Towards a better tomorrow.

Summary:

The trailblaze must continue, but the hope for a better ending is something worth cherishing and clinging to, so that she may face tomorrow alongside us.

Notes:

So, I know I haven't updated my other story, but hsr 3.7 hit me like a truck, and I'm kind of a wreck rn, I wrote this because genuinely I needed to cope somehow, and this was the best way I could find, the fate story should be ready to update this weekend so long as I can recover my happiness by then, anyways, enjoy.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

In that instant, millions of memories drifted toward the future, while a single one began her lonely voyage toward yesterday. She carried with her the hopes of tomorrow. That little memory planted the seed of hope, and her sorrow became the water that nourished love. When love finally bloomed, the destinies of two souls became intertwined—forever bound to meet, yet forever condemned to eternal separation.

That was what the book told him—a story with a bittersweet ending, closing with their parting. The two would meet again once the ice had melted and the universe reached its end. At the twilight of time, they would finally reunite. That was how the story went. But… he was never one to follow the rules.

“Rules are meant to be broken.”

Once a battle cry of defiance, the words now left his lips as a whisper—not of rage or denial, but of hope. Hope for a better tomorrow, hope for a kinder ending. Across the vast and unending cosmos, there were countless mysteries yet to be uncovered, countless worlds left to trailblaze, and countless adventures waiting to be lived. Yet his thoughts clung to one thing only: the lonely pink fairy of Amphoreous, forever bound to repeat her fate so that tomorrow might come.

He chose to accept—but he also chose to hope. He accepted her decision, yet he hoped to find another path. He would move forward toward tomorrow and treasure the future her sacrifice had granted him. But he would also defy destiny. He would bridge the distance between them and weave a miracle into existence.

Amphoreous would be reborn. His friends would return—perhaps not today, nor tomorrow, nor even after he was gone—but they would return, and that was enough. Yet she remained, trapped in the past with no path to the future. Her, he would save. Trailblazing meant forging new paths, connecting the cosmos, and aiding those in need. So he would blaze a new future for her—one they could share this time. For acceptance does not mean losing hope; it means embracing loss and still moving forward.

He would move forward—toward a tomorrow that might never come—to fulfill his selfish vow of granting her a gentler ending. For he would never bow before the Aeons who dictated the laws of this world.

And so, he rose, book in hand and purpose renewed. This story would spread, and from it might emerge an ending unlike any ever seen before—a glimmer of light in a world long acquainted with tragedy. A happier end for a world that had endured thirty-three million cycles, and a future for the fairy who sacrificed her own future for those she loved.

Move forward. Keep trailblazing. For we shall meet again.

Once more, he opened the book and gazed upon the final note, his eyes lingering on the last line—the name of the demigod Cyrene: his companion, his memosprite, and the one he had come to love above all else. Cyrene, who had given everything she was so that he could keep moving forward. With a silent promise of reunion, he turned toward tomorrow. This moment and the past would never be forgotten. He would trailblaze a happier ending. This, he vowed.

“See you tomorrow, Cyrene."

Notes:

So that's it, I honestly hope we can meet Cyrene once more sometime in the future, and I'm going to cling to that hope like a drowning man clings to the rope that is pulling him out of the water. Anyway, have a nice day. I, for now, shall come back to my suffering.
