Work Text:

It had been like every other morning. Slow, grey, foggy, tired, like every other Yokohama morning. Chuuya was in his office doing paperwork. Mission reports, damage control, cover ups, boring duty. He sighed leaning on his hand, eyes sliding over the paperwork.

His phone buzzed on the table beside him, unknown number. Picked it up. He didn’t know why he just did.

Now chuuya had always been a person of much emotion. Ever since he was a child his emotions were a big part of his life. So you can imagine,

“Hello?” Chuuya said dryly, flipping through another mission report.

“Is this Mr. Nakahara?” The other voice rang. There was a certain tone to it that made chuuyas stomach churn.

“Yes?” He replied cautiously. “What is it.” Something rising in his chest. His mind began to spin subconsciously, did a mission go wrong? Did something happen to a member of the port? Did something catch on fire? His mind landed back on dazai. F*ck. Please no.

“Im officer derrick, I need to ask you some questions regarding an incident. Is your husband home right now?”

Chuuyas heart started beating a bit faster, he had a feeling he knew where this was going. A suspicion he wasn’t going to accept.

“No..he’s at work.” Chuuya said, he could really be anywhere honestly that idiot loved to skip work and get distracted.

“Sir, where does your husband work?” The person who was presumably a police officer asked.

“The armed detective agency, why? What’s going on?” Chuuya asked, the words coming out faster than intended and laced with panic. Sitting up straighter Chuuya felt his throat get tight, dazai and him may bicker and fight twenty-four-seven but he was still his husband. His home.

why hadn’t the officer told him anything yet!?

“Hello?! What’s up with my husband??! Why are you asking all of this sh*t?!” Chuuya said, voice rising with panic. His office was locked and soundproof. He knew no one would hear him right now so he didn’t try and keep himself hushed.

After a silence that seemed to last forever but was probably one or two seconds the voice spoke again.

“Sir we have some, difficult news. Please sit down.” The other voice said carefully, like each word was walking on shattered glass.

“No. Tell me what’s happening. Is he hurt?” Chuuya said starting to get anxious and angry.

“Sir, there’s been an accident with one of the detective agencies cars.”

Everything shattered.

“What the hell?!”

It felt like all the oxygen had been sucked out of his lungs.

“An accident?! Is he okay?! Is he at the hospital?!” The words tumbled out of his mouth.

“Mr Nakahara, the accident was severe, we need help determining your husband’s body in the vehicle.”

The world spun.

“Is he dead?! Nonononono— he’s fine. I’ll call him!” Chuuya picked up his home phone. Dazais contact was at the top of the list. He clicked on “Mon amour”’s phone number.

It rang. Once. Twice. Three times. Voicemail.

“No…nonononoNO. This can’t be happening! He’s not dead right?!” Chuuya spat, panic overriding anger.

“We don’t know yet, the van was folded in half, there is a chance of survival but, it’s low.”

Chuuya started shaking, not just his hands. His entire frame shook like a leaf caught in a storm. He can’t. He can’t loose dazai too.

“We need you to come down to the station to—“

Chuuyas home phone rang. The title displayed a name.

“Mon amour”

Chuuya stopped listening to the officer. He grabbed the phone and answered as quickly as he could.

“Osamu?!” He practically shouted into the phone, voice panicked but hoping. Pleading.

There was the groan of metal from the other end, a cough, then a hiss of pain.

“Dazai?! Are you there?! Are you okay?! Please answer me!” Chuuya said voice fraying. “Can you hear me?!” Chuuya said hoping up from his seat. His legs threatened to buckle but he forced them up.

The officer yelled from his work phone “sir! Please do not go over to the site there are trained professionals there getting them out as quickly as possible.”

“I’ll get them out quicker.” Chuuya said, tone final. He left his office. Running. He got on his motorcycle and connected his phone to the helmet.

“Baby keep making noise for me please. You’re okay im on my way. I’ll be there in two seconds. Your okay—“ his voice was panicked but soft.

A thud came from the other side. A cough.

That was all chuuya needed.

Chuuya sped off at the fasted his motorcycle would let him. He ran every red light, broke every speed limit, weaved though every car.

He didn’t care about the fines. He needed to get to his husband.

As shaky breath came from the other side.

Chuuya made it. It was grim. The van was crumpled in half, laying on its side. There was fire trucks and medics swarming the scene. He pushed though all of them. Through all of the “sir!” And the “step away immediately!”. All of them people who tired to restrain him got restrained.

He jumped onto the car, put his hands down, and pried it open. A huge gap in what was once the side of the car.

His eyes scanned the dark. The fire. The rubble. Then he saw him.

Dazai.

In the corner, laying on his side. In a pool of blood. His leg bent in a way that hurt to look at.

But he was breathing. Coughing. Alive.

Chuuya hopped in immediately, ignoring the danger. He rushed to his husband.

“OSAMU!”

He rushed over. His knees hit the metal before his brain caught up. He cradled dazais head in his arms, resting in his lap. Dazais face was pressed to his stomach. Chuuya took one of dazais hands and held it.

“Just squeeze my hand. Just squeeze it baby. Im here. Your okay. Please”

It was faint but chuuya felt it. Dazais hand tightened on his. He let out a sob or relief and kissed his forehead.

The paramedics came rushing in after that and everything blurred.

He didn’t care. He didn’t care about anything. He only cared that his husband was alive. Was here.

Next thing he knew he was in the back of the ambulance holding dazais hand. There was noise, sirens, but he was numb. He was just focusing on his husband.

Then he was outside an operating room, watching them wheel his husband through.

Then he was beside his hospital bed, watching him blink awake. He cupped dazais cheek and looked down at him.

“Hey Osamu?”

“Yea” dazai rasped.

“Never pull that sh*t again.”

Dazai giggled as chuuya kissed his face.

“I love you too chuuya.”
