Chapter 1: 2 Weeks or 2 Months

Chapter Text

Drift cursed as Rodimus denied another comm request. Receiving a short response about “reports piling up”, for the hundredth time. “Another denied request.” He spoke as Ratchet walked with him. They had looked all over the ship, the race track, Swerves (which was filled with a lot of dirty looks), and finally the observation desk. Both coming to the conclusion he must be doing his job for once. Swiftly walking towards the co-captains office.

“Never thought it would take jumping dimensions for the kid to take his position seriously.” Ratchet joked and then huffed as Drift elbowed him gently in the side plating.

“I’m serious Ratty, neither of us have heard or even seen him in like 2 weeks!” Stopping for a moment to look at Ratchet with guilty optics. “I feel even worse that we didn’t notice until today.” Ratchet reached for Drift's servo and pulled him into a quick kiss, rubbing his arms to sooth the flared armor.

“Drift, we are talking about Rodimus right now. He comes and goes as he wants.” Letting out a small vent of air, Drift nodded and started the small walk to the Captain's office again. “And besides we needed some alone time.” He said teasingly.

After a few long minutes, Drift was about to knock on the captain's door when it slid open to Megatron's back. “Are you sure you don’t want any more help?” His EM field was relaxed, which was unusual, and his voice had a tinge of humor, like telling an inside joke.

Hearing Rodimus from behind Megatron, “Nope, I’m almost done, thanks though!”

Turning to face the door, Megatron barely avoided running into the two stunned mechs. Nodding his head to both, very clearly trying to hide his displeasure of seeing the two, then walking away towards his and Minimus shared hab.

“Oh Drift, Ratchet, please come in.” Sitting at his desk, they could tell it was recently organized and by the looks of it, forms and reports actually getting made and signed. Rodimus' field was tight and Drift could tell his smile was a little too big to be real. “How can I help you both?”

Ratchet whistled slightly as they both looked at the desk, speaking before Drift. “Well don’t you look put together?” With a light sass and a small smirk neither of them missed Rodimus' smile became slightly more strained.

Folding his servos on the desk to hide his fidgeting. “Just trying to start fresh with a new dimension, now what’s up?”

That made Ratchet pause, allowing for Drift to speak up, “We wanted to talk to you, we haven’t seen you in a few weeks and wanted to plan a date night.” Soft smile and pleading optics, he held Ratchet's servo as they both waited for a ‘yes’ from Rodimus.

He gave them a surprised look, shifting his optics between the two, then down to their servos. Then almost realization washed over him. “A ‘date’ night?”

“Yeah, maybe a drink at Swerves, then a-” Drift was cut off by a gently raised servo and a very uncomfortable look from the mech at the desk. Ratchet gave Drift's servo a small squeeze of comfort, and looked at Rodimus with as much confusion as Drift was.

Rodimus reset his vox as he looked away for a moment. “I’ve actually been meaning to talk to you both about this.” Alarm warnings went off in the other two mechs, both filled with confusion and dread. “I’ve done a lot of thinking,” Giving Ratchet a look, “yes I can do that, but I think it would be best to stop our… ‘relations’.” That didn’t sound like Rodimus, that wasn’t a Rodimus word.

Ratchet let out a disgusted huff and Drift started to quickly talk, “Our ‘relations’?! What does that even mean, did somebot dare you or something?” Ratchet quickly followed with, “Well that was Ultra Magnus if I heard it.” With a stained angry voice.

That was enough from whatever defiance Rodimus built to crack, standing from his desk to look at the two bots in the optics, “No, I wasn’t dared. I just don’t want,” Motioning between the three of them, “this anymore.”

“You mean our relationship?!” Now Ratchet was full on mad, what type of backwards break-up was this. Taking a step forward and slamming his servos on the desk, Drift was still processing what Rodimus had just said.

Rodimus huffed and crossed his arms, “This wasn’t a relationship, this was you wanting a second spike or valve randomly and I don’t want that anymore.” Taking a deep breath and looking away again, but still with much anger “I actually never wanted that.”

Drift spoke up, almost sounded offended. “Was that what you thought this was?” Ratchet came in with a much harder, “You don’t hear from us for 2 weeks and you think we just wanted an interface buddy?!”

Rodimus’ field snapped wide and angry, Drift and Ratchet could hear the sound of Rodimus' engine revving and the temperature in the office spiked. “I haven’t talked to either of you for 2 months.” Taking a step forward, the temp became even hotter, “So yes. I do. And as I said, I don’t want that so.” Leaning forward on his desk as he glared at them for a moment, both of them catching the swell of optical fluid evaporating from one of his optics. “If that's all, get the frag out of my office…”

Once the door closed, they only heard the sound of a breaking data pad before they both walked away.

Passing Megatron and Minimus quickly walking to the captain's office.
