Wildflower

Summary:

It was almost closing time. She was wiping the table when she heard the bell to the entrance chime. Her back was turned not seeing who the customer was, she forgot to flip the sign board damn it!

She wiped her hands on her apron and turned around.

"I'm sorry but we are about to close. I just forgot to flip--"

She dropped the rag and spray bottle. Her heart stopped, does she even have one? Of course you do, her brain thought. You had fallen for this idiot in front of you.

Not knowing how to react. It can't be,
she thought.
How did he-

"Reze..."

As Denji entered the shop, holding a bouquet of flowers. Same as the ones he gave her in that phonebooth thought these ones looked like they got tired from the way here.

Notes:

This story if for us RezDen fans who are still heartbroken from watching Chainsawman: Reze Arc movie. Hands down a masterpiece and for the history books.

I made this fanfic to give Reze and Denji the chance of Happiness and Freedom they both deserved. It may and may not be in tune with the update manga but some scenes will be from the manga.

I hope you guys enjoy, Happy Halloween.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Seed

Chapter Text

Freedom. May seem to be a simple thing to one but for another it is everything. A Dream, that Reze thought would never come true.

As the moment she was born, she never truly know the meaning of it. She only knew rules, obedience and roles to be filled in. That failure means death. Though at some point she wanted to choose that than be caged all her life.

Different mission, Different Person.
But never the one she truly want to be.
Yet one mission changed her life's trajectory.

"I should've killed him the first time we met"
But You didn't
"I should've killed him in that pool--"
But You didn't
"I should've killed him"
I couldn't.

Reze thought to herself. Those days with Denji, it may have started to be an assassin mission but she truly did like him in the end. Denji was such a good soul, she even felt she's not worthy to be with him.

She wanted his heart, not his chainsaw one.
That kiss, it wasn't even part of the job, yet it felt right. Not the tongue biting of course, well she felt a pang of jealousy when Makima's name was mentioned.

Those days will forever be engraved in her memory. In which she's glad to be freed from Makima's manipulation.

She thought to ran to Denji. But she remembered Makima's words before she passed out bleeding in that Alleyway.

"I should reward Denji-kun for leading me to you. Did you really think he would runaway with you? Choose You Over Me? Pathetic Hybrid"

From feeling happy and hurt about seeing Denji waiting for her in the cafe like he said so... Anger replaced that emotion, Anger from the betrayal.
The moment she finally chose to make her own decision and not follow anyone, she fails.

But then again Makima is full of manipulation and lies. Because if Denji really wanted her dead he could've just killed her in the ocean.. Yet he dressed her, covered her up.

The truth doesn't matter at this point, Reze thought. Denji might've been mad at her for not showing up. Thinking she ghosted him, so one thing she's for sure. She would start a new life.

Because at the end, she really should've chosen to be the country mouse, aiming to be the city mouse only got her in trouble. She thought as she boarded the train going to a Northern rural part of Japan.

............

"Rose. These order is for Table 3"

Reze took the try of food and headed towards table 3. Summer has just begun so the days are getting busy in this small curry shop she works in.

It didn't take long before she got a new job at the curry shop wherein the owners who's an old childless couple had also allowed her to rent the top of the shop.

As long as she makes sure she cleans during opening and closing of the shop. One bedroom and half a bathroom is enough for her, she had worst living conditions back at the training camp.

It also wasn't hard for her to give a reference because the old man in the cafe back in Tokyo was happy to help her talk to the owner of the curry shop.

"He waited for you until the closing time. Even brought your favorite flowers--"

The old guy said, pertaining Denji. The day she and him planned to runaway. Maybe Makima lied or that was a ploy to make it look realistic.

She shrugged the memory of that phonecall,
nothing good will come out of it anyway. Reze went on ahead of her day taking orders, making sure customers are well taken care of.
