Work Text:
There’s a child that lives in each of their minds. He’s bloody, broken. Frightened, pained screams taper off into eerie silence. His blank, accusing eyes stare straight at them.
The first to die. Or so they think. So they hope. How many others have they killed whose names they don’t know, whose faces they wouldn’t recognize?
They were once cocky, careless. When things go wrong, they undo it.
Then the child dies in front of them. Cold seeps into their bones.
When things get dire, when other people end up in the crossfire, that’s when he appears.
A haunting reminder.
