Chapter Text
Here, in this strange world, women and men—or at least some of them—possess a power (I prefer the term 'magic,' but it doesn't quite fit here), the power of a book... a cursed one.
More than 6,000 years ago, in the county of Florea, now Florae, a battle took place. Evil gods had imbued twelve books with some of their magic. At that time, these books were read by thousands of people from different lands. The battle, now known as the War of the Books, ended after several hundred years, once the gods had disappeared, if not been defeated.
From that time onward, the books were forbidden, some even burned, but six of the twelve gods had taken precautions by hiding them. Alas, with the gods gone, the books were no longer protected.
A legendary book tells us that these gods knew who would find these books, and that this is why they hid them in these precise locations.
Over 6,000 years, some kingdoms had declined while others flourished. The kingdoms maintained cordial relations, though without much ambiguity.
The gods were venerated in some kingdoms, while in others they were seen as traitors and cowards. But the kingdoms were unaware of the threat that once again loomed over them.
"Today is when things will turn ugly, when tensions will rise, when everything will come to a head," said all the troubadours who roamed the barren and infertile lands.
