back when i first played hollow knight with no spoilers, lurien was the first dreamer i reached. i hadn't really understood the story yet and i was just focusing on exploring, but the moment i entered the dream and heard the music i realized that this was something important. something irreversible. i was not ready. so i tried to get out of the dream.
but there is no exit in a dreamer's dream like the white palace or godhome. unlike the dream bosses you don't even get fall damage. the only way out is to kill the dreamer.
when i came out, the candles had been blown out.
the experience haunted me ever since.
