For the Price of a Soul

Summary:

Dazai heard the subtle shifting of chains, letting him know Chuuya was awake. Before the demon could get up and make his way over to greet him, Dazai cleared his voice, “I have a question,” he said, simply, tone even and without infliction as he stood up. “Demons make deals, do they not?”

Chuuya stared up at Dazai from his position on the ground, mismatched eyes boring into Dazai’s own with an intense scrutiny Dazai had never seen before, “We do…” Chuuya began, his own voice mimicking Dazai’s own lack of emotional inflection, “For a price.”

Back when Dazai still believed Demons and Angels were just myth, he’d heard a story of a man selling his soul to a devil for the knowledge, power and all the worldly pleasures he could ever experience during his lifetime. He’d thought it nothing but fantasy at the time, but now… well, Dazai knew too much to ever truly accept anything as pure fiction ever again.

Even after learning of the existence of Demons, the thought of ever making a Faustian Bargain had never once crossed Dazai’s mind.

Work Text:

- - -The Beginning- - -

Acting as a witness had been a lot more boring than Dazai had expected it to be when Mori first asked for his assistance in overtaking the Port Mafia.

From the way Mori had made the position out to be, he’d expected interrogations and endless questions, but with how smoothly the higher ups accepted both his and Mori’s word of the situation, Dazai assumed that perhaps that the state the old man had left the organization in was bad enough that they were willing to just let new leadership take over if it meant bringing an end to the pointless reign of terror.

After days of following Mori around, sitting in on boring meetings and listening to stupid people talk for hours on end, Dazai decided to explore his new home.

When he finally made his way down to the basement, and into the dungeons, Dazai began to wonder what sort of role Mori would let him play once everything had settled down and power was completely in his hands… he hoped he’d let him learn a thing or two about torture, it seemed like something he could have a lot of fun with.

The eerie sort of quiet had an odd appeal to Dazai, the way his footfalls echoed with every step. Eventually he found an open archway, leading down into a tunnel. It looked old and un-inhabited, like nobody ever went down there.

Most people had a little voice in their heads, one that told them not to go down old, abandoned tunnels, hidden away beneath creepy dungeons. Unfortunately, Dazai did not have that voice. Instead, he had a death wish and unending curiosity, so down he went.

Without any way to track his path, Dazai made a conscious effort to memorize every turn he made through the maze-like structure until he eventually reached a dead end.

Turning back, Dazai decided he'd been off adventuring for long enough, it was best he make his way back to Mori, lest the man begin to worry and decide to send someone looking for him.

As he climbed back up the stairs to the main area of the dungeon, Dazai decided he would definitely return and continue exploring his new find later.

- - -

It hadn’t taken much to convince Mori to grant him free reign of the catacombs that connected the five towers of the Port Mafia. As much as Dazai wanted to convince himself that Mori’s agreement had been due to Dazai’s firm logic in explaining their potential usefulness to the two of them in an emergency, it was obvious Mori just wanted to keep Dazai occupied while he worked, and if exploring the underground tunnels kept him out of trouble, Mori was more than willing to agree.

From what Dazai had been able to discover himself, the underground system had been built by the first boss of the Port Mafia; only him and his executives had known how to properly navigate them.

After the next boss took over, the information had slowly been lost with each death of the original executives, until the last one was executed and the information died with him.

In the following years, the only time the area was used was to torment prisoners and traitors, setting them loose at the entrance and telling them if they could find their way out, they would be free to go. Dazai never found any record of anyone surviving this game.

Idly, he wondered just how many skeletons he’d find rotting beneath the towers…

The next day, Dazai set out to begin exploring. This time he brought supplies, markers to note where he’d been and to make sure he didn’t end up trapped, paper to begin creating a map, and a torch with extra batteries, so that in case he ended up in an area without the light fixtures he’d seen on his first trip down, he’d still be able to see where he was going.

Using the technique he’d learned about for solving mazes, Dazai placed a hand on a wall and began to follow it.

His first real day of exploration was a success. He created two markers at either end of the long tunnel that juts out from the stairwell connecting the dungeons to the underground, and from what he found, there were only passages leading forward, as the wall he’d placed his hand on didn’t once break on either side of the entrance.

The second day, Dazai followed the same path he did the day before, only this time, he made a mark on each of the deviating paths that opened up on the opposing side of the tunnel. He makes a corresponding note in his map, before finally choosing a path and taking it.

Using the same maze trick from the first day, Dazai followed the new tunnel, marking down each deviation in the path and trying to see if he could figure out how each of the initial deviations would match up.

Occasionally he would come across doors, most of them were just empty rooms, but what purpose did they hold? Dazai didn’t know. He assumed they may have been safe rooms or prison cells, but he couldn’t be entirely sure. He came across his first dead body in one of them, and from the state of its decomposition, Dazai assumed it had to have been there for years.

It’s the third day of exploring that leads to the most interesting discovery.

Just as Dazai was making his way back up one of the many paths he was slowly making his way through, Dazai heard a noise up ahead in the main tunnel. Quickening his steps, Dazai came out just in time to see a girl in a pink kimono making her way down one of the yet to be explored paths. Curious, Dazai decided to follow her.

From what Dazai had learned, nobody else ever came down here, yet the girl moved with purpose, as if this was a path she took often. There was no pause in her steps, no careful consideration for where she stepped, she knew exactly where she was going.

Eventually the girl ended up in front of a door and quickly made her way inside.

Dazai waited a minute, once the risk of being seen was gone, Dazai ran up and peaked in through the slates in the door. Beyond it was a room similar to the ones he'd seen before, only this one had been furnished, though it was rather simple. It reminded Dazai of a prison cell, only containing the most basic of necessities– a bed, an empty desk and a small wash area; the ground was the same rough stone as the rest of the tunnel system.

In the back corner of the room though, was something interesting. Dazai's eyes went past the girl he'd been following and landed on a very strange looking boy.

Though he couldn't be much older than Dazai himself, he also couldn't be human… After all, humans didn't have horns or tails and they definitely didn't have wings.

The next thing Dazai noticed about the boy was the long chain embedded into the wall behind him that ended at his ankle.

Dazai watched as the girl sat down beside the boy and coaxed him into her lap, where she held him tight and gently carded her fingers through his hair as she spoke softly to him.Dazai couldn't hear what she was saying, but from the way the boys body relaxed, it must have been kind.

Dazai wasn’t sure how long passed as he sat, watching the two behind the door, curiously wondering who they were and what the other boy was… He’d heard rumors about demons in the past, but never had he actually seen one for himself, so he’d never quite been able to believe such a creature existed- until now, that was. It was a bit difficult to deny something that was right in front of you.

An hour passes like that, Dazai watching the two redheads in the cell as they cuddle. By the time they part, the demon boy seems to be looking much more lively than when he'd first laid eyes on him, he helps the girl to her feet and gives her a long, bone crushing hug before settling himself on the mattress.

Realizing he's about to be caught, Dazai bolts further down the corridor until he finds a corner to hide behind, watching as she leaves the room and begins heading back the way she came, Dazai remained in his hiding spot until he could no longer hear the sounds of her shoes clacking against the concrete.

Once certain the girl was gone, Dazai slipped back out from his hiding place and made his way back over to the door. When he looked back in through the slanted window, Dazai saw that the little demon boy seemed to be asleep.

After spending several minutes watching him sleep, Dazai finally decided to leave the catacombs, making sure to carefully map the way back to the main corridor so that he could find his way down to the demon boy's bedroom again the following day.

- - -

Ever since he'd discovered that room in the catacombs, Dazai had begun having the strangest of dreams.

No matter how much or how little he slept, Dazai always woke with the feeling that someone or something had been watching him while he slept.

Dazai hadn't had the chance to go back down and see the little demon boy again, after Mori had finally found some real work for him to assist with, and it had kept him busy for days.

Contrary to what he would have imagined, the dreams were not nearly as bothersome as Dazai might have suspected had someone told him he was being watched while he slept, something about them had an oddly comforting feel to them, not in the normal sense of comfort, but in a way that felt almost like his dreams were being guarded by someone.

So Dazai worked, he completed each task as it was assigned and waited for a chance to return to the catacombs to present himself.

The upside to his current situation was that he finally learned the name of the girl in the kimono– Ozaki Kouyou. Dazai had wanted to ask Mori about her, but he knew that if he suddenly began showing too much interest in another person Mori would definitely begin asking questions, and Dazai wanted to learn more about the other boy himself before finally telling him anything.

It wasn’t so much that he feared Mori would do something to the demon boy as it was him wanting to be able to properly present his discovery to his guardian. To show off his true capabilities and not just his ability to follow instructions and understand basic logic on a higher level than most of the people around them.

- - -  And Now - - -

Like any other domesticated pet, a collared demon needs to be fed daily.

In the past, Chuuya could go days between feedings, but now, Dazai was having to satiate Chuuya's immense, unrelenting hunger at least once daily– sometimes more if he were to exhaust his powers during the day.

When their deal was still fresh and new, Dazai had enjoyed how insatiable Chuuya could be, but as time went on, it had become just as much a chore as maintaining his own inconveniently needy flesh vessel.

Today  was  one of those days… A meeting with a rival gang had gone badly, and they’d brought more manpower than Dazai had anticipated. Chuuya had been forced to exhaust more power than he’d have liked to destroy them, leading to the need for a second feeding that day.

Dazai watched throughout the drive back to the office as Chuuya’s human disguise flickered, occasionally letting his horns or demonic markings show through the glamor he wore when out in public. It was clear to Dazai that it was taking all of the remaining control Chuuya had to hold it in place. Sighing, Dazai realised they probably wouldn't make it back to the office before the last of Chuuya’s power finally dissolved.

Leaning forwards, Dazai got his driver's attention. “Do a couple laps of the building,” he ordered before closing the partition and beginning to work on opening his pants, lest Chuuya destroy the zipper in his haste. “Alright Chibi, take what you need.” Hesitating, Chuuya’s inhumanly blue eyes shifted between Dazai and the partition.

Rolling his eyes, Dazai reached out to drag Chuuya into his personal space by the collar. “I can't have your glamor slipping in public, so take what you need before I make you.” Chuuya let out a growl, his glamor once again shifting as he glared at Dazai, but nonetheless complied with his order, sliding down onto the car floor between Dazai's spread legs before pulling out his still soft cock and taking it into his mouth.

Sucubi saliva was quite possibly the world's most powerful aphrodisiac, meaning it took very little time for Dazai’s cock to harden once in Chuuya’s mouth.

When Dazai finally looked down, he noticed that Chuuya’s glamor had completely dissolved, the bright red markings that painted his body, the thick black horns like a crown atop his head, and the long tail wrapped loosely around his waist– Thankfully his wings had remained sealed away, the back of the car may be spacious, but Dazai doubted it could comfortably fit both of them along with Chuuya’s enormous, batlike wings.

As annoying as it was, Dazai couldn’t help but let out a pleasurable sigh as Chuuya continued sucking him off, running a hand through the copper strands. Dazai began lightly thrusting up into Chuuya’s mouth.

Under normal circumstances, Chuuya would have spent more time playing with Dazai as he sucked him off,  enjoying not only the feeding, but the reactions that slipped past Dazai’s perfectly crafted facade. Unfortunately, Chuuya just wasn’t in the mood to really enjoy himself at that moment.

Tired and angry after being dragged out to deal with a group that the Port Mafia’s military units could have handled just as efficiently as he had. Forced to use power he’d much rather conserve for a real fight!Chuuya just wanted to finish his feeding and take a nap, but knowing Dazai, there was almost certainly more to do once they made it back to the office.

When Dazai finally finished, Chuuya swallowed everything down, the bone deep exhaustion fading away as he fed on the release of sexual energy. His red markings gave off a soft glow as his hunger was finally satiated.

By the time Chuuya had fully recovered, Dazai had put his cock away and resumed stroking a hand through Chuuya's hair, the back of his hand occasionally brushing up against his horns.

It was peaceful.

Unfortunately, peace rarely lasts long these days…

The car eventually came to a stop, and with it, Chuuya's glamour was back in place. Instead of horns, blackened limbs, red markings and a tail, Dazai gazed down to find something unsettlingly human resting against his thigh.

“Time to get back to work.” Chuuya said as he climbed back into his seat right before the driver opened Dazai's car door.

The two walked through the building in relative silence, nobody dared to stop them as they made their way up to Dazai's office.

In only a matter of minutes they were once again alone.

Dazai moved to sit at his desk while Chuuya swept the room, making sure nobody had entered the office space in the time since the two had left for their meeting earlier that day.

Once sure the office was exactly as they'd left it, Chuuya once again dropped his glamor, allowing both his wings and tail to stretch out to their fullest. Dazai continued watching Chuuya for a few minutes before finally pulling out his laptop and beginning to make notes on the events of the meeting prior to it turning into a blood bath.

“So, you never told me what it was you wanted from those people, and you don't seem super angry about how the situation unfolded… were you able to get what you wanted from them before they turned on us?” Chuuya asked as he hovered over Dazai's shoulder, skimming over the report as Dazai typed.

Dazai didn't respond immediately, his undivided attention focused on the screen in front of him rather than the demon on his shoulder. “They didn't have what I was looking for. Continuing to work with them would have been a pointless endeavor,” Dazai eventually responded, resting his head against Chuuya's chest. “They did us a favor by attacking first. It meant we didn't have to go out of our way to dispose of them.”

Unsurprised, Chuuya let out a small growl, “Maybe if you'd tell me what it is you're looking for, I could actually help you find it!” his claws dig into Dazai's shoulders as he spoke. “You didn't sell your soul for hired muscle after all.”

In response, Dazai opened the secret compartment in his desk and pulled out the small, tattered book, along with the black feather with a faint white glow emanating from it.

Dazai could feel the way Chuuya's expression hardened as the two items were revealed to him.

“You’ve got to be kidding me! That's what this is about? The Angel?!” Chuuya was practically bursting with rage. “I thought you'd moved on from that failure of an experiment?” If Dazai looked back, he was certain he would see Chuuya's red markings flicker and burn.

Dazai knew Chuuya wouldn't be happy with him if he told the fiery little demon what he was up to. It was why he'd remained so secretive as he continued to search out places the Fallen Angel he was hunting may have been hiding.

From the first time Dazai had laid eyes on Ryuunosuke Akutagawa, he knew that the boy was no ordinary human. That something otherworldly had taken up residence within his soul… That it was exactly what he’d been searching for.

Dazai just needed to make it manifest.

Opening the book to the page he had long since memorized, Dazai once again began reading… In this world, Oda Sakunouske was a stranger, someone who, had Dazai not come into possession of this very book, he would not have recognised when passing him on the street. But Dazai had become its holder, and he had learned of the man, learned of his fate in every single universe…

The book was a curse.

To know fate, yet be unable to change it on his own, it was the reason he made his deal… the reason he hunted the Fallen Angel… Humans could not alter fate. Nor could Demons, unfortunately.

But Angels… They could change a person's fate, could alter the path of a mortal's life if given a reason. If inspired by their potential.

Ever since discovering the book, Dazai had been obsessed with finding a way to save Oda, to give him the chance to escape the fate destiny had chosen for him and live the life he deserved to live. Every waking moment was dedicated to discovering a way to make it happen.

Dazai’s one mistake had been letting Akutagawa disappear after their encounter. He knew that the boy would eventually return– Dazai had his little sister after all, but after so many years, Dazai had begun to worry that he wouldn’t be able to continue holding back against Oda’s pre-determined fate long enough for the boy to return and do what must be done to cleanse the taint upon the angelic portion of his soul.

With only so much time left, Dazai had begun taking an active role in once again seeking the boy out and forcing him to play the part Dazai had assigned him in his master production.

Every other player had taken their position on the stage that was the port city of Yokohama, all that was left was for Akutagawa to finally make his grand appearance.

- - - Then - - -

When Dazai looked in the mirror that morning to bandage his face, he noticed that the usual dark circles around his eyes had begun to significantly fade.

Dazai didn't think the amount of sleep he'd been getting had changed all that much recently, nor the quality of his sleep.

The only change had been his dreams… the ones he would have after going down to look at the boy in the dungeons… Dazai still hadn't worked up the nerve to actually enter the room or to speak to the other boy, but somehow, he was almost certain that he knew he was being watched.

Dazai never saw the demon boy in his dreams, but there was something there, something that didn't quite feel natural.

Pinning his bandage in place, Dazai made a decision, today would be the day he finally spoke to the boy.

- - -

As with many of the days he'd come down to the catacombs to watch the demon boy, Ozaki Kouyou was already there.

Sat on the floor of the boy's cell, the demon laid in her lap as she stroked perfectly manicured nails through his copper hair and spoke in that gentle way that seemed to put the demon at ease.

Dazai often wondered how Ozaki had found the demon in the first place? How she'd learned to navigate the tunnels and discovered the prisoner they held.

Had she been sent into the catacombs by the old boss at some point? Was she tasked with taking care of the demon? So many questions filtered through Dazai’s head as he sat waiting in his usual hiding spot for her to leave…

An hour passed before Dazai finally heard the telltale scraping of the metal door against concrete as it was opened. Dazai began listening to the click of her shoes until the sound had faded with distance before finally extracting himself from the corner he’d hidden himself in and made his way over to the door.

Expectedly, the boy seemed to be napping, curled up on the ground as he often did after one of Ozaki’s visits– Dazai didn’t know why the boy always seemed to nap after she left, and he wondered if communicating with humans was physically taxing for demons, or if it had something to do with the way she would hold him. The few times he’d beaten Ozaki down, he’d noticed that the boy’s pallor seemed to improve as her visits went on. Dazai’s questions were practically endless.

Taking a breath, Dazai steeled himself to finally make his move. He’d been watching the boy for long enough, and it was finally time to introduce himself.

The scraping of steel against concrete once again echoed through the empty catacombs as Dazai pulled the door open.

The copper haired demon didn’t move, didn’t look up, didn’t acknowledge Dazai in any capacity as he came inside and sat himself down a few feet from where he was laying on the ground.

Dazai only knew that the demon was awake because of how his tail moved. Dazai had long since noticed that when he slept. The boy’s tails curled around him, almost like the long appendage was hugging him. Right now though, it was swaying back and forth, half draped over the boy, it flicked back and forth in the space between the two of them.

It took every ounce of self control he had not to reach out and grab at the tail as it swung past him, not sure how the demon attached to it would react to it being touched. Dazai had felt the sting of one to many cats' claws upon touching their tails to risk the same thing happening at the hands of a being whose claws looked sharp enough to cut through more than just a few layers of skin.

While waiting to see how long it would take for the demon to finally turn his way, Dazai began looking around the room. It was just as bare as it had always seemed from the outside, only the sparse few furnishings that the demon never seemed to use filled the space. It made Dazai curious as to what the demon did to entertain himself. He couldn’t imagine sitting in such a blank, empty room with nothing to occupy his mind… He’s pretty sure such boredom would drive him insane.

Yet Dazai found nothing. No books, no papers or pens, and not a single piece of technology to link him to the world outside these four walls…

Eventually, his eyes were once again drawn to the chain around his ankle, the length just long enough for him to touch each of the walls of his cell and not a link more. This close, Dazai could see the rune patterns etched into the ankle cuff, the markings presumably being what kept the demon locked within the cell.

Lost in his own world, observing the demon, Dazai didn’t notice himself falling asleep until between one long blink and the next, Dazai was no longer in the cell, but instead another stone structure… This one was furnished with a large throne-like chair atop a dais and surrounded by red candles lit with ominous black flames.

Seated on the throne was the little demon boy– looking even smaller than usual as he was practically swallowed by the oversized piece of furniture.

Mismatched brown and blue eyes met Dazai’s from across the room. “I wondered how much longer it would be until you finally decided to grace me with your presence, human,” the demon said, his voice rough as he addressed Dazai for the first time.

“How long have you known I was watching you?’ he asked, curious as to when his presence had been noticed.

The demon smirked, “Since the first time you stepped foot down into my domain.”

He’d known he was there the whole time, and yet hadn’t made a single move to let Dazai know. Not that Dazai hadn’t already realized that the demon had to have been aware of him at least in some capacity.Considering the eyes on him in his dreams and the way his overall sleep had improved since he’d begun his exploration of the catacombes… He just hadn’t realised how long the demon had been consciously aware of him.

This whole time… Dazai could have been talking to the demon, in the catacombs or in his dreams. It made him feel like a fool, thinking he was being careful not to get caught by either redhead. Instead, the demon had known of his presence since the very beginning.

“Your thoughts are very loud, it would have been impossible not to notice you, even if I'd wanted to.” The boy continued, “Many humans have come down into the catacombs since I was caged there, but you're the first aside from Kouyou Ane-san to have figured out how to navigate them… When you first showed up, I expected you to perish as all the others had.”

Dazai wondered how many of those that had tried their luck escaping through the catacombs had stumbled across the demon's room. How many were tempted to enter his cell as they sought a freedom they would never again know.

“If you’ve known about me from the beginning, why didn’t you ever try speaking to me in my dreams before today?” Dazai asked, his curiosity finally reaching his limit. “You’ve been watching me for a while, why not reach out?”

The demon frowned, “I couldn’t. This was the first time you’d been close enough for me to bring into my inner world.” He began to explain, “Before when you’ve slept, I've only just been able to reach out enough to gaze upon you… and steal away the occasional nightmare that plagued your slumber.”

Well, that explained why his sleep had been so much more restful recently.

“Do you have a name? I’d like something other than ‘the tiny demon boy’ to call you.” Dazai didn’t know if it was smart to ask his question as he did, unsure if the demon would take insult at being called tiny or not.

The demon leveled him with a glare before finally responding, “It’s Chuuya.” he was unamused by Dazai’s words. “And you? It’s rather rude to not introduce yourself when asking for someone's name, is it not?”

Chuuya.

Dazai liked the sound of that.

“Well, Chuuya.” he said, enjoying the way the other boy's name rolled off his tongue, “I figured that since you’d already been inside my mind, that you’d already know my name.” he replied, unable to contain the teasing tone of his voice.

The demon just rolled his eyes, “I do… But I still want you to introduce yourself properly.”

The two stared at one another in a deadlock for several minutes before Dazai finally relented, “I’m Dazai. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Chibi-demon Chuuya.”

Again, Chuuya looked at him with another unamused expression. “I was led to believe humans were meant to possess self preservation instincts… are you defective?”

Defective was certainly one way to phrase clinical depression. “By most human standards, I guess I could be considered so, though I think I prefer to be called unique.”

Chuuya went quiet again at Dazai’s words, clearly thinking about what he’d said, if the contemplative look on his adorable face was anything to go by.

“Unique is certainly one way to describe you… you're definitely different from all the other humans I've met before.”.

That comment got Dazai’s attention, how many humans had Chuuya met before him. How long had he been chained up within the catacombs beneath the port mafia towers? Did anyone else aside from himself and Ozaki know about him? Dazai didn’t know where to begin with his questions, his head filled with more than he was sure he could ever ask since that first afternoon when he’d followed Ozaki Kouyou down the tunnel that led to Chuuya’s prison cell.

And even if he asked, would Chuuya even be inclined to answer him, would his answers be enough to satisfy Dazai’s curiosity?

The most important question that Dazai needed to ask was where he’d been taken from? Dazai was certain he’d not left the catacombs, but this place looked so different from anything else he’d seen so far.

“I have a couple of questions, if you’d be willing to answer them.” Dazai eventually said, Instead of responding verbally, Chuuya just gave him a ‘go on’ hand motion, which Dazai was all but ready to run with. “Firstly, where are we?”

“Exactly where we were before you fell asleep, we’re in my room.” he replied, his tone almost bored as he answered Dazai’s question, “But to be more specific, we’re within a dream.”

In a dream? Dazai guessed that-that made some sense… Each time Dazai had sensed the demon before, he’d been asleep and dreaming. Perhaps this was the only way he knew to properly communicate with humans. “Who’s dream are we in, mine or yours?” He wanted to assume it was Chuuya’s dream, considering he’d never once seen or been in a place like this before, but he didn’t want to make assumptions without all the facts– perhaps the demon had a way to manipulate the dreams of those he made contact with.

The demon seemed to take a moment to contemplate his answer, “Both, kinda… You're the one dreaming, but I created the space we’re currently standing in.” he replied, slowly, as if unsure of how to properly explain what he was doing. “My magic allows me to enter and manipulate dreams to an extent, though I still need to be within relatively close proximity to the dreamer to properly influence their dreams to this extent.”

Magic.

Such a strange thing to consider actually being real, Chuuya’s words only brought up new questions rather than answers. Was this the only magical ability Chuuya had? Or could he manipulate other things? Was this dream walking ability why he’d been caged up so far below ground, to keep him out of the minds of the Port Mafia members who lived on base?

There was so much to ask.

“How long do we have before I wake up?” he needed to know how long he had left to ask his questions, if his time was limited, he needed to use it wisely. Lest he waste it on pointless questions.

“Time in the dream world runs very differently to the outside world, hours could pass in here long before any relevant time passed out there.”

Dazai could only smile at that revelation. He had all the time in the world to hopefully satiate his practically endless curiosity.

- - - And Now - - -

Sometimes, during the moments before he properly woke, Dazai would feel Chuuya running a clawed finger over his empty eye socket, his touch was always far more gentle that the look of those sharp talons would lead one to believe the demon capable of.

When touching Dazai as he slept, it was almost always with a sense of reverence… A softness rarely offered to anything else outside of their shared bed. Though Dazai doubted he’d ever admit such a thing, even under intense torture. He always enjoyed the change in the demons demeanor while he thought Dazai asleep.

After several nights of restlessness, caused by Chuuya’s irritation at finally learning the full extent to Dazai’s plans, last night's slumber had been peaceful. Though he could not quite remember what he’d dreamt of, at least he knew it had been pleasant.

The feeling of warmth radiating off of the demon sharing his bed told him that it had been a pleasurable experience for both of them.

While they didn’t often fuck in Dazai’s dreams, occasionally, Chuuya would indulge in his true nature and sneak his way into Dazai’s unconscious, seeking out pleasure that often left them both with a deep, pleasant haze over them come morning.

“So I take it I’m forgiven?” he asked, as a yawn finally found its way past his lips, alerting the demon to his wakeful state.

“I wouldn’t quite phrase it like that, but I’m hungry, and you satisfy my needs far better when you're well rested. So be grateful I still have use for you, or I’d still be letting you suffer in the dark void that is your mind.” Chuuya replied, poking his sharp claw into Dazai’s cheek, just enough to almost draw blood.

Dazai let out a quiet chuckle as he gazed up into the dark, heterochromic eyes of his demon, of course he would claim that it was an act of selfishness that led to him finally granting Dazai a peaceful nights rest. He’d been just as allergic to sentiment as Dazai himself since the formation of their contract. Dazai nodded as he tugged on Chuuya’s collar, switching their positions so that he was the one leaning over the other.

“Of course. Well, how would you like to be satisfied today, my dearest Chibi-Demon?”

His nickname got him the same dark glare it had been earning him since he had first uttered it as a child.

“I want to be fucked like you mean it… as if you can’t breath another breath if it’s not stolen from my lungs. I want you to take me like you own me!” Chuuya said, his eyes intense as he spoke.

Dazai could only smile as he tipped Chuuya’s chin just enough to connect their lips, “Oh Chuuya… I do own you,” he replied before closing the last of the gap between them and swallowing down the next moan to slip past Chuuya’s lips.

With not a single clothing item between them, slipping between Chuuya’s legs and taking his cock in hand took no thought at all, as he continued devouring the demon's mouth. A few quick jerks of his wrist was all it took to bring the succubus to full hardness before letting his hand wander down to the wet, warmth that was his hole.

Of all the things Dazai enjoyed most about sex with a sex demon, it was the self lubrication. Dazai didn’t want to think about how much he’d be forced to invest into lube without it. Sliding two fingers inside, Dazai quickly located Chuuya’s prostate with the practiced ease of someone who had years of experience bringing the demon pleasure.

Their kiss broke as Chuuya let out a pleasure filled gasp that quickly devolved into a groan as Dazai continued supplying pressure to the gland. When the sounds leaving Chuuya turned to whimpers, Dazai added another finger as he applied just a touch more pressure.

Sharp talons dug deep into the flesh of Dazai’s shoulder as Chuuya wrapped his legs tightly around his waist, a hot jet of cum painted both their chests as Chuuya came for the first time that morning.

While not normally a fan of pain, Dazai had long since become accustomed to the sharpness of Chuuya’s claws, and had even begun to enjoy the way they cut into him when he allowed Chuuya the privilege. The demon was always careful not to dig too deep or tear him open too much and always made sure to clean up any wounds left behind once they were done, so Dazai had little to complain about in that regard.

Pulling his fingers from Chuuya’s hole and guiding the demon so he was once again laid out on the bed, Dazai stole another kiss before dragging the demon's attention back to him. “I’m gonna fuck you now, are you happy laid out like this, or should a flip you over and fuck you like the cheap whore you wish you were?” Dazai practically growled out, enjoying the way Chuuya’s eyes dilated at his words.

“Like I'm your whore… nobody else's." Chuuya practically gasped out as he leaned in for another breath stealing kiss.

Indulgently, Dazai connected their lips once again, tasting the natural sweetness of them before doing as he’d said, forcing Chuuya onto his knees and shoving his face into a pillow before easily thrusting himself into Chuuya’s waiting hole.

A muffled scream emerged from where Chuuya’s face was buried among the pillows, his tail lashing out before wrapping itself around Dazai’s waist as he quickly set the rough, punishing pace he instinctively knew Chuuya craved.

While sometimes tedious and exhausting, there were also days when Dazai enjoyed feeding Chuuya, dragging the pleasure out and letting Chuuya gorge himself on the raw, sexual energy filling their bedroom as Dazai fucked him hard and fast. Dragging orgasm after orgasm from him before finally giving the succubus his own release. Filling his holes with cum and watching the way it made the markings painting his body glow as he took it all in.

And with no pressing matters to attend to that morning, Dazai was free to indulge them both.

Dazai didn’t slow his thrusts, even as Chuuya’s second orgasm overtook him, continuing to fuck into him, one hand still pressing down on the back of his neck, while the other roughly jerked him off in time with his thrusts.

It had taken quite some time for Dazai to figure out how to induce overstimulation in a creature whose body was specifically designed to accept and feed on pleasure. The ego boost that filled Dazai the first time he’d pushed Chuuya beyond overstimulation, dragging a second orgasm from him before he could recover from the first had never truly subsided– in fact, Dazai was pretty sure it had only made him even more insufferable.

Just as the next wave of pleasure rolled through Chuuya’s body, Dazai dug his fingers into the demon's hair and yanked his head back, the oxygen once again filling the demon's lungs increasing the intensity of the orgasm.

Dazai was almost certain there had to be a thick puddle of cum drenching their bedding by this point. He idly wondered just how many orgasms he could consecutively drag from the succubus before it became detrimental to Dazai’s health… something to explore another time. For now, Dazai was ready to finally seek his own release.

Pulling out, Dazai flipped Chuuya onto his back once again, uncaring for the mess beneath him. It wasn’t like Chuuya cared for the state Dazai left him in after one of their intense feeding sessions.

Unsurprisingly, Chuuya was still hard, when Dazai ran a hand down its length, he found his balls too, were still heavy. It was a good thing Dazai was in a giving mood that morning.

Forcing his legs apart, Dazai once again slipped inside Chuuya’s wet, waiting hole and easily set himself a rhythm that focused on bringing him his own release rather than focusing on Chuuya, as he had been prior.

Boneless and delirious, Chuuya weakly reached for Dazai, his tail still somehow wrapped around his waist, not much help in his blissed out state. After letting him suffer for a few minutes, enjoying the pathetic sounds escaping him, Dazai finally relented and came down for another kiss.

In Dazai’s opinion, nothing in this world tasted as divine as a pleasure drunk succubus. Kissing Chuuya had been one of the few great pleasures of Dazai’s life since the first time the two had locked lips, and even as the years had passed, the experience never grew old.

Dazai hoped that when he finally drew his last breath, he could do so as he pressed up against Chuuya, stealing one last kiss as the life finally faded from his mortal vessel.

With that thought filling his mind, Dazai came, hot cum filling Chuuya’s insides as he bit down on Dazai’s bottom lip, their moans coming out in tandem as pleasure finally washed over Dazai.

When the bliss faded and Dazai’s wits returned to him, he looked down to find that Chuuya was still hard. Though Dazai could tell from the look in his eyes that Chuuya’s hunger had been satiated, his body still wanted more.

Pulling out and laying down beside the succubus, Chuuya’s tail carefully fell away as the human made himself comfortable. “I think I have the energy to give you one more orgasm before I’ll need a nap. How do you wanna take it?”

Chuuya was quiet for a minute as he gazed down across at Dazai, the lazy flickering of his tail let Dazai know he was thinking. “Do you trust me?” Chuuya eventually asked.

Adjusting his position to look more closely at Chuuya, Dazai thought about the question. Chuuya wasn’t the type to ask such things pointlessly, and if the demon was asking for trust, it meant that what he wanted would probably be at least somewhat dangerous– more dangerous than sex with an insatiable succubus already was.

Pulling Chuuya close, Dazai pressed a soft kiss to the corner of his lips, “With my life,” he answered easily, not sure what he was agreeing to with those words, but not really caring in the end…

While, yes. He did own Chuuya… Until their contract ended, Chuuya was his to use as he wished, but he was also Chuuya’s. Until his eventual end came, his body was Chuuya’s – to use and feed from in any way he wished. Dazai cared little for his own flesh, whatever Chuuya wanted, he could have.

Smiling, Chuuya climbed off the bed, before adjusting the positions of a few of the pillows and guiding Dazai to lay across the bed with his head at the edge. “I need you to remain perfectly still until I’m done. I don’t want to accidentally go too far and cause more damage than I plan to.” Chuuya said as he made sure Dazai was positioned perfectly for what he had planned.

Chuuya’s phrasing caused a slight bit of nervousness to bubble up inside him, but not enough to put a stop to whatever the demon had planned.

“Close your eye.” Chuuya said, as he waved a hand over Dazai’s one good eye, “And remember, don't move.” Dazai complied with Chuuya’s request, closing his eye and taking a calming breath as one of Chuuya’s hands came to rest against his chest, the other coming up to graze the eyelid of his empty eye socket.

Without further warning, his eyelid was pulled open and something was shoved into the socket. Clutching at the bedding beneath him, Dazai did his best to suppress the scream that attempted to rip itself from his throat at the intrusion.

A deep, guttural moan escaped the demon as he bottomed out, Dazai could feel Chuuya’s pelvis pressed up against the side of his face, the stretch of the skin around his eye ached as Chuuya slid half way out before thrusting back in. Chuuya’s thrusts were slow and measured, taking care with how he aimed his cock as he buried it in Dazai’s face.

Everything inside of his socket burned, but still Dazai remained still, and slowly, the speed of Chuuya’s thrusts eventually began to quicken. Something damp began to seep past the cock thrusting deep inside him, and dazai couldn’t be sure if the warm liquid was blood or tears.

Clenching his other eye closed, Dazai did his best to breathe through the pain. He tried to focus on Chuuya’s moans to ground himself, but it was no use. Each sound of pleasure only seemed to amplify the pain Chuuya’s intrusion caused. All Dazai could do was lay there and hope Chuuya finished quickly.

Objectively, Dazai knew Chuuya would stop if he gave the order, but something stopped him from allowing the words passage to his lips… Perhaps it was the long held obsession Chuuya has had with his eye socket over the years since Dazai’s eye had first been ripped out. Or maybe it was that Chuuya so rarely actually asked for anything just for himself, usually content to just take whatever Dazai was willing to give. Regardless, Dazai planned to allow Chuuya to finish.

No matter how much pain it left him feeling.

When Chuuya let out a final gasp and cum filled Dazai’s empty eye socket, the human finally allowed the pained whimper to escape him. Chuuya was quick to ride out his last orgasm before finally pulling out, and Dazai knew that he shouldn’t look, but some sick part of his brain had to know what Chuuya’s cock looked like covered in blood and gore.

It was disgusting, but still, Dazai couldn’t tear his gaze away.

Uncaring of the mess coating his cock, Chuuya quickly climbed back onto the bed to join Dazai. At some point while he’d been skull fucking Dazai, his wings must have popped out, as Dazai felt both them and Chuuya’s tail wrap themselves around his limp body as Chuuya began kissing at and licking up the cum dripping from his eye socket. Dazai whimpered again when Chuuya’s tongue slid past the heavy lid and began licking up the mess he’d left inside of it.

Were Chuuya human, Dazai would have been disgusted, but somehow, as the succubus saliva began to ease away the pain, all Dazai could feel was tired.

Chuuya took his time, but eventually he seemed to have cleaned Dazai’s eye socket of all of his cum. There was still an ache he couldn’t quite name buried deep within the gaping wound in his face, having stretched in a way the socket was never made to stretch, but so long as Chuuya was content and Dazai didn’t end up with an infection, he’d allow the act to pass without too much comment.

He’d just be sure to ask questions the next time Chuuya asked him to trust him.

- - - Then - - -

It had been two years since Mori’s successful takeover of the Port Mafia and muchhad happened in that time. Kouyou, no longer the only person caring for Chuuya, was able to dedicate more time to her craft, her skills had caught Mori's eye and she was quick to climb the ranks of the  Port Mafia until eventually she claimed one of the Executive chairs for herself.

Chuuya had also gone through the demonic version of puberty, causing not just his body but also his brand of hunger to evolve… Previously, he'd fed off of the affection of those around him,but now, as a full fledged succubus, he'd grown to crave sexual energy.

Something Dazai took great pleasure in providing.

Kouyou wasn’t the only one who found her way up the ladder of success. Dazai had also proven his use to the Port Mafia, filling another open position at the head table, helping Mori turn the organization into a criminal empire the likes of which Japan had never seen before.

The only thorn in Dazai’s side was the little book that had found its way into his possession.

Dazai didn’t know how or why the book had found him, only that it knew things… about him, about the people in his life, people he didn’t even know… at least, not in this version of reality.

The book was cursed– Or perhaps Dazai was, by the knowledge the pages gave him… it drove him to the brink of madness. Asking questions he’d never have cared to ask in the past, obsession settling into the dark, empty hole in his chest as the book continued guiding him towards one specific person.

Sakanouske Oda.

Odasaku in another life…

The book showed Dazai others' fates. And from what he’d gathered, it was Oda’s fate to die in every universe. Be it in a revenge driven fit of calm rage, or saving others from fates far worse, each iteration of the man was cursed to fall.

Something had shifted inside of him as he learned all of this, the desire to see if he could change this man's future slowly became his whole world.

At least, until he’d been informed that ordinary humans couldn’t change fate, that what was destined would always happen. That death would always catch those who crossed his path…

Demons too, could not alter a human's predestined fate.

But according to his many reputable sources, only one creature had the ability to alter fate's plan.

Angels.

Like demons, Dazai had been skeptical about their existence when he’d first heard rumors about them. But eventually, he was forced to accept that if he was going to save this man, perhaps faith was something he’d have to find it in himself to have.

Chuuya, had unfortunately spent nearly his entire life locked away in one prison or another, the things and people he’d interacted with over the years having been limited to what had either been brought into his cell, or the occasional dream he’d been able to find his way into, so he lacked the information and experience to help Dazai hunt down an angel.

It had been difficult to suppress his disappointment when Chuuya had explained his inability to help, even more so when he had to try and find the words to explain why he felt it so important to dedicate his time to saving a man he’d never actually met in this lifetime.

If he were being honest, even he didn’t fully understand the compulsion he had to help this man, but every time he picked up the book and it guided him to the pages upon pages dedicated to Sakunouske Oda, he couldn’t help but want to see what he could become if only fate offered him the chance.

- - -

While the idea irked him, eventually Dazai decided that the only option left available to him was to question the one man who nothing ever seemed to phase. Demons, phantoms. Mori Ougai had never once blinked an eye as being informed of the existence of the supernatural. It had made Dazai wonder if the older man was also of another world, or at the very least, had dealt with something otherworldly earlier in his life.

That afternoon in Mori’s office, when he’d asked him his opinion on the existence of angels,  for the first time in Dazai’s memory, he’d ever seen an uncontrolled emotion cross the man's face. Something like shock and worry slipped past the perfectly controlled mask he’d worn every day since Dazai had first met him.

Something in his demeanor shifted as he sat across from Dazai. Elise stood at his side like a sentry, ready to strike. “What reason do you have to seek out an angel, Dazai?” he asked. “Is your little succubus not enough for you any more?” Were Dazai anyone else, he probably would have missed the nervousness buried in Mori's words.

Unfortunately for the other man, Dazai knew him too well, he could read his tells and catch the slightest changes in both Mori’s words and facial features when something got past his walls.

“Credible sources tell me that angels are the only beings in existence with the ability to meddle in fate. I’d like to talk to one about helping me with a personal project,” he replied, uncommonly honest with his reply.

If Dazai was going to get anything from Mori, he expected that honesty would be the best policy this time round.

Mori shared a look with Elise before returning his attention to Dazai. “Is that so?” Dazai nodded. “Well, from what I know, angels are notoriously difficult to bargain with. They don’t think much of humans and only those that are able to spark their curiosity are ever granted an audience with one. Not to mention the privilege of asking a favor of one.”

It was obvious to Dazai from the way Mori spoke that his words came from experience. Mori had met an angel at some point in his life. “What did you do to gain the interest of an angel?” Dazai asked, not bothering with pretences. He didn’t have the time for fancy wordplay or manipulation, Dazai only had so much time to work with and to him, every minute was precious as they counted down to Oda Sakunouske’s eventual death.

“You seem pretty confident in your assessment that I've had contact with an angel at some point in my life. What makes you so sure?” Mori wasn’t denying his words, that was a good sign.

“Ever since I first told you about Chuuya, you’ve taken every strange or supernatural thing I've ever told you without ever requesting a single shred of proof to back up my claims,” Dazai began, keeping his voice steady as he maintained eye contact. “I’ve been convinced for a while that either you yourself were something otherworldly, or that you’d already made contact with someone or something from another world, your reaction to my mention of angels only sealed my suspicions.”

Mori held Dazai’s gaze for several moments before letting out a tired sigh and standing up. He headed for the liquor cabinet and poured himself a drink, and after a long sip of the amber liquid, Mori turned back to Dazai. “During the war, there were countless incidents where I should have died, attacks I was just barely outside the deadly range of. Missions or tasks that were adjusted last minute, leading to me avoiding situations that left no survivors.”

“At first, my fellow soldiers thought me to be the luckiest man to ever enlist and serve, then… after a while, they began to think it too coincidental that I had been able to either escape or avoid being among the countless casualties the war had taken… some had even begun to suspect me of being a traitor.”

Dazai quickly caught on, “But you weren't, were you? You just happened to gain the favor of an angel, am I right?”

Draining his glass, Mori nodded. “I didn’t know it at the time, but one of the nurses working alongside me wasn’t human.During an attack, I’d moved to protect her, shielding her from the destruction raining down around us– not that it would have harmed her, but regardless, that act ended up saving my life and altering my fate.”

“Where can I find this angel?” Dazai asked, standing up so fast he knocked over his chair, “I need to speak with her immediately!”

Using his empty glass, Mori pointed towards the young girl still standing beside his chair. “She’s right there,” he spoke as if merely introducing Dazai to a colleague, not admitting that the young girl who had been following Mori around for as long as Dazi had known him was a powerful, otherworldly being capable to altering the fate of one man's world on a whim.

Gazing down at Elise, Dazai tried to sense something– anything from her, any clue or sign he’d previously missed that could have revealed her identity to him earlier, but he found nothing. Demons had horns, tails, wings… their bodies were decorated in wild patterns, not to mention the blackened flesh of their arms and legs. Dazai had presumed that Angels too would have features that distinguished them from mere mortals.

But Elise looked no different to any other young girl.

At least, she did. In the blink of an eye, silver light seemed to wash over her, and standing in the young girls place was a woman with long, glowing, white blond hair and platinum feather wings, a bright golden halo of light at the back of her head and in her hand a long silver blade that Dazai was certain would cut through flesh and bone as easily as a hot knife through butter.

Dazai had thought Chuuya’s true form was made to strike fear into the hearts of man… but faced with this… Dazai wasn’t often overcome with fear, but in this moment, he felt he should have a healthy dose for the woman standing in front of him.

“Dazai, I’d like to introduce you to my personal guardian angel, Elise.”

Those words spun through Dazai’s head on a loop as he continued to take in the sight of the ethereal being standing before him.

Personal Guardian Angel.

She was exactly what he was after.

Before Dazai could so much as utter another word, the angel moved like a flash of light, closing the distance that had once been between them in an instant. The cold steel of her blade bit into the bandaged flesh of his throat as she spoke sharply “My services are not for sale. I serve Rintaro and I will serve no other.” They broke no quarter, Dazai could see it in her eyes, the iron will they reflected would neither bend nor break for anyone but the master she had already claimed as her own.

That did not mean she could not still be of use.

“Are you the only angel in this city?” he asked, using a finger to gently push the blade from his throat, “One not already bound to another who I may bargain with?”

Elise's eyes shifted from Dazai to Mori, whom she shared a look that spoke of a thousand unsaid words before her eyes returned to meet Dazai’s.

“Not a true angel… no.” She replied, her voice low and quiet as she responded, “But the remnants of a fallen one have taken root within one in this city. If you can find him and he can earn his wings, you may just have that which you seek.”

Remnants of a fallen… “A fallen angel?” Dazai asked, “will they possess the same ability to alter fate as an ordinary angel would?”

The first smile to grace Elise’s lips came at his words, “That will depend entirely on you.” With that said, another flash of silver light overcame her and once again, there stood a young girl before him, rather than the divine being he’d been speaking with.

Taking the hint that he wasn’t going to get any more information from the girl, Dazai returned his attention to Mori. “Any tips on how to locate an angel, Boss?” Dazai asked, mostly just to fill the silence that had fallen over them at Elise’s words.

“None at all, I’m afraid,” he replied as he refilled his glass, “But perhaps that little book of yours might be able to help you.”

Dazai didn’t know how Mori knew about the book, and honestly, he didn’t have it in him to ask at that moment, instead, Dazai took his leave.

He had plans to make and a fallen angel to hunt down.

- - - And Now - - -

Dazai was running out of time.

Years of planning had led him to this point, everything was in place, all Dazai needed was the final player to take their place on the board.

Fate was a fascinating thing. It worked in its own way –- no matter how many strings you pulled, without the right kind of intervention, the loom of fate would eventually detangle itself and put things back where they belonged.

Dazai didn’t know how much longer the twists and knots he’d created in Sakunouse Oda’s fate would last before they were once again pulled taut.

The book had allowed Dazai to see every previous reality, all of the ways Odasaku’s life had been cut short, allowing Dazai to manipulate things to keep them from happening again, but they were growing closer to the end… soon they would reach a point where Dazai could no longer track the potential future threats to his life.

Even as annoyed as he was at the situation Dazai had created, Chuuya was still doing all he could to help, hunting and stalking through the city, searching out any and all who may have escaped mortal eyes in search for Dazai’s quarry.

Not a day has gone by over the last four years that Dazai hadn’t regretted the initial foundation of his plan to cleanse the tainted remnants within his soul and bring out the true power suppressed below.

“Are you certain the angel’s still in the city at all?” Chuuya asked, one afternoon after another failed attempt to find him, curled up in Dazai’s lap at his desk. His wings wrapped around the chair they were seated on, blocking out all light from their little cocoon created by the burning glow of Chuuya’s demonic markings. “We own this entire city. A rat can move in an abandoned building without you having eyes on it, so what makes you so sure the angel didn’t permanently flee after realizing it had caught your attention?”

Dazai had never once noticed that Elise didn’t age, that she looked the same as the day he’d first met her and Mori. Not until that day in this very office. “Angel’s have the ability to hide themselves among humans, to go unnoticed by those that don’t know what they truly are.” Dazai explained, one of his hands stroking the curled length of one of Chuuya’s horns as he spoke, "That's why it has to be one of us that's looking. You're not human, and I know what he is… it’s why I've put so much effort into finding others of less than human lineage.”

Nudging the edge of one of Chuuya’s wings, Dazai waited for Chuuya to open them so that he could once again see the office door. “Besides, we still have his sister.”

“You really think a fallen angel would care that much about a human relative?” Dazai wanted to laugh at Chuuya's words… wasn't that the pot calling the kettle black considering his own feelings for his very human sister.

“Your hypocrisy is honestly astounding, my darling Chibi-demon.” Dazai said as he pulled him in for a kiss. “What if someone took your beloved ane-san away? Would you simply allow it, just because she’s human?”

The anger those words ignited in Chuuya made his marking burn, were Dazai not already used to the intense emotional changes that caused fluctuations in Chuuya’s temperature, he worried he might have dropped him. “Fine, you’ve made your point, he’s still here somewhere," Chuuya growled out as he readjusted his wings, closing them back up into their safety, “But that doesn't change the fact that you’ve not been able to find him again since losing track of him four years ago.”

Unfortunately, Chuuya  was correct. He’d been able to keep track of Akutagawa for all of six months before he fell off of the Port Mafia’s radar. Dazai had made quite the example of the man foolish enough to lose sight of him that day.

He'd momentarily considered using Gin as bait, putting her into a situation that only her brother would be able to rescue her from, but quickly dismissed it, unsure of how the fallen angel would react after the fact.

It still irked Dazai that while he could find the stories and history of countless other versions of Ryunosuke Akutagawa, but the book had nothing on his universe's version of him. It was like the boy was a blank spot in the universe, nothing seemed to connect with him…

Letting out a tired groan, Dazai once again pulled Chuuya back in for another fiery kiss, the kind he knew would send endorphins to his brain and help him think about what they’d do next.

Kissing Chuuya always seemed to help his brain function, Dazai didn’t know if it was magic, science or a placebo, but it didn’t matter, so long as the succubus kept kissing him back, his long, black claws digging into the thick black coat settled over his shoulders as he pulled him in closer.

Just as Dazai began slipping his hand between Chuuya’s thighs, there was a familiar knock at the door. A part of Dazai wanted to ignore it, to send the girl away and continue kissing Chuuya, but he knew Gin. He knew she wouldn’t be knocking if there wasn’t a good reason for it. With great effort, Dazai pulled himself away from Chuuya and signaled for him to replace his glamor.

Rolling his eyes, Chuuya detangled himself from Dazai as a red shimmer passed over him, hiding all of his demonic traits and leaving him dressed in an expensive blue suit. “Raincheck?” Chuuya asked as he made himself comfortable against the wall behind Dazai’s desk.

“Promise,” Dazai replied as he too fixed himself to be more presentable. “Come in, Gin.”

Not wasting a second, Gin slipped inside, before giving Dazai a bow. “Sir, a figure matching my brother's description has been spotted in the city about an hour ago..” she said, a forced calmness in her voice as she relayed the information Dazai had waited four whole years to finally hear.

“Where?” he asked, voice slightly shaky as he took in her words, “the person who spotted him, are they still tracking his location?”

Gin nodded, “They are.”

It took Dazai a moment to realise there was something else. “What is it, Gin? What else do you have to tell me?”

Nervously, Gin looked down at the floor, “Sir… he wasn’t spotted alone. He was seen alongside a certain man from the Armed Detective Agency.”

Dazai wanted to laugh.

All his years of planning and string pulling, and in the end, Akutagawa found his way to Odasaku’s side of his own free will.

Laughing was truly the only thing he could do.

- - - Then - - -

That night, when Dazai made his way down into the catacombs, he was much more subdued than normal. His mind was occupied by earlier revelations and what they could mean for him and his plans, so much so that he almost walked past Chuuya’s door entirely.

The creaking of the old hinges seemed so much louder that night as he came into the room, still as bare and inhospitable as it had been the first time Dazai had entered it.

As usual, Chuuya was sitting on the floor, pressed up against the far wall, eyes closed and breaths steady and his tail flexed slightly from where it was wrapped around his middle.

Dazai had learned the hard way that it was unwise to wake a sleeping succubus. Instead, Dazai pulled the desk chair out to sit and wait for Chuuya to return from wherever he was currently dreamwalking.

A bit over an hour passed before Dazai heard the subtle shifting of chains, letting him know Chuuya was awake.

And now that it had… Dazai had steeled his resolve, ready to trade whatever was necessary to make a deal.

“What would the price be to help me change a man’s fate?”

Emotion finally returned to Chuuya’s face as he gave Dazai a sad frown, “Dazai… I already told you, demons can’t alter fate.”

Dazai shook his head, “I don’t need you to. I’ve got a lead on someone else  with the skillset to do so. I just need someone I can trust to help me play the long game, someone who isn't afraid to get dirty when it comes to making things happen.”

Chuuya was silent again as he stared up at Dazai, clearly trying to find the right words to say at that moment. Eventually he closed his eyes and let out a sigh. “Life can only ever be bargained for with life, Dazai,” was what he said as he opened his eyes to once again meet Dazai’s gaze.

Well… It wasn’t like Dazai ever thought his life to be worth much in the grand scheme of things. If it could be used to save the life of a man much better than he, then Dazai didn’t see a downside. “Where do I sign?”

For a split second, Dazai regretted the words as they left his lips, watching Chuuya’s heart break as he realised just how little Dazai’’s life meant to him. Then he watched as Chuuya swallowed down the pain, composing himself as he got to his feet and walked over to join Dazai.

“This isn’t a deal one signs on paper, but with blood… and sacrifice.” Chuuya began, a hand reaching out to cup Dazai’s face. “Upon completion of the deal, both your body and soul will be mine to consume however I wish.” His hands rise up and push away the bandages covering Dazai’s eye. “But, before then, you must offer something up to me to seal the deal.”

“Whatever you want is yours to take, Chuuya.” Dazai said, not caring what Chuuya took to seal their deal, he could have anything he wished and Dazai would gladly let him take it.

Chuuya shook his head, “No, I can’t take it. You must give me a part of you, the binding of the deal is sealed through your sacrifice."

In a strange sort of way, that made sense.

Dazai took a moment to contemplate what he wanted to offer up, all the while, Chuuya continued to touch his face with a level of reverence Dazai had never felt before as he stared into both of Dazai’s eyes for the first time.“I wish I knew where the key to your chains were, then I could take you up to my room and have my way with you somewhere far more comfortable while I think about what to give you.”

Just as the words left Dazai’s mouth, the sound of a whip crack echoed through the room, followed by metal hitting the stone ground. When Dazai looked down, he saw the cuff that had been secured to Chuuya’s ankle since the day the old boss had stowed him away within the catacombs, shattered into pieces. “You could have left here at any point…” Dazai said in realization.

Chuuya laughed. “Whoever drew those runes was a fool,” was all he said in reply.

Joining him in laughter, Dazai shook off his coat and handed it to the demon. Once it was buttoned, Dazai took his hand and guided him through the maze of tunnels until they reached the dungeon entrance. “Ready to get your first real glimpse of the outside world in however many years it’s been since you were locked down here?” Chuuya could only smile and nod as he squeezed Dazai’s hand tighter.

Though he wanted to run, to tug Chuuya into the nearest elevator and rush up to his suite and take him on the nearest relatively flat surface, Dazai was patient, walking at a steady pace, allowing Chuuya to look around as Dazai continued navigating him through the large building. Eventually they reached the elevator. The jostling as it moved upwards intrigued Chuuya more than Dazai had expected it too, though his attention was quickly drawn back to Dazai, staring up at him as if he were still the most interesting thing in his world, even outside of his tiny cement prison.

Soon enough, the elevator reached its destination, and once again Dazai was tugging Chuuya through corridors until they reached a tall, sleek black double door. Dazai scanned a card and the doors automatically swung open for them, before closing and locking once the two were inside.

“Welcome to my home,” Dazai said, waving his free hand through the air like a presenter, showing off a prize to his audience. “Would you like the grand tour, or shall we move straight to the bed?” Chuuya grabbed Dazai by the face and dragged him down into a deep, all consuming kiss. When they finally parted, Chuuya looked up at him with hungry eyes, “Okay, to the bed then.” Dazai said, almost breathless.

Clothes were quickly shed as the two made their way towards Dazai’s sleeping quarters, by the time Chuuya was pushing Dazai into the soft bedding and climbing up to sit comfortably on his lap, Dazai was harder than he’d ever been in his life.

The two had been having both real life and dream sex since Chuuya had first begun to mature and feeding off of the affection of others was no longer enough to sustain him, but somehow, this moment felt more intense than any other they’d shared previously.

It often seemed to be instinct that drove Chuuya’s exploration of Dazai’s body, but as Chuuya touched him now, it seemed different somehow, almost as if it were his first time all over again, it was cute. It also gave Dazai time to think.

What could he offer Chuuya to seal their deal?

Once again, Chuuya’s hands found their way to Dazai’s face, tipping it up so that he could look him in the eye before he began peppering his face in soft, wet kisses. Dazai could only let out a pleased groan as he laid back against the pillows, allowing himself to be momentarily distracted by Chuuya’s lips on him.

“I’ll never understand your weird compulsion to cover half your face. Your eyes are so pretty, they don’t deserve to be hidden beneath fabric.” Chuuya said into his ear as he took a break from his mission to kiss every inch of Dazai’s face.

Chuuya’s words were like a lightbulb going off in his brain.

His eye.

It wasn’t something Dazai used, so it wouldn’t be that much of a hindrance to lose– But still, Chuuya seemed to like it.

Sitting up again, Dazai pushed Chuuya back so that he had room to move. “I know what part of me I want to give you,” he said, voice far steadier than he’d have expected, considering what he was about to do.

Sitting back and watching him carefully, Chuuya stayed perfectly still as Dazai lifted a hand to his face and began pressing into the socket. Dazai had never ripped out an eyeball before, so this would certainly be a new experience for him.

The sensation went from uncomfortable to painful very quickly as he continued forcing his fingers deeper into the canal, Dazai had to bite back a scream as he finally felt his nails penetrate past his eyelids. His eye was slippery and hard to get a grip on, even beyond the pain begging him to stop, but Dazai couldn’t stop, he was so close!

Warmth momentarily distracted him from the pain, as Chuuya’s hand was atop his, not moving or guiding him, simply there, a presence to ground him as he continued with his mission.

Finding every last ounce of strength in his body, Dazai forced his fingers those last few inches forward, wrapping them around the eyeball and tugging it free of its socket, this time Dazai allowed himself to scream.

Once the ball was out, Dazai’s eyelid closed around the nerves still connecting it to his face, bloody tears stained his fingers and cheek as he attempted to tug it free of its last connection point.

“I– Chuuya,” Dazai tried to speak, but the pain was too much, he couldn’t get the words out. “Please, take it,” he eventually said as Chuuya’s hands came up to cup Dazai’s as it trembled, “it’s yours.”

Chuuya smiled and pressed a delicate kiss to Dazai’s lips before wrapping his tongue around the eyeball, his hands guiding Dazai’s away as he pulled it into his mouth, his sharp teeth severing the connecting nerves.

A pained whimper was all that was able to escape Dazai as his eye was removed completely from his person.

It took some time, but eventually Dazai was able to once again look up and meet Chuuya head on, his one remaining eye was blurry from both tears and pain, but still he forced himself to watch as Chuuya chewed and swallowed his offering.

“Thank you, Osamu,” Chuuya said, once his mouth was clear, “from now until our deal is done, I am yours and yours alone, to have and to use however you see fit.”

The pain only began to subside when Chuuya pulled him forward and pressed a wet kiss to his damaged eyelid, the ache receding to the back of his mind as Chuuya licked it clean of all remaining traces of blood and gore.

Chuuya’s kisses were magic. If nothing else, Dazai was certain of that.

Suddenly, there was a stirring in Dazai’s lower region, looking down, he saw that he was once again getting hard. Dazai had thought that the pain of ripping out his own eye had killed any remaining desire he may have had to have sex that night, but apparently he was wrong.

“Chuuya…” Dazai said, voice almost a whisper as he cupped the demon's face.

As always, Chuuya didn’t need words to understand him, “Let me take care of you,” he said, his own voice just as soft and gentle as it had been when he uttered Dazai’s first name for the first time. “You just lay back and let me handle the rest.”

Obediently, Dazai followed Chuuya’s instructions, laying back against the pile of pillows behind him and allowing his adorable little succubus to do as he pleased. Chuuya’s touch was careful and methodical as he slowly worked Dazai to full hardness.

After a few more strokes of Dazai’s cock and another deep, breath stealing kiss, Chuuya began slowly maneuvering himself down Dazai’s body until he was faced with his length, wasting no time, Chuuya immediately slid his tongue up the length of it before taking the head into his mouth, Chuuya sucked at the head, tipping his tongue into the slit before slowly taking more of the length into his mouth, small moans escaping him as he swallowed it down.

Once he’d swallowed the entire length, Chuuya remained still, allowing his mouth the warm Dazai’s cock as he took hold of his balls, fondling and massaging them as he continued to watch the way Dazai’s face contorted in pleasure.

It took all of Dazai’s remaining strength to keep his eye open and on Chuuya, even as exhausted as he was, he refused to allow any part of Chuuya out of his sight if he could help it.

A hand shot out to grip one of Chuuya’s horns when he delivered a particularly hard suck to his length as he began to bob his head, working his tongue and teeth in just the right way that the demon knew made Dazai see stars.

The part of Dazai’s brain that never quite shut off, even in the throes of pleasure picked that moment to remind Dazai that the teeth currently grazing his cock had only just severed his optic nerves and just just as easily do the same thing to his dick if Chuuya decided to bite down a little too hard.

At any other time, Dazai was sure that he could have easily let that knowledge slip from his mind, the dull ache still present in his eye socket and the blood staining Chuuya’s lips was too much. With a tug of the horn in his hand, Dazai pulled Chuuya off of his cock, earning him a growl and a glare from the demon.

“Sorry my Chibi-demon, but perhaps I might need a bit of time before I'm comfortable with those pearly whites being anywhere near my dick again.” Dazai tried to laugh it off as a joke as he said it, but again, as Chuuya crawled his way back up Dazai’s body, Dazai’s one remaining eye zeroed in on his teeth and fangs… something he’d never given much thought to prior– well, not beyond ‘hot’ when he would bite and nip at Dazai, but now… well. Dazai definitely needed a minute.

When he was once again seated on Dazai’s lap, Chuuya’s glare softened as he rolled his eyes. “I’m not going to bite your dick off, Dazai,” he said, unable to contain his amusement at the uncomfortable look on Dazai’s face. “I happen to be very fond of it where it is to ever risk damaging it.”

Before Dazai could respond, Chuuya was once again claiming his mouth.

Of all the ways Chuuya could choose to shut Dazai up, that would always be Dazai’s favorite.

- - - And Now, The End - - -

At long last, everything was finally in place.

Knowing the end was so close it almost felt anticlimactic. After all Dazai’s planning and scheming, the last pieces fell into place entirely on their own.

The irony wasn’t lost on Dazai.

Staring out the window of his office one last time, Dazai gazed out at the city below and wondered if it would continue to turn just the same once he was gone.

Beside him, Dazai could sense Chuuya’s apprehension, even with years to prepare for this eventuality, the demon still didn’t seem ready to let go…

Turning from the window, Dazai met Chuuya’s mismatched eyes and smiled, “Please don’t frown, my Chibi-Demon. If this is to be our last day together, I don’t want my last memory of you to be a sad one.” he said as he pulled him in close, “Smile for me, please.”

“Is that your last dying wish? To see me smile?” Chuuya asked, almost devoid of emotion.

Dazai nodded. “It is, will you grant me one last smile before I go out there and meet my end?”

The laugh that escaped Chuuya’s mouth at his words was a sad, broken thing, but still he obliged Dazai, granting him his final request. “If this is truly the end, that means it's finally time for you to pay your bill.” Chuuya said, taking one of Dazai’s hands and placing it up to his lips, pressing small kisses to his knuckles as he spoke.

“My body and soul are yours to take once this is all over, as promised.”

“And you're absolutely certain this is how you want things to end?”

“More sure than I’ve ever been of anything.”

Breaking eye contact, Dazai watched as Chuuya’s eyes shifted to gaze out the window, exactly as Dazai had been doing before. “Alright.” he said, somehow finding the resolve to let Dazai go… “You better leave before I change my mind.”

Dazai leaned in to kiss Chuuya one last time before strengthening his own resolve enough to let Chuuya go. To walk out that door and finally face fate one last time.

- - -

Dazai had always liked to talk, and had always been good at it. Some said he enjoyed the sound of his own voice a bit more than was typically healthy.

Monologuing came easy, saying all the right things to get his enemies worked up enough to fall into his carefully laid traps… that was Dazai’s greatest asset– well, that and his charming good looks.

After all these years, Akutagawa was exactly where Dazai wanted him. The fact that his pet tiger had also found his way up to the rooftop beside the not so fallen angel was just the icing on Dazai’s cake.

Dazai could have only dreamt of such a perfect match up.

And Akutagawa’s wings… they were so white… so beautiful and nearly perfect. It was clear that him falling into Odasaku’s path had been a blessing, and that if Dazai’s plan were to work out, it would mean that in this lifetime, the man's kindness truly would have saved his life.

Dazai smiled as he kept talking, giving the two boys that final nudge to do what must be done, to destroy the last great evil plaguing this city.

And when they moved, in such perfect tandem, the near perfect silver of Akutagawa’s blade piercing him right before he fell, Dazai could only smile as the last few drops of black vanished from the once tainted wings… leaving behind only pure divinity.

Closing his eyes, Dazai finally allowed himself to rest.

- - -

When Dazai’s eyes opened again, he was in a familiar place.

It had been several years since he’d found himself in this place, after Chuuya had freed himself from his chains. Dazai had not had a reason to venture back down into the catacombs below the Port Mafia.

Yet here he stood once again.

Reaching for the door, Dazai forced it open, knowing exactly who he would find on the other side. “I’m glad that you chose the roof for your final showdown. You were the perfect distance from our office that I was still able to reach you.”

The view of Chuuya, sitting on the throne he always summoned for himself to lounge on in their shared dreams, was one he never thought he’d get to see again.

“Time moves differently in the dream world… it won't take long for me to hit the ground now that I’m in freefall, but in here, I could be falling for hours as far as either of us will be aware.” Dazai said as he crossed the threshold and walked up to Chuuya.

Chuuya finally smiled, a true, proper smile, “Like I said, you need to settle your debt.”

The distance between them closed as Dazai leaned in for a kiss. “Well, here I am, everything that I have left to offer is yours to take,” he said as they parted, “However you want me, until the last breath leaves my body and this dream comes to an end… I belong to you, Chuuya.”

A soft shimmer filled the air, and they were transported to their bedroom, Dazai laying naked on their bed, with the beautiful, terrifying visage of Chuuya’s true demon form sitting comfortably atop his lap.

“Thank you, Osamu,” Chuuya said as he claimed Dazai’s lips for the final time.

In all the ways Dazai had pictured his death, none had ever been this sweet.
