Work Text:

The evening was quiet, filled with the gentle light spilling through thin curtains. He sat on the floor, leaning against her knees, and let her do whatever she wished with him. His long strands of hair fell softly between her fingers as she slowly combed through them, untangling each one with care.

Tholindis smiled, watching him close his eyes as if savoring every touch. Her fingers glided through his hair, sometimes weaving tiny braids along the sides—careless, almost childlike, and because of that, utterly sincere.

“You have such soft hair,” she whispered, leaning closer. “Like silk… I could touch it all day.”

Rerir chuckled, lifting his head slightly, a spark of playfulness flickering in his eyes.
“Only all day?” he asked with mock offense. “What about the night?”

The girl laughed quietly, still twining the fine strands together and tying them into tiny knots.
“Maybe I’ll let you sleep at night,” she replied softly, her hand never leaving his hair.

He rose to pull her into an embrace, trying to catch her lips with his. The movement was tender, almost cautious, but she deftly turned away, and his kiss brushed her cheek instead.

“Hey…” he murmured, frowning just a little, though the smile never left his face. “That’s not fair.”
“Who said it had to be fair?” she answered slyly, tracing her finger along his cheek. “I’m just playing.”

He laughed quietly again and lay back down on her knees, pressing his forehead to her stomach. She couldn’t resist running her hand through his hair once more—slowly, as if memorizing every motion. Her voice turned into a whisper as she leaned closer:
“You’re so good… so stubborn, and so warm. I like it when you’re near.”

He lifted his gaze, his eyes shining with tenderness, and tried to move closer again. She dodged once more, but only slightly this time, letting his lips graze the corner of her cheek.

“Patience,” she murmured. “Someday I’ll let you have more.”

Rerir smiled, and she felt his arms circle her waist—not tightly, just enough to feel her presence. Outside, the wind rustled softly, and the room filled with a quiet, homely kind of magic—the kind born from affection, laughter, and a touch of play between two hearts.

Tholindis kept teasing him—averting her gaze, hiding her smile, as if she herself delighted in the little game. The silence thickened with their breathing. Somewhere beyond the window, the wind stirred the leaves, but here, within this tender warmth, time seemed to stand still.

She looked at him—relaxed, trusting, eyes closed—and something trembled in her chest. A light, almost childlike tenderness overflowed within her. Leaning closer, she let her lips brush his nose—barely, softly, like a whisper.

“There,” she said with a smile. “My trophy for your patience.”

He didn’t understand at first what had happened. He only felt that brief, warm moment—like a sunbeam falling on cool skin. A quiet laugh escaped him, and he wanted to say something, but the words melted away, dissolved into the warmth of her hands.

She kept stroking his hair, gentler now, slower, almost like a lullaby. His breathing grew steady; his eyes closed completely. He could still hear her voice nearby—soft, tender, almost like an incantation:
“Sleep… my good one.”

And with his final breath, he slipped into sweet, deep oblivion—into Morpheus’s gentle realm, where all that remained of reality was the warmth of her hands and the faint memory of a kiss upon his nose.
