Work Text:
It was a simple request, walk Isagi home then he could confess. Rin would confess everything. The moon was out, bright and huge. Isagi blabbered on about their training from earlier.
Suddenly, a cat walked by grabbing Isagi’s attention. He cooed at it before the cat ran under a nearby car. Rin watched as Isagi crouched down, trying to get the cat to come out. His blue hair shone in the moonlight.
Isagi went silent and turned around to look at Rin. “Rin, what are we?” The sudden question made Rin freeze. What were they? Friends? Lovers? Rivals? He didn’t know, why would he? Rin started back at Isagi, his eyes bore into the man in front of him.
A moment of silence passed, neither of them spoke a single word. Rin spoke up, “Rivals.” He messed up. He lied. Isagi looked back at the ground. “I see. Sorry for the stupid question.” Sorry? Why would he apologize? Isagi shouldn’t have.
Isagi got up, dusting off his pants. A small weak smile on his face. Rin hated that look. He wanted to say something else, anything else. Maybe then, maybe then Isagi wouldn’t look at him like that. “I’m going home now. No need to walk back home. See you later. Rin.”
Isagi’s soft voice made Rin reach out for him. He paused, would Isagi even look back? Look back at him? Rin watched Isagi leave, his hands resting on his bag.
Rin was an idiot.
A foolish idiot.
