Work Text:
Tommy rolled over in bed, but froze when he heard something rustle on the other side of the room. It had been years since anyone had last seen Dream, but unexpected noises still set him on edge. "Techno?" He called into the darkness.
"Yes?"
"What was that rustling noise?"
"A paper fell off my desk."
"Oh." Tommy settled back down on the bed, pulling the blanket up to his shoulders.
He heard the scrape of Techno's chair as the piglin man stood up before making his way over to the bed. "Tommy, you're safe here, I promise." Technoblade reached down and ran his hand through Tommy's hair.
Tommy leaned into the touch. "I know Tech. Thank you."
"No need to thank me. Now scoot over." Tommy wriggled to the edge of the bed, letting Techno lie down before returning for cuddles.
Techno chuckled softly and wrapped an arm around Tommy. "I love you, Tech." The younger boy murmured.
"Love you too, you little shit."
Tommy's breath evened out as he drifted to sleep, worries smothered by Techno's presence—the piglin man providing security that he never thought he'd feel
Once Tommy's breathing evened out and he was limp in Techno's arms, the piglin tried to get back up, intent on getting more work done. The minute he tried to move, Tommy whimprered. "No, no, I'm sorry..." The smaller boy wined, his hands grabbing at Techno's shirt. Technoblade cursed under his breath and dropped back onto the bed.
The next morning was tenser than it had been in a long while. Techno tried to get Tommy to talk about whatever had happened the night before, but the teenager wouldn't elaborate further than: "Dream messed up my sense of object permanence."
"Thesus," Techno layed his hand on Tommy's shoulder. "I need you to talk to me."
Tommy grimaced. "Dream spent the entirety of exile making it clear that anything I wasn't looking at and holding on to could vanish on a whim. Nothing was safe, nothing was permanent—not my items, not my animals," His voice faded to a whisper. "not even my friends."
Techno froze. "What do you mean, friends?"
Tommy stared at the floor, his entire body tense.
"Thomas, what do you mean?" Techno pushed
"MD." Tommy whispered, tears lining his eyes. "Dream killed him...in the few seconds it took me to turn around." Tears started flowing freely as Tommy's words devolved into hiccuped sobs.
"Shit," Techno muttered, moving to wrap Tommy in a hug.
After a few minutes of the wwo wrapped in a tight embrace, Tommy's sobs quieted into ragged breathing. "'M sorry," He choked out.
"You don't need to be sorry." Techno southed. "Tell ya what," Techno knelt down so he could look Tommy directly in the eyes. "Once the blizzard clears, why don't we head to the harbor so you can have some therapy with Puffy?"
