I have to pretend I love you, but I hate you —so why did I fall in love with you?

Summary:

Chishiya's parents were trying to make him get into a relationship with girl. Not only did he not know who this girl was, but he was gay as well. So, he did the only thing he thought of in that moment, say he was dating the person he hated the most, of course. Now, Chishiya has to deal with the consequences of his actions, which includes falling in love along the way.

Author's Note: This work is inspired by Lol_fandomlover and their fic called 'Let's pretend to be in love (and maybe actually fall for each other' and ChuoyaNakahara and their fic called 'Words I Promise I Don't Mean', so please go read their fics! They're amazing!

Notes:

I know this first chapter is kind of short, but hopefully future chapters will be longer. Just a heads up, I can almost guarantee that they will be very OOC. So, if this is going to be a problem, then this fic isn't for you. I hope you enjoy the story.

Chapter 1: A Poor Decision

Chapter Text

Whenever you ask someone to describe Shuntaro Chishiya, they may say he’s smart, quiet, or even somewhat attractive. However, if you ask the people (more like person) he’s close to, they’ll still say that he’s smart, but somewhat arrogant and even snarky at times. He doesn’t get irritated easily, normally remaining calm, which tends to irritate others (Suguru Niragi would be a great example). Well, his family would be another example that gets irritated by how calm he is all the time.

Let me show you an example.

November 24, 2024

Now, remember when I said that Chishiya tends to be calm all the time? Yeah, his family seems to be one of the only few people who can irritate him even the slightest. What is he irritated about, you may ask. Well, for the past couple of weeks, his family has been pestering him about a potential partner. Chishiya has been doing his best to dodge these questions, but eventually, they brought up the daughter of a potential business partner. They wanted him to start dating her so the hospital funding could be secured.

Yeah, that wasn’t going to work out for Chishiya. Not only did he not want to date someone he didn’t even know, but he was gay. Sure, he didn’t talk about his sexuality to his partners, but he didn’t think they’d try to make him get into a relationship.

Who was he kidding? His parents were the literal worst. He didn’t want his relationship to be like his parents. So, he did the first thing he thought of in that moment, and said he’s already in a relationship.

Obviously- actually, let me just show you what happened instead of explaining it.

To say Chishiya was irritated would be a slight understatement. His parents kept on bothering him about a girl named Yukio. He didn’t recognize the girl's name for one, two, he was going to be used as a business plan, and three, he was gay.

“C’mon, Shuntaro, if you were to just date this girl, the hospital could get better funding.” His father said as he popped open a bottle of wine. Well, Chishiya could only assume it was a bottle of wine; he was talking to his father on the phone, so it’s not like he could see him. Chishiya knew if this conversation went on any longer, he would get more irritated. “Father, I already have a partner.” Now, why in the hell did he say that? He doesn’t even have a partner.

Chishiya heard everything go silent on the other side of the phone, “Oh, really now? You never mentioned this before.” His father said as he poured the wine into the wine glass. “The topic was never brought up.” Not that Chishiya would say he had a partner (even if he did have one) if the topic was brought up.  “What is the name of your partner?” His father asked.

Also, the topic was brought up many times. He’s a little surprised his father didn’t call him out on his lie.

Well, shit, Chishiya should’ve known this question would be asked. Not only is he going to want to know the name, but he’s going to want to meet said partner as well. So, Chishiya is screwed.

“Suguru Niragi,”

Well, he just screwed himself even more.

“Well, I would like to meet this ‘Suguru Niragi’ soon, Shuntaro.” His father said in this tone that Chishiya couldn’t quite decipher. Probably irritation that Chishiya is already ‘taken’ by someone. “Yes, Father.” “Great, bring them to Thanksgiving dinner.” And with that, the call ended.

Chishiya let out a tired sigh. He’s going to have to do a lot of convincing and explaining.

PRESENT DAY: November 25, 2024

And that’s basically what happened yesterday! Now you may be thinking to yourself, ‘you must be friends with the name of the person that you said, right?’ You’d be dead wrong. Chishiya hates (hate is a strong word; he can tolerate him at times) the man and has no idea how he’ll even bring this up with him, since every time they’ve spoken, it’s ended in an argument. So, he’s been doing what any reasonable person would do: stare at his phone as if it’ll magically solve the problem he just created for himself.

Chishiya sighed before opening Niragi’s contact. He may as well try to get this over with instead of delaying the inevitable conversation that he needs to have.

Chishiya - Niragi

November 25, 2024

Monday, 5:35 PM

Chishiya - Niragi, I need a favor from you.

Not the best way to start a conversation with someone you can barely tolerate, but what else was he meant to say? He may as well get straight to the point. He doesn’t even know if Niragi will respond-

Niragi - i didnt think you would ever ask me for a favor

Niragi - what could have possibly happened that the chishiya needs a favor from me

Okay, so maybe he did respond. Chishiya didn’t think he would respond right away. Can he talk about how much he hates the way he types, though? Seriously, no proper punctuation or capitalization at all, it’s annoying.

Chishiya - I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend this Thursday for Thanksgiving.

Like he said, he may as well get straight to the point.

Niragi - im sorry what

Niragi - what the hell do you mean

Chishiya - It’s exactly how it sounds, Niragi. I don’t need to dumb it down for you, do I?

As much as Niragi annoys him, he has to give credit where credit is due; he isn’t that dumb. Honestly, he’s smarter than he looks.

Niragi - no you asshole but why the fuck are you asking me for that of all things?

Niragi - why the hell do you even need this favor for?

Great, now he actually has to explain himself. Now, he could come up with a lie, but what lie could he even use in this situation?

Chishiya - I told my father that you were my boyfriend when he was trying to get me to date this girl.

Chishiya decided to leave out the fact that he didn’t tell his father that Niragi was a boy. Now, his father probably assumed that Niragi was a boy based on his name, but is probably hoping that he is actually a girl. Chishiya wants to crush whatever hope he has.

Niragi - you couldve said anyone else but you said me

Niragi - seriously what the fuck is wrong with you

Chishiya - Nothing is wrong with me.

Chishiya - I only said your name because you’re the exact person my parents would disapprove of. I just want to piss them off.

He definitely wasn’t thinking about that in the moment when he said his name, but honestly, he’s glad he said Niragi’s name. Chishiya knows that his parents aren’t going to like him the second they look at him. Niragi is the last person they would want Chishya dating because of his looks and because he’s a man.

Niragi - what makes you think that ill even do this

Honestly, he has a point there. Chishiya is surprised he’s even spent this long talking to him about this. Yet, he has no idea how to get him to do this favor.

Chishiya - You get to piss off my parents and my relatives, you get to waste my parents' money, you can stay in a resort in Fukuoka, ride a plane in first class, etc.

Chishiya - Do you need more reasons?

Chishiya could tell Niragi was thinking about it (thank goodness) because he took a couple of minutes to respond.

Niragi - and all i have to do is piss off your family?

Chishiya - That basically sums it up.

Niragi - fine ill do it

Niragi - youre going own me one for this though

Chishiya - That’s fine, I expected that from you.

And with that, the conversation ended. Chishiya couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. He thought Niragi wasn’t going to go with it, and he would have to make up another lie to his parents. That’s only one hurdle, though; he still has many more to go through. So, he opens his father’s contact next.

All he can do now is mentally prepare himself for the plane ride on Wednesday and the dinner on Thursday. Not only that, but the weekend when the rest of his family comes over. God, he wishes that he had work this week. He wishes he were able to lie about having work, but his father called in for him, saying that he would be taking a week off for vacation. Normally, that wouldn’t slide, but it’s his father; no one is going to tell him anything.

Chishiya lies on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He can already feel the headache that he’ll have this week.
