Chapter Text
It's not the pale moon that excites me, that thrills and delights me. Oh no, it's just the nearness of you.
The crackling sound of the old record filled the living room, soothing Alastor’s mind. It was a nice song, and he was very fond of miss Fitzgerald’s voice, lovely and clear. He was on the couch, relaxed into the soft cushions and legs crossed with a book in his lap, a rather interesting one about the etiquette when dining with a cannibal. It had been accurate so far. The sun had started to set outside, casting a glowing red light into the room, signaling the beginning of the end to another day in damnation. Though, it had been a very ordinary one for Alastor, almost boringly so.
Hotel duties completed without hiccups and dinner cooked for the staff, Alastor had made his way back to his and Vox’s apartment. Usually he’d stay in his room at the hotel, but the yearly Overlord gathering was later that same night, and he wanted to take a moment to breathe before jumping back into action. It would most likely be rather dull, filled with speeches going on and on about things he honestly couldn’t care less about. But Vox would be there as well as Rosie, so it wouldn’t be completely terrible. They could have drinks, maybe scare off some of the newer additions to the group. Although, he suspected that his dear television had forgotten all about it, since he usually would be home much earlier if he hadn’t. He valued his time to relax and they had to leave in just over an hour to make it in time, which was a bit on the slim side according to Vox. He would have to manage, it would look bad for them to be late.
Speak of the devil. The front door opened before slamming shut, the sound of expensive shoes stomping inside filling the apartment. Alastor rolled his eyes with a smile. Temper, temper. His sensitive ears picked up on Vox grumbling under his breath as he ripped off his coat, most likely throwing it to the floor. He ordered a shadow tendril to pick it up and straighten it, since Vox would only get angrier if he found it crumpled. Even if he was the one who left it in a pile instead of just hanging it up in the first place.
The footsteps got closer until he could see Vox approaching in the corner of his eye, sparking a bit and stormy scowl in place. He lifted his book just in time as Vox flopped down on the couch, screen landing in his lap and shoes hanging off the opposite armrest. Alastor was unaffected, moving the book to one hand and lightly trailed his claws over the back of Vox’s head with the other. Arms wrapped around his middle, Vox burying his screen further into his stomach. The man muffled something unintelligible against his shirt.
“Hmm?” After a moment Vox’s voice rang out through the speakers on the back of his head.
“Who decides to have a three hour long meeting in the afternoon? A fucking idiot that’s who.” Alastor turned the page with his magic, hand stroking softly over the other’s vents.
“I’m guessing you’re referring to yourself, since you’re the one in charge of said meetings?” The arms around him loosened as Vox turned around in his lap, looking up at him with what was undeniably a pout. Alastor grinned down at him.
“Yes. But no need to say it out loud.” Alastor snorted a laugh and dragged a claw along the top of his screen.
“Apologies, dear.” The man in his lap closed his eyes with a pleased sigh, hands laced together on top of his own chest. With a flick of Alastor’s finger the tight knot of his tie was made undone, vanishing away to be found neatly rolled up in his closet.
I need no soft light to enchant me, if you'll only grant me, the right, to hold you ever-so-tight.
“I’m not moving ever again, you’ll have to carry me around.” A bit unpractical, but he humored his husband’s wishes.
“That could be arranged.” Vox did a small cheer.
“If by ‘ever’ you mean the next hour, that is.” A digital eye cracked open, looking up at him questioningly. So he had forgotten. This was not going to be pretty. Well, might as well rip the bandaid off.
“Overlord gathering. It’s at eight.” For a second it looked like Vox was about to cry. He hoped not, it was a terribly sad sight. Thankfully he didn’t cry, seemingly changing tactics suddenly. He sat up straight and turned around to face Alastor, taking his free hand and bringing it to his lips. He kissed all the way up his arm, up his neck and planting a final ‘smack’ on his cheek, before doing it again in reverse. Strategic of him to try and make use of Alastor’s ego, but he would not be persuaded.
“Alastor, my love, baby, sweetheart, please can we for once not go to-“
“No.” Vox paused mid-kiss to the inside of his wrist, big eyes looking up at Alastor who had turned back to his book.
“I’m going, and you are too.” Vox flew up in his seat, arms raised to his sides.
“What?! You can’t just order me to do it!” Alastor turned and met his outraged expression, eyebrow raised pointedly. Vox flushed and scowled, making Alastor chuckle before snapping his book shut. He waved it away and turned his body to Vox, throwing his hooves up into the other’s lap. The man slumped back against the couch, hands rubbing at Alastor’s ankles with a sour look on his screen.
“Even if I couldn’t cher, our little union has made people associate us with one another. And I won’t let your own sloppiness taint my perfect attendance record.” He ignored Vox’s childishly mocking repetion of the word ‘sloppiness’, wrapping his signal around the other’s spiky frequency in a try to soothe it a bit.
“Don’t sulk dear, it will only be a few hours.” Vox threw his head back with an exaggerated groan before tipping himself to the side, pushing Alastor down horizontally into the couch with his screen pressed to his chest. He allowed the tantrum with a sigh, patting his back half-heartedly. Vox made a wounded sound into his shirtfront, so he stroked along his spine a bit more lovingly. Alastor hummed in thought for a moment. The night would be a complete drag if Vox was going to mope around the whole time. Better do something to put him in a better mood then. There was still an hour to spare after all. He trailed a claw lightly over a bent antenna, letting the small sparks tickle over his fingers.
“But do feel welcome to try and tempt me to stay home.” Vox looked up at that, eyes questioning. At Alastor’s fond look they flashed with understanding, excited smile spreading across his screen. Worked like a charm. Vox rose up to his elbows, looming over Alastor a bit while he toed off his shoes, dropping them to the floor one after the other. He leaned down to press his lips against Alastor’s temple while clever claws traced the hem of his shirt, tickling against his stomach. Eager, fluttering kisses were pressed along his jawline, down the line of his throat and up again to claim Alastor’s lips. He hummed into the kiss, smiling as metallic claws scratched at the nape of his neck. A tip of a tongue dragged gently along the seam of his mouth, and he opened his lips to drag his own tongue along it, sucking softly.
Vox pulled back to give him a ridiculous leer, grin crooked in the most endearing of ways. How he loved his man. It surprised him some days, even after all this time, how his heart seemed to swell just at the sight of the TV Demon. Alastor gently pulled him back down for another sweet kiss, Vox responding enthusiastically. It went on for a couple of minutes before Vox kissed the edge of his mouth and coaxed Alastor to turn his head to give him better access to his neck. He flushed a bit at Vox’s worship, smile widening as the other purred against the skin.
“I’m a master persuader you know.” The hand slipped under his shirt, before sneaking lower and lower, making Alastor’s breath hitch. Vox sucked on his pulse point before kissing downwards as well, and Alastor allowed his head to fall back against the cushions, eyes fluttering closed.
“I’m well aware, dear.” He wouldn’t change his mind, something Vox knew as well, but his husband was nothing if not persistent.
