The Targaryens across the Narrow Sea

Summary:

If you want to read the matching story for this information, please first read up on “Family Tree, generations, birthdates and bloodmath” and then the real story under “this is how it should have been” on my profile.

well as you are aware from my previous work about the family tree, a part of that is incomplete.

I will rectify that with this chapter.

This is the story of the Essosi Targaryens, the descendants of Saerea Targaryen.

How the Essosi TG and the Westerosi TG met

Vaegon (28 AC on DS) studied the history of the TG with ferocious curiosity and was especially taken by the story and legacy of Saerea TG, who married the Lyseni Yarko.

As he reached his 31 nameday, he discovered through multiple contacts and informants, that not only the descendants of Saerea were alive, but also nothing less but hiding from prying eyes such as his own.

Daemion, Grand Duke of Tyrosh was the first to respond to his letters, and informed him, why the members of his family where so hesitant to enable contact with their Westerosi relatives: “With our history we don’t trust anyone anymore. Our foremother was wronged to her bones. She was promised a Valyrian prince and all she got was a whoremonger, drenched not only with the blood of anyone that dared to speak against him, but also his praised impeccable lineage was nothing but a farce. He indeed could date his lineage back to the doom, but from there on after his lineage was spread far and wide, with commoners and dragonseeds, noblefolk with not one ounce of Valyrian blood in them. Saerea always wished for her children to enable the one thing she was denied: she wanted them to intermarry with the clan again, for them or their children to inherit eggs or a dragon grown. When she realised her lineage was tainted, she was distraught. She couldn’t show her face anymore, not to her family, who still thought highly of their son-in-law. She vanished without a trace, hiding herself and her children. She vowed to establish her own empire through her family, and that we did.”

Vaegon then proceeded to show the correspondence to his brother, the king: Jahaerys immediately met with Daemion, as well as other members of the Essosi TG, enabled Vaegon to be the leading figure of contact, meaning that he and he alone was responsible for trade, communication and personal affairs.

Soon, unbeknownst by his children and grandchildren, the old king drew up a contract, that when the time was right, the two branches of their great house would marry again.

There where conditions to uphold:

1. all children born of these unions where to be born and raised on DS, at least until they where 5 years old (to learn old Valyrian and how to handle their mounts as well as to honour their culture and their family above all else)

  • Also, bringing them to DS is a precaution as to determine of they are even able to bond with a dragon

2. Westerosi princes and princesses could take their dragons to Essos, but after their demise, they where to return to DS immediately, as well as the corpse of the deceased, to perform the rituals and to lay them to rest.

  • another condition to that point, the dragons and their respective riders have to bring every egg to DS, as the Dragonmount has the best care for the rather delicate eggs
  • the treaty states that the new riders are to be monitored and tested frequently, concluding in the fact that any child or married relative of the Westerosi TG is to spend a substantial amount of time (differing from 3 to 6 months, depending on age and training level) on DS, as for their training and of course secretly, binding them to DS and the TG clan there

3. All children born of these unions were to be raised under the 14 flames.

4. None other than the King/Queen of the Iron Throne was the one they answered to, no other Lord or noblefolk had any authority over the Essosi TG

5. The time period of when to begin with planning betrothals was set for 85 AC

6. PV is a must: only TG with impeccable breeding are able to score betrothals on both sides

The Essosi Targaryens were invited to DS without further delay, coming and going from the island frequently from henceforth. Due to these circumstances, the other members of the Westerosi TG soon met their relatives, bonded, established deep friendships and trade conditions. The Essosi TG had every contact and tool in their shed to supply the Westerosi TG with antique items from Valyria as well as original craftsmanship *essosi as well as valyrian.

  • the Essosi TG have a trading empire in essos, with the focus on Valyrian artifacts, the manufacturing of Valyrian furniture, tapestries, statues, books etc.
  • they also employ the craftsmen and provide tools and materials (hard to come by and expensive)

Alicents children are not able to score a betrothal with the Essosi TG as their lineage is tainted and it would be a grave insult to the contract and the named conditions
