Work Text:
Seungkwan broke up with Mingyu three months ago.
Well– tried to break up with Mingyu, three months ago. In Seungkwan’s initial opinion, it was a success. There were no tears, no dramatics. A quick, painless parting. He pulled out all of the stops, really.
It’s not you, it’s me. I just need some space to work on myself. I’m not ready for anything serious. Your idol career gives me crippling anxiety and our relationship is an HR violation.
You know, the usual.
Fine. For the sake of being fully transparent, Seungkwan will admit that he left that last part unsaid. Putting that small, insignificant discrepancy aside, he was genuinely well prepared. He thought it over in his head for two entire weeks before going through with it!
Asked for sick leave and used up all of his free days to muster up enough brain power in solitude to think of a way to break things off without making it awkward, considering they’re contractually obligated to continue working together for the foreseeable future.
In the end, the solitude turned out to be a bad idea, so after days of coming up with nothing, he decided to turn to Chan and Wonwoo. In hindsight, that was the stupidest decision he could’ve made considering the frustrating fact that they’re high school sweethearts- and each other's first loves- who haven’t ever even thought about breaking up with each other, let alone gone through the motions.
Nevertheless, he sat them down in his apartment, waited for Wonwoo to take off the fifteen pounds of clothes he put on to avoid getting recognized, and gathered all the courage he could muster up for this moment of emotional vulnerability. Took a deep breath, put all of his faith into Chan to warn Wonwoo about not spilling anything to Mingyu, and began explaining everything.
Now, like he’s already said, they were initially not helpful at all. Like, he can't stress it enough. They were doing the exact opposite of what Seungkwan invited them over for. Chan started kind of freaking out, and Seungkwan swears Wonwoo went on WikiHow to try and coach Seungkwan on the how to's of a break up.
However, after a few painful hours, they did prove to be somewhat useful. Gave Seungkwan a pep talk and bought him, not one, but two bottles of wine. His friends know him well, creative inspiration always hits him best when he’s neck deep into a Sancarre.
The next day, he bravely invited Mingyu over and sat him down on his couch, similarly to how he situated Wonwoo and Chan. Kind of leaning back, but also sitting upright.
It was of utter importance for him to talk to the exact same version of Mingyu he had been speaking to in his head for the past twenty four hours. And that version of Mingyu was kind of leaning back, but also sitting upright.
However, that version of Mingyu wasn’t freshly showered after a gym session, not to mention in a black muscle tee and gray sweatpants, which was a horrible oversight on Seungkwan’s part, but he pushed through the initial horniness successfully.
It took him a bit, but he got there.
All in all, he had Mingyu in and out of his apartment within thirty minutes. Quick, painless. Like he’s already stated, an initial success. He was so relieved when it was done he almost cried. Mingyu was so kind, so patient, and even left Seungkwan’s house with a small smile on his face.
So, all in all, a successful breakup, right?
Wrong.
That smile, that he now recognizes as one of amusement, should’ve been Seungkwan’s first sign that something was terribly amiss.
Two months and forty attempted break ups later, Seungkwan was stumped. Mingyu was either suffering from some serious brain damage, or he was hellbent on ruining Seungkwan’s life.
After the first break up, Mingyu acted like nothing happened to the point where Seungkwan thought he hallucinated the entire ordeal.
He had to run to grab something from Chan the day after, while Mingyu and the rest of HHU’s members had dance practice. Ran into the vast, mirrored room in a flurry, about to walk up to Chan– his mouth forming around the words– only to get manhandled, pressed up against a mirror and kissed half to death in front of everybody.
Everybody!
When it was over, Seungkwan was a blushing, splayed out mess. He couldn’t even remember what he came there for, and Chan, in his shock, forgot what choreography he was supposed to teach.
Mingyu got Chan to forget choreography! It became clear to Seungkwan then, that the situation is exceptionally dire, and that it needs to be dealt with immediately.
So, Seungkwan broke up with him again.
Really laid it on him thick. He felt kind of bad, considering Mingyu has the personality and overall constitution of an overgrown puppy, but it had to be done.
Brought him over to his office– which was really just a random office inside the company building, since, technically, Seungkwan doesn’t have his own office– and sat him down citing a serious conversation.
Seungkwan made it crystal clear that they are over and that they cannot, under no circumstances, be together anymore. He was completely sincere, even going as far as admitting what he previously held secret. Confessed that their age gap makes him feel somewhat insecure, that sometimes, he doesn't feel like he's enough.
Sure, he got kind of red in the face, and he could feel the blush warming the tops of his cheekbones, but– ultimately– he did it! He broke up with Mingyu properly!
Cute. And also, once more, wrong.
Apparently, Mingyu also has the attention span of an overgrown puppy, because, not even a second after Seungkwan's emotional closing statement, he bent him over the desk and fucked him. Had Seungkwan holding onto his dear life, trying desperately not to make a sound, cursing whatever higher force brought Kim Mingyu into his world.
Mingyu made him come like two times, but that’s besides the point. He got Seungkwan cleaned up to the best of his ability, bid him farewell citing meetings with management– aka Jeonghan– and left.
And that would be it, if Seungkwan was dead set on blaming these failed attempts at breaking up fully on Mingyu. Unfortunately, it does take two people to fail at a break up. Seungkwan would know, he's practically a professional at this point.
So, for full clarity, he will confess that in a moment of weakness– a bit before Mingyu left– faced with the image of Mingyu fussing over his shirt, slivers of honey skin peeking out above the hem of his jeans, Seungkwan committed a grave offense. Practically blacked out, and when he came to it, found himself squirming on Mingyu’s lap, sucking hickeys below the collar of his shirt unprompted.
Before you say anything, Seungkwan was fucked out, and in a daze. You can take him to court for it– he will plead insanity.
The other times he tried to break up were just as unsuccessful. If not worse.
Somehow, it always ended up with Mingyu in his bed, or Seungkwan in Mingyu’s lap, or Mingyu on his knees. Or with Seungkwan dragging Mingyu into closets for quick make-out sessions, unable to resist his warm hands and pliant mouth.
He just couldn’t resist. Mingyu is always so good for him, so polite and gentle. Seungkwan always thought he was too sweet, too willing. Bending to his every whim, his every plea. Too nice, too tender. Taking every chance to spoil Seungkwan rotten.
At least, that's what he initially thought, blinded by the halo on his head. He was wrong. Mingyu is evil. That halo is fake.
At one point, Seungkwan didn’t even know what was real and what wasn’t. One day he’d break up with Mingyu, the other, Mingyu would bring him dinner. The break up speeches he used to work so hard on, have– at that point– lost all flair, his passion for the dramatics he used to love, completely gone.
However, when all hope was lost, one break up seemed like it would change things for the better.
Simply put, Seungkwan and Mingyu fought. Well, Seungkwan did most of the fighting, really. Mingyu just watched him fall apart.
Seungkwan came home to Mingyu napping on his bed, a picture perfect scene of domesticity, everything Seungkwan desperately wants but can’t have.
He immediately burst into tears, effectively waking Mingyu up, and told him it had to end. That they have to end.
That he’s too scared of Mingyu’s career and what comes with dating an idol, that Seungkwan is too afraid of the possibility of being the reason for not only his, but also his group's ruin.
Seungkwan would never forgive himself for that.
What if the fans find out that he’s with Seungkwan, seven years his senior, and they lose it? What if he gets fired, and blacklisted, and he can never work again? What if HHU has to disband? Even worse, what if only Mingyu gets kicked out, and it’s all Seungkwan’s fault? It all weighed too much on his heart.
When he finished, his cheeks splotchy from the incessant crying, all Mingyu did was give him a warm hug, a kiss on the forehead, and leave. It broke Seungkwan’s heart in a way he didn’t think was possible.
But, it’s what he wanted, right? He decided then that breaking up was the best course of action, and he still stands by that decision.
After that, Mingyu was good. Polite. He was still too touchy, and very obviously obsessed with Seungkwan, but that’s how he was before they even got together, so Seungkwan didn't think much of it. He has long given up on trying to change that.
There was just one problem. One that Seungkwan has only pinpointed after their third unsuccessful break-up. They are insanely codependent. Like, on a level he can’t even explain.
Sure, like Seungkwan has already stated, Mingyu really has been good. The physical aspect of their relationship was practically entirely gone. There were no more post break-up fuck sessions, no more heated kisses and most importantly, no more of Seungkwan’s pathetic phone calls in the middle of the night.
Which aren't inherently really physical, but if you could see how tired he'd get after crying into the speaker for three hours straight, you'd understand why he listed that.
All in all, for a short while, he didn't really mind the state of their relationship. Mingyu was– and still is– a good friend somewhere in between all the fucking, dating, and the messy break-ups. He’d say their unlikely post-breakup work relationship had at some point, somehow gotten even stronger, and again, Seungkwan didn't mind that.
What he did mind is how that only seemed to have cleared the way for something more evil, more innately sinister to float up to the surface.
Cock-blocking.
Insane, surreal levels of cock-blocking. To put it simply, they’ve- in Seungkwan's opinion- managed to come to terms with their relationship ending but also, somehow, kept unconsciously ruining things for each other.
Not that Seungkwan particularly enjoyed seeing Mingyu on dates, but he’d never outwardly intercept to scare the other person off. At least he doesn't think he would've.
He's pretty sure he has class. And couth.
The real issue is, he doesn’t even really have to try. One time, Seungkwan could tell Mingyu had a thing going on with a girl. It wasn’t explicit, or especially out there, but he could tell. She was sweet, and pretty, landing next to Seungkwan like a dove on a perch to ask about vocal coaching while Mingyu was finishing up dance practice.
They were engaged in a lovely conversation about the worrying state of vocals in the K-Pop industry these days, until Mingyu came out of the practice room and practically flung himself over Seungkwan.
Dragged Seungkwan like a rag doll into his sweaty, disgusting chest, before tipping his head down to nuzzle into the crook of his neck. Complaining, muttering, grumbling about how mean Chan is to him and how Seungkwan should make it better.
Mingyu didn’t even notice her.
And frankly, Seungkwan wasn’t any better. He forgot the poor girl was next to him until he realized that she left somewhere in between the manhandling and the swift punch to the stomach Seungkwan had to deliver to get Mingyu to lay off of him.
It’s safe to say, he hasn’t seen– or heard from her, for that matter– ever since.
That got Seungkwan thinking. Was it really a coincidence? Was Mingyu trying to prove something to Seungkwan by ignoring her, or is that just how he is? He thought he knew Mingyu well enough to be able to figure out his intentions, even going as far as defending his need for physical intimacy at first, attributing it to his clingy personality- but after recounting encounters that had a similar outcome, he wasn't so sure of Mingyu's innocence anymore.
So, he spoke to a professional in the field.
Seungkwan was so befuddled by Mingyu's incessant post-breakup manhandling that he tried bringing it up to Seulgi– Mingyu’s longest standing stylist– once. She’s the most acquainted with his physical nature, considering it’s literally her job to dress him.
“Okay, first of all,” she said then, needles in hand, as she worked on tailoring the two piece suit Mingyu was set to wear for their upcoming MAMA red carpet, “Just because I know his measurements doesn’t mean I know what he does with them.”
She fussed over the waist of the coat, expression perplexed as she decided on the best way to cinch it, make it more fitting. Mingyu’s physique is a gift from God, Seulgi knew that best.
Well, second best. Seungkwan would say he’s more acquainted with it.
“And second of all,” she continued, placing the pins a particular spot, which Seungkwan could tell was located at the swell of his chest, “Isn’t he your boyfriend? Why don’t you ask him why he’s like that?”
“Well, no," Seungkwan said begrudgingly, sat on the chair next to her as he chewed on the plastic straw of his iced americano, "We broke up."
Seulgi stilled for a second, before turning her head and tilting it in question. She looked more shocked than Seungkwan thought she would. Seungkwan looked at her quizzically, confused by her surprise, his expression seemingly startling her back into talking.
“You did?”
“We’ve been broken up for like, three months.”
“I had to alter his stage outfit because of two strangely Seungkwan shaped bruises on his neck four weeks ago.”
“Touché.”
Seungkwan put his cup on the table next to him dejectedly, placed his elbows onto his knees and leaned his head onto his open palms. He muttered, miserable.
“It’s more like I tried breaking up with him around three months ago. We only really broke up, like, last week.”
Or has it been two weeks? Seungkwan wasn't sure anymore. He’s genuinely so bad at this. No one warned him that dating an idol entailed permanent brain damage and a paycheck that can’t pay off the medical expenses of treating it.
She hummed in acknowledgment, adjusting her burgundy-rimmed glasses and turning back around to continue tailoring. She fiddled with the cloth in silence for a bit, until she started with a sigh, “Mingyu is always, well, like that. All bear hugs and overbearing affection,”
“But it’s always been different with you, and you know it. No purpose in trying to deny it.” she finished, shrugging.
And she was right. From the moment they met, Mingyu was obsessed with Seungkwan. Turned his world upside down. He was so brazen with his affections, his desire always so obvious. Seungkwan was downright scandalized at first.
He’d run away from Mingyu every time he saw him around the company building, in the beginning. It was so bad Chan debated going to HR.
Seungkwan had to remind Chan that he was in a compromising relationship as well, considering Wonwoo was practically his junior, and that no, it doesn’t matter that Chan is younger than him by two years and that they’ve been dating since forever. HR doesn't care about any of that, let alone the fans.
Wonwoo dating, or even just looking at a person, is still, by popular fan opinion, the number one worst thing that could happen in the world. Ever. It doesn't help that he's almost as popular as Mingyu, which is on its own a startling achievement.
It’s safe to say that put Chan off of HR complaints successfully.
Don't get him wrong, Seungkwan wasn’t offended by Mingyu’s affections. On the contrary, he was secretly ecstatic. He’d get pink in the cheeks, stutter around him, get crimson splotches on his chest from the excitement, the constant blood rushing. It completely caught him off guard, the way in which Mingyu wanted him.
What caught him even more off guard, was the way he wanted Mingyu back. Not once in the thirty one years of his life has he ever felt about someone the way he did– does– about Mingyu. They worked perfectly. From their chemistry, to their relationship, everything was perfect.
Seungkwan felt safe, loved. Desired. Mingyu was a perfect boyfriend and an excellent lover. Always put Seungkwan and his needs first, his every wish Mingyu's command. He was such a lovely, gentle puppy. Just for Seungkwan.
So, yes. With all of his quirks and his incessant pouting that he always somehow blamed Seungkwan for, he is a perfect partner.
Correction. Was a perfect partner. Because they’re not together anymore. As per Seungkwan’s wishes, that he totally doesn’t regret.
Back to the cockblocking.
“—Let me get this straight,” Chan starts, breaking Seungkwan out of his reminiscing, as he swiftly punches in the code to the entrance gate of their company building successfully, turning to face Seungkwan as he walks through it, “You think Mingyu is cockblocking you on purpose, but you also don’t,”
“And you’re also cockblocking him, but you’re not actually trying to?” he continues, confused, statement trailing off into a question.
After a brief silence, and before Seungkwan can answer, Chan speaks again, “And you doubled down on the whole no-skinship thing because you like the new intern? But now you’re upset because Mingyu... listened to you?”
Admittedly, that last part is new. Chan rudely interrupted Seungkwan before he could introduce Xu Minghao to the plot.
Minghao is Jihoon’s newest, shiniest underling– much to Yerim’s chagrin, notoriously his favorite intern– and a new person of interest in Seungkwan’s life.
He’s a producer who transferred from the branch of their company located in China to broaden his musical knowledge– his words, not Seungkwan’s– and the complete opposite of what Seungkwan thought he wants.
To put it simply, what Seungkwan wants is Mingyu. But we've already established that Mingyu is not something he can have.
Mingyu is all big smiles, bear hugs and loud affection, while Minghao soothes Seungkwan, balances him out and cares for him quietly. He’s also around Seungkwan’s age– well, more specifically, two years older.
To put it simply, it’s not controversial, or subject to fan criticism. He won’t get blacklisted and forced to wear a disguise everywhere he goes if thing turn sour.
Most importantly, Mingyu will be safe. And at the end of the day, that’s really all Seungkwan wants.
And, he really does like Minghao! How suave he is, how different he is from what Seungkwan is used to.
He wants to at least try building something with him, but ever since Mingyu’s gotten news of Seungkwan’s affections from other sources– aka Jeonghan– he’s been downright impossible all over again. It's like he momentarily decided to forget everything Seungkwan ever told him.
Again, Mingyu isn’t outright doing anything, but as previously established, all they have to do is exist near each other for every hypothetical boundary to disappear like it was never there.
Schrodinger's boundary, or something. Hansol taught him that.
Sure, nothing has happened– yet. It doesn’t mean something won’t, considering how suspiciously polite Mingyu has been. Seungkwan only wants to get rid of the possibility of Mingyu pouncing on him right in front of Minghao.
He feels like the most unreliable narrator ever! He doesn't know what to think anymore.
Mingyu is just really too unpredictable! It gives Seungkwan a headache. For such a busy guy, Mingyu has way too much free time on his hands. One day he's nice, the other he isn't. At first, Seungkwan thought Mingyu finally understood that it's over, and that they're doing great at being co-workers slash friends, and the other, Mingyu gives him a cryptic one-liner that has him thinking that maybe he's been wrong the entire time.
They're practically still at square one, just without the fucking. Square one point five, maybe.
It's scary! What if he suddenly decides to revert to the incessant touching, the scalding looks he'd send his way when he thought Seungkwan wasn't looking, and people start talking again?
Seungkwan had to make sure Mingyu would be good.
So, he decided to be the bigger person and approach Mingyu like the mature, thirty one year old he is, and talk to him about it. Man to man. Whatever that means.
He carefully picked out the right timing– between the end of his vocal lessons with Seokmin and the beginning of HHU's meeting with Jeonghan, exactly one week ago.
Dragged Mingyu into a meeting room on the practically abandoned third floor of PLEDIS Entertainment all self-importantly, and sat him down onto one of the chairs by pushing at his shoulders.
“You've been good, but you need to be, like," he says, eloquently finishing as he motions with his hands, "good-er.”
Mingyu looked somewhat small, practically swallowed by the oversized hoodie he was wearing. Seungkwan thought he looked kind of cute, but that was not the right time for those sentiments. He had to focus.
He tilted his head in question, his eyes round with confusion as he repeats, “Good-er?”
“The looks, the weird things you say to me," he started, "Especially the touching. I need to be certain that it won't happen anymore." Seungkwan said, crossing his arms decisively.
Now, Seungkwan might seem uncharacteristically composed. Truth be told, he was vibrating from the second he grabbed Mingyu by the shoulders and felt the muscle beneath his skin as he sat him down on that chair.
But, overall, Seungkwan felt pretty confident, kind of like he had the upper hand, which was rare in situations like these.
It's just his luck that, at that moment, as Mingyu processed Seungkwan’s words, something happened.
Seungkwan doesn’t know what that something was, but Mingyu’s entire demeanor suddenly shifted. All he knows now, as Seungkwan-from-the-future, is that he should've brought a bat with him into that fucking room.
In an unbelievable show of utter childishness, Mingyu straightened up in his chair, not looking so small or cute anymore, and shrugged, replying simply, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Seungkwan, who was entirely sure Mingyu was fully aware of what he'd be implying, practically balked at his response. Uncrossed his arms, letting them fall by his sides, along with his composure and steadfastness.
The nerve! Mingyu had to be messing with him! There was no way he wasn't aware that he's a Seungkwan-obsessed maniac! That is, unless Seungkwan’s suspicions about brain damage are correct.
“Are you– Do– What?!” Seungkwan tried, completely flabbergasted, “What do you mean you don’t know what I’m talking about?! We literally had this conversation already!"
Mingyu tipped his nose away from Seungkwan, like the brat he is, and said, “I really don’t, hyung.”
Seungkwan tried to gather himself, desperate to get his point across, "It needs to stop, Mingyu. I–”
“There’s someone I want to get to know better. And for that reason,” Seungkwan shook his head, frenzied as he spoke, suddenly feeling emotional, “It can’t– We can't happen anymore. I need you to–”
As he rambled, Mingyu calmly stood up, an undecipherable expression on his face as he slowly backed Seungkwan against the wall, his hands in his pockets, all previous traces of childishness suddenly gone. Seungkwan tried to continue his sentence, but the closer Mingyu got, the harder it was for him to speak.
When his back hit the hard, uncomfortable surface, Mingyu tipped his head lower until his forehead was practically against Seungkwan’s, their breaths intermingled.
“Continue. You need me to do what?”
“I– I need you to–” Seungkwan tried, but the words couldn’t come out. That close to Mingyu, he could feel the familiar blush erupt, adorning the tops of his cheekbones. His legs felt like jelly, his tongue rendered useless.
He opened his mouth, the words on the tip of his tongue, to no avail. All he could do was squirm, avert his eyes and shift on his feet nervously as he tried to find his voice again.
Mingyu smiled after analyzing his face intently, nodded– obviously pleased with whatever he found– and moved away from Seungkwan, granting him some reprieve.
“Hyung, at this point you should know I’ll do whatever you want me to.”
After that, he left.
It took twenty minutes for Seungkwan to calm down, and forty for him to try and understand what the fuck happened.
He came up short. For some reason, even though he practiced over and over what he wanted to say, his presentation was awful. He totally failed to predict what Mingyu would do and he’s pretty sure his voice cracked at one point which is embarrassing for him, not only as a human being, but also as a professional vocal coach.
All around, it was horrible. And it's all Mingyu's fault.
Mingyu is a terrible brat whose sole purpose in life is to mess with Seungkwan, he’s sure of it now. He didn’t even let Seungkwan get his point across! Instead, he used some weird intimidation tactic to get Seungkwan to shut up!
How dare he disrespect his senior so blatantly!
Seungkwan stops his movement for a second to regard Chan, pointedly ignoring the obvious snark behind his comments, and answers, scowling, “Yes. That is exactly what the problem is,”
“He didn’t listen to me, he just intimidated me like some– some caveman!” Seungkwan exclaimed, arms flailing, “So brutish!”
Chan hums thoughtfully, a habit he picked up from Wonwoo, and replies, “Well, you don’t actually know if he listened or not. You haven’t seen him since, right?”
“Yeah– Stupid Monster promotions,” Seungkwan grumbles out, “What do they need a vocal coach for if all they do is rap and never let me, like, vocally coach them?”
Chan looks like he’s thinking about it for a second, before he asks, “They did I can’t run away recently though, no?”
“That was, like, last year. Fifteen paychecks ago.”
Chan whistled low, patting Seungkwan on the back in an attempt to console him, “Yeah, hyung. That’s tough.”
They make their way to the elevator door, chattering as they wait for it to arrive. They hit just about every mark– how early Chan had to wake up to rally the backup dancers for HHU’s 3AM music show recording, what Seungkwan ate last night, how Seungcheol’s awfully apparent crush on Jeonghan might be his end.
The elevator dings to signal its arrival, and they’re just about to walk in, before Seungkwan’s jaw flies wide open, as he's faced with the nightmare-ish image of none other than Minghao and Mingyu chattering casually inside of it.
They exit the elevator, still engaged in conversation, until Mingyu spots them and speaks.
“Oh, Seungkwan-sunbaenim. Hello.” Mingyu says simply, bowing to him.
…Seungkwan… sunbaenim?!
Oh, so that’s how he's playing this.
Seungkwan's suspicions have been confirmed. Mingyu has somehow figured out Minghao is the person Seungkwan is interested in. This is his version of listening to Seungkwan and being good-er. This brat! He has never called Seungkwan sunbaenim even before they got together! It was hyung, from the very beginning!
Alright! So be it. Two can play that game.
Seungkwan briefly bows back to Mingyu, before redirecting his attention to Minghao, “Minghao-hyung, hi! I thought you weren’t coming in until the evening?”
Minghao is more perceptive than Seungkwan thought, his demeanor shifting almost imperceptibly as he notices the tense atmosphere surrounding Mingyu's and Seungkwan's interactions.
Thankfully, he ultimately chooses to ignore it in favor of smiling at Seungkwan and getting closer to him as he answers his question.
“I wasn’t supposed to, but Jeonghan called me,” he starts, and then points a finger at Mingyu, “Apparently this one wanted to meet me and talk about something,”
What the fuck? What the fuck?! Forget everything Seungkwan has said!
He was wrong! He was so, so terribly wrong. Mingyu is worse than a brat, He’s a demon! This is so out of Seungkwan’s depth he can’t even think of his next course of action.
“And I have an inkling of suspicion that that something is not music.” Minghao finishes, his warm, carefree smile in contrast to what he’s implying. Seungkwan smiles back and briefly wonders who he should invite to his own funeral.
Minghao is so obviously entertained! This is so embarrassing! Maybe he’s not as different from Mingyu as Seungkwan initially thought. The universe insists on sending him evil, horrible people.
“Well, after Mingyu figures out what it is he so desperately wants to talk about, you should come meet me for that grand tour of my current favorite office that I promised you.” Seungkwan says to Minghao, hit with a sudden and unexpected wave of courage.
More accurately, he's pretty sure he's only able to stand upright right now because he's in fight or flight mode. For some reason, against all logic, it seems like he wants to fight. Wonwoo is right, Seungkwan is too stubborn for his own good.
Curse Jeon Wonwoo and his wisdom.
“Oh!” Mingyu exclaims suddenly, eyes innocently lighting up as he addresses Seungkwan, “Sunbaenim, could it be the one on the third floor? Near finance?”
He doesn’t let Seungkwan answer, his face shifting into something deviously wolfish, as he adds casually, “I like that one too.”
Seungkwan has to consciously fight the overwhelming urge to let his jaw fly open, once more.
That. It can’t be– Mingyu can’t be serious. He actually can not be serious right now. Seungkwan is frantic as he runs the tape over and over in his head, each time trying, begging for a different outcome, to no avail.
Oh God. No, no– it’s definitely that one. Judging by the persistent, disgusting faux-innocence on Mingyu's face- it has to be it.
Failed Break-Up Number Two : Extreme Edition. Mingyu is talking about the office where he bent Seungkwan over a desk and fucked him.
Seungkwan is one hundred percent sure that’s the room he’s talking about, because he knows he ran out of there as discreetly as he could, to avoid running into Jeonghan who just had a meeting with the head of finance.
Mingyu is horrible! He’s the worst! Awful, terrible brat! Stupid pervert! He’s not a puppy– he’s– he’s something way worse! Seungkwan has to say something before his mind is overrun by the images of getting fucked within an inch of his life, and consequently gets himself boiled alive by the blush that will unavoidably rise on his face if he doesn't.
“I’m not sure which one you mean, Mingyu," he says through gritted teeth and the phoniest smile he could muster up, before he turns back to Minghao, “Hyung, are you free in about three hours?”
Minghao, somehow even more amused than before, approaches Seungkwan even closer and gives him a gentle pat on his head, “Sure, Kwan-ah. I’ll text you, yeah?”
For a split second, Seungkwan can see how focused Mingyu is, as he trails the movement of Minghao's hand with his eyes, donning that same complicated expression he had when Seungkwan begged him to stay good. However, he says nothing.
They bid their farewell's to Seungkwan and Chan swiftly, as they make their way over to the cafeteria to have a conversation about God knows what. Seungkwan would like to think ignorance is a virtue in situations like these, so he will choose not to think about it any further.
The second the elevator door opens again, Chan and Seungkwan run into it, huddling close like two teenagers. Chan is frantic, as he holds onto Seungkwan’s shoulders, his eyes crazed.
“That was so fucking crazy,” he says, whisper-shouting, “Hyung– they didn’t even say hi to me. They didn’t even notice me!”
“You’re in like, a K-drama or something,” he continues, frenzied, unable to stop, “This is crazy. I need to call Wonwoo-hyung.”
Seungkwan is suddenly very tired, as he pleads, “Please don’t call him. I can barely handle one of you.”
Chan ignores his plea, moving away from their makeshift huddle, and walks around the elevator as it moves, “And the way Minghao-hyung patted your head, what was that?!”
Seungkwan is about to ask Chan to stop asking questions Seungkwan doesn't have answers to, but he’s stopped by his phone dinging incessantly, signaling that he’s received a barrage of messages. He sighs, fishing out his phone and groaning when he sees it’s from none other than his current mortal nemesis number two– only second to Mingyu– Yoon Jeonghan.
Only his messages would be able to come through the signal-blocked zone of the elevator.
Yoon Jeonghan.
Kwannieeeeee~
Come to my office! ^___^
Hyung is bored.
Seungkwan rolls his eyes, before typing up a quick reply, pointedly ignoring the way Chan is peeking over his shoulder to read their messages.
(you)
What do you want.
Yoon Jeonghan.
Just comeeeeee
(you)
No.
Yoon Jeonghan.
I’ll call Mingyu and tell him to bother you.
Chan’s resounding gasp is so shrill, Seungkwan has to duck his head away from him to avoid permanent eardrum damage. He wishes he was surprised by the threat, in truth, he fully expected it.
Threatening him with anything Mingyu related has become Jeonghan’s favorite way of ensuring Seungkwan never says no.
(you)
Fine.
I’ll be there in 10.
“Hyung, you’re just going to let him win?!” Chan asks, shocked at Seungkwan’s easy acquiescence.
“I can’t risk it, Chan-ah,” Seungkwan sighs, defeated, “Jeonghan might be crazy, but Mingyu is crazier.”
Still, in a futile show of resilience, fueled by Chan’s outrage, he types out and sends Jeonghan a short, pointed I hate you. Simple and efficient, an attempt at getting the last laugh.
The fifteen heart emojis he gets in response only serve to solidify an ancient truth– there are no last laughs when it comes to Yoon Jeonghan.
He moves over to press the button for the fifth floor, and sighs dejectedly, admitting defeat silently.
Seungkwan finds himself standing in front of Jeonghan's office way sooner than intended. He arrived there almost embarrassingly swiftly.
He just really can't risk having Jeonghan actually order Mingyu to bother him. And Seungkwan knows, from past experience, that Jeonghan genuinely would. He spares no mercy for his human subjects.
He wills himself to wait for two more minutes, before taking a deep breath and knocking on the door, keeping up the pretence of politeness. As he slowly pries it open, his hand immediately stills on the handle once he processes what's on the other side. Confused, he tilts his head, pouting as he calls out.
"Seokmin?"
For some reason, in the middle of Jeonghan's office, sits— well, more accurately, lays— Lee Seokmin, one of Seungkwan's favorite idols to coach. An incredibly versatile soloist, a remarkable singer, not to mention endearingly cheerful and an overall delight to work with.
Taking all of those traits into consideration, Seungkwan is at a loss, faced with the questionable image of Seokmin face-down and practically splayed out over Jeonghan's table.
Jeonghan only turns around at the sound of Seungkwan's voice, completely ignoring Seokmin, and addresses him casually, "Oh, Seungkwan. You came."
"You didn't really give me a choice," Seungkwan grumbles, coming in and shutting the door behind him, padding closer to look for signs of life in Seokmin.
"I thought you said you were bored?"
Jeonghan blinks, "Well, I am. He's been here for an hour and he still won't leave," he continues, more to himself than at Seungkwan, "I'm literally not even his manager."
"But you're my friend," Seokmin suddenly says, his voice muffled by the wooden table, "So technically, you're more qualified for this than Joohyun-noona."
"Qualified for what?"
Jeonghan elaborates simply, "He wants me to kill him."
"Oh," Seungkwan exclaims, slightly concerned, "And can I ask why?"
Jeonghan looks at Seokmin as he waits for him to start explaining, rolling his eyes after a few seconds of silence pass when he realizes he'll have to do it for him.
"He had a few slip-ups during recording. Missed a few notes, or something."
Seokmin raises his head up, expression peeved, "I didn't miss a few notes," he repeats, offended, "I couldn't reach the high note, like, at all. My voice kept cracking!"
He's about to continue his tangent, before his phone dings in his pocket. He straightens up, looking semi-professional as he fishes through his bag for it, probably thinking it could be work related.
However, a groan leaves him as he reads through the contents of the message, raising his head and leveling Seungkwan with a glare that can only be described as deadly, startling him.
"What?" Seungkwan asks, apprehensive.
Seokmin quickly raises the phone to his eye level, prompting Seungkwan to squint his eyes to scan the text, alarmed by the bright screen. Slowly, they widen as he finishes reading through it, a hoarse groan erupting from the depths of his throat.
Kim Mingyu (Don't Answer)
have you seen seungkwan
Unbelievable.
At this point, Seungkwan is sure of it– it's definitely brain damage.
Kim Mingyu is seriously too much. Does he do this on the regular, just casually texting other people about Seungkwan's whereabouts? As an idol with years of experience, he should be more than aware that stalking is a legal offense punishable by law.
"Can you please tell your boyfriend to leave me alone?" Seokmin pleads, removing the phone from Seungkwan's field of view and shutting it off without answering the message.
"He's not," Seungkwan starts pointedly, putting an accent on the negative, "My boyfriend. We broke up."
"Well, have you made him aware of that?"
"God knows I've tried."
"Wait," Jeonghan suddenly interjects, looking more interested now than when Seokmin was suicidal and laying on his desk, "You seriously broke up? Like, actually?"
Seungkwan's jaw opens and closes, as he fumbles over his words after wracking his brain for a response, shocked.
"I– Hello?" Seungkwan lamely asks no one in particular, "Hyung, I told you about this, like, weeks ago."
"I thought you were joking." Jeonghan says, shrugging.
Ah, of course. How could he have been so naive.
Seungkwan almost forgot that he's surrounded by awful, horrible people who think he fakes his suffering solely for their entertainment. He's glad Jeonghan is there to remind him of it.
"Why would I joke about that?" he asks, and speaks again, not letting Jeonghan answer, "Anyway, please don't respond to that text, Seokmin. I can't handle him right now,"
"And about your recording– don't worry. Hyung will deal with it," Seungkwan says, trying to console him, all senior-like, "When I listen to the recordings Jihoon and Yerim saved, I'll know what to do,"
Truthfully, he just can't stand talking about Mingyu anymore, and would rather deal with this instead.
"Maybe you just need some vocal rest, maybe we need to adjust the pitch," he continues, patting Seokmin's back consolingly, "You're a great singer, please don't kill yourself."
"You'd do that for me?" Seokmin says, perking up, obviously pleased. He was always so susceptible to cheering up, such a sweetheart. Probably the only pure-hearted person in Seungkwan's life right now.
"Of course, Seokmin-ah!" he replies enthusiastically, reaching his hand out to ruffle his hair lovingly, completely endeared.
What he doesn't mention is that he's technically, already contractually obligated to do all of that anyway. Monitoring PLEDIS artists' work and keeping in touch with the producers is literally one of his main obligations as a full-time employee. He'd still do it for Seokmin, though, job incentive or not.
"That's cute and all," Jeonghan starts, leaning back in his chair, "But you need to get out now. I have a meeting with Seungcheol in ten."
Seungkwan's hand stills on Seokmin's head, as he narrows his eyes at Jeonghan, "Just Seungcheol? Like, you'll be alone?"
"Oh, are you really the person to lecture me about a hypothetical workplace romance?" he bites back, rolling his eyes, "He's just coming over to discuss new dorm arrangements. Don't be weird."
"Wait– they're getting a new dorm? I've been begging for a new place for ages now!"
"Again, Seokmin-ah. I am not your manager."
"I wish you were," Seokmin sighs, sad, "Joohyun-noona doesn't like me."
"That is so not true!" Seungkwan says truthfully, "Joohyun loves you."
"I told noona I want to die and she said that giving therapeutic advice is above her pay-grade."
Jeonghan cackles, taking out his phone and tapping the screen awake to open his notes app, "I'm saving that for when Seungcheol complains to me about stupid shit too."
"Too?" Seokmin repeats, offended at the implication that his meltdown is anything but completely justified, "Excuse you, worrying about my vocal inadequacy is not stupid."
"Okay!" Seungkwan says, clapping his hands as he decides to interrupt the imminent bickering session that was about to begin.
"I'm leaving. You–" Seungkwan dramatically points a finger at Seokmin, "Don't die. And, you–" he turns, pointing the same finger, now at Jeonghan, his eyes narrowing, "Don't tell Mingyu where I'm going,"
"I can tell you want to. Please don't. I'll take you out for dinner."
Jeonghan gasps dramatically, delighted, "Seungkwan, you flirt. You're after the whole company now? Checking us off one by one?"
"I'm not even going to entertain this."
"Who's next, Joshua from corporate?"
Seungkwan is already at the door, waving Jeonghan off, "Bye. I hope Seungcheol asks for a duplex."
Jeonghan gasps for real this time, truly offended, "Oh, fuck you—"
The door is closed before Seungkwan can hear what other colorful expletives Jeonghan was about to use. Well, it couldn't have been anything mild, considering Seungkwan really hit the mark on that one.
Duplexes are a nightmare to find in Seoul.
He knows because, initially, Mingyu brought it up as an idea to the rest of HHU. Seungkwan told him it'll be impossible, tried to explain that the power of friendship can not get them an offer below thirty million won per square meter, but he was as persistent about it as he was about everything else.
Seemed fascinated by the idea that they'll have more room when Seungkwan comes over, hell, maybe even somehow move in when Wonwoo inevitably leaves at some point to finally live with Chan like they've always wanted.
That sentiment was also what got Seungkwan to start thinking about breaking up. The excited glint in Mingyu's eye as he talked about them living together, the carefree tone in which he spoke about how much fun they'd have.
How he nipped at the juncture of Seungkwan's neck and giggled gleefully as he described the domestic images in his brain in great detail, completely oblivious to the mess unraveling inside of Seungkwan's head. At the end of it, rests fear.
Seungkwan has always been scared of Mingyu, what their love entails. He was afraid when they got together, when they were dating, and even now that they've broken up. It's constant and overpowering.
Ugh! It's all that stupid duplex's fault.
Maybe Seungkwan would've stayed with Mingyu if it weren't for the ideas it gave him. Or, maybe it's Wonwoo's fault for wanting to move in with Chan! Yeah, what do they need to be with each other all the time for? They went to high school together, they work together and now they want to live with each other too?
Talk about greedy!
"Oh, Seungkwan-hyung!"
Seungkwan startles, suddenly snapped out of his thoughts, as he recognizes the voice as one belonging to Seungcheol, "Hi, Seungcheol-ah. Jeonghan is still talking to Seokmin, you'll have to wait for a bit."
Seungcheol shakes his head, smiling awkwardly, "Um, that's not why I'm here," he says, scratching the back of his head lamely, "I'm not supposed to tell you this, but Mingyu made me come early and check if you're in Jeonghan's office."
"Of course he did." Seungkwan says, expression flat, "Well, you can tell him I'm not. I'm going somewhere far, far away now."
"Are you going to Jihoon's studio?"
"Um," he starts eloquently, "No?" How convincing.
"Got it. I'll tell him you're definitely not there."
Swayed by the proud look on his face, Seungkwan decides to ignore his wording, and walks past him dejectedly.
"Thank you, Seungcheol-ah."
He is so going to tell him that Seungkwan is there. Snitch.
Well, he better move quickly, then. He has to meet Minghao later, so he might as well get everything done as soon as possible and prepare himself accordingly.
"Oh, wow," Seungkwan says after they finish listening through Seokmin's recordings, his arms crossed as he stands next to Jihoon, "That's– yeah. That's pretty bad."
"Maybe if Minghao-oppa was here, it would've gone better." Yerim chimes in mockingly, from where she's sulking on the couch, scrolling through her phone.
"Yerim," Jihoon starts, completely exasperated, "All I said was that I think you should've went in there and helped him with his warm ups, get him to relax."
Yerim drops her phone and stands up aggresively, ignoring Jihoon and stomping over to Seungkwan as she asks, "Did you know? Jihoon-oppa doesn't love me anymore,"
"He has a new favorite now."
"My mother made me an only child for a reason," Jihoon mutters so only Seungkwan can hear him, before continuing at full volume, "You, stop with the dramatics. Or I'll actually call Minghao over."
"Even if you did, he's got his hands full with Mingyu right now," Seungkwan starts, peeved as he moves away from Jihoon's soundboard, "Talking about God knows what,"
"I genuinely think there's something wrong with his head." he finishes quietly, mumbling to himself pensively.
Jihoon blinks. "Minghao's head is fine though?"
Seungkwan blinks back. "I'm not talking about Minghao, I'm talking about Mingyu. Are you okay?"
Yerim turns to Seungkwan dramatically, her eyes wild, "See what I'm talking about! He has serious case of tunnel vision."
Jihoon groans, taking his glasses off so he can rub his eyes, obviously frustrated, before he speaks, "Please stop. I just misunderstood."
He gathers himself, continuing, "Can't you just tell your boyfriend to leave Minghao alone? He has work later."
Seungkwan replies mechanically, "He's not my boyfriend."
A few beats of silence pass by as Jihoon, genuinely stunned, tries to search for something to say. Seungkwan is quite sure the news have already reached him a while ago, but Jihoon– just like everyone else– probably didn't believe it.
Because Seungkwan's life is a joke.
He can feel Yerim's eyes on him, as he's suddenly made aware of how close she has gotten within the past few seconds of quiet, her phone magically in her hands again, the notes app opened.
"Yerim-ah," Seungkwan inquires politely, "Can I help you?"
Her eyes practically glitter as she asks cutely, "Can you, in great detail, explain how you broke up and how it felt?"
How diligent. Seungkwan always thought Yerim was more suitable to be Jeonghan's underling rather than Jihoon's.
"That's sweet," he starts, slightly peeved, "But I'm afraid the story would be more fitting for a psychological horror movie than for a tragic love song, if that's what you're aiming for."
"Psychological horror? It's Mingyu." Jihoon states, confused, alluding to Mingyu's mellow nature. How cute. Seungkwan used to be that naive too.
As Seungkwan was about to bite back and explain the depth of Mingyu's disturbed mind, at that exact moment, a knock on the door cuts him off. Polite, quaint. Three carefully measured taps. Jihoon's and Yerim's eyes snap to the door, and then back to Seungkwan, like both of them are thinking the same thing.
Mingyu.
However, Seungkwan knows better, so he takes it upon himself to call out to the person waiting outside.
Sighing, he beckons, "Come in, Wonwoo-yah."
The door cracks open, enough for Wonwoo to stick his head in first to take a peek- probably to check if they're having a recording session- before opening it fully when he confirms that they aren't.
"Hi," he says casually, entering the room and closing the door behind him, "I'm not interrupting anything, right?"
He's donning his usual idol off-duty attire that consists of a black hoodie, black sweatpants, an equally black beanie and his regular pair of glasses.
Which are, for the record, also black. Shocking.
Jihoon and Yerim, still under the impression that Mingyu was at that door, turn to Seungkwan, looking at him questioningly. He can practically hear them in his head, asking him how he knew it wasn't that devil of an ex-boyfriend.
"Mingyu literally never knocks." Seungkwan says, like it's obvious.
A chorus of ohhh's erupts, as Jihoon and Yerim nod their head in half realization, half agreement. It's a phenomenon that only happens within the company walls. Mingyu is fully capable of knocking, for example, on bathroom stalls at coffee shops to check if they're empty.
Even at HHU's dorm, he always knocks politely before entering a member's room. In the company building, he practically barrels in without a second thought. One time, he knocked Hansol over, who was carelessly leaning on the door of the practice room, because he just bust the door wide open carelessly.
When he saw Hansol was splayed out, face down, obviously in pain, he simply asked him what he was doing, laying on the floor like that.
"Wait–" Seungkwan says suddenly, eyes widening, "Stop right there. Were you sent by Mingyu?"
Wonwoo, startled into stilling, raised his hands up in defense, "What? No?" he starts, "I'm here because I got bored of sitting around and waiting for Chan's meeting to end,"
"Who are you supposed to be, hyung– James Bond?" Wonwoo grumbles out, lowering his hands lamely, probably feeling ridiculous, "Why are you talking like that?"
"You have to understand, Wonwoo-yah. I can't trust anyone," he says, still in character, "Just tell me if he sent you here to check on me."
"He didn't!" Wonwoo says on a crazed laugh, incredulous, before he continues, brows furrowing.
"What makes you think I'd listen to him, anyway? If I wanted to come to a place where all people do is talk about Minghao 24/7, I would've stayed with Mingyu himself. I don't need Yerim for that." he adds offhandedly, lowering himself on the couch she was previously sat on.
"I knew it!" Yerim says from behind Jihoon, her hands on his shoulders, "I could so tell Mingyu had an issue with him! Right, Jihoon-oppa?"
"Yes, Yerim-ah. As brilliant as always." Jihoon says mechanically, his tone flat, in an attempt to appease her. It seems to work, if the way her cheeks bunch up as she proudly beams at him is any indication.
"What does Mingyu say about him?" Seungkwan finds himself inquiring, unwisely.
"Oh? Curious?" Wonwoo asks, smug, quirking a brow in interest.
When Wonwoo became so blatantly evil too, Seungkwan doesn't know. But he's sure that it's all Chan's fault– he's always been a horrible influence. He's sure Wonwoo was polite before the two of them met in high school, if such a thing as before even exists.
"Yes." Seungkwan answers, through gritted teeth. He can tell Yerim and Jihoon are all ears as well, he's surrounded by awful noisy people.
"Honestly, saying he talks about Minghao-hyung is kind of wrong," Wonwoo starts, contemplating his next words, "It's more like, he asks about him a lot,"
"Like, what we think about him. If we think he's cool, if we enjoy his music. Now that I think about it, he hasn't really divulged his opinion on Minghao, he just asks us about ours," there's a brief pause, before he adds, "It's kind of ominous."
"One time, he walked in my room when I was–" he tries, before stopping abruptly, "Um– in bed, with Chan. And just asked us if we think Minghao is cooler than him."
"He didn't even wait for us to like, reply, or anything. He just stood there, looking kind of sad, and left after a bit."
Everyone is stunned into silence, as Wonwoo finishes his brief recollection.
"Seungkwan. You might be right," Jihoon says suddenly, nodding in agreement, "There's definitely something wrong with his head."
Seungkwan is too mortified, and embarrassed out of his mind to reply, or process this information normally.
"I mean, I think it's kind of cute?" Yerim says, interrupting his train of thought and looking like she's seeing something they aren't, smiling as she elaborates, "Oppa is obviously scoping out his competition. Maybe he wants to try winning you back!"
She turns to Seungkwan swiftly, eyes expectant, as she waits for him to say something.
"I mean– I guess." Seungkwan says, suddenly feeling pressured. Since when was Yerim the leader of Mingyu's defense squad?
She nods, and– not so subtly– takes out her phone again, the cursed notes app still open, revealing her true motivation behind this stunt as she looks at him pensively.
"How would you say that makes you feel? In more than three, but less than five sentences?"
Jihoon blinks. "So, four?"
"Yerim-ah, please. If you want material for a love song, Wonwoo is literally right there." Seungkwan says, trying for polite. He's not averse to begging, at this point.
He came here to run away from Mingyu, for God's sake! Not to write a song about him!
Yerim eyes Wonwoo, far from compelled. "Eh. Highschool sweethearts are an overplayed trope," she says, waving Seungkwan off, "Obsessed, possessive ex-boyfriends are trendy right now. The crazier the better, really."
Great. Apparently, Seungkwan is in love with a person that is considered mentally unsound by societal standards.
This can't be his life.
He broke up with Mingyu so he could move on from him, but it seems that his ghost follows him around no matter what he does. He's also trying to connect with Minghao to, again, move on from Mingyu, but somehow it's just making Mingyu a more permanent presence in his life than he was before, when they were literally dating.
Seungkwan is pretty sure he heard his name mentioned less when they were together.
"Can we get back to what we were doing before, please?" Seungkwan pleads, trying to soothe the throbbing in his head by rubbing his temples, "I promised Seokmin I'd help him."
"Hear me out," Jihoon says, suddenly cooperative, glancing at the clock before he continues, "I don't have much time for this right now, Hansol wants to pitch me something in fifteen,"
"You can come over tomorrow morning, and we'll see what we can do with Seokmin then," he says, before shooting him a stern look, "I promise you Yerim won't make you relive your breakup for the sake of her lyrics too."
"We'll see about that." she says, tipping her nose up.
"I'll use Minghao's vocals for the next demo instead of yours."
Yerim gasps, her hands flying over her mouth, scandalized, "You wouldn't."
"Try me."
After a few beats of silence, and one intense stare-down later, Yerim folds under the pressure of Jihoon's authoritative gaze, and huffs.
"Fine!" she says, stomping her feet, "I'm going to the cafeteria. I hate both of you."
Yerim forces a startled Wonwoo to stand up, dragging him by the hand towards the door as she leaves, "You're coming with me and you can't say no. You have to tell me all about your stupid, boring, normal relationship."
Before she exits, ignoring Wonwoo's protests, she glares at Seungkwan once last time and sticks her tongue out, "I hope Mingyu lies and tells Minghao-oppa you two are still together."
Seungkwan flinches as she slams the door shut, leaving him and Jihoon in perpetual silence. Well, he deserves that one, Seungkwan guesses. No one should have to sit through hearing Wonwoo talk about Chan, it's traumatizing.
"I should've given her to Jeonghan." Jihoon says, groaning, breaking the quiet.
Seungkwan nods, "You really should've. She'd make a great evil person."
After bidding Jihoon farewell, and pointedly avoiding the enemy-infested cafeteria, Seungkwan makes his way towards the fourth floor, where he promised to wait for Minghao and lead him to his current favorite office to work in.
He looks at his reflection in the metallic door, trying to straighten out his appearance, as he waits for the elevator to reach its destination. With a shrill ding, it signals that he's arrived, the doors opening on cue.
The second he steps out, he's face to face with Joohyun, Seokmin's manager.
"Oh, noona! Hi!" he says, delighted.
Seungkwan always loved Joohyun, she was a brilliant manager and a good friend of his. Always sent him over Seokmin's schedule in advance, so he could decide which time-slots work for his vocal coaching sessions best.
"Hi, Seungkwan-ah," she says, the fatigue in her voice apparent, "I was just at Jeonghan's office. Seungcheol actually asked for a duplex, and Seokmin caught wind of it, so now he wants one too,"
"I don't know how many times I have to explain to him that it's unreasonable for one person to live in a duplex," she says, brushing her hair back, "Whenever I bring it up he just says I could move in with him."
"Wow, noona. That sounds tough." he says, genuinely sympathetic. When Seokmin wants something, he wants it bad.
"Yeah, enough about that though," she waves Seungkwan's worries away, her gaze filled with mirth, "Minghao is around the corner, told me he's waiting for a certain Seungkwannie,"
"Now, go on! Don't keep him waiting!" she says through a squeal, excited, "My baby, liking a guy who's normal. I never thought I'd see the day."
Seungkwan isn't quite sure he'd use that word to describe Minghao anymore, but he'd rather not rain on her parade.
Noona likes Minghao a lot. Maybe more than she should, considering she's engaged. Ever since he came from China she insisted that he's the one for Seungkwan. Joohyun is really the one who put the idea of trying something in his head, in the first place.
He's pretty sure she was just desperate for him to move on from Mingyu, but he's just as desperate for that to happen, so ultimately, they're on the same page.
"Thank you for telling me, noona. I'll go see him now!" he says, purposely ignoring the second thing she said. There's a part of him that wants to defend Mingyu, and he can't deal with that right now.
They bid their farewells to each other, and he swiftly rounds the corner only to be greeted with the image of Minghao standing in front of the room Seungkwan wanted to show him.
"Hyung! Hi!" he greets, unable to resist calling out to him from a distance. He really does like Minghao, romantically or not.
Minghao looks up from his phone, unbelievably beautiful as he smiles warmly at the sight of Seungkwan rushing to him, "Hi, Kwannie. I guess you bumped into Joohyun?"
"Yeah! I just saw her at the elevator, I was coming up here to wait for you, actually. I finished everything earlier."
"Mm," he hums, delighted, "How lovely. You were that excited?"
Seungkwan beams, nodding, "Yes! This room is, like, the best," he walks past Minghao to reach for the keypad and unlock the door, the excitement pouring out of him as he speaks, "They let me decorate it however I want, since it used to be a normal office for management before they changed floors."
The door clicks open, as Seungkwan continues, quickly shifting his gaze to the corner of the room where the coat hanger is and hanging his bag on it neatly.
"All these instruments were my idea! I thought that being surrounded by music would help inspire people, or something," he says ineloquently, rummaging through his bag to grab his notebook as he hears Minghao enter the room after him.
"The soundproof padding was kind of a pain to get, but–"
"Oh," Minghao exclaims, "Mingyu-yah."
Seungkwan freezes, stopping mid sentence.
What? There is no way. He must be hearing things.
He slowly turns around, and true to Minghao's words, nestled in the corner of the room, he spots none other than Kim Mingyu. There's no mistake.
He blinks once, twice, to no avail. He's not dreaming and this isn't a nightmare. Mingyu is leisurely sitting in the spot Seungkwan usually sits in when he's working with people, casually spinning in half-circles on the wheeled office chair. How did he even get in?!
He lazily shifts his gaze to Minghao's, and speaks.
"Hi, Minghao-hyung," he says innocently, but his eyes tell a different story as he continues through a crooked smile, "Isn't it weird how we keep bumping into each other?"
"Yeah, it really is." Minghao says, that same amused expression that he donned when he first watched Mingyu and Seungkwan talk at the elevator on his face.
Seungkwan can feel his blood turning cold. He is going to kill himself. He understands Seokmin now. Maybe they should do it together.
"Mingyu," Seungkwan calls, shifting Mingyu's attention from his stare-down with Minghao back to him, "What are you doing here?"
He's trying for calm, slightly surprised, and he definitely doesn't startle when Mingyu's gaze softens upon crossing ways with his own.
"I'm here for my vocal lessons."
"You're a rapper." he shoots back, immediately.
Mingyu quirks a brow in question, "Can't I, as an idol, work on broadening my horizons?"
"It's not in your schedule."
"I'd recommend you check it again."
Seungkwan takes his phone out, does a suspicious double-take in Mingyu's direction- slightly swayed by his confidence- and enters his calendar app.
His gaze drifts over the date, then the day, until it eventually stops at what used to be the empty time slot in question. Now, there's a schedule added in, that Seungkwan distinctly doesn't remember seeing before, in bold red letters, size sixteen font.
KMG vc session w/ v coach BSK ;P
The ugly color, the horribly unprofessional abbreviations, all topped with the crude winking emoji. If Seungkwan went into document details, he's sure it'd tell him that the last edit was made five minutes ago, when a certain somebody was set to clock out of work.
Only one name comes to mind. Yoon Jeonghan.
To think he'd actually side with the devil and betray Seungkwan like this. He narrows his eyes at the calendar, muttering to himself, as he curses every higher forces that were at play the moment they met.
Why couldn't SM take Jeonghan instead?
Minghao approaches Seungkwan, taking a peek at his calendar and quirking an eyebrow, still unbelievably amused. He chuckles, shaking his head and putting one hand on Seungkwan's shoulder.
"Kwannie. How about we do this some other time?" he says calmly, rubbing his hand up and down his back soothingly, probably by now figuring out the unfortunate situation Seungkwan has found himself in.
"Hyung… I really didn't know…" Seungkwan says, defeated.
Minghao gives him a smile, and just like that, leaves the two of them alone, adding that he'll text Seungkwan when he's done with work before he shuts the door. It's silent for a few seconds, until Seungkwan talks.
"You are the worst. I mean it, Mingyu." he says, feeling a storm starting to brew in his chest. He is just so, so tired.
Tired of how quickly his heart is beating now that they're alone, of how closer he wants to be to Mingyu, the distance between them becoming increasingly unbearable now that it's finally just the two of them.
"Baby, come on. Don't be like that."
"Baby?!" Seungkwan repeats, unable to help himself as he yells, in complete disbelief, "You don't get to call me that anymore, Mingyu! Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?!"
"You come in here– and– and you act like this," he says, motioning with his hands, increasingly furious, "In front of someone I work with, no less! And you expect me to be fine with it?!"
"Seungkwan–" Mingyu tries, getting up, his tone laced with a sense of urgency. He's probably affected by the frustration bleeding into Seungkwan's voice, as he hastily tries to explain himself.
"Don't Seungkwan me!" he stops him, getting closer to Mingyu and pointing a finger at his chest, feeling tears well up on his waterline, his voice getting quieter as he continues, overwhelmed by their proximity.
"You're so stupid, useless-" he says, jabbing the finger into Mingyu's chest relentlessly, unable to get a word out, his voice shaky, "I'm so tired, Mingyu. I'm so, so exhausted by this. Why can't you just let me go?"
"Do you know how hard I've been trying to move on? How–" he tries, choking on a gasp when Mingyu takes the hand Seungkwan has been hitting him with, raising it up to his mouth, and kissing it tenderly while Seungkwan watches.
"I know," he speaks, tone sincere, before giving his index finger a kiss, and praises, "You've been working hard." Another chaste press of lips along his knuckles, a few peppered kisses across his fingertips.
They stand like that in silence for a bit, as Seungkwan comes down from his interrupted emotional high, only the sound of Mingyu's lips working over his skin echoing throughout the room. There are a few tears still streaking his cheeks, and he can tell he has splotches all over his face from how much he yelled.
Suddenly, Mingyu drops Seungkwan's hand and turns around to sit on the small couch, across from the chair he was sat on previously. Seungkwan hates to admit it, but he felt a pang of sadness the second Mingyu moved away so intense, it made his chest hurt.
If only Mingyu knew how much Seungkwan has missed him, how much effort he's made to keep his emotions in check. In reality, it's impossible. Loving Mingyu, reacting to his presence, it's etched into his very being. He can't go a day without the high that comes with being in his proximity, how he's managed to go on for so long baffles him.
Mingyu sits on the couch, making himself comfortable, before he pats his lap, signaling Seungkwan to sit on it. There's a soft, loving glint in his eye, as he waits for Seungkwan to obey. Soon enough, a wicked smile breaks through the tenderness, as he lewdly widens his thighs to make more room for Seungkwan.
Well.
Seungkwan leans on one leg, and then the other, awkward as he thinks it over in his head. What's the appropriate speed for walking over and sitting on your ex boyfriend's lap? He's not sure what qualifies as too quick, or too slow.
He decides on quick and hasty, in the end, when he catches a flash of Mingyu's canines, suddenly deciding that having them back on his skin is more important than the dignity he's working so hard to uphold.
He settles into his lap, and the gratification is instantaneous. Mingyu's big, calloused hands are on his hips, immediately reaching underneath his sweater to paw on the naked skin of his hips.
Seungkwan shudders, the treatment rougher than he's used to, but it feels good nonetheless. Feels like Mingyu missed him as much as he missed Mingyu.
"Ugh. I hate you," he says, through a sigh, closing his eyes as Mingyu's grip on his hips tightens, "You're so big and stupid."
"Well, we can't have that now, can we?" Mingyu smiles, and bites on Seungkwan's jaw playfully, their faces awfully close.
It kind of stings, because Mingyu bit the soft skin sharply on purpose, so Seungkwan pouts, dissatisfied, as he exclaims, "Ow."
"Oh, my poor hyung," Mingyu coos condescendingly, "I bully you so much."
"I'll make it up to you, baby," he continues, his hands roaming across Seungkwan's back, his touch turning scalding, forcing a shudder to wrack through Seungkwan's body, "Tell me, what do you want?"
Seungkwan blinks a few times, trying to chase the haze away, as he thinks. What does he want?
The truth is, Seungkwan has always been greedy. Ever since the first time he got Mingyu's attention, he's wanted it for himself. The obsession, the possessive looks he'd send Seungkwan's way. How Mingyu would act in front of him, how he'd try to woo him.
So young, so sweet. Seungkwan wanted Mingyu for himself. Wants Mingyu, for himself. Only.
Wants the stupid duplex, wants the domesticity. Wants the post-work, last second dinners, wants the thirteen 4AM alarms Mingyu sets because one is never enough for him to wake up.
The cuddling, the kissing, the sex. He wants it all. Anything Mingyu can give, Seungkwan wants.
Needs.
His friends say Mingyu is obsessed, and possessive, but that's only because they haven't taken a peek into Seungkwan's brain.
"I want you to fuck me," he says, breathlessly, "Here, now. Show me you want me."
He can't say it. Can't say that he wants everything, anything, as long as it's with Mingyu. His mouth forms around the words, but he can't. So he will say whatever he can, to get Mingyu as close as possible.
"Baby," Mingyu coos again, "I don't have lube, or condoms."
"But– you–" Seungkwan tries, frenzied, his hands flying up to Mingyu's chest, eyes round as he leans in, "You could do the tip, yeah? Just the tip? It won't hurt, it-"
Seungkwan is practically panting, wracking his brain for possibilities. He could make Mingyu go and get some, Seungkwan knows he would listen. But, he's not sure he can handle being apart for him even for a second right now.
God, he needs it, desperately. He's been holding himself back, trying to be polite, trying so hard to suffocate the voice inside of himself telling him that he deserves to be happy, deserves to love Mingyu, unburdened by his incessant worries.
Mingyu, instantly noticing the shift in Seungkwan's behavior, tries for a soothing inflection, as he speaks, "Hyung, relax. I have you,"
"Just let me take care of you, yeah?" he mutters, lips close to Seungkwan's ear, before he licks around the lobe.
Seungkwan shudders, nodding, as he melts into Mingyu's lap. As long as he's close, Seungkwan doesn't care. He trails kisses down his neck, nipping on the smooth skin, leaving marks as he goes. He laps at the divot of Seungkwan's collarbones, before pressing wet kisses there too.
The way he's handling Seungkwan reminds him of a time before his anxieties and worries rose up to the surface.
The contact is calming more than it's charged. He's really trying to help Seungkwan relax, and it's working. The way he's peppering kisses over his skin, how his harsh grip turned into something mellow, nostalgic, touches reminiscent of the lazy mornings they'd spend together before reluctantly parting.
Usually, Mingyu be the one who folded first. He was always hasty, always rushing to prove himself to Seungkwan. Would press clumsy kisses against Seungkwan's lips because he couldn't resist, would desperately need Seungkwan's guidance, his sturdy hand. For him to tell Mingyu that he's good, that he's Seungkwan's. Similarly, after music show's with no wins, after practices spent hiding a limp, he found solace in Seungkwan's embrace.
Then, as time went on, Seungkwan realized that all the time he spent tending to MIngyu's wounds made his own fester.
In the end, overwhelmed by emotions and the nostalgia surrounding him, Seungkwan is the one who goes in for this kiss first, unable to stop himself. He leans in carefully, and presses his lips gently against Mingyu's.
They stay like that for a second, before Seungkwan leans back and blinks, feeling his cheeks heat up once again. He feels silly for a second, averting his eyes shyly, about to apologize for a reason he's not even sure of. Before he can say anything, Mingyu's hand is on hiss jaw, leading Seungkwan's mouth to his own roughly.
This time, the kiss floods Seungkwan's veins with liquid fire.
Mingyu's lips are incessant as he licks into Seungkwan's pliant mouth, unable to stay quiet as he groans. Subconscously, Seungkwan threads his fingers through Mingyu's hair, scratching his fingernails against his scalp, just the way he knows Mingyu likes it.
He holds Seungkwan's head still by gripping his jaw, his other hand resting on the slope of his neck. Seungkwan feels borderline consumed by Mingyu, the intensity of his kisses turning the world around him hazy.
He can only focus on the way Mingyu's lips feel, how he sighs against his mouth hotly, how full his chest feels between Seungkwan's open palms when he lowers them from his hair.
"God, Seungkwan," Mingyu speaks as he lowers his head to press hot, wet kisses down his neck, "You drive me crazy."
Seungkwan is getting lightheaded, his senses completely overtaken by Mingyu's large hands, his deep voice, the scent of his cologne. He's slowly receding, the sentences leaving Mingyu's mouth sounding like they're coming from further and further away.
"You ask me to fuck you," he says crudely, on a crazed laugh, "And then you kiss me like that, all shy,"
"Hyung, do you know?" he continues, nuzzling into Seungkwan's neck cruelly, his eyes closed as he sniffs the area where Seungkwan's perfume is most potent, like a dog, moaning on an exhale. The action is so depraved, it has Seungkwan's head spinning.
"Everyone knows I'm in here with you, I made sure of it," he says, tipping his head back from his throat– but staying close– tracing his fingertips along Seungkwan's flushed cheekbones, relishing in how they turn warmer the longer he speaks, "Everyone you talked to today– especially Minghao- they all know you're here, alone with me."
A beat of silence passes, Mingyu's fingers stopping their venture, as he smiles, mean, like he thought of something.
"Think hyung is standing outside, listening to you moan like that?"
At that, Seungkwan shudders, subconsciously leaning closer to Mingyu's shoulder, until he comes close enough to rest his head on it, trying to grant himself some reprieve.
However, Mingyu doesn't let him relax, as he puts his hands back under his shirt, on the slope of his waist, his fingers digging into the flesh possessively.
"I hope he is," he starts, voice morbidly wistful, "I hope he can hear what I do to you," Seungkwan can't see him, but from how his grip tightens, he can tell Mingyu is getting excited.
"Hope he knows he'll never get to have you like this, as long as I'm alive."
Seungkwan gasps, as Mingyu's hands travel lower, stopping at his ass, where he squeezes roughly, the action emphasizing his statement.
"So pretty, so sweet," he murmurs, his hands climbing back up, steady on Seungkwan's back as he suddenly picks him up and drops him on the couch next to him. The rough way he handles him paired with the sweet way in which he addresses him makes Seungkwan's head spin.
Next thing Seungkwan knows, he's laying down, his head settled comfortably on the couch cushion, a ravenous looking Mingyu looming over him.
"Just for me." Mingyu finishes, caging Seungkwan as he lowers himself onto his forearms, dangerously close.
"Right, hyung? Say you're mine."
Seungkwan licks his dry lips, and clears his throat, in an attempt to regain some control over his motor functions, and tries to speak.
"I'm– I," he fumbles over his words, suddenly shy under the scrutiny of Mingyu's stormy gaze, the contrast from his actions and words giving him serious whiplash.
He thinks it, and he knows it, even under the haze of arousal. He is Mingyu's, and Mingyu is his. But for some reason, he can't say it. Saying it makes it real, tangible.
Possession, hand in hand with the love flooding his chest, is not something he could ever take back. Seungkwan doesn't know if he's ready for that kind of confession, that kind of vulnerability.
He huffs, suddenly feeling frustrated. Whether by himself or by Mingyu's insistence, he doesn't know. He glares at Mingyu, and tries to change the subject.
"Can you– can you just fuck me already?"
A beat of silence passes between them as Mingyu's gaze suddenly turns cold, as he sighs, hanging his head in disappointment.
"No."
Seungkwan blinks, the haze overtaking his vision making it difficult for him to react. No?
Mingyu gets up from the couch entirely, stretching as he stands up, groaning when he hears his joints pop. He walks away casually, fixing his rumpled clothes all the while. He pads over to the small mirror Seungkwan set up by his table, bending down slightly to look at himself in it.
He's fussing over his hair, huffing when he fails at taming the strands, but not giving up as Seungkwan watches him in shock, stunned into silence.
"What," he asks finally, his voice shaky, "What are you doing?"
"What does it look like?" Mingyu says, still fixing his bangs, not sparing Seungkwan a glance, "I'm leaving."
Seungkwan suddenly feels small, anxious. The same urgency he felt before returns tenfold, his breathing turning shallow.
"But why?" He can't recognize the tone of his voice anymore, the airy quality of it, the uncertainty.
"Because I don't know if you want this, Seungkwan," Mingyu says truthfully, "You break up with me, and then you let me fuck you. You tell me it's over, and then Seulgi-noona tells me you've been asking about me,"
"Seriously, what do you expect me to do? What do you want from me?" he asks sadly, frustration bleeding into his words, "You might have me on a leash hyung, but I can't keep doing this. Even I have my limits."
Mingyu was always so much more well-spoken than Seungkwan. Never danced around what he wanted to say, never held things back. Seungkwan should've expected this, should've thought of something to say in advance. Will he really gamble this moment away? Or will he speak the entire truth for the first time?
His brain is working overtime as he tries to think, but his attention is entirely focused on how close Mingyu is to the door, to leaving, to finally doing the one thing Seungkwan has wanted him to do, but couldn't bring himself to be at peace with no matter how much he tried persuading himself that it's the right course of action.
Moving on.
"Mingyu, please–"
"Please what, Seungkwan?"
No matter how he looks at it, he owes this to Mingyu.
"Just come here!" Seungkwan says, voice cracking as the first tear rolls down, "Just– please. Please come here. Get away from the door. I can't,"
"I can't be without you," he confesses finally, now fully crying, "I don't– I don't know how. You keep asking me what I want,"
"I just want you. You're all I've ever wanted," he says through a sob, shoulders shaking as he lowers his gaze, "But it's hard, Mingyu. It's so hard for me to say it,"
"You're–" he hiccups, "You're it. Not just to me, but to so many people, and it stresses me out so much, how those people could react if they found out," at this point, he's rambling, but the release feels so good he can't stop.
He takes a breath and wipes his tears, before continuing, "I know I've already said this to you, but–"
"Lay back down."
Mingyu's command startles Seungkwan, as he lifts his head up slowly, shocked to see how close Mingyu has gotten during his outburst.
"But I didn't–"
"I said," Mingyu says, pushing at Seungkwan's shoulders gently, "Lay back down."
Seungkwan obeys, his body trembling as he lowers himself back down. Mingyu sits down on the edge of the couch, next to Seungkwan's waist, as he takes his hand and rubs gentle circles on his knuckles.
"I didn't ask you why you wanted to end things," Mingyu says, sighing, "You always expanded so much on that, every time we broke up. I get it."
"I asked you what you wanted, hyung," Mingyu says pointedly, stopping the soothing ministrations, as he looks at Seungkwan tenderly, "And you said me,"
"Not that you want to break up, or that you want things to end. You said you want me. Right now, that's all that matters," he says, raising his hand and brushing some of Seungkwan's hair out of his face.
"That's all I wanted to hear." Mingyu finishes, his voice low.
Seungkwan feels kind of stupid. Luckily he's calmed down, just slightly shaken up by the post-cry hiccupping he can't seem to stop. His cheeks are definitely splotchy, so he probably looks a bit funny, but Mingyu doesn't look like he's anything except unbelievably endeared.
It all sounds so simple when Mingyu says it. He wants to protest, but he's scared he'll end up sounding like a conspiracy theorist again. It's obviously something that doesn't bother Mingyu, so maybe he should just lay back down and—
"So, lay back down, and let your young, tight-bodied boyfriend do all the work, yeah?" Mingyu adds cheekily, interrupting Seungkwan's train of thought and topping his question off with a wink.
—do, well, that.
Seungkwan chokes on a chuckle, once more startled by the sudden change in tone, as Mingyu climbs back over his body to press a sweet kiss on his forehead. They're in the same position that they were in before Mingyu stood up theatrically, except this time, Mingyu is kissing his eyelids, licking at the salty tear tracks. It's disgusting, and dirty, but Seungkwan finds he kind of likes it. It feels like a puppy is licking his face.
"God. What is wrong with you?" he asks anyway, acting scandalized practically a reflex at this point. He knows Mingyu likes it too, how he pretends to be innocent, so he tops it off with a pout.
"I told you already," he says lovingly, lowering his head and placing enticing kisses below his jaw as he mumbles into his throat, "You drive me crazy."
"This can't all be me…" Seungkwan murmurs woefully, alluding to his depraved behavior.
"Oh, but it is," Mingyu shoots back, nipping at his collarbone sharply, over the marks he already left, "You made me this way, hyung,"
"It's all your fault," Mingyu continues in faux innocence, nuzzling against Seungkwan's jaw, "You should fix it."
Evil. Just an awful, impolite puppy.
Seungkwan rolls his eyes before asking, wound up, "What could I even do? I'm pretty sure you're–"
"Let me fuck your thighs."
Seungkwan blinks. What?
Realizing he only used his inside voices, he repeats, out loud, "What?"
"C'mon," Mingyu whines impatiently, kicking his feet out, "It'll be fun."
"… Here?" he asks, eyeing the inadequately equipped room distastefully.
"What do you mean, here?" Mingyu repeats, mocking him, "The location wasn't a problem before, when you asked me to fuck you."
"I said just the tip…" he mumbles, shy.
Mingyu chuckles, shaking his head, "Funny. You know I'd have you bent over in half, by the end."
Seungkwan would never admit it out loud, but he really likes the way Mingyu speaks when it's just the two of them. So vulgar and filthy. And Mingyu can always tell just how much he enjoys it, like he can smell the smoke emitted by the flame he lit in the depths of Seungkwan's gut.
Before Mingyu can say something else, Seungkwan nods his head bashfully, "Okay…"
"What was that?" Mingyu asks, tilting his ear towards Seungkwan meanly.
"I–" Seungkwan starts, narrowing his eyes, "You're mean. I said okay, you can do it."
"Do what, hyung?"
"Mingyu…" Seungkwan groans, feeling his gut stir once more at the low, teasing quality his voice suddenly took. What a brat.
"Say it, hyung," Mingyu urges, always happy whenever he gets to debauch Seungkwan, "C'mon. I wanna hear you say it."
Seungkwan glares at him, once more, and most likely fails at looking annoyed because of all the squirming he's doing, mortified as he finally mumbles out, "…Fuck my thighs."
Mingyu practically drools as Seungkwan gets the words out, immediately getting to work giddily. He reaches down unceremoniously and pushes their pants down to their knees, along with their underwear, getting them both naked at record speed.
He doesn't know how, or when, but somewhere in-between being mean to Seungkwan and making him say unmannerly things, Mingyu got horrifyingly hard.
Truth be told, Seungkwan isn't faring any better himself, but he's forgotten how impressive Mingyu's girth and length are up-close. Thankfully, that's not going in him right now, he must've been insane when he thought he was ready to fuck without lube. They should study the effect Mingyu has on him in a lab.
"Fuck," Mingyu cusses when he sees Seungkwan's dick, obviously affected, "So pretty. Missed this so much."
"Shirt– Take," Seungkwan tries, breathless, his cock giving a pathetic kick at the attention, "Off. Ah, just take your stupid shirt off."
Mingyu obeys, straightening himself up and quickly takes the article of clothing off.
Seungkwan blinks and he's faced with the image of Mingyu's lithe body, his supple, honey skin. Skin and fat layering on top of hard-earned muscle, a product of his hard work. Seungkwan always really, really liked the way Mingyu looked.
How Mingyu towered over him, how he could easily wrap his entire hand around his wrist. Liked how he could throw Seungkwan around, how Mingyu could manhandle him however he wanted.
Loved how Mingyu held him down when they fucked and he got too fussy, too squirmy. Mingyu is breathing hard now, panting like a dog, gaze intimidating as he watches Seungkwan writhe below him.
He slowly comes back down, almost predatory in the way he moves, and racks up Seungkwan's shirt all the way to his neck, revealing his stomach and chest. He licks his lips, as he presses his fingers into Seungkwan's waist, testing the give.
Watches the way his fingers press into the skin, the intensity of his scalding stare forcing a bolt of ice-hot pleasure through Seungkwan's bloodstream. Seungkwan whines prettily as Mingyu keeps fondling him, almost methodically as he licks his lips, transfixed by Seungkwan's responsive body. His fingers trail up to Seungkwan's chest, squeezing at his pecks, the mass barely anything under Mingyu's palms.
Mingyu bends down further, replacing his hands with his mouth. He scatters a few light, barely there kisses first. On his nipples, on the soft flesh surrounding them. Trails his tongue down Seungkwan's sternum, Mingyu's demeanor shifting as his ministrations become more hurried, more desperate.
"Ah– Mingyu–" Seungkwan moans, unable to stop himself from squirming under his wicked tongue.
Mingyu climbs back up, pulling Seungkwan's shirt up even more to prevent it from falling down, and motions for him to hold it wordlessly. Seungkwan gets the message quickly, racking the shirt up and holding it up to his neck with his hands, grip shaky.
Mingyu gets to work, then. Sucks sloppy hickeys into Seungkwan's skin, bites at the flesh, all previous softness replaced with something depraved, perverted. A carnal need to consume Seungkwan, to have him in his entirety, fueled by his confession.
He sucks Seungkwan's sensitive nipple into his mouth, licking and sucking, teasing the bud before repeating the same with the other. Seungkwan is a trembling mess, his back arching in an attempt to push his chest as close to Mingyu as possible, relishing in how wholly desired he feels.
Mingyu plays with him like that for a few more minutes, until Seungkwan's moans turn into hiccups and all he can do is play with Mingyu's hair with one hand, the other still holding his shirt up. Faintly, he thinks, through a haze, how he's going to come and Mingyu hasn't even done anything yet. How embarrassing.
"M–Mingyu," he tries, voice unrecognizable even to himself, "Please."
Mingyu harshly worries another hickey right next to Seungkwan's nipple, before licking over it in an attempt to soothe the sting. He lowers the hand Seungkwan has in his hair and noses into it, humming in question.
"I'll get to it baby," he says, "Sorry. My poor Seungkwannie."
Seungkwan manages an annoyed huff, although endeared as Mingyu peppers kisses along his palm in apology. Suddenly, Mingyu shifts, and picks Seungkwan up to rearrange him the way he wants to. He drops him back down in a similar position, except his body is slightly elevated by the cushion Mingyu positioned to serve as support under his lower back.
Seungkwan, embarrassed, reprimands him meekly, "You didn't have to pick me up to put a pillow under me… Brute…"
"Mm," Mingyu hums, assessing his state, and takes Seungkwan's pants completely off, "Thought you liked it when I threw you around like that."
Seungkwan pouts, narrowing his eyes at Mingyu, "You're so embarrassing."
"Yeah, yeah, I'm the worst," Mingyu responds offhandedly, his focus directed somewhere else, as he kneels on the couch, "Tighten your thighs so I can fuck 'em, c'mon."
Seungkwan whines, affected by the filth leaving his mouth, as he shyly obeys, dropping his shirt from his hands in an attempt to use them and cover his face from Mingyu, embarrassed by his own eagerness to listen.
Seungkwan is surprised by his own vulnerability right now, by how sensitive he is to the way Mingyu's skin feels against his, how flustered he is by the way his eyes seem to track and relish the ripple of Seungkwan's muscle underneath his palms.
It's not foreign, or unfamiliar, but it still feels different. Seungkwan doesn't know what any of it means. He doesn't know what comes next, and it's slowly tilting his word off its axis.
"Seungkwan, baby," Mingyu coos, "None of that. Don't cover your face, I can hear how loud you're thinking."
He takes Seungkwan's hands off of his face, his other one holding both of Seungkwan's thighs against his torso. He ducks his head down slightly to place a kiss on one knee, and murmurs against it.
"Just relax now, okay?" he says, raising his hand up and down Seungkwan's legs tenderly as he chuckles, "I'm clearly not doing a good enough job if you're still this fussy."
He leans back a bit, spitting on his hand crudely and wrapping it around his swelling cock, giving it a few strokes to coat it appropriately. He repeats the motion a few times, and then spreads Seungkwan's trembling thighs, bending down and spitting just as crudely on his dick.
Seungkwan moans unabashedly at the filthy image, at the way Mingyu's hips subconsciously buck forward at the sight of his spread legs, the feeling of spit landing on his sensitive cockhead. Mingyu's shoulders move as he breathes roughly, twisting Seungkwan's lower body so his closed legs are a bit to the side, both bent over his bicep.
"So pretty," he mutters, tone rough as he towers over Seungkwan, "Fuck. I missed you so bad."
He leans down, bending Seungkwan in half obscenely, slipping his dick between his thighs after what seems like forever. Mingyu groans at the feeling of being squeezed between Seungkwan's plush thighs, the delicate skin turning pink from how roughly Mingyu has been handling him.
Seungkwan squeals at the foreign feeling of Mingyu's dick on top of his own, the way he slowly grinds against his cock forcing his eyes roll to the back of his head.
"My Seungkwannie," Mingyu coos, eyes hazy as he bites at the skin of Seungkwan's calves, peppering kisses as he fucks into his thighs leisurely, "Wanna have you like this all the time. Can I?"
"Tell me I can, say you're mine," he says, frenzied, resting way too much of his body weight onto Seungkwan, "Please, baby, say it."
At this point, Mingyu is fully gone as he chases after his release, rattling Seungkwan's body as he fucks him with reckless abandon. The way he's gripping onto his skin, the way he's practically dragging Seungkwan's body onto his dick, it's all too much for Seungkwan.
The sensation of Mingyu's cock rubbing against his own, the feeling of being at his mercy, it's so overwhelming he shakes with it. Seungkwan missed him so much, missed this.
"Mi– Ah, puppy," Seungkwan tries through a moan, "Slow down, it's so–"
Mingyu falters slightly at the nickname, whining high in his throat, hips stuttering in a way that has Seungkwan reeling, "Say that again, c'mon,"
"Puppy," Seungkwan moans out, breathless as he continues, "My handsome puppy, so good for hyung, I'm yours, only y–"
Mingyu's eyes practically roll to the back of his head, in a way that has Seungkwan thinking he might pass out as he spills onto Seungkwan's stomach, his abdomen muscles clenching deliciously.
Mingyu is breathing hard, shaking as he recovers from his high, his dick kicking weakly as it spurts out the last of his release. Seungkwan blinks, trying to clear the haze from his eyes, as he stares at the mess on his stomach, transfixed.
Before he can come to his senses, Mingyu spreads his thighs once again, lowering his body down until he can reach Seungkwan's abdomen, and licks at the mess on it, cleaning him up.
He squirms underneath Mingyu's tongue, cursing out loud at how filthy he looks as he licks him clean, all while keeping eye contact. After a while, he relaxes into it, his stomach no longer tense, as he hiccups, his dick kicking at the contact.
All of a sudden, he dips lower, holding his thighs tighter and licking a stripe along his dick, suckling at the head softly, the way Seungkwan likes it. He moans, startled, trying to squirm away but unable to, held down tightly by Mingyu's hands that have moved up to his hips. All he can do is surrender as Mingyu brings him to completion, coming after he takes the entire shaft into his mouth.
His orgasm hits him so hard he's pretty sure he blacks out. When he comes to it, he's cleaned up and in Mingyu's lap again, his cheek squished against his bare chest. Seungkwan can practically hear Mingyu's imaginary tail excitedly thumping against the leather of the couch, the self-satisfaction radiating off of him in waves.
He rolls his eyes, exasperated. Mingyu won't shut up about this for at least a month. Seungkwan passed out, so what? The last time he had sex was, like, six weeks ago and strangely, also in an office. With Mingyu. Which, frankly, is not strange at all. He obviously has a thing for goading Seungkwan into office sex.
"Don't get cocky, it's been a while." Seungkwan mumbles, nuzzling into Mingyu's soft, full chest, enjoying the warmth of his skin.
"Mm," Mingyu hums non-commitally, still as happy, "Whatever you say."
A beat of silence passes by, before Seungkwan speaks again, suddenly remembering something Mingyu mentioned in the heat of the moment.
"These walls are soundproof, by the way."
"What?"
"There's foam padding in here, idiot," Seungkwan explains, raising his head to look at him, eyes narrowed, "Even if Minghao was outside, he wouldn't have been able to hear anything."
"I just fucked you," Mingyu states pointedly, "And you're thinking about Minghao-hyung?"
"Well, technically, you didn't fuck me."
"Well, technically," he repeats teasingly, "This padding isn't industrial grade."
It's Seungkwan's turn to ask, as he straightens himself up in Mingyu's lap, befuddled, "What?"
"What, you think duplex money comes by easy?" he says, quirking an eyebrow, "Jeonghan made the company get your foam for cheap."
Seungkwan's jaw immediately drops at what Mingyu is insinuating.
What? Could he have been wrong? Is this just stupid, regular foam? He was so sure Minghao wouldn't have been able to hear a thing! Seungkwan worked so hard on finding the appropriate padding, is Yoon Jeonghan really that evil as to sabotage him like this?
"You–" Seungkwan sputters out, "You're joking!"
"I am."
Oh.
Mingyu blinks. "Hyung, there's no such thing as industrial grade soundproof padding," he's amused, as he adds, simply, "Like, it's either soundproof or it isn't."
"... I'm so breaking up with you." Seungkwan says simply.
"Yeah, alright," Mingyu says, rolling his eyes. He settles down, leaning his head back against the couch and adjusting his hold on Seungkwan, before he speaks again, "Let me take a nap first, then you can try."
Seungkwan grumbles, peeved, but ultimately leans back on Mingyu's chest. They'll break up again some other time. Right now, he wants to cuddle.
