you carry yourself. But that’s a me problem, not a you problem.” She holds their gaze for a moment. Something in Avery’s eyes softens, her shoulders slowly relaxing.
“I don’t expect you to like me or to forgive me. I totally understand if you don’t want to have anything to do with me. But you deserve an apology – and I really mean it.” Haley breathes in for the first time since her rambling.
“I shouldn’t judge people before I get to know them. I know that now. I want to try to be better.” Haley breathes out.
Avery is silent. Her eyes pierce into Haley’s as if she’s trying to find more answers.
“I think I’d better leave. I embarrassed myself enough.” Haley chuckles, even though she might start crying again.
She retreats from the couch and turns towards the hallway. Before taking the first step, she feels Avery’s hand around her wrist.
“Wait,” she says, her voice firm.
Haley can’t see her right now, and still, her heart is doing gymnastics in her rib cage.
She turns around as Avery lets go of her wrist.
They’re closer than they’ve ever been before. Avery seems to notice that as well, taking one step back, still piercing her eyes into Haley’s.
“I believe you. And I appreciate your honesty.” She smiles.
This smile must be the most beautiful she’s ever seen.
Haley smiles back, her whole body relaxing in relief.
This time their stare-down doesn’t feel loaded or tense; it feels lighter. Just filled with thousands of questions.
“If you want, you can stay for a while. The wine’s too good not to share.” Avery chuckles slightly, rubbing the back of her neck. Fuck, she’s adorable.
“Well, lucky for you, I like sweet drinks.” Haley giggles with newfound courage.
“Lucky for me? Look who’s confident now.” Avery smiles, crossing her arms.
“I promised to be nice, but I’m still a bitch deep inside.” Haley shoots back, making her way around Avery to flop onto the couch again.
“I can see that.” Avery laughs as she takes two wine glasses out of the display case in her living room.
She opens the bottle with a pop and pours the wine inside.
“To making up, I guess.” Avery smiles, clinking her glass against Haley’s.
“I’ll cheer to that.” Haley says, taking a sip of her wine.
“That’s really good! Didn’t expect that.”
“Why, because of my horrendous taste?” Avery smirks, putting her glass back down on the table.
“You’ll never let that one go, huh?” Haley smirks back.
“You put that on yourself, princess.” Avery’s smirk grows insufferable again in just mere seconds.
But this time, Haley doesn’t want to punch her.
This time, she’d rather kiss that smirk off Avery’s face.

Chapter Text
Somehow, Avery’s first summer rushed past her even faster than spring. She was more productive than ever before: her crop fields were huge, and she had finally managed to fully automate the sprinkler system. The money was good, too, making it possible to upgrade her house a little.
On top of that, she finally built the barn and the coop she’d always wanted. The chickens, cows, and pigs brought a smile to her face every day.
And of course, Avery was already thinking about automating the coop and the barn as well – especially before winter. The townspeople had told her that the cold season was pretty rough in Pelican Town. She had decided to visit her family for at least two weeks during winter; she missed them, and spending cold, dark nights alone in her cabin was something she wasn’t ready for yet.
Luckily, Marnie was a sweetheart and agreed to take care of Basil and the other animals, which eased Avery’s mind.
But one step at a time – there was still a month of fall ahead. And she really did look forward to that. Because, well, a certain someone was returning from their summer vacation with her sister today.
Since Haley had apologized, things had gotten significantly better. Avery was finally able to concentrate again, feeling lighter and generally in a better mood. Conflicts like that were always something she didn’t take well; she felt sick if something was unresolved.
Besides the usual small talk in town, Haley and Avery had also gone on casual walks to the beach together – something Avery always looked forward to.
Not only because Pelican Town and the girl walking next to her were beautiful, but because they were getting to know each other better and opening up more.
Haley had told Avery about her strained relationship with her parents and her loving bond with Emily that balanced it out. She talked about her photography, even though she hadn’t shown Avery any of her work yet. She spoke about her love-hate relationship with the small village, her thoughts about moving to Zuzu City, and her uncertainty about it all.
Avery was thankful, happy, even, to be able to talk to Haley like that and discover more about her day by day. She was an interesting woman, and Avery couldn’t lie – she felt drawn to her more than ever.
Talking to Haley about her own difficult years before moving to Pelican Town, her urge to change her life completely, and the risk she took stepping into a field she’d known nothing about had felt liberating. It was surprisingly easy to open up to her.
And as much as Avery appreciates their friendship, she also can’t help but crush on her – which, if she’s being honest, she had from the very start.
On one hand, Avery knows she has to talk about her feelings eventually. On the other, she isn’t sure when the right time will come – if it ever will. They are in a good place right now, and risking that is something she isn’t ready to do. Still, she knows she has to at some point. Otherwise, she might just end up kissing Haley in a moment of weakness.
Avery sighs. One step at a time.
Just as if she was reading her mind, Avery’s phone vibrates.
“Hey, farmer girl, what are you up to today?”
“Not much, waiting for you to come home?”
“Aww, miss me already? ;)”
“A little. It’s boring out here without a blonde pissing me off every now and then.”
“You’re a bitch.”
“You too. That’s why we get along so well.”
“Well, I wanted to tell you I’m back home and see if you want to come over. But I think I’ve changed my mind.”
“Sure you did ;) see you in ten minutes.”
Avery smiles like an idiot when she puts her phone back in her pocket. Do friends flirt like that? Urgh. She doesn't even know if Haley likes women that way – and Avery is too shy to ask. Maybe she’d find a way to ask around the bush or something.
Right on time, Avery reaches Haley’s and Emily’s house, knocking on the door.
When Haley opens with a big smile on her face, Avery feels like she is about to melt right there. She had missed that walking sunshine way too much. Haley is always beautiful, but the new tan brings out her freckles even more, making Avery’s heart flutter.
“Hey, princess,” Avery smiles, lips curling slightly.
“Farmer girl,” Haley says, crossing her arms.
After a few seconds, she smiles, wrapping her arms around Avery’s waist and snuggling her face into her chest. Avery pulls her closer, inhaling the intoxicating scent of her coconut shampoo and sweet perfume. Her pulse quickens, and she prays to Yoba that Haley can’t hear her hammering heart through her ribs.
“Look who missed me after all,” Avery laughs, gently resting her hands on Haley’s back.
“I did. But I also need your help.” Haley smirks, retreating from the hug that was way too short.
“Of course you do.” Avery puffs theatrically.
“Come inside, you big grump.”
Haley casually takes Avery’s hand and leads her inside, still chuckling, heading straight to the kitchenette.
As soon as they reach it, she lets go of Avery and pulls a pickle jar from the fridge.
“Can you open this for me? I’ve been trying for ten minutes, but I’m out of patience at this point.” She says, holding the jar towards Avery.
“Didn’t know you liked pickles.” Avery chuckles, setting the jar on the counter.
“I’m trying a new recipe. They’re a little too salty for my taste, but I think it’ll add a lot of flavor nevertheless.” Haley’s still smirking, but her eyes sparkle with excitement, and Avery can’t turn her down even if she wanted to.
“Can I get a taste if I help you?” Avery grins, resting her hand on the jar but not opening it yet.
“I’ll think about it.” Haley smiles, crossing her arms with expectation.
Avery twists her wrist in one smooth motion, opening the jar with a pop. Haley’s face is the most rewarding sight she’s ever seen. It's priceless. Maybe Avery should show off her strength more often if that is the reaction she’ll get.
“Not bad.” Haley huffs, clearly downplaying her surprise.
“I know. But a simple thank-you is enough.” Avery winks, handing the jar back to her.
Haley groans as she turns to empty the pickles into a designated bowl. After a while, she turns around.
“I’ll have to finish this before Emily comes home, but maybe you want to hang out tomorrow? I could bring some over.” Haley smiles and somehow, she looks so shy now. It’s too sweet to shoot a snarky comment.
“I’d love to.”
And now they are both shy, which is definitely new.
“I think I’ll leave you to it, then. It’s nice to have you back.” Avery smiles, hoping her flushed cheeks aren’t visible.
“Oh, yeah, sure. But I have a gift for you, actually. From our vacation.” Haley bubbles, reaching for her purse on the counter.
“What an honour.”
“Oh, shut up.” Haley smiles as she slowly pulls out a little pearl bracelet. Besides the white pearls, it has two charms hanging from it – it’s very subtle, but still visible.
“I don’t know if you like jewelry; I know it’s inconvenient since you work so much, with your hands and all.” Haley holds it out towards her, cheeks faintly pink.
“But I saw it and thought of you.” She murmurs, turning her eyes away.
God, this is so fucking sweet.
Avery takes the bracelet and observes it. It’s beautiful, even handcrafted. The two shining charms resemble the sun and the moon, from what she can tell.
“Sun and moon?” Avery asks, brushing her fingers over them.
“I know it’s cheesy as fuck, but I don’t know. It just reminded me of us, I guess. Day and night, sun and moon. Oh god, now that I say it out loud, it’s kind of embarrassing.” Haley stutters, brushing a hand over her red cheeks.
For a second, Avery is lost for words. She didn’t know Haley saw them like that. It’s symbolic, and yet so thoughtful and sweet. And a very Haley thing to do. She didn’t expect a gesture like that — and it confuses her even more now. But that’s a thought for later, when she falls asleep thinking about it.
“Haley, that’s so sweet of you. Thank you – I love it.” Avery says, locking eyes with her.
Haley smiles, visibly more relaxed now.
“Who thought the Ice Queen had that in her, huh.” Avery smirks, fastening the bracelet around her wrist.
“Way to ruin it, farmer girl.” Haley shoots back.
“I’m sorry, I can’t help it.” Avery laughs, nudging her shoulder, making Haley giggle as well.
“No, but seriously – that’s such a nice gift. You’re right, I can’t wear it every day, I don’t want to damage it. But I’ll find a VIP spot in my home to showcase it.” Avery smiles softly.
“I’m glad you like it.” Haley says, her deep-blue eyes flicker so much, it almost hypnotizes Avery.
After a while Avery finally makes her way to the door.
“See you tomorrow, princess,” she says, instinctively wrapping her arms around Haley.
“See you, farmer girl.” Haley giggles, burying her face in the crook of Avery’s neck.
Avery slept like a baby that night, the warm and fuzzy feeling in her chest lulling her into her dreams with ease. It’s just a casual hangout today – and yet she feels nervous somehow. Is this a date? Should she ask if this is a date? Or just be chill about it and let it come naturally?
Urgh, get a grip girl.
It’s almost embarrassing. It's been a while since Avery was so flustered over someone. As much as she enjoys feeling alive again, it also is dangerous, given the uncertainty of their relationship status.
What relationship status? You sound like an idiot, Avery.
Avery takes a deep breath and then – growls. She would rather scream, but chopping wood helps just as well.
Better to prepare now and have enough wood for the fireplace; otherwise, she ends up chopping trees in the snowy dark, which is the last thing she wants.
She swings the axe above her head and brings it down onto the wood plank, splitting it in half. The sweat drops leave trails under her shirt, running down her spine. She really has to shower before Haley comes over.
“Hey, hardworking farmer,” a familiar voice chimes.
Shit. Is it that late already?
“Hey, princess. I’m sorry, I’m not finished yet. I lost track of time.” Avery breathes heavily.
For a moment, Haley’s eyes travel up and down, taking her sweet time inspecting her. She steps forward and sits on a loose tree trunk, keeping a safe distance from Avery.
She crosses her legs, elbow resting on her knee, chin in her palm.
“I don’t mind. Carry on – the food won’t get cold.” Haley smirks.
Her half-lidded eyes openly scanning her body makes Avery’s knees weak. If she doesn’t manage to focus she is most likely going to hurt herself.
Avery inhales deeply, swinging the axe back and bringing it forward in a swift move, splitting the log in front of her. She continues, never daring to look directly at Haley. It’s too risky.
Finally, she reaches the last piece. She sets it in place perfectly.
“Wanna try?” Avery tilts her head, gathering the courage to glance at Haley.
“God, no…” Haley laughs, flipping her hair back.
“...I’d rather watch you.” Her voice is lower than usual.
Avery gulps.
She inhales again, gathering all her focus for the final swing. She slices through the wood with a clean cut.
Releasing the flannel she tied around her waist, she uses it to wipe the sweat from her face and arms. Out of the corner of her eye, she catches Haley still watching her – openly, without any shame.
“Do you have a strength kink or something?” Avery smirks, side-eyeing her as she wipes her hands.
“Shut up!” Haley scoffs, her face turning the color of a tomato.
Avery almost chokes on her own laughter, her stomach contracting painfully. This is just too good.
“Are you done?” Haley crosses her arms. She looks so embarrassed that Avery’s first instinct is to reassure her right away.
“Hey, I’m just kidding.” Avery exhales, still chuckling.
“I get it. Even if I’d still beat Alex at arm-wrestling for sure.”
“Alex? Why Alex?” Haley’s face paints a huge cloud of confusion – and amusement.
Shit. Avery thought she would be smoother about this.
“Oh, I just assumed. Since you hang around a lot.” She stammers.
Now it’s apparently Haley’s turn to burst out laughing.
After what feels like an eternity, Haley stands up and takes a step closer to Avery.
“Avery, you’re really sweet when you’re clueless,” she chuckles softly, grabbing her bowl of homemade food.
“We’re friends. And both very gay. C’mon, you deserve your salad.” Haley winks, swinging her hair back and confidently leading the way to Avery’s porch.
Avery’s heart, head, stomach – everything swirls and pulsates in an uncoordinated symphony. She gulps, trying to clear her throat somehow.
She really needs that shower now more than ever.

Chapter Text
Haley usually despises the winter season in Pelican Town. It’s cold, nature is dead, and every social activity has to take place indoors. The missing sun and the fact that she can’t swim in the ocean aren’t helping either.
But this winter showed her another perspective — and, of course, the reason for that was Avery.
Walking through the snow-filled village felt like walking through winter-wonderland. Sitting by the fireplace at Avery’s cottage with a hot chocolate in her hands certainly didn’t just warm her body, but also her soul.
Unfortunately, those cozy and warm moments only lasted two weeks, because the other two Avery drove back home to her family. As much as Haley encouraged her to visit them, she can’t lie about the fact that she missed her terribly.
Some days she visited Avery’s farm to help Marnie with the animals and cuddle with Basil like her life depended on it. It somehow made her feel closer to Avery, even if she weren’t physically there.
At least they texted and called each other daily, which helped with the missing part.
Luckily, Avery returned several days ago – just in time for spring to start. The snow has melted weeks ago, making room for blooming flowers, freshly cut grass, and chirping birds.
Like the change in seasons, Haley can’t help but notice her growing feelings for Avery.
Their friendship hasn’t changed much since Haley casually dropped that she’s gay, but every banter, every lingering gaze, every accidental touch makes her feel like there’s more to it.
And it drives her insane.
She’s been confused since the day they met, and their flirty yet teasing dynamic is something Haley can’t quite pinpoint. Is it still friendly? It sure doesn’t feel like it.
Avery did share a little about her past dating life – which, all in all, had been a disaster. But who is Haley to judge? Hers wasn’t particularly rosy either.
Haley turns the bedsheet over her head. Why does she have to have those thoughts right before bedtime?
She groans and turns to the side, her great-grandmother’s necklace on the nightstand catching her eye. Memories of Avery flood her mind – her beautiful brown eyes sparkling and her melting smile as she found it by the shore. Haley fought everything in herself not to kiss her at that very moment.
But why can’t she just kiss her?
She’s your friend.
She’s more than that and you know it.
“Urgh!” Haley groans into her pillow.
She can’t keep it inside much longer. Maybe it’s time to finally address the elephant in the room. It just has to wait – at least until after Avery’s birthday tomorrow, in case she doesn’t feel the same.
That last thought is something she could’ve resisted. Now she’s not going to sleep at all.
Okay, Haley, think.
Picnic blanket, sweet grape wine, farmer’s salad, fruit bowl, chocolate, homemade orange juice – she packed everything.
Oh no, I forgot something.
Haley rushes back to her room and grabs her newest camera. It’s an analog one, perfect for today’s occasion.
“Bye, Emily!” she shouts halfway through the door.
“Have fun! Don't do anything I wouldn't do,” Emily laughs, but Haley already closes the door.
Nope. Not today, satan-sis.
It’s peaceful at Cindersap Forest today: sunny, warm enough for a picnic, and privacy guaranteed. Well, at least Haley made sure of that by moving further south so they wouldn’t sit right in front of Leah’s cottage.
As she reaches her chosen spot, she rolls out the blanket and places the picnic basket next to it. It looks beautiful, and Haley is very pleased with her preparations.
Until doubts creep up her spine.
This is too much, isn’t it? Yep. Way too much for a friendship picnic.
But it’s her birthday…
Haley takes a deep breath. It doesn’t matter now – she’s set everything up already. She just hopes her heart rate goes down before Avery comes.
“Wow, princess.” Avery’s sweet giggle shoots goosebumps all over Haley’s skin.
“Happy Birthday!” Haley chants, wrapping her arms around Avery.
The hug feels warm, like something they both missed. Haley’s head starts to spin at Avery’s scent. It’s addicting.
“You put on perfume?” she snickers, pulling back from the hug to look at Avery.
“Well, I can’t smell like dirt on my special day, can I?” Avery laughs softly.
“You’re learning fast, good girl.” Haley winks.
And just a millisecond later, Haley’s heart stops.
Those words came out way too naturally and way too fast. She wants to evaporate into thin air the moment she says them. This is going to be torturous without spilling her feelings all at once.
Avery’s flushed cheeks snap Haley back to reality.
“Uhm, c’mon Avery, let’s sit. The food and drinks are too good to waste.” Haley clears her throat and lowers herself onto the blanket.
As Avery follows, the weird atmosphere from before vanishes in an instant. Haley pulls two wine glasses out of the basket along with the sweet grape wine they both learned to love.
“So, to you, birthday girl,” Haley smiles, offering Avery a glass.
“Thanks. And to you, for setting this up,” Avery grins.
“You deserve it. And I like to spoil you from time to time,” Haley winks, taking a sip of her wine. Her confidence can only last so long when Avery keeps looking at her with that soft smile of hers.
“We haven’t had much time to talk lately. How have you been?” Avery’s shimmering, warm eyes find Haley’s.
“You know, the usual – waiting for winter to be over. But the Feast of the Winter Star was actually really nice this year.”
“We have to go there together next year. It’s a shame I missed it,” Avery says, her smile fading a little.
“Hey, don’t be sad about that now. As long as you stay here, we can attend every event in Pelican Town.” Haley reaches for Avery’s hand. So much for self-control.
Avery’s gaze feels like she just heard the best news of her life. Haley’s breath catches in her throat and her heart hammers in her chest at the sight before her.
“I brought my camera, Ave. We can take some pictures if you want.” Haley smiles, pulling the camera out of her purse.
“Ave? That’s a new one.” Avery’s laugh rings right through Haley’s chest.
“Do you want me to call you farmer girl for the rest of your life?” Haley shoots back, crossing her arms.
Haley expects a deep laugh, a nudge against her shoulder, or a teasing comment. But instead, Avery just smiles again – soft, content, happy.
She lifts her camera and snaps a photo quickly.
“Hey, I wasn’t ready!” Avery huffs.
“It took you too long to answer,” Haley shoots back, blatantly lying. She just wanted to capture this beautiful woman in front of her – looking at her like she’s the best thing in the world.
They take some more photos: silly ones, real ones, selfies. The afternoon is far too perfect to end.
As the sun slowly sets on the horizon, they empty the bottle of wine and sit in comfortable silence.
“This was the best first birthday in Pelican Town. Thank you for this.” Avery says after a while, her brown eyes reflecting the sunset.
“Oh, please. This was nothing.” Haley smiles back. You deserve so much more than this.
“Oh, just take the compliment, Haley!” Avery snickers, tickling her fingers along Haley’s sides.
“Stop it, you’re such a child!” Haley laughs so hard her stomach starts hurting.
She successfully defends the attack, but Avery still doesn’t retreat – instead, she stays close to Haley.
So close she can feel Avery’s breath brushing her lips. Haley can’t hear the birds chirping anymore; the sound of her own heartbeat drowns it out. Avery moves her hand, which had been resting on Haley’s before, and intertwines their fingers – like it belongs that way.
Avery’s smile fades into something Haley has never seen before. Something lingering, yearning – something meaningful. Every thought about them being just friends, not ruining her birthday, or the uncertainty of it all whirls in Haley’s mind. But with the way Avery is looking through her soul, she can’t hold it in any longer.
As Avery’s eyes wander down to her lips, Haley’s emotions rumble through her chest. It’s impossible to contain.
Haley’s hand finds Avery’s neck, her thumb brushing over her cheek. As if Avery has been waiting for it, she closes the distance and kisses Haley.
Her soft lips are intoxicating, making Haley shiver at her touch. Instinctively, their hands wrap around each other, breathing each other in like a last breath. Their rhythm is slow, soft, cautious – but so full of emotion it erases every doubt Haley ever had.
Haley slowly breaks the spell, leaning her forehead against Avery’s.
“Happy birthday,” she whispers, a huge smile curling on her lips.
“You gave me the best birthday gift,” Avery smiles, locking eyes with her.
“I wanted to do this for Yoba knows how long,” she adds, chuckling.
Haley giggles as she brushes her palm over Avery’s cheek.
“Me too. You have no idea.”
The beautiful sunset is the reason Haley chose this spot in the first place. But the colors fade into the background – completely forgotten in the blissfulness.

Chapter 6: Lovers: Change
Chapter Text
This morning Avery wakes up to the sun kissing her face. The sheets wrap around her, feeding into her daze. Her head feels cloudy, dizzy, even though she didn’t drink much the day before.
Am I dreaming? Was yesterday even real?
Avery opens her eyes hesitantly, searching for her phone on the nightstand, barely able to see anything as the sun blinds her.
The display shows 10 a.m. Wow, it’s been a while since I slept in like that.
The display also shows three unread messages from Haley, waking Avery completely as her heart rumbles in her chest.
“Morning, sleepyhead ;)”
“I’m going to be developing the photos from your birthday later in the afternoon.”
“You should come around, they’re pretty cute.”
So this isn’t a dream, it’s just her life. Her life – treating her well for a change.
Avery stumbles out of her bed with the biggest smile on her face. She can’t believe her and Haley finally kissed. It was beautiful, straight out of a movie.
Finally, she doesn’t have to question their dynamic or hide her feelings.
Of course she still has to figure out if they are dating or not, but that’s something that can wait until later.
Even though it’s relatively late that day, Avery still manages to take care of her crops and animals before heading to Haley’s place.
Against Avery’s expectations, Emily opens the door after her knocking.
“Hey, Avery! So nice to see you. Unfortunately, I’m in a rush, I’m late for my shift.” She smiles, hectically wrapping her bag over her shoulder.
“Haley’s in her darkroom.” Emily winks before beaming past Avery.
Darkroom? Yoba help.
With every step closer towards Haley’s room, Avery’s heart rate picks up a beat. She doesn’t know what to expect.
Entering Haley’s room without Haley actually being in it feels weird. But her sweet scent radiating through her room intoxicates Avery beyond her better judgment.
Despite having been in this room several times now, she had never been lucky enough to see what’s behind that door right in front of her. She knew it was a darkroom and she knew it was for developing analog photos. Haley shared some of her work with Avery, but analog was something she was new to and too self-conscious to show. At least until today.
Avery knocks on the unknown door.
“Come in, but quickly close the door behind you!” Haley’s sweet voice is muffled behind the thick wood.
As Avery quickly slips inside the room, a very dark red light surrounds her vision. It feels artificial, but not uncomfortable, to Avery’s surprise. Her eyes adjust after a couple of seconds, finally finding the woman she is here for.
“Welcome to my darkroom, farmer girl.” Haley grins, widening her arms.
Avery smirks back, taking her time to look around. Besides the red lights and the slight smell of chemicals in little bathtubs, there are several hanging lines with dozens of photos clipped to them. Avery makes out the outlines of her face, the picnic basket, Haley’s golden hair. It’s beautiful.
“That’s so impressive, Haley.” Avery smiles, taking a step closer, reaching for Haley’s hands.
The red light makes it impossible to tell if she’s blushing or not, but Avery just assumes she is.
“Thank you, Ave.” Haley squeezes Avery’s hand slightly.
“Mind showing me around, tell me what everything is?” She really does want to know more about Haley’s ardor.
Haley leads her around, showing her gear and explaining the process along the way. She talks about the cameras, analog photography in general, why the safelight is important and the uncertainty about how the photos turn out – and the thrill of it.
“I’m rambling,” Haley chuckles, stopping at a table in the middle of the room.
“I don’t mind. I like your rambling.” Avery shoots back, stopping right in front of Haley.
“Are you trying to get into my pants, farmer girl?” Haley grins.
Well I am, but I still mean it.
Avery tries to ignore her rumbling thoughts and dry throat. Haley will do anything to throw her off balance.
“You know, believe it or not – I’m just very grateful my girlfriend trusts me enough to share her passion with me, something that’s meaningful to her.” Luckily Avery knows how to throw Haley off balance as well.
“Girlfriend?” Haley smirks, voice unbothered. But her blue eyes shimmer even through the dim light.
“Do you want it? To be my girlfriend?” Avery’s confidence is totally pretend at this point. Her pulsating heart travels all the way up to her throat.
“I think you know the answer to that.” Haley whispers, trailing her finger across Avery’s chest.
Something in Avery switches at Haley’s words.
She steps closer, forcing Haley to retreat to the edge of the table. And then, she leans forward, hovering her mouth over Haley’s ear.
“I want you to say it,” she whispers.
Haley squirms, her fingers on the edge of the table pressing into it.
She turns her eyes up to look at Avery.
“I want to be your girlfriend, Avery.” Haley gently brushes her fingers along Avery’s jawline.
Hearing those words from Haley’s mouth sparks a flame in Avery, releasing everything she’d kept inside for so damn long.
She grabs Haley by her sides and pushes her up on the table, finding her place between her legs like that’s where she belongs.
Haley completely melts into her embrace as soon as she starts kissing her, wrapping her arms around Avery’s shoulders. The kiss is soft, but only for mere seconds before it turns more heated, hungry.
Avery slowly traces her hands along Haley’s back, making her pant into her mouth. It drives her insane.
She needs more. She wants to kiss every inch of her skin, taste everything Haley’s got beneath.
Avery breaks the kiss, slowly trailing wet kisses along Haley’s neck. The mix of her sweet scent and salty taste on her skin makes Avery dizzy with desire.
Haley trails her fingernails into Avery’s hair and wraps her legs around her waist, keeping her just where she needs her.
As Avery’s kisses turn more heated, she sucks and licks along Haley’s neck further. The sweet pants that escape Haley’s mouth shoot warmth between her own legs, pulsing along with her heartbeat.
She stops for a moment, inhaling the sight in front of her. Haley’s hooded eyes, her freckles visible in the red light and her chest rising and falling in heavy motions send off fireworks in Avery’s body.
She’s dreamt about this for countless nights, wondering if she’d ever get to be with Haley like this.
And now she’s here, trapped between the legs of the woman who makes her come undone with one gaze.
“Why did you stop?” Haley pants.
“I’m just admiring the view.” Avery smirks.
“You’re so cheesy, Ave,” she chuckles sweetly.
“Don’t act like you don’t like it.”
“I do.” Haley’s low voice makes it impossible to hold back any longer. Avery scrapes her last coherent thoughts together.
“Maybe we should move this to the bedroom,” Avery says after a moment, realizing they’re still in the darkroom with thousands of sensitive materials around them.
“No…” Haley slowly drags her nails underneath Avery’s flannel, peeling it off to toss it on the floor.
Her eyes wander along Avery’s body like she’s admiring a work of art. It’s unraveling.
Her soft hands glide along Avery’s arms, stopping right before her shoulders.
“Take me right here.”
The tone in Haley’s voice is something Avery couldn’t have even dreamt about. It’s bursting with desire – and it’s so fucking hot.
Every thought holding back vanishes in that exact moment.
She crashes their lips together, picking up right where they left off. The kisses are sloppy and wet as Avery’s tongue dances around Haley’s. Their gasps and moans find their own rhythm.
Avery’s hands glide along Haley’s thighs, pushing her skirt up higher. Her skin is soft and burning hot.
Haley’s impatience grows as she hooks her top and pulls it over her head, revealing her laced bra in the process. It’s hard to tell what color it is under the red light. And Avery doesn’t give a shit right now – even if she does appreciate lingerie.
Haley’s anticipating gaze fuels Avery. She trails her hand back and unclips the bra with a swift tug, revealing Haley’s beautiful breasts.
Avery cups both and bites into Haley’s neck softly, earning the most rewarding sharp moan. There’s nothing Avery wants more than finding out which pretty noises she can draw out of Haley’s mouth.
She keeps working on Haley, squeezing one nipple between her fingers.
“Fuck,” Haley gasps, and Avery fights everything in her to keep ignoring the pooling heat between her legs. She wants to concentrate on her girlfriend, even though she makes it pretty damn hard to do so.
Avery slowly traces her hand past Haley’s stomach, gliding under her skirt. As she finally reaches the spot she’s craving for, she traces her finger over her panties. She’s soaked.
“Get them off,” Haley demands.
“So impatient, princess.” Avery smirks, hooking her fingers along the waistband, gliding them down and tossing them on top of her flannel on the floor.
Avery wraps one arm around Haley, steadying her. Her gaze pierces through those beautiful blue eyes in front of her, getting lost in them.
Haley’s sharp nails dig into Avery’s skin as she glides one finger between Haley’s folds. She brushes it up and down lazily, taking her time to explore despite the impatience consuming Haley.
Haley’s hips move in rhythm and anticipation, searching for more pressure, more release.
Avery would give everything to drink in the sight longer – Haley already unraveling to her soft touch. But even more than that she wants to make her come undone entirely.
She presses her lips on Haley’s while working her finger along her wet folds.
Then, she pushes two fingers inside with ease, causing Haley to moan into her mouth. If it keeps going like that, Avery might come without even touching herself.
She starts slowly, pushing in deeper to let Haley adjust. Then she pushes in and out, curling her fingers up in the process.
“Ah, fuck.” Haley moans. It’s music to Avery’s ears.
She keeps a steady pace, thrusting in and out of Haley, listening to her sounds indicating what she likes and what she doesn’t.
“More,” Haley whimpers. She buries her face in the crook of Avery’s neck, her grip tightening around her shoulders.
Avery pushes further, working her girlfriend open with every thrust. Haley’s pants and whimpers vibrate against Avery’s neck, making it difficult for her to hold the pace.
But she is surely not slowing down now.
The wet sounds of Avery’s thrusting and Haley’s moans fill the darkroom, echoing off the walls.
“Please, don’t stop,” Haley muffles against Avery.
Avery tightens her grip around Haley, working her thrusting fingers more relentlessly now. Her fingers are damp, but the wetness spreading along them reminds her of her dream coming true.
As Haley squeezes her thighs together, her walls start to contract around Avery’s fingers. It feels so good, and it sends shockwaves through Avery’s body.
The wave of pleasure overcomes Haley, her walls gripping around Avery’s fingers just as her nails grip into Avery’s shoulders. Haley’s breathing steadies as she rides out every last wave before Avery carefully pulls her fingers out.
For a brief moment Haley relaxes in Avery’s embrace, before looking up into her eyes. Her cheeks are flushed; she looks gorgeous, messy, perfect.
“Farmer girl, you’re pretty good at this.” Haley smirks with heavy-lidded eyes.
Avery’s smile grows mischievous. Haley has no idea what Avery has in store for her. She can’t wait to show it all to her.
She slowly traces her soaked fingers up towards her lips, locking eyes with Haley to make sure she sees everything.
Avery glides them into her mouth up to her knuckles, licking them clean.
“And I’m not done with you, princess.”
Haley squirms at those words, squeezing her thighs around Avery. And the sparkle in her eyes tells Avery more than words ever could.
“Lay down for me, baby.”
Without a word Haley spreads along the empty table.
Avery decides to discard the skirt entirely; she doesn’t want anything to block the whole view over Haley’s mesmerizing body.
Haley leans against her elbows, clearly excited for what comes next.
Avery smirks as she guides Haley’s legs over her shoulders, kissing the insides of her thighs softly.
Even in the dim lights Haley’s folds glisten from the previous orgasm. Avery can’t wait to have a taste of that for herself.
Her tongue draws a long stroke between Haley’s folds, bathing in the scent and the sweet taste of her woman. It’s tantalizing.
Lazily, her tongue glides along, spreading Haley’s wetness.
As Avery looks up at her, she can barely contain her position on her elbows; Haley’s eyes shut as her breathing quickens.
Avery smiles into Haley as she buries her tongue deeper into her with a steady rhythm.
Haley’s angelic moans tickle Avery’s ears as she drops her upper body on the table, one hand gripping the edge as the other lands on her forehead.
Avery tries to capture this moment, imprint it on her mind like one of Haley’s photographs. She can’t wrap her head around it – eating out a goddess she fell for ever since her blue eyes struck into her.
Avery pulls her tongue out of Haley, replacing it with two of her fingers instead. With her thrusting she adds additional pressure by sucking on Haley’s clit.
“Oh my god, fuck!” Haley shouts, burying her fingers in Avery’s hair, pulling her even closer into her.
Haley’s hips twitch in uncoordinated ways, making Avery pull her down to keep her in place as her legs press against Avery’s head.
The combination of sucking and thrusting sends Haley over the edge once again. Her legs and hips shake violently as Avery rides her through her high.
As the grip around Avery loosens, she grabs her flannel from the floor and wipes her mouth.
Slowly she bends over Haley, placing soft kisses on her cheek and mouth.
“You good, princess?” she smiles, whispering into Haley’s ear.
“Never been better,” Haley says softly, pressing her lips to Avery’s for a deep and slow kiss.
“I’ve never come like this with anyone else before.” She chuckles with hooded eyes.
“Glad to help out.” Avery snickers, earning a hard nudge against her shoulder.
After getting dressed and giggling like teenagers, Haley and Avery cuddle until the hard table gets too uncomfortable eventually. A bed would’ve been comfier. But having their first time in Haley’s darkroom is something Avery surely will never forget in her life.
Haley still needs to develop the photos so they wouldn’t go to waste – something Avery definitely doesn’t want to happen, since they’re all from her birthday. So she lets Haley work her magic.
“That was fun.” Haley whispered when they said their goodbyes at her door earlier.
God, she’s going to be the death of me. She’s gorgeous and evil. It’s addicting, making Avery crave more.
A knock on the door startles her out of her dirty thoughts.
A beautiful sunshine lights up her view as she opens the door.
“You miss me already, princess?” Avery smirks, leaning against the doorframe.
“I’m here to return the favor from earlier.” Haley steps closer as an evil smile forms on her lips.
Fuck.
She steps closer, entering Avery’s house confidently and clicking the door shut behind her.
“Or do you have other plans?” She glides her hands over Avery’s chest.
Avery folds; Haley’s words throw her confidence off the roof.
She’s so certain, so determined and so goddamn hot.
“No, I don’t – especially when it comes to you.” Avery smirks and wraps her hands around Haley’s waist.
She sounds so needy. And she doesn’t give a shit about it either. Avery was never afraid to say what she wants.
“Good.” Haley smirks, grabbing Avery’s hand and leading her to the couch in the living room.
Just before reaching it, Haley turns around and shoves Avery onto the couch. She lands harshly on her butt.
“Damn, princess. Stronger than I thought.” Avery says, looking up at Haley and placing her arms along the back of the couch.
Haley steps closer – and sits down on Avery’s lap like a throne, straddling her hips.
Avery’s heart jumps. The weight of Haley on top of her, the way their hips meet and the way Haley’s butt feels in her hands send her into another orbit.
“You talk too much,” Haley says with a stern voice.
With a firm grin she hooks a finger under Avery’s jaw, pressing her lips against hers with determination.
Avery didn’t get off after their encounter in the darkroom, not even in the shower. And it backfires more intensely than before. She gasps at the rough kisses Haley places on her neck.
This time, the desire crushes onto them, making them more impatient than before. Haley slides off Avery’s lap, kneeling between her legs.
She looks so innocent considering what she’s about to do to Avery.
“Lose your pants for me?” she asks way too sweetly.
Avery obeys without hesitation, stripping off her pants and underwear at the same time.
It’s weird, being half dressed like that and Haley being fully clothed. And at the same time the pooling just gets unbearable.
“You’re so fucking beautiful, Avery,” Haley says, spreading Avery’s legs apart with both of her hands.
Her eyes flicker with excitement the moment she positions herself closer. Avery’s pumping heart echoes in her head.
Haley doesn’t hesitate; her arms wander up Avery’s thighs as her mouth buries deep between her folds.
Her tongue feels out of this world, and with everything that has built up during the day, Avery feels like she won’t last long.
Haley licks her tongue across her clit, drawing circles as she goes further down. She hums against her center. The vibration – and the way she’s enjoying it – makes Avery even wetter than before.
She grabs Haley’s hair and pulls her closer, moving her hips along with Haley’s tongue. The pull draws a moan out of Haley’s mouth, driving Avery insane. God, she feels so good.
As Haley smiles and looks straight through her soul while sucking the life out of Avery, she can’t hold anything back any longer.
“Fuck, Haley,” is the last thing that comes out of her mouth before she drops her head back, shutting her eyes.
The warm and sloppy movement gets rougher, Haley burying herself in Avery’s folds, creating enough pressure to crumble Avery into pieces.
Her vision blurs; she squeezes her eyes shut so much she’s seeing stars. And the rush coming over her sends her into another dimension.
Finally, she opens her eyes, facing the ceiling. She loosens her grip on Haley as soon as her body starts to relax.
As she looks down, Haley is still kneeling between her legs, her beautiful flushed face covered with Avery’s juices.
Without any hesitation Avery bends forward, grabbing Haley by the back of her neck, kissing her slowly. She can taste herself on her, unlocking something feral inside her.
“I suppose that means you liked it,” Haley giggles.
“How could I not like the most gorgeous woman eating me out on my living room couch?” Avery laughs, brushing her thumb across her cheek.
As Haley’s cheeks grow more pink, Avery guides her up to stand.
“We’re moving this to the bedroom,” Avery says, grabbing Haley’s butt and picking her up from the floor with ease.
"Why's that?” Haley smiles.
“Because as much as I loved it today, I need to feel your skin on mine.”
This time Haley doesn’t shoot a snarky comment; she just nods.
Because now both of them finally realize how much they need each other.

Chapter Text
Haley’s been on cloud nine since she and Avery got together. Their first kiss, their first time, all the times after… they’ve lingered in her mind for a long time.
And they still do. Never in a million years would she have thought that love could feel like this. Not only because she dated men for too long, but also because her experiences with women were – well, limited.
But with Avery, she never felt insecure or unsure. Her girlfriend reassured her, made her feel good about herself, and always encouraged her to talk openly about anything. It’s a dream Haley didn’t even know she had.
Not only Avery as a person blew Haley’s mind – their sex life did that as well. It felt liberating, intimate, and so addicting. It makes her want to explore more, to find new ways to drive Avery insane – and to turn her own brain to mush, too.
Just thinking about it makes Haley’s knees weak. And the fucking worst thing about it is that Avery has been so busy the past week. Her farm demanded a lot from her: her crops were huge, some of her animals got pregnant, and her low resource intake forced her to go to the mines more often.
Haley understood, she really did. But she wished Avery had more time for her, and especially that she would slow down a little. Get help, automate more on her farm – just something.
Avery had a lot of excuses, but still, she managed to find time for Haley, even if it was only for a few hours. It was too short for Haley. She hated herself for being so demanding, but she couldn’t help it either. That’s what Avery signed up for, now she has to take it.
Calm down, Haley.
She tries to tell herself that, tries to relax, to distract herself with her own projects.
But her patience can only last so long.
When the “Princess, I’ll make it up to you.” text pops up on her phone, she can’t take it anymore.
If she doesn’t walk into Avery’s farm herself, nothing is going to happen.
She finds herself knocking on her door just ten minutes later.
“Hey, babe. Shit, did we have a date I forgot?” Avery greets her as soon as she opens the door.
Haley’s chest rumbles with heat.
“No. But the fact you’re not sure about that kind of pisses me off.”
Avery’s face is a mixture of sadness and panic. Haley instantly feels sorry, but she fears it’s the only way to make her point clear right now.
“Come in,” Avery says, opening the door wider.
Haley steps in and drops onto the couch, crossing her legs and arms.
“You’re mad, aren’t you?” Avery exhales as she sits next to her.
“Yes, Avery. I’m fucking mad. I know you have a lot of work to do, and I’m the last person on earth to want to hold you back. I just have the feeling I’m not high on your priority list right now.”
“Babe, I’m so sorry. You’re right.” Avery smiles weakly, offering her hands to Haley.
Haley takes them. She could never refuse.
“It’s just madness. I wish I could duplicate myself.”
Haley squeezes her hands gently.
“Urgh. I’m sorry for being such a bitch. I want to support you, Avery, I really do. But you always have to do things on your own.”
Avery’s face softens. “You’re right.”
“I am?” That was easier than she thought.
“I’m bad at taking help, but I should. I’ll ask Marnie to help me with the animals and craft some tools to automate things.” Avery brushes her thumbs across the backs of Haley’s hands.
“I’m happy you see that now.” Haley chuckles.
“I fell in love with a very demanding woman – now I have to live with it.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Haley scoffs.
Avery’s smile turns smug as she leans closer.
“It means you’re a fucking brat,” she whispers.
A brat, huh. You have no fucking idea, Avery.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Haley smiles.
“You’re stubborn…” Avery leans closer.
“…greedy…” her breath hovers on Haley’s neck.
“…insufferable.” She licks her tongue across Haley’s pulse point.
“And I think you have to be put in your fucking place, hm?” she gently bites down on it.
Haley’s brain is already foggy, heat pooling between her legs. She needs her so badly. She was craving it long enough. But she scrapes her last nerves together to put up at least some kind of fight.
“I don’t think you can manage that, farmer girl,” she breathes out, her voice as firm as possible.
Avery pulls back, her warm, brown eyes scanning Haley’s face.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, princess.” Her eyes darken like a switch.
Haley’s heart feels like it’s about to burst out.
“Or what?” Haley teases, brushing a strand of hair behind Avery’s ear.
“Or you’re going to beg for release when I’m done with you.”
“I don’t think so.” Haley laughs – and god, it’s pathetic, because they both know it’s a lie.
Avery’s low hum makes Haley shiver. And her intense gaze is unravelling. She hasn't even touched her yet and still it makes her whole body tremble.
Avery’s strong hand finds the back of Haley’s neck, pulling her into a kiss. It’s soft and rough at the same time, like she’s trying to prove a point. And god, it works.
Their rhythm comes naturally as they bury their tongues deeper into one another. It’s warm, sloppy, and as Avery nibbles on Haley’s lower lip, she feels like she’s going to combust.
Avery’s hands travel all over her body – Haley can’t tell where they are, it feels like they touch everywhere at once.
As they slip under her top, groping both breasts, a pathetic whimper escapes Haley’s mouth. Avery’s triumphant smirk is unbearable. But Haley’s body gives in too fast to care. She didn’t wear a bra on purpose, after all. Her back arches into Avery’s touch, her thighs clenching at the overwhelming sensation.
Avery pulls away, leaving a wet line connecting their mouths. It’s filthy – but it makes Haley worry she might ruin the couch with how soaked she already is. She’s losing control every passing second, but being at the mercy of her woman like that makes her feel so alive.
Soft hands trace along her sides, gently pulling her shirt up, leaving her bare. Avery’s gaze never leaves Haley’s as she presses her mouth against her nipple. Haley’s hand clings to the back of the couch, the other to Avery’s neck. The pulsating need between her legs is too intense to ignore. A sharp gasp escapes as Avery brushes her teeth over her sensitive skin.
“Finally ready to do as you’re told?” Avery says firmly.
“You wish.” Haley pants.
Avery’s lips turn way too soft for the occasion. Haley can’t wrap her mind around her being so genuine and so disarming at the same time.
She wants to know what Avery is going to do to her, when she’s being this difficult. She’s going to drive her insane if she has to.
To Haley’s surprise, Avery stands up from her couch, leaving a half-naked Haley behind.
“Where are you going?” But Avery already disappeared behind the bedroom door.
Haley sits like this for a while. A little too long for her taste.
Is she going to leave me like this? I’m going to kill her.
Before Haley can question her life choices, Avery comes back – with a rope.
“What the hell?” Haley mumbles as she turns to see her girlfriend.
Fuck. She looks so hot.
Avery lost her flannel on the way back, only wearing a tank top and shorts that go just below her knees. Her muscles are toned, flexing as she swings the rope lazily. She looks so strong and so soft at the same time. Like a goddess. Like a threat.
“Lose your skirt, princess,” she demands, slowly wrapping the rope around her knuckles.
Haley squirms as her cheeks turn hot. She can’t deny anything with a view like that.
Like a hidden force dictating her, she stands up from the couch, slipping off her skirt until it meets the floor. As she is about to hook her fingers into the waistband of her panties, Avery interrupts.
“Not yet. Come here.” Avery’s smile weakens slightly, her eyes glistening with desire.
Haley closes the distance, her heartbeat vibrating in her throat. Just inches apart, Avery grabs her hips and turns her around.
Slowly, her hands travel along Haley’s arms, reaching her hands. She gently pulls them to her back.
“I’ll make sure you behave.” Avery’s low voice brushes Haley’s ear, shooting goosebumps all over her skin. It’s maddening to the core.
The rope finds its way around Haley’s wrists. First it’s slow – like a snake wandering around them. Haley is sure Avery knows what she’s doing; she crafts everything on her own, after all. Haley can feel Avery’s fingers brush against her wrists as she works her knots around them. Then, she tugs it together. The rough, tight contracting of the rope turns her mind blank.
“Is that tight enough? Or do you need more?” Avery whispers into Haley’s ear.
Haley whimpers; her words don’t function. She tries to answer, but all she can manage is a nod.
“Use your words, princess,” Avery says, gripping the rope roughly.
“Yes, it’s tight enough,” Haley pants.
“Good.”
Avery lets go of the rope, entering Haley’s vision. Her eyes travel up and down – admiring, satisfied with her work, with the pull she has over Haley. Avery’s gaze tells her more than words could: Look what you’ve done.
Without a word, Avery steps closer. Her arm wraps around Haley’s legs, just beneath her butt, raising her up from the ground. Like she’s a feather, Avery throws her over her shoulder.
Haley wants to fight it, say something, free herself from the grip. But desire blurs her mind entirely, making her dizzy with anticipation.
The walk to the bedroom fills Haley’s chest with excitement. Of course she loves how strong her girlfriend is – that’s not surprising. What surprises her more is how good it feels to be restricted like that. Being at the mercy of everything Avery does to her.
As they reach the bedroom, Avery doesn’t throw her onto the bed. Instead, she pulls Haley down on her feet, facing the bed, standing right behind her. Haley’s breath quickens.
“Bend over.” Avery’s breath on Haley’s neck makes her hairs stand on end.
Haley wants to bend to her needs. But she also wants to drive her to the brink of madness.
“I fear you’ll have to make me, farmer girl.” Haley’s heart flutters. Sweat is already forming on her forehead. She can feel Avery smile behind her.
Avery gently brushes her palm over Haley’s bare back – and shoves her forward to land on the bed, face-first.
Avery leans forward over Haley, her weight pushing her body into the mattress. The burning need between her legs grows torturous.
“You’re going to regret this. But that’s on you now,” Avery grumbles, nibbling on Haley’s earlobe.
Still on top of Haley, she slowly brushes her fingers over the center, exploring her wetness through her panties.
“Poor girl, look at you,” Avery whispers, pushing her finger into the fabric.
“Fuck.” Haley pants, her desperate fighting leaving her.
Avery hums, her finger moving rougher, more relentlessly. Unwillingly, Haley’s hips move along desperately.
Just in that moment, Avery stops, relieving Haley of her weight. Haley twitches in frustration, fully aware that it’s useless due to her tied hands.
Her girlfriend laughs at her reaction. It’s evil, spiteful – and it echoes through every bone of Haley’s body.
Once again she’s left there to wait. Exposed, needy, ready to be taken apart.
Haley’s short breath and the rumbling behind her feed into her desperation. She knows Avery is going to torture her, and she feels so filthy for wanting that. For needing it.
Soon, she feels Avery’s presence behind her. She slowly pulls her knees up, slipping something soft beneath them.
“It’s going to be a while, Haley,” Avery says with a stern voice. Her being rough, demanding, dominant – but yet so considerate at the same time – pulls Haley deeper into her haze.
As Avery pushes her hips into Haley’s, she groans into the mattress. It’s nothing, not near the pressure she needs, and still it’s enough to rile her up even more than she already is.
Avery’s hands grab into Haley’s butt cheeks, spreading them slightly. God, she’s going to fucking kill me.
“So that’s what you wanted, hm? To show me how desperate you are,” Avery voices, spreading Haley’s cheeks further.
Haley’s strength to fight leaves her body completely. She can’t take it anymore, even though they haven’t even really started yet – and are nowhere near where she needs Avery. Haley nods slightly against the mattress; she doesn’t care anymore.
Avery brushes her fingers underneath Haley’s string, freeing her of it at a frustratingly slow pace. Her slip glides along her legs, stopping right at her knees. She feels even more restricted now – driving her insane in the best ways.
“I wish you could see yourself, Haley” Avery breathes against her back, her finger hovering against her center like a feather.
Haley buries her face into the sheets, a low groan escaping her mouth. She might beg sooner than she wanted, but Avery is too good at shutting off her brain functions.
Without warning, Avery grabs the rope end on Haley’s wrists, pushing something hard against her folds. A low vibration shakes her core – it’s infuriating. Haley’s hips push back against the vibration impulsively, but of course, Avery retreats, pushing her harder into the mattress.
“Fuck you, Avery,” Haley growls, clenching her fists, the harsh rope burying into her wrists.
“Oh, that’s not a good way to get what you want,” Avery smirks, clicking the vibrator even lower.
Haley bites into the sheets, regretting everything she just said. Fuck, she will end up begging nevertheless.
“What is it, love?” Avery leans forward towards Haley’s ear.
Haley groans in response, her eyes glazing to the side to face Avery. She looks so satisfied, calm, and utterly devastating.
Haley is about to crumble into pieces; she’s been fighting for way too long, her body betraying her.
“Please,” she whispers, barely audible to herself. It’s not enough, she knows that. But she can’t bring herself to say it louder.
“Hm,” Avery mumbles, setting the vibrations slightly higher.
“If you want more, you’ll have to say it.” She pushes the toy deeper between Haley’s folds, gliding up and down.
“More. Please, Avery.” Haley moans, her breath quickening with every stroke.
“You’re learning fast. Good girl.” Avery echoes Haley’s words from the day of their first kiss, mocking her viciously.
Finally, she buries the toy at full speed, thrusting it inside her with ease. Haley’s moans grow loud, uncoordinated, losing their volume in the mattress.
Avery keeps thrusting her in a steady rhythm, leaning further forward to fully glance at Haley’s face. Haley’s mouth parts; she wants to look at Avery, say something – but her vision blurs.
The sensation takes over her – it feels so fucking good. Reacting, resisting, demanding is impossible in her state of mind. As Haley’s eyes roll back, she shuts them entirely.
Avery’s thrusting, her heavy breath against her ear, and the occasional kisses along her arm are the only things swirling in her orbit.
Haley is close, and as if Avery senses every fiber of her, she stops the vibrations, keeping the toy inside her.
“Ave –” Haley wants to shout, but Avery grips her hand around her mouth.
She hums, smiling into Haley’s vision. Haley’s voice muffles against her palm. She would bite into it, but every strength has left her body.
“Listen to yourself. How drenched you are for me.” She huffs, thrusting the switched-off toy deeper into Haley.
“Hmm,” Haley groans against her palm, breathing heavily through her nose.
Avery retreats her hand, gently brushing her palm over the back of Haley’s neck.
“Are you okay, babe?” she asks softly, her voice carrying gentle concern.
“Yes, but please, I can’t take it anymore.” Haley shuts her eyes, but a smile escapes her mouth.
Avery places a sweet kiss on Haley’s shoulder before switching the toy to full speed, working it in and out of her recklessly.
Haley buries her face fully into the covers as she screams her lungs out at all the sensations overflowing her at once. The high consumes her, washing over her every cell, sending stars in front of her closed vision.
Avery guides her through her trembling, pounding out every coherent thought and sense from her body. Haley whimpers as tears form in the corners of her eyes, the intensity catching up to her.
As Haley’s breath subsides, Avery pulls the toy out, discarding it on the bed.
In mere seconds, she unties the rope as smoothly as she tied it before.
Still in a daze, Avery gently turns Haley around, her soft hands gliding along her wrists.
Her gentle hazel-brown eyes find Haley’s, while she kisses her wrists with so much care, so much love, it almost brings Haley to tears again.
“You did so good, babe,” she whispers as she snuggles beside Haley, brushing her fingertips along her cheeks.
“Fuck, that was intense.” Haley chuckles, still catching her breath.
“Too much?” Avery snickers, her thumb drawing circles on Haley’s cheek.
“No.” Haley turns her body towards Avery, her fingers brushing through her thick locks.
“It was perfect. You’re perfect.” Haley presses her lips on Avery’s for a kiss.
Avery‘s soft smile lingers over Haley‘s lips, her gaze peaceful. It’s calming and sweet — and it fills Haley with excitement, realizing that Avery thinks that was it.
Haley slowly showers Avery with kisses along her neck, earning a low hum from her girlfriend.
“Don’t think I won't get revenge,“ Haley smirks against Avery’s skin, her hand hovering over her still-clothed chest.
Avery chuckles, even though the flicker of her warm eyes gives away her attempt to seem unbothered.
As Haley traces one finger down Avery’s chest all the way down to the hem of her shirt, sliding her fingertip underneath it, she can see Avery’s skin shiver with million goosebumps.
You’re just as easy as me, baby.
Haley’s palm drags under Avery’s shirt, slowly pushing the fabric up, exposing her beautiful skin.
“Your clothes bother me, babe,“ Haley whispers.
Avery doesn’t seem to care about words — her shirt and bra already hit the floor next to the bed.
Haley smiles, sliding between Avery’s legs. Avery’s breath quickens as she locks her eyes with Haley, watching her unbuckle her belt.
The sight alone makes the ache between Haley‘s legs grow again. She could drool over her girlfriend all the time — she’s breathtaking.
After successfully freeing Avery from all the unnecessary fabric, Haley takes a moment to openly admire her girlfriend.
Avery squirms, her checks burning red. It’s too sweet how Avery folds under Haley’s gaze, not used to being worshiped like that — to be adored like that.
Haley slowly glides her palms over Avery’s thighs, her stomach, and finally, reaching her breasts, cupping them gently. As she leans forward, she positions herself in Avery’s lap, sitting on top of her.
She tries to ignore how the touch of Avery’s bare skin between her legs makes her soaking wet.
Avery arches into Haley’s touch, her face already flushed, her lips slightly parted. Instinctively, she traces her hands up to Haley’s hips, her grip firm.
Just in this moment, Haley stops caressing her breasts, a smirk plastered across her lips.
“You don’t get to touch me, Avery. Not unless I say so.” Haley blurts, pushing Avery’s hands off her hips, guiding them to the sheets of the bed.
Avery’s smug face is annoying and way too confident — but it’s nothing Haley can’t handle.
“What’s so funny, farmer girl?” Haley whispers, leaning forward while gently brushing a finger between Avery’s wet folds.
Avery squirms, her hands balling into fists, grabbing the sheets between them. As much as Haley is obsessed with Avery being dominant, she equally enjoys watching her crumble beneath her touch.
Avery bites her lower lip as Haley glides her finger deeper into her, still straddling her. She feels so good — and so ready.
Haley cups one of Avery’s breasts, pinching her nipple slightly between her fingers.
“Hmm,” Avery pants, pressing her lips together.
Haley’s satisfied expression paints all over her face as she darts her gaze over her girlfriend. Without a second thought, she pushes a second finger into Avery, making her hiss, knuckles turning white from her hard grip on the sheets.
She thrusts in and out of her as she leans over Avery.
“What is it, my love?” Haley mocks.
“I need to touch you,” Avery pants, her dizzy eyes trying to focus on Haley’s.
“Hm, that’s unfortunate,” Haley smiles, deepening the thrust of her fingers.
“Because if you touch me, I’m going to stop. And you don’t want that, do you?”
With her fingers deep inside, she pauses her motions, studying Avery’s face for an answer.
Haley looks deep into her eyes, waiting patiently.
Finally, Avery groans, shaking her head in frustration. It sends lightning through Haley’s body.
Haley places her palm on Avery’s chest, leaning forward to find a steady position on top of her while still working her fingers mercilessly.
“When can I touch you?” Avery whimpers, her gaze begging. It’s maddening to see her like that.
But it’s Haley’s revenge — and she’s going to act accordingly.
“Only when you’re about to come.”
Avery groans, shutting her eyes in response. She’s fighting everything inside her not to touch her.
Haley grabs Avery by the chin, forcing her eyes open.
“I didn’t say you can’t look,” she says calmly.
The look on her lover's face prickles over Haley’s skin. She’s divine — and so gone already.
Avery’s heavy panting and the noises of her wet folds are intoxicating, causing Haley’s desire to skyrocket. She leans closer over Avery, her lips hovering over her ear.
“Look what you do to me, making me drip all over you again. It must be horrible not to touch me.” Possessiveness washes over Haley, making her want to ruin her girlfriend under her entirely.
Avery moans in frustration, in pure bliss and lust. Her walls tighten around Haley’s fingers at those words.
“Please, Haley,” Avery mumbles, biting her bottom lip.
Haley retreats to look into Avery’s eyes.
“I want to come with you,” she adds, her eyes flickering with desperation.
Haley wants to drag this out more, to torture her girlfriend just enough to bring her over the edge. But her yearning, pleading voice makes it impossible to resist.
Haley lays down on top of Avery, their hot skin touching, while never lowering the pace of her thrusts. She tilts her head slightly, just enough to reach her neck.
“Fuck me then,” Haley whispers.
And that’s enough for Avery. She slips one hand into Haley’s hair, the other gliding down her back, finding Haley’s center still grinding on top of her. Her fingers thrust inside her from behind, matching Haley’s rhythm.
Their hot breaths brush against each other, their panting synchronising in perfect harmony.
Like they’re about to lose their minds, they keep pumping each other — it’s rough, loud, dirty. And it’s fucking heaven.
It doesn’t take long for the both of them to crumble into each other, moaning like they’re singing a duet.
As they both come, Haley loses sense of space and time, they’re bodies blending together, flying over the edge like in a distant galaxy.
Slowly coming down, Haley stays like that, letting herself be consumed by the warmth, by the embrace of her lover. She can’t tell how long they lie like that, their breathing ebbing down from the waves that washed over them.
Haley slowly glides to the side, without leaving an inch between them, and wraps herself around her girlfriend.
Avery tilts her head, her warm eyes so consuming, Haley gets lost in them in an instant.
“I love you, Haley.” The corners of her sweet lips soften.
Haley giggles. It’s too sweet, too genuine, too heartfelt for what they just did – and yet it’s everything Haley wants, everything she needs.
“I love you too, Avery.”
And she doesn’t think she’s going to love anyone like this ever again.

Chapter Text
The peacefulness of the evening fades away as soon as Avery and Haley stumble through the door in a heated kiss, turning the whole cabin upside down. It’s a miracle that they don’t fall over, and don't damage anything in Avery’s home.
Well – their home.
Because not only did Haley move in several months ago; she is also Avery’s wife now. And she is Haley’s.
This whole day felt like a dream, like a daze and like a distant memory, all at once. The whole town gathered to celebrate their love – even Avery’s parents came.
She can’t thank Yoba enough, but she is going to do so until her last breath. That is something she promised herself today.
The venue was gorgeous, the food was mouth-watering, and the people said the most heartwarming things Avery’s ever heard. Tears, hugs, kisses, dances – they shared it all today.
And then there is Haley.
The most beautiful, sincere, perfect, divine woman she had ever laid her eyes on.
She is a goddess.
And she is her wife now.
Saying that out loud almost tastes as good as Haley’s lips on her – almost.
The mermaid's pendant shimmers against Haley’s soft skin, her wedding dress wraps around her body like a present from heaven itself. The way her blue eyes break the warm light of the cabin into a million sparkling stars sends Avery into their own shared universe.
She could sit on this couch with Haley in front of her like that forever. She could even die on this couch and she would be grateful.
“I can’t believe you're my wife now,” Avery says, inhaling the sight of Haley, absorbing it so it imprints in her mind forever.
Haley chuckles sweetly, taking a step closer to Avery.
“Well you better believe it, because you’re not going to get rid of me easily,” she teases.
“Not planning to.” Avery smirks, moving her body up from the couch to close the distance between them.
She wraps her hands around Haley’s waist, burying her face in the crook of her neck. For a while, they inhale each other's scent, letting their embrace unfold in the atmosphere around them.
“I love you so much, Avery. You have no idea. I feel like the luckiest woman alive,” Haley whispers into her shoulder, sending shivers down Avery’s skin.
She wants to say something, return the gentle words, or at least kiss her. But Avery is so lost for words, she just pulls Haley tighter into their hug.
Avery can’t remember the last time she was so overwhelmed by her emotions. And if she thinks about it, maybe she never was until now.
“Babe, are you crying?” Haley brushes her hand along Avery’s back. It’s so soft – she can feel it even through the fabric of her suit.
“I’m sorry, I thought I ran out of tears for today,” Avery chuckles through her sobbing.
“Stop apologizing," Haley sniffs as she retreats from their hug to look into Avery’s eyes.
And there they are, giggling through their tears together, like they’ve promised to each other on the aisle several hours ago.
“Today was perfect,” Haley smiles, her hands gently wrapping around Avery’s shoulders.
“It was. And the bow-tie Emily sewed for Basil really threw me over the edge.”
“Oh my god, yes. I never knew I needed to see you and Basil in a matching look,” Haley giggles.
Avery’s lips hurt from all the laughing and smiling she did today. But she can’t help it, and she doesn't care either.
Never leaving her gaze, Avery starts to swing their bodies slowly, like they did before on their wedding dance. There is no music – and there is no need for it. Basil’s little snores, Haley’s gentle breathing, and the quiet creaks of the floor is more than enough.
She sways Haley around, her arms wrapping around her sides, hands landing on her stomach. They close their eyes as Avery rests her chin on Haley’s shoulder, whose head is relaxed against Avery’s chest.
God, this must be what heaven on earth feels like.
Haley’s soft palms brush along Avery’s arms, all the way down to her hands until she can intertwine their fingers.
Despite having a long, beautiful, exhausting day, Haley still smells like coconut and flowers. It’s just as intoxicating as the first time Avery was blessed with her scent.
It feels like home – it tastes like home. Avery traces her lips along Haley’s neck, a brush so slight she can feel Haley’s skin shiver against her arms. Her lips hover along her pulse point, feeling Haley’s beating heart vibrating against her touch.
Haley retreats one of her hands, gliding it behind Avery’s neck, her fingers burying into her hair. Her chest is heaving faster against Avery now, the pendant dancing with her movement.
Her breath catches as Avery bites her neck gently, making Haley grip her hair tighter.
“If you keep going like this, I might need to get rid of the dress,” Haley chuckles sweetly.
“Maybe that's the plan – even though I’m obsessed with that dress on you.”
Haley turns around slowly. Her gaze is soft and exhilarating at the same time. Her eyes trace along every feature of Avery’s face, like she’s observing the best things she’s ever seen.
There’s only so much Avery can take before her emotions overrun her again. But before she can lean into it, Haley takes her hand – heading straight to their bedroom.
As they reach the bed, she gently pushes Avery to sit on the edge.
Avery’s heart hammers against her ribcage at the sight of Haley in front of her. She has seen her like this the whole day. Yet, she just can’t get enough of it.
“You’re so damn beautiful, Haley. On the inside, on the outside. Everything, everything about you blows my mind.”
Avery’s corny, unfiltered gushing makes Haley’s cheeks burn hot.
“Stop flustering me, I’m trying to seduce you.” Haley snickers, her hands grabbing the sides of her dress. Avery is in awe that she can still make Haley feel shy.
“You’re already seducing me, Haley. You don’t really have to try.”
Haley’s big, ocean-blue eyes switch a tone darker at those words, like it was everything she needed to hear. Slowly, deliberately she unzips the back of her dress, gliding the straps down her shoulders. It’s hypnotizing.
The dress pools down at her feet, revealing not only Haley’s full beauty, but her white lingerie as well. She turns around, fully aware of Avery’s gaze, and bends forward to pick it up, hanging it over the armchair.
Haley putting on a show with her undressing is enough for Avery to feel her burning need shooting between her legs.
Her wife's skin is shining in the warm lighting, her silhouette throwing a long shadow on the wooden floor, almost reaching Avery.
It’s tantalizing as Haley slowly steps towards Avery, taking her time to lure her into her spell.
She reaches Avery, her tender fingers gliding along Avery’s suit, clicking the buttons open one by one. She strips down Avery, piece by piece, hanging the clothes over another armchair with so much care – like she’s displaying them. Her slow movements are seductive, every brush of her fingers electrifying.
Only left in their underwear, Haley stands in front of Avery once again, her attention fully on Avery’s eyes now.
“I’m going to show you how much I adore you.” Her determined, low voice drives Avery into a state of blissful insanity.
Haley spreads her legs over Avery, gliding onto her lap like she’s claiming her. The touch of her soft thighs makes her lost for words. Haley already has her wrapped around her finger.
She pulls her in for a deep kiss, dragging her hands along the back of Avery’s neck.
Avery feels like she’s about to lose her mind when Haley starts to grind on her slowly, agonizingly. Avery’s hands land on Haley’s hips, her grip firm. The friction, the movement is enough to draw a quiet gasp out of Avery’s mouth.
Haley breaks their kiss and smiles; it's soft and evil at the time. Then, she leans forward, her breath brushing against Avery’s ear.
“I’m going to ride you, and I know you’re going to let me,” she whispers.
“Because you would do anything for me, right, my love?” Her words and the nibbling on Avery’s earlobe drive her crazy.
This woman is madness, and Avery wants to be taken apart by that madness every day for the rest of her life.
She could do everything, no matter what. Avery would take it, cherish it with every fiber of her being.
Haley’s nails bury into Avery’s hair as she brushes her soft lips along her wife’s. Her tongue finds its ways around Avery's just enough to make her yearn for more.
As Haley bites down Avery’s lower lip, a whimper escapes Avery’s mouth. At this moment she decides that their underwear is too much of a barrier between them. Before Avery can act on it, Haley reads her mind and opens her bra with one move, discarding it on the floor.
Avery wants to dive into her skin, shower her with kisses, with licks, with bites – with everything she has. But of course, her wife is faster again.
“Sit against the headboard, my love. And lose the rest of your clothes on the way.” Haley retreats from Avery’s lap, leaving her cold without her touch.
Haley’s spell makes Avery move without hesitation. She sits down on the bed, already naked as she was told. Her heart pounds in her chest in anticipation, eagerly waiting for what Haley has in mind.
Her wife moves with so much confidence, her naked skin shimmering in the warm light of the bedroom. She loves being watched, having Avery at her mercy – without a touch, without a word.
Avery could watch her all night and still, the urgent need to have Haley all over her grows unbearable every passing second.
Determined, Haley pulls a harness out of their cupboard, the toy already attached. Even though they use it occasionally, it is one of the bigger ones they have in their collection. Avery is sure they never used this one before, and it makes her palms sweaty at the sight of her wife holding it in her hands.
She crawls onto the bed slowly, making her way up to Avery like she caught her right where she wants her to be.
Her beautiful eyes pierce through Avery’s as she comes to a pause right between her legs. This sight is unraveling, and the way Haley’s lips curl into a smirk drives her insane. How is this woman even real?
For a long moment Haley pulls Avery into her deep-blue eyes, undoing her with just a glance.
Without a word she unclips the harness and wraps it around Avery’s hips proficiently. Avery gulps at the touch, the tightening straps making her awfully aware of her own burning need between her legs.
Avery can barely control her breathing at the sight of the toy attached to her, and Haley right behind it – kneeling between her legs with a gaze so hungry it’s consuming.
It’s even harder to control when Haley squeezes a handful of lube over the toy, spreading it everywhere she needs it, and taking her sweet time with it as well. She stops, her hand still cupping the base of the toy.
“Is that how you like me? How you want me?” Her voice is sultry, her gaze serious, making Avery’s mouth dry with every word. Avery isn’t sure how to make it through the night without passing out. It’s so unapologetic, the way her wife takes what she wants – and so insanely attractive.
“Yes,” Avery whispers, her words getting lost in her throat.
Haley’s expression turns from serious to mischievous, her eyes sparkling with victory. Slowly, she rubs the rest of the lube between her own folds. It’s embarrassing that Avery feels like she could just come from this sight alone.
And luckily, Haley seems like she doesn't want to wait any longer either.
Her body hovers over Avery as her hands find their way onto her chest. Slowly, she spreads her legs over Avery’s sides, lowering her hips to the tip of the toy. She gasps at the contact, gliding herself halfway down.
Avery doesn’t know where to look; the way her wife loses and takes control at the same time makes her head spin. Haley’s heavy breathing and parted lips, the grip of her nails in Avery’s skin, her messy, blonde shimmering hair, and the way she lets the toy disappear inside her like it’s nothing is something Avery didn’t know she needed in her life.
As Haley’s hips meet Avery’s, she takes her time to adjust to the fullness. Avery wants to put her hands onto her hips, to stabilize her – but instead she grabs the bedsheeds around her.
“What? Getting shy now, my love?” Haley smirks through her labored breath.
“You drive me crazy,” Avery whispers, her eyes traveling all over Haley’s body before catching her gaze.
Haley smiles, leaning closer to Avery’s face. Her sweet scent brushes along Avery’s lips.
“Good.”
Still leaning forward, Haley slowly starts to draw circles with her hips. Even without direct contact, the friction against Avery’s folds is enough to make her feel it. Finally, she manages to grip her hands into Haley’s soft hips.
Even though it is more for Avery than for Haley. Because her wife takes over both of them instantly, her hips dancing in her own rhythm. Her moans echo through the room as she keeps undoing herself on top of Avery.
Without stopping, Haley comes closer, pulling Avery into a deep kiss. It’s intoxicating, uncoordinated with the desire taking over them, making them break their kiss and gasp into each other's mouths instead. Avery can’t help how gorgeous her wife looks despite what they are doing right now – her swollen lips, the tiny sweatdrops on her forehead, her slightly furrowed brows, her long eyelashes, her flushed cheeks, the endless freckles embellishing her face. The list could go on forever.
“I bet you’re soaking wet seeing me like this,” Haley hums, grabbing Avery by her jaw.
You have no idea.
Her flushed face and the grip is enough to ruin Avery.
She trembles as Haley paces up her movements, going back and forth with the pressure hitting just the right spot for Avery.
Haley grins at her reaction, her blissful gaze glistening with lust.
“Do you like it? Seeing me like this? Taking you so well?” Her low humming voice vibrates against Avery’s neck. This woman is going to kill me.
Avery is lost for words, and she rarely is. She only nods, and if it wasn’t Haley in front of her, she would think it's pathetic. Luckily, she doesn't care.
She isn’t ashamed to show how much she loves being taken apart by her – in every way Haley wants to.
Haley places a sweet, quick kiss on Avery’s lips before she leans back, her hands steadying herself on Avery’s thighs. Her intense gaze shoots through Avery, completely aware of her full display now.
She keeps grinding, her eyes never leaving Avery’s as she undoes both of them.
Avery can’t help but moan at the sudden change, the sight of her lover in front of her. Haley puts on an unashamed show, grinding with fast and heavy pressure. She tilts her head back at the intensity, and pushes her chest up, displaying the mermaid’s pendant in its full glory. The shimmering blue necklace around Haley’s neck bounces along with her movements, reminding Avery of her treasure. She’s sure she’s just entered heaven's gates in this moment.
Haley’s pace quickens, making both of them throb with pleasure. One hand releases Avery’s thigh, moving towards Avery’s mouth instead.
She brushes her fingers along Avery’s lips for a moment – before gliding them inside. Avery’s moan muffles as she takes them in, her tongue brushing along their full length. Haley pushes them further, inside and out, as Avery sucks in anticipation.
“You’re mine, Avery. Say it.” Haley groans.
“I’m yo-urs.” Avery mumbles against Haley’s knuckle-deep fingers.
Haley moans at those words, moving her hips more relentlessly now. She is close, her struggling pace gives her away. Avery’s own urge is as if erased – being replaced by her need to bring her wife over the edge instead.
Haley pulls her fingers out, her moans turning high pitched as she leans over Avery, grabbing her back. Her fingers bury into the flesh of Avery’s skin desperately.
“I need more,” she whimpers against Avery’s crook of her neck.
“I’ll do anything for you.”
Avery’s arms wrap around her wife, pulling her close. She bends her knees slightly to gain more control and grabs Haley’s butt at the same time. Without hesitation she moves her hips up and down, pounding just in the right rhythm to drive a delicious symphony out of Haley’s mouth.
Noises of rhythmic moans and their wet, slapping skin against each other fill the room. Avery has never been more grateful to live far away from the city center than right now – because this is theirs. It’s their mad, passionate, symbiotic world.
Haley squirms and squeezes her thighs, gripping Avery’s hair tighter between her fingers.
“You’re so good to me, Avery. You fuck me so good.”
Avery chuckles through her heavy breathing. With what Haley is whispering it might be the other way around.
She buries her nails into Haley’s skin further, recklessly thrusting her hips to bring her wife to another dimension.
“Oh, fuck,” Haley whimpers before her body gives in, shuddering, trembling, collapsing on top of Avery. Her aftershocks vibrate against Avery’s sweaty body, as their steady breaths begin to ebb, to synchronize in peace.
Avery’s delicate fingers caress Haley’s back, her hair, her hips to relax her through the intensity.
The sweet aftercare doesn’t take long, since Haley seems to have another devilish plan in mind.
She leans up, her glistening eyes glance into Avery’s. Still locking eyes, her hands move down to the toy, slowly gliding it out of her. While straddling Avery, she unclips the harness and tosses it to the corner of the bed.
Avery’s heart picks up its rate, pounding with echoes in her head as Haley leans back again, placing her hands on Avery’s thighs. She arches her hips up for Avery to have an unreserved view between her legs.
“Look what you do to me,” she whispers with a low voice, bucking her hips slightly.
Avery gulps, her mind spins at the sight of how filthy her wife is. She can’t help but look at the mess they’ve made, but that’s exactly what Haley wants.
“You’re insane,” Avery hums, balling her fists around the bedsheets.
“Only for you. You make me like this.”
Avery fears the moment of passing out is about to happen now. She’s never seen Haley like this, like a switch turned the moment they’ve said their vows. It drives her wild, her own desire backfires this very moment, crashing her with full force.
Haley bites her lower lip, her lingering gaze still wandering around Avery’s face, like she’s waiting for her to crumble under it. And goddamn it works; it works too well.
Avery can’t take it anymore and still, there is no way for her to say anything right now. Words catch in her throat at the way her wife takes over, unraveling her piece by piece.
Haley glides down slowly, carrying her thigh between Avery’s legs. It’s impossible to escape her eyes. It’s magical, the way she lures Avery into her embrace.
Gently, she pushes her folds against her wife’s. Avery twitches at the contact, reminding her of her unbearable need. Haley adjusts both of them, pulling Avery’s knee up to gain more control.
“I need to feel how wet you are for me, Avery.”
Haley’s soft fingers trace a line down to Avery’s stomach, before burying them into Avery’s skin.
Loud, soft moans echo out of their mouths as Haley pushes herself into Avery, rubbing their wet folds together ruthlessly.
Avery loves to feel her like this. It’s intense, consuming, like they’re melting together into one whole. Even though she isn't always able to come in this position, it’s more than enough to bring her closer to the edge. Haley riled her up more than she realized.
Her tantalizing movements blur Avery’s vision, fading the sight before her eyes. But then, a rough grab at her throat snaps her out of her trance.
Haley’s grip is tight, just enough to make Avery’s breath catch but not cut it off entirely. Her eyes are dark, the ocean-blue replaced with storm-gray. They glisten with possession, and Avery is certain she turned into the devil this very moment. Her usual sweet sunflower; radiating something demonic, claiming, obsessive. And Avery can’t get enough of it – she’s just as obsessed at the mercy of her woman.
“Mine,” Haley growls, tightening her grip just a little more. It’s enough to make Avery see stars.
Avery’s hand releases the sheets, gripping Haley’s wrist on her throat instead.
“Yours. Take me,” she chokes out, trying to hold their eye contact.
But the last thing she sees before closing her eyes is the evil smile plastered across Haley’s face. She barely manages to breathe – and it’s not because of the tight grip around her throat.
“Come for me, baby. Come all over me.” Haley pants, her voice shaking.
Their thighs clamp around each other tightly, the pressure hitting perfectly as the waves crash both of them out of reality. The feeling of Haley drenching, coming against her own folds sends a violent shaking through every inch of her body. The heavy moaning dissolves into the thick air around them.
As Avery opens her eyes, her wife already slid off, scooting close next to her. Avery glides down the headboard, her body defeated. Her chest moves heavy, breathing out the intensity of her release.
Haley’s light fingertips hover over Avery’s chest like a feather. Her contented breathing is accompanied by a low hum, bringing the peacefulness from the beginning back to their room.
Though Avery is still speechless, Haley’s body warmth brings her back into the sense of reality. Her wife never seizes to amaze her, to surprise her, or to overwhelm her. She’s never felt like this before with anybody else; she wasn’t even sure if she was capable of feeling such emotional depth.
Those blue shimmering eyes staring into her soul prove her wrong once again.
“Are you okay, baby? You seem deep in thought,” Haley’s index finger brushes soft circles over Avery’s cheek.
She leans into her touch, smiling softly as she finds Haley’s stunning eyes.
“You never fail to amaze me, Haley. I don’t even know what to say; you stole all of my words today.” Avery chuckles as she runs her thumb over Haley’s lips.
The way Haley’s glances tickle on Avery’s face make her feel like she’s going to melt into a puddle right on this bed. She’s so beautiful.
Haley hides her face against Avery’s neck, pulling her close into her embrace. She wraps her hands and legs tighter around Avery’s body, intertwining them like she never wants them to be apart in the first place.
“I’m yours, too, you know,” she mumbles against Avery’s skin. It’s adorable.
“I know. And I have a feeling that you’re going to remind me of that every day.”
“You know me too well.”
Their soft giggles echoing off the walls contrast the heavy lust from before.
“We should get cleaned up,” Haley chuckles, going back into her sweet sunflower mode like nothing had happened.
“In a second. I just want to enjoy our first night as wives a little more,” Avery snuggles against Haley’s chest.
“We’re going to have that every day now, my love. And I can’t wait for a lifetime with you.”
Haley’s words bloom in Avery’s chest. It’s so simple, so honest, and yet it brings her to the verge of tears once again.
Before emotions overtake her, she leans in and pulls Haley in for a soft kiss. It’s not heated like before; it’s tender, loving.
It’s a promise. And it’s not only one they made on the aisle; it’s one that Avery will choose to make everyday. And the feeling of Haley’s soft lips makes her believe she will choose to do the same.

Chapter Text
The calmness and tranquility of their shared, married life filled Avery’s chest with gratitude every morning. Several years ago, when she was miserable and alone in Zuzu City, she almost gave up on love entirely. She didn’t think this would be something life had in store for her and eventually, she made her peace with it. When she moved to Pelican Town, she wanted to rebuild her life from the ground and fix the shattered pieces of her past.
Until Haley came along and turned her world around.
Not only did she prove her wrong, she also showed Avery that she deserved more than what she had hoped she would find in this valley.
Avery never gets tired of waking up to the blonde, shimmering hair next to her. The warmth, familiarity and Haley’s sweet morning giggles are everything she needs to be reminded of how much love she finally gets to feel.
Only that the space next to her is cold.
Avery scrunches her face when her consciousness fully returns, bringing her back to reality. Sunrays flood their bedroom, brightening the space around her so much it’s almost blinding.
Fuck, I must’ve slept in.
She stumbles out of their bed and scurries to the bathroom. When she looks at the reflection in the mirror, she is greeted with a sleepy face and messy hair. Wow, that must’ve been the deepest sleep she’s had in a while. Especially when she didn’t notice Haley getting up sooner than her.
She rushes through her morning routine at lightning speed, like it would make up for the lost time somehow.
However, her guilty conscience vanishes the moment she enters the open living space. Haley is at the kitchenette, humming along to the radio as she swirls the sizzling pan. It smells heavenly.
“Are you making breakfast?” Avery snickers, entering the kitchen space.
“I don’t like your surprised tone, Avery.” Haley shoots, even though her slight smirk is visible when she turns her face slightly.
“I’m sorry,” Avery laughs as she takes a step closer to the plentifully set table.
Haley really thought of everything: brewed coffee, warm bread, colorful fruits, vegetables from the farm, even freshly pressed orange juice.
“I just never thought you would wake up before me and prepare the most delicious-looking breakfast of my life.”
Haley's sweet giggle echoes through the kitchen when she turns around to portion the omelette on their plates. Just as she finishes, her striking blue eyes captivate Avery’s.
"Well, it's 10am already, so I thought I might as well do something useful.”
“What?!”
Avery surely can’t remember the last time she slept until 10am. It could be years, it could be never.
Haley’s gaze turns more serious when she gestures to Avery to sit down. They glide into their chairs, with Haley sitting at the top corner of the table and Avery right next to her left side. The sitting arrangement somehow evolved naturally, so they can see each other's faces perfectly without a whole table dividing them. Usually, they need to be closer than that.
“Avery, relax. The crops look good and healthy, the animals are happy and Basil is running around sniffing every new flower he can find. You’ve built a farm that basically runs on its own, you deserve to sleep in every once in a while for Yoba’s sake.”
Haley’s firm voice shoots electricity through Avery's body. Luckily, it doesn't distract her from what her wife just said.
“It’s our farm.”
“Huh?” Haley’s brows furrow as she takes a sip of her coffee.
“Our farm. You're part of it.”
Haley’s soft lips curl into a sweet smile, before she casually takes a bite from her omelette.
“It’s your hard work, babe. I’m just lucky I get to watch every day.”
Even though Haley looks so unbothered and sweet right now, Avery has never disagreed with her more than she does now.
“That’s bullshit.” She takes a long, slow sip from her orange juice. Her tastebuds are about to explode with how good it tastes.
Her wife's beautiful, shimmering eyes glance at Avery’s once again. She looks flustered, maybe even a little intimidated or caught. But that won’t change anything about Avery proving her point once and for all.
“Who repairs the fences? Who cooks a new mouth-watering dish every day? Who takes care of our house? Our newborn calf? I could go on forever, but if you're going to praise me don’t forget to praise yourself along the way. You taught yourself everything as well. We’re in this together.”
The sight of Haley’s rosy cheeks is worth living for. She gulps before finishing the last sip of her coffee.
“Okay, okay. I got it,” she scoffs sweetly.
They giggle, they tease each other, hold hands over the table, and enjoy the breakfast to the fullest. Those moments fulfill Avery more than any adventure she could have in this town. She loves the thrill of the mines, the regular festivals, the beaming heat of the sun in Calico Desert. But none of that could ever live up to this kind of perfection.
“Thank you for this incredible breakfast, baby.” Avery hums after a while.
The dishes have already met the kitchen sink when Haley grabs both of their cups. Of course, she insisted on cleaning the kitchen as well, not letting Avery help her in any way.
“You’re very welcome, Ave.” Haley says in a sultry voice and winks.
With the cups in her hands she turns to the kitchen sink to continue her generous spoiling.
Avery really wants to help, but she does know better than to disobey her wife’s order. She feels warm knowing that Haley wants to take care of her so much – even if her ways are hard to endure, since Avery can’t relax for the life of hers while watching somebody else do the work.
Haley’s immediate humming makes Avery realize that the music still spills from the radio’s speakers. The song is new to her, but it doesn’t matter because Haley’s voice is far more captivating anyway. She has a beautiful voice and Avery deeply wishes she would catch her singing sometimes. It would surely swipe her off her feet. Well, at least she still has a lifetime to get that out of her wife someday.
Even though Haley’s back is facing Avery, she can’t take her eyes off her. Haley is breathtaking, that’s nothing new. Still, in those quiet moments she can’t help but admire her in awe. Long, blonde curls spread over her back, flawlessly connecting to her curves that paint along her sides effortlessly. The skin of Haley’s long legs shimmer in the sunlight shining through the window. Her hips sway slightly to the rhythm, making her skirt fly from side to side. Avery hates her wife’s skirts as much as she loves them. It’s just impossible to fight inappropriate thoughts when Haley looks like that.
And from the chair Avery is sitting in she has the perfect view of Haley’s round butt.
She feels insufferable, having so little resistance against her rising urge. But before she can stop herself, she rises from the chair to take a step closer – and smacks Haley’s ass.
Haley’s hands grab the edges as she lets out a choked gasp, her body freezing against the counter.
“Sorry, couldn’t resist,” Avery chuckles.
But when Haley doesn’t react, Avery’s heart stops for a moment. The tingling in her hand from the smack and the way her stomach flips make her realize that this might’ve been too much.
Shit.
Avery circles around, pressing herself against the counter next to her wife.
“Haley, baby. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you or anything, I just got carried away a little and…,” the panic that rose in Avery’s chest changes into confusion the moment Haley’s flushed cheek greets her vision, her sheepish gaze trying to avoid Avery’s at any cost.
No fucking way.
“Oh my god. You liked that, didn’t you?”
The way Haley huffs and covers her face with her hands is unbearably adorable, it makes Avery want to marry her all over again.
Avery grins to herself, even though she tries her best to hide it. She inhales deeply before brushing her hands against Haley’s, gently pulling them away from her face.
Haley’s gorgeous face may be visible again, still her eyes look down. It’s like she was caught for doing something bad – and it makes Avery’s heart throb. She should never feel humiliated with her, but she also knows it takes some time and courage to be that vulnerable.
So Avery waits, patiently, while her thumbs circle the back of Haley’s hands. Those striking eyes will find hers eventually.
And they do.
“It’s embarrassing,” Haley mumbles after taking a deep breath. Slowly, her gaze falls back into Avery’s eyes.
“Haley, princess, my beloved wife,” Avery smiles, gently stroking along Haley’s cheek.
“Please don’t be ashamed of your desires. I will love you in every way you need. I would do anything for you.” And Yoba knows she means it with all her heart. There’s nothing Haley could possibly do, say or like that could drive her away from Avery.
Haley’s shoulders relax and when her eyes gleam with relief, Avery wants to throw herself all over her.
But this time, Avery slows down her urge, bringing her mouth to Haley’s neck instead. Her kisses are feather-light – it’s barely a touch. Still, Avery’s lips tingle from the shivers on Haley’s skin.
As Avery gently pushes Haley against the counter, her kisses turn heavier. Haley’s fingers bury in her wife’s hair, her body already giving into Avery’s touch.
Slow, deliberate licks wander up her neck, like Avery wants to taste every inch of her. As she reaches Haley’s earlobe, she stops.
“Let me pay you back for breakfast,” Avery whispers.
Instead of using words, Haley’s lips use another way to respond. She pulls Avery closer into her body and wraps her hands around Avery’s neck, pressing their lips roughly against each other.
Every hinge of hesitation or embarrassment wash away the moment their kiss deepens, and the way Haley’s body already melts against her own makes her dizzy with desire.
Avery loves the peaceful, domestic life they have together – she wouldn't want it any other way. Some would say it’s boring, repetitive and not an exciting way of living. But their sex life is a harsh opposite to their loving and tranquil relationship; it’s a wildfire. After all the time they’ve been together, they still can’t get enough of each other. Sometimes, their intimacy is slow, loving, soft; other times – it’s the sheer opposite.
They switch control, can be rough and demanding, want to be taken apart by each other like it’s the only way to survive. And god, Avery didn’t know how fulfilling and exhilarating their intimacy could be. It rocks her world every time, because with each time they make love – it only gets better.
And this time, a little smack was enough to fuel her into another world of existence. One where she wants to make sure that Haley is never going to want to be with anybody else, ever again.
Avery breaks their sloppy kisses with a bite on Haley’s bottom lip, causing her to gasp into her mouth. And when she squeezes her butt, a full moan escapes Haley’s lips.
That’s all she can take.
Not breaking their intensive kissing, Avery throws her around and presses her against the edge of the kitchen table.
To catch her breath, Haley retreats, shooting her blue eyes at Avery’s. She looks so innocent, and yet her pleading eyes give her away – pupils as wide as her sinful desire behind them.
Avery wants to give in, to please her woman in every way she needs. But at the same time, the urge to make her say it, to force her to beg for it, seizes her body beyond coherent thinking.
She twists Haley's body once again, this time, pressing her against the edge with her hips. It draws a dull, strangled moan out of her. That’s enough to raise Avery’s desperate need to bring out the full palette of the noises her wife can make. She wants to hear all of them, every passionate sound that can cut through their quiet morning.
One hand snakes around Haley’s throat, squeezing tightly. The other finds its way under her skirt, digging her nails into her soft cheek. Haley’s body stiffens around her embrace, her hooded eyes already gleaming with anticipation about what happens next.
“Do you need me to do it again?” Avery whispers into her ear, tightening her grip.
The feeling of her wife’s heartbeat quickening against her own chest drives Avery insane.
But her nodding is not enough for her to continue.
She keeps Haley in place like that, holding her in position without a chance to escape. Avery glances across her face, patiently waiting for Haley to finally give in.
“Take me,” she shudders against Avery’s touch.
The smirk on Avery’s lips grows when she bends Haley over the kitchen table.
Visibly, that took Haley by surprise, her body freezes when she clenches her thighs together.
But Avery doesn't give her time to protest, taking the fabric of her skirt to pull it over Haley’s back. It feels like unwrapping a present when her sight lights up with all the beauty beneath.
Still gripping Haley’s cheeks, she leans forward, pushing her hips into her wife. The sudden pressure forces Haley to grab the edge of the table with one hand, the other desperately trying to find something else to hold onto.
Avery smiles at the sight of her beautiful wife already struggling to control her body. Her first impulse is to restrain her, grab her wrists behind her back to hold her in place. But watching Haley fall apart sends an even bigger jolt through her body. For now, she wants to see Haley’s baby-blue nails dig into the wood of the table.
“You say your word and I’ll stop, or slow down. Got it?”
Avery makes sure to hold eye-contact to make her point loud and clear. Haley returns the glance over her shoulder with lustful eyes while half of her face is pressed against the table top and her cheeks flush with heat. When she shoots a sultry ‘yes’, Avery loses every last restraint she had left in her body.
She leans back into her previous position, taking in the heavenly sight of her wife spread across the kitchen table, patiently waiting to be ruined in whatever way Avery has a mind.
After a moment, Avery lets go of Haley’s cheeks, smacking one with her flat hand instead. It’s not as hard as before, but it’s enough to draw a silent grunt out of Haley. The look on her wife’s face tells her that she can take more, and she knows that.
The second slap is harder, causing Haley to jolt forward and grab the edges of the table. Her tanned skin turns into a deep shade of pink after mere seconds. Avery can’t help but drool over the sight of it – it’s enthralling.
Yet, she needs more. She wants to drive Haley crazy, just the way she does to Avery.
So without a word, Avery glides her fingers under the hem of Haley’s string, and strips it down to her ankles.
Haley’s face spreads confusion and excitement at the same time when Avery leans forward kissing along the small of her back. Just as she reaches her neck, she replaces her kiss with a small bite, causing Haley to gasp slightly. Avery glides up just a little further and when her lips almost reach Haley’s ear, her finger lingers between Haley’s legs. The contact causes a choked moan.
“I’m not going to stop until you drip down your thighs."
It’s an announcement, a command and a threat all at once.
So Avery sticks to her promise, making her next smack harder this time. Finally, Haley’s gasps turn into moans, just the alluring sound Avery was aiming for. She keeps going relentlessly, her flesh turning darker with every slap.
“You're taking it so well, baby.” Avery mumbles.
Haley twitches at those words, digging her nails into the wood. She is already glistening with desire and it makes Avery’s mouth water. She desperately wants to taste her, to dive into Haley’s waters and get lost there.
But instead, she glides her fingertip inside, enough to feel her. Haley’s muffled groans get lost along the kitchen table, her frustration trembling through her body visibly.
“Mhm, maybe I’ll help you out a little?” Avery spills, keeping her mocking tone.
Haley’s moans dampen even more when Avery glides her finger deeper inside her wife. Slowly, her thrusting chases a steady speed. She knows it’s not enough to bring Haley over the edge and that’s exactly what she is anticipating.
Never breaking her speed Avery keeps curling her fingers, smacking Haley every now and then. Even though her eyes are closed, Avery can feel every inch of desperation radiating from her woman's body. She can’t get enough of this blissful sight. Her movements are nowhere near where Haley needs them usually, and still she can feel her wife getting closer to her climax, already clenching around her fingers.
But that surely won’t do.
Something consumes Avery, making her want to test the limits further than that.
So she stops, pulling out just before Haley can come undone. She paints her wet fingers over Haley’s cheeks like a reminder.
“Fuck, don’t stop!” Haley groans in frustration, her hands desperately clenching into fists.
Avery’s smirk grows unbearably, she keeps her eyes on Haley’s to make sure she can see them over her shoulder.
“Where’s the fun in that?”
And with that, Avery lowers herself to her knees. Still not giving into her urge to taste her, she bites Haley’s lower legs instead just enough to leave a taint mark. All she can hear is her wife’s frustrated gasps and a bang of her fist against the kitchen table.
Just the way I want you.
This small victory clouds Avery’s mind, firing electricity through her veins. Her hands wander up Haley’s legs, all the way to her reddened skin. Haley squirms when Avery digs her nails into her flesh, her mouth only inches away from where she belongs.
The firestorm spreads in her chest when she flicks her tongue, only gliding the tip between Haley’s legs.
“Fuck you, Avery,” Haley growls, her voice on the verge of breaking.
Avery smirks when she stops, rising from the floor. She stops for a moment to take in the irresistible woman in front of her.
Haley’s chest moves heavily with her breathing, her stunning face is flushed, and her silky hair is already a mess, spilling all over the table. To Avery’s eyes, she looks like a masterpiece.
“That’s not a good way to get what you want, babe,” Avery declares with a stern voice.
Avery is a very patient person, so she fights her first instinct to prove her point with another smack.
Instead, she crosses her arms, circling around the tablet to get closer to Haley’s side.
She lowers her hand towards Haley’s hair and gently moves a strand out of her face. The soft touch makes Haley look like she is about to crumble.
In this vulnerable state Haley looks more pleading than ever before. And even though Avery is so willing to give in right now, she can’t help but let her viciousness get the best of her.
Her finger still hovers over Haley’s features when they finally stop at her lips.
“You can do better than that, don’t you think?”
When Haley’s lips part, a long sight escapes, like she was holding it in for eternity. Her thirsty eyes glisten, never leaving Avery’s when she obeys, taking her fingers all the way up in her mouth.
Satisfied, Avery keeps the act up just a little longer, never moving them in the slightest. She lets Haley do all the magic instead, knowing she’ll reward her even more than she might expect.
Haley’s tongue dances around Avery’s fingers hungrily, her gasps turning heavy.
“Just like that,” Avery grumbles.
Haley whimpers, her eyes dreadfully begging her to stop.
“Please,” Haley mumbles against her fingers.
Slowly, Avery pulls out, leaving a long strain of Haley’s hard work between them.
“I’m wet enough. Please–”
The way her voice quivers, echoing off the kitchen walls finally breaks Avery’s restraint. She will give it to her, but it’s going to be on her terms.
“That’s for me to decide, princess.”
Keeping her stance next to Haley she snakes her fingers along her back, all the way down between her legs. Avery can’t help but grin when she realizes her wife was right. She’s more than ready to take her.
Haley’s hips twitch, moving along Avery’s lazy motions. She bites her lower lip and the strength to keep her eyes open leaves her body in an instant. Chasing release, Haley’s struggling movements turn impatient, uncoordinated.
A hard smack forces her ocean-blue eyes open, her brows knitting in agony.
“Don’t move, baby. Or I’ll stop.”
In this moment Avery is sure she reached the limit. Haley’s aching gaze and muffled moans paint her suffering all across her face. She expects her to say her word, to make her stop her endless teasing, but instead – her dizzy, lustful glance pierces through Avery’s soul.
“Yes. I’ll be good for you.”
That’s enough for Avery to thrust two fingers inside Haley without an ounce of hesitation. And this time, she moves relentlessly. Haley‘s body trembles against all her efforts to keep her motions in place. It’s twisted – the way Avery thinks it’s cute despite the filth taking place on the very table they’ve just shared the most peaceful breakfast at.
“Oh, fuck!” Haley whines against the surface.
Her hands quake, desperately finding something to hold onto. This time, the urge to restrict her woman overcomes Avery, bringing Haley’s wrists over her back. Effortlessly, she keeps her in place with only one hand, while the other keeps working mercilessly.
“Don’t st- ah, don’t stop,” Haley whimpers, clenching her confined fists.
And Avery doesn’t.
Even though she can’t see from this position, she feels her wife soaking all over her. It drives her insane, clouding her vision and fighting her own desire with such a dirty sight right in front of her. It’s obscene – and she’ll be damned for how much she loves it.
Haley chokes on her own gasps when she cramps her thighs together. She almost cries out when all her pent up lust spills out of her, shaking her core against the table.
Her breathing turns heavy when she opens her eyes into a tight slit.
Avery smiles softly – but she doesn't stop.
“Again,” she commands, never lowering her pace.
Haley growls, but when her eyes roll in the back of her head Avery is confident in Haley’s obedience.
Avery puts more pressure on her hand, holding Haley in place just the way she needs it. She made her a beautiful mess and Avery can’t help but gasp at the thought of it.
She curls her fingers along her movements and just mere seconds later – the table beneath shakes violently when Haley comes all over her, hard.
Haley’s body gives in, relaxing under Avery’s grip. A long breath escaping her throat when Avery pulls out slowly. It’s just too sweet of her, to think they are done here.
“One more,” she says, gliding back inside.
“Ah– I can’t take it anymore–” Haley sobs.
“You can. Be good like you promised.”
Haley’s groans cut off when only sounds of pleasure fill the kitchen. Her messy hair covers her flushed face and her hands are balled into fists under Avery’s firm hold.
Seeing Haley melting into a puddle under her embrace is otherworldly, making Avery feel like she could come just from this sight alone.
And with that, she doesn’t hold back, chasing Haley’s high with her thrusting. Haley turns her head and presses her forehead against the wooden surface.
When she reaches it this time, there is no shaking, no desperate sounds, no tightened fists – only silent whimpering.
Without second thoughts, Avery releases her wife and caresses her back softly. Finally, Haley turns her face towards Avery, small tears covering her flushed cheeks. The warm, blue color of her heavy-lidded eyes flash Avery when she smiles sweetly, yet defeated.
Luckily, the kitchen is connected to the open living room, making the couch tempting in near sight.
Without a word, Avery helps Haley from the table and pulls her up from the ground into a tight hug. Haley wraps around her instantly and rests her head in the crook of Avery’s neck.
Cautiously, she lays Haley down onto the soft couch and nuzzles along her body. They cuddle up, holding each other tightly in their arms. Haley’s tender fingers caress through Avery’s long hair gently when their breathing synchronizes. It’s almost as calm and peaceful as in the beginning of the day.
“Are you okay?” Avery mumbles into Haley’s chest.
“You’re crazy. I won’t be able to walk today.”
Avery feels her wife’s laugh vibrate against her face. One of her favorites sounds from Haley’s palette.
“We can just lay here all day,” Avery places a gentle kiss on Haley’s neck.
“Never thought I’ll hear that from you.”
“Well, you said I should relax, and I’m relaxed now.”
“You’re one to talk,” Haley huffs.
“Why’s that?”
“You’re not the one who was fucked on our kitchen table.”
The giggling, the teasing, the kissing – it feels like they are having their usual mornings, waking up next to each other. Like there was never a wildfire storming through their kitchen just a minute before.
Eventually, moments pass, making it impossible to tell what time it is by now. Avery is more than happy to not care about that in the slightest. Before she can doze off in the warm embrace of her wife, her soft humming snaps her out of it.
“What are you thinking about?”
“About how fucking hot you are.” Haley blurts bluntly.
Avery’s cheeks heat up at those words and right now she is outright grateful to have her face buried in Haley’s chest.
“You’re one to talk. After all, you’re the one getting fucked on our kitchen table.” Avery snickers confidently.
“Oh, shut up!” Haley groans, shoving Avery so hard she almost falls off the couch.
A deep laugh escapes her chest. This could never get boring to her. If anything, she can’t imagine living without it ever again.
“I’ll get my revenge on you.”
Even though Avery can’t see it, she can hear the shit-eating grin on Haley’s face.
“Looking forward to it.”
This might’ve been enough cockiness for Haley. Silently, she picks herself up from the couch and grabs Avery’s wrist, confidently leading the way to the shower.
Avery took a risk, a big leap of faith moving to Pelican Town. All she could think about was the uncertainty and the hard work ahead of her. She never even dared to dream of having a life like this someday. Because most of her life, she was running, always moving. And now, she finally gets to stop, to slow down. It feels impossible to wrap her head around and get used to the fulfillment spreading through her chest everyday.
And when she thinks about it – she might never want to get used to it.
