Chapter Text
It started as just a friendly joke. Mira and Zoey were play-fighting, a common occurrence for alphas in packs together.
They would have brief competitive moments in which they tested each other’s strength and power. Which usually ended how they are now, with the youngest pinned and forced to bear her neck.
Typically, they took this to the gym just a floor under their apartment. It had mats with just the right amount of softness for them not to hurt each other while using more strength than normal.
This was the part Rumi loved to watch most. There was just something so exciting to her about watching them both fight for dominance over the other. Especially when they fought for who would get to claim her first.
Too lost in her daydreams about being taken by her alphas, she failed to notice the two unintentionally pushing each other closer to her. As a matter of fact, she only really saw them once they were practically on top of her.
Mira’s foot caught a hitch in the mat, and both of the girls lost their balance due to it. The two alphas suddenly became a ball of flailing limbs before landing hard on the ground, right on top of Rumi.
If only they had noticed her under them quicker, truly, all of this could have been avoided. But they were too engulfed in trying to be the bigger alpha to see their mate being crushed under them.
Omegas rarely growl; they mostly only do it to keep others away from their mates during their heats or, if necessary, to keep their pups safe. So the surprise of the two girls when they heard and felt a deep rumble under them almost gave them a heart attack.
They both scrambled to get up, trying to prevent making their fellow hunter even more upset by lingering. However, the demon side of their leader was already too upset for just forgetting.
A voice, Rumi’s own, called out in the back of her head.
‘𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒉𝒐'𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆.’ It whispered to her.
Her patterns flared violently as she watched them rise to their knees in front of her. She got up to her own before slowly tracking both of them like prey.
“Sorry, baby. We didn’t see yo-”
Mira was cut off by a heavy snarl. By instinct, she showed her fangs and allowed a heavy rumble to cut through her chest. How dare her own omega snarl at her?
Usually, any domineering noise made by her was enough to silence a room; she had grown used to having that effect since her teenage years. But one look at who she was growling at showed her a fundamental fact: she bit off more than she could chew.
The impressive pair of fangs she sported was no match for those of a 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯. Hers were made for mating marks and shows of dominance. But her mate’s? They were created for ripping apart flesh like it was nothing.
Her ‘claws’ were her manicured nails that just so happened to have a large amount of strength behind them. But the older woman’s 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 claws were for tearing out the throats of demons.
It was those comparisons that made her growl die in her throat just as quickly as it had erupted from her. Her heart sank, and her knees buckled as the truth hit like a truck.
𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘥𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘨𝘢.
She heard a gasp from next to her; it was probably Zoey. The beast-like snarl in front of her finally died down, and there were hands all over her.
If she were thinking more clearly, she would probably say the next strong of events never happened. But she wasn’t doing that; she had just lost her place as top alpha of the pack after all.
“Mir? Are you okay? I didn’t mean to growl at you two like that.” The halfling spoke softly.
No one in the room knew what to expect next. But Mira rolling over and baring her neck was easily the lowest on their list of expectations. The room grew silent as all three evaluated the situation they were put into.
Zoey moved closer to get a glimpse of her face, only to find her severe features flushed a light pink. Taking more of her body language into account, she could see the woman’s labored breathing and her eyes locked on Rumi’s own.
She brought her face right up to the crook of her mate’s neck and took in a deep whiff, trying to gauge more about this situation. 𝘈𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘺 𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴.
“Rums, I think you out-alpha’d our alpha.” She explained slowly.
When she got no response, she looked back at their leader. Truthfully, she was looking back for guidance; she had no idea what to do in this moment.
No calming scent came from her omega to prevent her from spiraling. Rather, she caught two yellow, slitted eyes staring at the meeting point between their mate’s long legs. Zoey pulled herself up to scoot over, trying to get a good look.
Absolutely nothing could have prepared her for the amount of wetness that could be seen pooling through her grey gym shorts.
“Holy shit. You just-” she paused while she thought of what she wanted to say. “You just became like, the alpha of the pack or something.”

“Mira, can we talk?” Came a low voice from outside her door.
The alpha had been lying perfectly still, facing her wall, since leaving the gym. Her brain just couldn’t wrap around what happened.
At getting no reply, the door creaked open softly. It was a new rule that had been made once Rumi revealed her patterns.
The three kept their doors unlocked unless they wanted complete privacy. Leaving her girls able to come in at any time, even when they were upset with each other, or whatever this was.
A weight sank the side of her bed, and there was suddenly a warm hand running up and down her side. She sighed at the feeling before rolling over to face her omega.
“What’s there to talk about? I just got dominated by an omega.” She said, harshness spilling into her tone.
The halfling's patterns flickered purple, shame flooding her senses. She really didn’t mean to imply that her having more dominance like that.
“I’m really sorry, baby. I just don’t know what came over me. My demon side just didn’t like me getting bumped into, I guess.”
There was a pause as both women tried to fully wrap their heads around what had happened. But suddenly, the taller of the two turned to hide her face in her pillows.
“Don’t tell anyone I ever asked you this, but could you do it again?” It was mostly muffled through the cotton, but the redness of her cheeks was still clearly visible.
Oh. Out of all the things the alpha could have said, that was very, very low on the list of them. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t willing to do so. After some more talkin,g that is.
“What was that?” She asked, wanting to confirm.
The taller girl sat up and sighed deeply. “Before you started to embrace your demon side, I was the strongest. I was the fastest when it came to running and swinging a weapon, and I felt like the rock between the three of us.”
This was one of Rumi’s personal favorite traits of the woman. She knew exactly how to express her feelings through words, and she never felt ashamed to do just that. Truly, it was a skill the demon was still trying to learn herself, but having a mate able to do so made it easier than breathing some days.
“But, then, you got stronger. It felt like the strength that I have was nothing compared to yours. And that’s right, it’s nothing in comparison. I can lift you, but you can lift a car if you want. I never said anything before because I was just so happy that you could be yourself, but you being so strong and capable makes me feel like...”
The leader leaned in slightly, waiting for her to finish her sentence. She was hanging onto every word, trying to figure out where this was going.
“It makes me feel like I’m less of an alpha sometimes. I know you don’t mean to do it, and I know this is exactly how Zoey felt when she first met me. I just never expected to feel that way and…like it so much. Is this how she feels?”
There was a brief pause as the omega took everything in. Her memory immediately went to show her instances of Zoey feeling more and more like a runt just by standing next to the pink-haired woman.
But, something about this felt different. This wasn’t fully like the sympathy she felt for their maknae during their training days. Rather, this was more like a rush of arousal at seeing her alpha so happy to feel less than her.
Her patterns flared pink at that last thought, showing her emotions like a beacon. Both women began to softly laugh at that.
There was another pregnant pause. But this one wasn’t about confusion and processing. Rather, it was one of realizing just the full extent of the situation. Mira wasn’t the only one who could dominate anymore.
